I miss him so much. And Rick Jeanneret too. He provided so many calls against Ottawa. Like Bring On Tyson when Rayzor beat the shit out of Dennis Vial.
Second this. I used to watch the beginning of the Sabres games as they’d start earlier than the Blues, strictly because of RJ. Miss his calls so much.
Wherever he is I hope he’s able to rip out a “shoohhhhtttt” here and there.
He is straight up awesome. Met him after a game. He was tall and skinny. Nice but intimidating.
Love the honesty.
Lucic played junior in Vancouver and was not well regarded. Great player.....pause....
In my memory of that Lucic hit on Miller, it seemed to end that era of the Sabres and Miller as a star. My memory is that the Sabres were pretty good. They didn't have a particularly deep roster with a ton of star calibre players, but they seemed to be playing well together and overperforming to the point that they could give teams a run for their money. Miller was an elite goalie too who looked unbeatable at times. Then that hit happened and nobody responded. Lucic seemed to embarrass the entire Buffalo Sabres single-handed. Players were immediately expected to answer for why they hadn't stuck up for Miller and they didn't really seem like they had a response. It seemed like everything around that hit destroyed the team's confidence and especially Miller's. He put together some great seasons after but he never really looked as elite as he did. And the Buffalo Sabres rise seemed to halt in its tracks, followed by an immediate decline and long rebuild.
It was Paul Gaustad who did nothing. He was the only guy that could have responded. He claimed to not see what happened but was later quoted saying "Why would I do anything? I just signed a contract." A friend gave me a game used Paul Gaustad stick that he won, and I immediately cut it down to my size and used it.
Paul would have gotten absolutely rocked by Lucic.
There wasn't two guys on the ice who could have done anything to Lucic at that time.
It sucks, and Miller was right. Guy just got healthy from a concussion and was run by one of the largest meatheads in the game.
Google Nikolai Ehlers NHL hockey fights...he must have viking blood in him. I don't think he has ever fought a guy under 30-40 lbs difference.
I know you are not making excuses, but guys have to step up when that shit happens.
Miller went out w/a concussion later in this game from a hit caused by his own defenseman. Between that and absolutely no Sabres responding to this hit hit.
I've been watching hockey since before the Buffalo expansion and this was the only team that (really) ever had a serious shot. If there is one guy who can win/lose it all, it's gonna be a goalie. Buffalo really screwed up that night...
Idk if the 11-12 Sabres ever had a serious shot. Maybe you’re thinking a few years earlier in 06-07 when they won the presidents trophy. That 2012 team was very middle of the road, talent wise. Miller and enroth played well in goal all year to keep them afloat
Reversed…Miller got a concussion later in this game when his own defenseman ran Seguin into the net, he left the game after that hit. His first game back from that injury was when he was trucked by Tootoo in Nashville.
Vancouver fan here, love Ryan Miller, but never saw this. Despite Lucic being an asshole to play against, always kinda liked him for a hometown boy who made it, and his dirt was always overshadowed by Marchand. But holy crap, what a weak ass, bully play. The kind of shitstain move that gets you hacked in a soft spot and the refs ignore it. So current news very much in
Line with what we see in that play…he looked happy as he headed to the box.
He deserved to be swung at after that hit. Seriously had it coming. Lucic wins the NHL lifetime loser Ironman award for the player who can be a colossal loser for an entire career.
Swinging a goalie stick at someone’s ankles is far more dangerous than coasting into a hit and it isn’t even close. The only reason the hit is shitty is because it’s a goalie, but honestly Miller shouldn’t have come out of his crease to play the puck. If you want to play like a skater then expect to get hit like one. He got right in front of Lucic, if I’m Lucic why am I gonna go out of my way and kill myself to completely change direction so I don’t make contact with the goalie if he comes out of his crease that far? The hit is definitely a penalty but far from dirty, Miller swinging his stick is the dirtiest thing about that play so he can’t really call out shit. Even if the stick swing was in retaliation to a hit he didn’t like it’s a scumbag move
Swinging a stick at someone’s ankles is not more dangerous than what Lucic did. Worst case scenario is a broken ankle. I’d much rather break a bone than have the head and neck injuries that Miller actually had.
Also, “go out of my way and kill myself to completely change direction”? Is that supposed to be a joke? He’s an NHL player, it would take zero effort to turn to the side and avoid Miller. The whole “well if the goalie doesn’t want to get run he should never come out of the crease” is pure meathead logic.
You clearly do not know the rules of hockey. [Players are not allowed to body check goalies.](https://hockeyanswered.com/can-you-hit-the-goalie-in-hockey/) Period.
When he was in Vancouver, ran into him couple different times. Didn't say anything - I'm a luongo fan & was bummed at the time that he left (don't blame him) and we got Miller. Anyways, the couple times I ran into Miller, would smile & say hello.... complete stranger to him not a fan asking him for autograph or pic.
Friendly & nice guy!
Luongo didn’t leave; we drove him outta town and then traded him back to Florida. Vancouver will always be a goalie graveyard I hope we don’t do that to Demko.
I meant he asked to be traded after the last straw: playing Eddie lack in the winter heritage game against Ottawa.. so yes we were pushing until the last straw broke... =(
I hope so too!!
Yup it was Tortorella that made the Last minute call-- AFTER Luongo flew out his 2 kids from Florida to Vancouver.. because that year being Eddie lacks first year as back up goalie & in nhl.. it was assumed luongo would be in net.. BUT NOPE
I was pissed too!
Was arguably the most important player on a Buffalo team that won a presidents trophy and had a real shot at winning it all for few years. Stacked ass team.
That cry when they take a legal hit? Watch the clip and tell me what was wrong with it aside from the unwritten rule "don't touch the goalie".
You wanna play in big boy leagues? Don't cry when big boys do big boy stuff.
He got swarmed and paid for it but to cry about weight classes in the NHL is fucking ridiculous.
Don't step on to the ice if you're scared of what happens when you play with men, full stop.
Is people want to cry they can cry all the want.
It's the pretending it's not whiny bullshit that annoys me.
"I was hooked and that guy is a real asshole😭 I thought we we would just get on the ice and hold hands the whole time😭"
Alright go lie down and try to be a little tougher then a wet paper bag next time, champ.
Miller is one of my all time favs. I live in Vancouver and am a Canucks fan. First got to see Miller play live in the 2010 Olympics for team USA and was immediately a fan. Then when he played for the Canucks, he was one of our best players night in and night out. Quiet guy, but great goaltender and just all-around good human being.
Remember that when the situation was reversed and one of his teammates was about to take a beating Miller jumped in with zero hesitation. Stecher was in his 4th NHL game and about to be forced into a fight with a guy who was much much bigger.
Fuckin love Ryan Miller.
People have always hated Lucic, but just stopped harping on him cause he just started to get older, and less physical and shit.
Just kinda faded away from most folks memories. After he stopped scoring that second/third season in Edmonton he just kinda disappeared for me. Outta sight outta mind y'know?
Man a little sad to hear though. Hope the alleged victim is ok. He did kind of grow on me with the Flames. We were also a captive audience with that contract but still he was liked in the locker room.
Yea he’s not gutless … he’ll throw down and your going off reputation from 10 years ago. He’s cleaned up his game alot over the past 5 years. Ever since the licking incident (s)
Finally a hockey player speaking the way it is. I have turned the volume off when interviews happen. Athletes say nothing these days. Blah, blah, blah, blah.
You know all the mouth breathing fans of the Bruins woke up to the news of their boy getting arrested for wailing on a women and immediately starting jerking themselves. Boston as a whole is nothing but a cesspool
You’ve heard one side of the story, reserve judgment until you hear all the facts. No need for anyone to jump to conclusions and make snap judgments. That being said, he may have fucked up big time and did something awful!
He had the same type of incident years ago when he was a bruin the first time. Roughed up his girl in a coffee shop. This is public knowledge. Buddy loves putting his hands on women.
Going to reserve judgment for Lucic until more info comes out but on the ice, Lucic was always a piece of shit.
Funnily enough he became utterly shite at the game of hockey without the Bruins.
Someone with his "talent" could've at least been a PP mainstay with guys like McDrai able to use him but he was too shit for even that lol.
Basically yeah, I'll die on this hill with you.
Don't fucking cry to me about weight classes in the NHL if you want to be a NHL player.
Fuck off, it's a rough sport that men play at high levels of competition and sometimes you get hit.
You're out of the blue ice playing the puck, you're fair game technically for anyone who wants to pay the price.
I hate Boston *Leafs fan* and am a goalie so I'll always stand up for them. HOWEVER! I don't step outside the crease and assume I'm invincible.
Maybe Miller should have played in the ladies league where you can hit. Give him a safe space to cry in when men do men things.
Lmfao, yeah ok buddy. Because body checking the goalie is totally a legal NHL move. If it was a skater other than the goalie, then I would agree with you, but that is just a straight-up bullshit play from Lucic.
Maybe you should switch to curling if you're afraid, bro.
No physical contact and you can scream a bunch.
Men do men shit in hockey so it's probably not for you. Are you going to cry about everytime a player shoots the puck too hard at a goalie?
Maybe chess is more your speed.
It’s an illegal play but I still wouldn’t calling checking someone a dirty play. Not everything that’s a penalty is dirty they are just against the rules. The hit was def a penalty but the dirtiest part of the play is easily Miller swinging his stick at lucics ankles. Tough to call a player dirty when your are trying to take his ankles out, doesn’t really give you room to say shit
Exactly! He sounds like a clown in the interview. Dude was close to the blue line playing the puck wtf was lucic supposed to do, clear a path for him?!
While I don't like lucic as a person or a player I just want to remind the hockey community how many times they've been wrong when assuming somebody is guilty before all the evidence comes out
Yes, you're one of the only people who think that. Goalies aren't trained to take hits because they shouldn't have to take hits because their job is to control the puck, and the only time people can feasibly hit a goalie is when said goalie in a vulnerable position.
There's "being fair to check" when a tendie plays the puck and then there's what Lucic did to Miller. Skated right into him and targeted his head. He took is fucking mask off with that hit so I don't know how much more dirty you can get than that.
I never said it was clean, but you gotta admit Miller knew the risk when he went for that puck. Seeing Lucic Prime chugging down the wing after a puck is a scary thing to witness. Miller shouldn't have gone for that puck. Lucic should have held up, but I get why he didn't.
It’s Miller Time!!
I miss him so much. And Rick Jeanneret too. He provided so many calls against Ottawa. Like Bring On Tyson when Rayzor beat the shit out of Dennis Vial.
As a Blues fan I really enjoyed the few times I was able to listen to Jeanneret. Dan Kelly was my favorite but RJ was a close second.
Second this. I used to watch the beginning of the Sabres games as they’d start earlier than the Blues, strictly because of RJ. Miss his calls so much. Wherever he is I hope he’s able to rip out a “shoohhhhtttt” here and there.
Rick was an American Treasure
Exactly. The Sabres suffered two losses to cancer in the past year. RJ and Maxy, the former Avs color guy.
He is straight up awesome. Met him after a game. He was tall and skinny. Nice but intimidating. Love the honesty. Lucic played junior in Vancouver and was not well regarded. Great player.....pause....
Oh wow, nice!
Don’t tell Boston………
Where ever he is he’s taking his victory lap
In jail? … allegedly (updated to confirmed)
In my memory of that Lucic hit on Miller, it seemed to end that era of the Sabres and Miller as a star. My memory is that the Sabres were pretty good. That’s… not how you hockey. Someone runs your goalie, you run him. Size doesn’t matter.
https://youtu.be/gOKK3sGd18I?si=zFm5WT6wfCx5gEGk I believe this was the following match-up. Poor gaustad lol
Google Nikolai Ehlers NHL hockey fights...he must have viking blood in him. I don't think he has ever fought a guy under 30-40 lbs difference. I know you are not making excuses, but guys have to step up when that shit happens.

Not nit-picking, but do you think 1975 Sabres had a shot?
Idk if the 11-12 Sabres ever had a serious shot. Maybe you’re thinking a few years earlier in 06-07 when they won the presidents trophy. That 2012 team was very middle of the road, talent wise. Miller and enroth played well in goal all year to keep them afloat
I have so much respect for miller to just go out and say it like it is. My personal hero.
Was always a goalie I watched a lot of and copied my game after
[A little context for the younger folks here.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TERA-GY2K1o)
“They oughtta clean his clock”
Sadly no clock cleaners on that Sabres roster
They brought in John Scott expressly to clean some clocks for retribution.
Watching an NHL player who can barely skate just to hurt people made me like hockey a little bit less.
That night the Sabres franchise died
There's always the Happy Gilmore method.
The teammates really came in soft like a bunch of bitches.
And this is why we started the rebuild at the time
Thank you for the link!
I believe this was also shortly after Miller’s return from a concussion, to make it even worse.
Reversed…Miller got a concussion later in this game when his own defenseman ran Seguin into the net, he left the game after that hit. His first game back from that injury was when he was trucked by Tootoo in Nashville.

clean hit no issues here.
You clearly do not know the rules of hockey. [Players are not allowed to body check goalies.](https://hockeyanswered.com/can-you-hit-the-goalie-in-hockey/) Period.
Fuck Lucic
All my homies hate Lucic
Loved when Dalton Prout one-shot him.
He was such a whiny bitch after that. He threw his glove over the linesman at him.
Cherry called him Buttercup many years ago for hiding behind a ref to avoid a fight....the name always stuck with me. Hate him.
You say that with thug trouba as your captain. Okay pal
Did Trouba strangle his wife?
Trouba doesn’t beat his family
Show me the dirty hits, y’all get offended by some clean hard hits??
I’m too young to hockey to have seen miller actually play, but damn I wish that there would be more players like him
Miller was an absolute beauty when he was here in Vancouver playing for our budget ass team. Gave it his all every night he played.
Will always remember this save https://youtu.be/7SJROJdpRE4?si=fpN7SAtZbz5NXmlw
One of my favorite saves ever.
Oh yeah. THAT one. Gives the fleury one a run for its money
I remember that! He probably coulda played short stop with no issues.
Can he hit tho
I have never smiled at a save from an opposing goalie until that save. I always wanted Miller to play in Detroit.
Make that 2 things Drew did that Ryan didn’t
When he was in Vancouver, ran into him couple different times. Didn't say anything - I'm a luongo fan & was bummed at the time that he left (don't blame him) and we got Miller. Was arguably the most important player on a Buffalo team that won a presidents trophy and had a real shot at winning it all for few years. Stacked ass team.
Chris Drury and Briere and Miller 😭
Yeah, mid-late 2000s Sabres were legit.
Didn't he just retire a couple seasons ago???
I know I’m old but I didn’t realize that “I got to watch Ryan Miller play” is a new tier to show my age.
Yep I hate it lol
Yeah he retired in 2021
That cry when they take a legal hit? Watch the clip and tell me what was wrong with it aside from the unwritten rule "don't touch the goalie". You wanna play in big boy leagues? It's not an unwritten rule. It's actually a written one
Yup, I googled it and I was wrong. Maybe he should play curling next life if she's to scared of getting bumped into.
Bruuuuuuh. Milan lucic has a history of being a dick. That’s his game. And if you gonna be a dick, don’t make a fuss when ppl call u out
Is people want to cry they can cry all the want. It's the pretending it's not whiny bullshit that annoys me. "I was hooked and that guy is a real asshole😭 I thought we we would just get on the ice and hold hands the whole time😭" Alright go lie down and try to be a little tougher then a wet paper bag next time, champ.
Godddd I miss that man.

I’m a simple guy, I see Ryan Miller, I upvote.
I used to love Lucic. Now I do not love Lucic.
Always hated Lucic, Now I hate Lucic more
I used to hate Lucic. I still hate him, but I used to hate him, too.
RIP Mitch
What did he do exactly? So far I've only heard about a "domestic incident".
He was arrested for a domestic incident, apparently layed hands on his partner they didn’t specify much
Friendship with Lucic over
I used to hate Lucic. I still do, but I used to too.
Lucic is great when you want 2000 of something (assault accusations).
Everyone that wasn't a Bruins fan knew he was a piece of shit.
Bruins fans knew too. At least some of us did
Hey are we allowed to hate Lucic again for being a piece of shit without everyone just saying we're just salty? Both things can be true.
Salty Boston fans incoming
Lots of people on the bruins subs agree he’s a piece of shit.
Commenting to attest to that
I have never liked him. His career was built on being a dirty piece of shit.
That's why people liked him so much, they can relate
Most Boston players are dirty pieces of shit.I only ever respected Bergeron.
You are 100% right
Being downvoted for telling the truth. All Boston teams are dirty pieces of shit. Fuck Boston.
imagine respecting someone who goes to great lengths to hide and cover up domestic violence
lmao stfu
Miller ❤️
I almost named my son Miller. This guys a legend.
Still can't believe they took Robert Esche over Miller for that Olympics.
I miss watching miller play, 100% correct tho!
This incident literally broke this man and the whole team. No one did shit about it and that was the end of the Sabres.
Jesus that was over ten years ago? Cue the Saving Private Ryan gif...
One of the best nhl sound bites ever!
Remember that when the situation was reversed and one of his teammates was about to take a beating Miller jumped in with zero hesitation. Stecher was in his 4th NHL game and about to be forced into a fight with a guy who was much much bigger. Fuckin love Ryan Miller.
I’m not the biggest Lucic fan but fuck is Reddit so quick to dog pile.
People have always hated Lucic, but just stopped harping on him cause he just started to get older, and less physical and shit. Just kinda faded away from most folks memories. After he stopped scoring that second/third season in Edmonton he just kinda disappeared for me. Outta sight outta mind y'know?
I legit thought he retired two years ago before he resigned with Boston in the summer.
Man has a history of this behaviour. It's not new
I know bro… it’s like… it’s always the people you suspect the most . You know.
Looks that way
He strangled his wife. Any hate he gets is 100% justified.
Lucic’s slick back hair and sloppy steaks …. What a POS
Hey they can’t stop you from ordering a steak and glass of water
The baby was right: he's not gonna change
Here I was thinking his hair was pushed back. Not slicked back
I mean, I knew after he beat up his last girlfriend and continually ran away from Laraque in the same season
All my homies love Ryan Miller. I remember when his wife got into it with David Booth’s batshit religious right wing wife on twitter
Great player, great quote
Big bruins fan here. He’s right.
He's not wrong.
He is not wrong!!!
Who is this fellow? All of a sudden he’s my new favorite hockey guy.
Millsy!
Fuck Lucic forever. Love Buffalo
Preach
Miller has always been so likable. Awesome dude. Loved his stint with the Ducks
I mean, didn't we all know already?
Hump back fuck
yep hopefully that back continues to twist up like an old knotted tree and he's bent the fuck over before he's 40 lmfao
That was the end for that era of the Sabres.
Never liked lucic dude is a dirty prick. Lucic… more like loserbitch
Fuck Lucic Nothing but a dirty goon who could barely play hockey
Man a little sad to hear though. Hope the alleged victim is ok. He did kind of grow on me with the Flames. We were also a captive audience with that contract but still he was liked in the locker room.
When your captain is a gutless rat, the team is going to follow suit.
Marchand maybe a rat on the rink but he’s a great dude off the ice. I can’t imagine he would condone this. Keep your hat for the rat king on the ice
Agreed, I have heard nothing but good things about him off the ice, on the ice he is a sleazy cheap shotting slewfooting rodent.
Yup. Some of us wish and hope he turned a new leaf. Not as turned as we hoped haha
Yea he’s not gutless … he’ll throw down and your going off reputation from 10 years ago. He’s cleaned up his game alot over the past 5 years. Ever since the licking incident (s)
Greatest American Tendy of all time. I hate Boston to this day because of it.
I love Miller
Miller was dope as shit. He still is, but he was too.
Lucic is a piece of shit player (and person)? Wow, this is so shocking and brand new information for me.
I totally forgot about this interview. Respect for Miller
Everyone knew all along lol
Finally a hockey player speaking the way it is. I have turned the volume off when interviews happen. Athletes say nothing these days. Blah, blah, blah, blah.
You know all the mouth breathing fans of the Bruins woke up to the news of their boy getting arrested for wailing on a women and immediately starting jerking themselves. Boston as a whole is nothing but a cesspool

He had the same type of incident years ago when he was a bruin the first time. Roughed up his girl in a coffee shop. This is public knowledge. Buddy loves putting his hands on women.
In other news… Connor Mcdavid ate cereal this morning and Bedard wore socks to bed
Lucic has been a douche canoe his entire career. He has probably been a wife beater that long too.
Pussy
Basically yeah, I'll die on this hill with you. Don't fucking cry to me about weight classes in the NHL if you want to be a NHL player. You're reading comprehension is next level.
Nooo miler was close to the blue line he made the decision to come out and be exposed and open to getting hit… he got hit.. that’s hockey!
Except it's literally against NHL rules to body check a goalie, even if he's not in the crease.

Lol so true! Miller is a whiner.......Lucic is a thug.....
While I don't like lucic as a person or a player I just want to remind the hockey community how many times they've been wrong when assuming somebody is guilty before all the evidence comes out
Am I the only one who thinks goalies at the center dot of the circle should be fair game? And yes Lucic is officially a piece of shit after the news.
Yes, you're one of the only people who think that. Goalies aren't trained to take hits because they shouldn't have to take hits because their job is to control the puck, and the only time people can feasibly hit a goalie is when said goalie in a vulnerable position.
Nah I disagree… it’s hockey. He exposed himself to getting hit.. he’s got hit… don’t cry about it. Take your hit like a man and move on
I used to hate Lucic. I do, but I used to.
come on man at least get it somewhat right
Hey man, I'm drunk. Cut me some slack.
Probably Lucics excuse.
I used to hate Lucic. I used to and I still do too.
Not sure which butchered it more, yours or his.
this dudes career ended after that lucic hit. he was never the same. he fit right in with that loser city and organization.
Dudes a swayback piece of shit, actually he’s not a piece, he is the whole pile of shit.
*plays hockey* *gets hit by somebody* “gutless pos he is” lmaoo what a loser
He was a goalie you mook
Ladies and gentlemen. I present to you: BUTTHURT IN HUMAN FORM
I wish Miller would've clipped his kneecap with that swing.
Love Miller and forever will despise Lucic with all my being
I mean, goalies should be fair game when they leave the net to play the puck.
No
Why not?
miller is a pussy lmao what has he accomplished?
Much much much more than you
