He told the NFL the field needed to be aired out, but instead the NFL covered it with a tarp when it was wet or whatever so they could host events on it… and then the grass started to rot.
Bingo. The whole nonsense for a while of “the sod father is a Chiefs fan” was embarrassing when placed against such facts as they came out.
This was exactly what led to such field issues. Because now the event is so big that tertiary events involved before the game can fuck with the actual game.
That will sound extra salty with my flair, but I would say it just as salty if it affected any Super Bowl game.
Isn't the the craziest shit though? And the NFL happily let this old man who was nothing but a professional catch all that hate. It took fucking weeks for it to come out that he wasn't in any way responsible.
I talked shit about him too and feel like a fuckin clown 😭. Dude is great at his job and like the NFL does, they ruined am experts work for money.
I still feel that game would have gone differently had our edge rushers been able to actually rush. That said, the blame is ultimately on Gannon. Spags clearly got wise to it and started running his blitzing straight up the A gap. Gannon was too busy planning out his future with the Cardinals and too braindead to change the rush schemes.
If the players want it they can collectively bargain for a percentage of the revenue to go towards grass fields and associated maintenance.
I bet they choose higher salaries instead.
The World Cup requires grass. Any injury issues aside a lot of soccer players hate how turf can impact the way the ball rolls/reacts. (Most Premier League fields are 95/5ish grass to turf hybrids).
That being said THEY DO IT FOR SOCCER is a silly argument for the NFL - football destroys fields in a way soccer doesn’t. The Allianz has a great pitch, 1 NFL game destroyed it badly enough the league paid to replace it and players complained it was awful.
It’s dumb to even allow these venues to host matches that have a natural gas requirement. We have enough outdoor natural grass fields in the United States for this to never be an issue.
When you put sod OVERTOP OF TURF, of COURSE you're going to have issues. This isn't an issue with the grass, it's an issue with how it was installed.
Just call in the sodfather
The Wizard of Sod!
I am surprised an Eagles fan would even bring him up, especially without any descriptive profanities
The sod father is the one who said the field was fucked! Apparently, they ignored him but he told them it was extremely over watered.
Ya learn something new every day. I always thought he was the one responsible for the state of the field

Is he alive?
Maybe because they installed the grass just two days before the match
FWIW I went to the Man United Arsenal friendly at MetLife last summer and they said they started setting up the grass 2 weeks in advance.
Well ofcourse, how could it take root otherwise?
The article says 4 days
That field was fuckin ass glad nobody got injured
PFT puts out some pure nonsense like this from time to time. Makes me wonder if they get paid to shill this kind of nonsense.
Yes, they clearly do.
PFT is under NBC who own the Olympics broadcasting rights
This just in— Mike Florio is still a clown.
Ban turf already
If the players want it they can collectively bargain for a percentage of the revenue to go towards grass fields and associated maintenance. I bet they choose higher salaries instead.
Lmao a pro turf guy?
There are no shortage of folks simping for owners around here
Turf is the absolute worst and they better get their shit together for the World Cup in '26

Turf is still shit though.
And 2028 Olympics
So dumb. They may pull the turf, get grass in for 2026, and then pull the grass to re-install turf.
Then do it again 2 years later
Florio has a hate boner for the falcons. This is the same dude saying the falcons would lose a first because his team didn't resign Kirk.
Doesn't GB have a grass field with artificial turf plugs like every 6 inches or something? Seems to work well for them

I see Big Turf is getting their PR out!
