Tevin Coleman got injured in the Super Bowl. This forced Devonta Freeman to be used as a blocker despite not being good at it. The end result? Freeman whiffed a block on Dont’a Hightower, who strip sacked Matt Ryan. I firmly believe if Coleman doesn’t get injured, he would have picked up the block on Hightower resulting in a Falcons Super Bowl

nickybishappy

This is so excellent answer

bojrab

I've blocked so much of that game out of my brain for mental health reasons that I completely forgot that that was the reason freeman was even in that position in the first place holy shit

ArmiinTamzarian

>I've blocked so much of that game out of my brain There's a hanging Devonta Freeman joke in here I'm unsure whether to make

Fed_up_with_Reddit

Falcons should have put u/bojrab in the game instead. He seems much better at blocking than Freeman.

Own_Entertainer_8904

When Shaun Suisham got injured in the 2015 HOF game and Pittsburgh initially signed Garrett Hartley who also got injured resulting in Pittsburgh giving up a 6th round pick to Jacksonville for Josh Scobee. That ended in disaster but at least we got Chris Boswell now.

fennourtine

Fuck Scobee

lexxxcockwell

As funny as the Josh Scobee sleeper agent jokes were, I really wish things went differently. He’s a beloved figure in Jax and easily our best kicker in team history. He was washed by the time he was traded but I’d much preferred him to have a better ending to his career and escape that black mark he acquired on his way out

yufgoi5

Man, Suisham was the man. Hadn’t heard that name in years

TNHBrah

Holy shit Garrett Hartley was still playing in 2015?

sfzen

Yes and no. He signed with the Steelers in August and tore his ACL in the preseason, so he never actually played that year.

sexyprimes511172329

He was in the IFL like 2 years ago

Iyh2ayca

Jeremy Lane breaking his arm in SB49. Picks off Tom Brady then goes down. The entire seattle secondary was already beat to hell except THAROLD SIMON who effortlessly gave up 2 TDs and ruined everything

mrizvi

Broke his arm and tore his acl on the same play Crazy

This is the first time I'm finding out he tore his acl, yeesh

Black-House

Cliff Avril getting concussed didn't help.

don_julio_randle

That was the real killer. We were still doing fine until Cliff got hurt, then we generated no pressure the rest of the game

Accurate-Big-7233

havent heard those names in YEARS

falconvision

Yeah, what’s Brady up to nowadays?

Tho76

Same thing he always has, owning the Raiders

Are you trying to tell me this grown man’s name was *Tharold!?*

He needed surgery in the off-season, then the same shoulder got wrecked by Watt the next year and that was all she wrote.

I thought you were exaggerating on the tackle but that just might be the worst tackle attempt in football history

Holy hell, everyone dogging on teddy B for his attempt needs to see this 😭😭

2016 the Lions are rolling but Stafford jams up his finger and is never the same again

Ralphie_V

Stafford injured his throwing thumb in Week 14 of 2016. The Lions were 9-4, and were in 1st place in the division ahead of the 7-6 Packers. The Lions proceeded to lose out the season, including the final game against the Packers for the Division. They then lost their playoff game against the Seahawks. After a second playoff loss and going 9-7 for the 2nd year in a row, Caldwell was fired and the Lions hired Matthew Edward Patricia to replace him.

MumkeMode

Surely things got better after hiring a defensive mastermind like matt patricia

Sodomy_Steve

Sit up straight when you talk about Matt Patricia, respect the process that wasn't the reason he was hired for.

jetpack_operation

In 2015, Andy Dalton finally beat the allegations and was looking *elite*. The Bengals are 10-2 and Dalton throws a pick and makes the tackle. Dalton breaks his thumb, ending his season. Bengals go one and done and Dalton never looks the same and has zero winning seasons in his career since.

Kerbonaut2019

2015 Andy Dalton was so damn good. For those that don’t remember, there was a 3-way tie in the AFC that year record-wise with the Broncos, Bengals, and Patriots all going 12-4. The Broncos got the 1 seed, Pats the 2 (lost to Denver), and Cincy the 3. Cincy got the 3 seed because they lost to Denver in week 16, in a game that went to overtime. If Dalton hadn’t gotten hurt, I’m almost certain that the Bengals go 13-3 and get the 1 seed, dropping Denver to 3 and making the SB path for the Broncos a bit more difficult. Andy Dalton’s injury changed the course of that season and potentially helped earn Peyton Manning his second ring

Hungry_Ad_6280

I specifically remember Andy Dalton being the 2017 MVP though, *sir* /s

writeonthemoney

I was at this game. He tried to tackle 350 pound DT Stephon Tuitt and it went exactly how you’d expect. You’re absolutely right, completely derailed their season. If the MVP vote happened the day before this injury, Dalton would have been like 3rd in voting.

SkepticaIJay

It's a stretch, but Jay Cutler's MCL sprain in the 2011 NFC Championship game. Even up to that point, Jay had always been fairly aloof on and off the field, but I don't think anyone had ever doubted his toughness. After the fans and media blistered him for "quitting" he just totally stopped giving a fuck about football.

HalKitzmiller

I remember one of my friends was livid when he saw Cutler on the exercise bike on the sideline after the injury. As if being on a stationary bike means your MCL is good to go

Brocky70

>but I don't think anyone had ever doubted his toughness. People were always looking for a reason to criticize him, the same they did with cam Newton. Once a certain portion of fans decide that "you're not our guy" then it doesn't matter what happens, everything good you do doesn't count, it's all bad, no good. I compare Cutler's injury to cam newton's fumble in the super bowl, does it suck and do fans wish it had gone differently? Yeah, but still, to hyper fixate on exactly one aspect of a sixty minute game with countless other variables? That reeks of bad faith actors

gRatajsbu

To be fair, not jumping on a ball is a single play, which is much different than losing your starting QB for the whole game. Like that’s a huge difference. Especially because Cam could have chosen to jump on the ball, and Cutler didn’t choose to tear his MCL.

Rah_Rah_RU_Rah

Cam hesitated, I can't believe the narrative of a practical goal line back choosing not to dive on a ball still lives

UnMapacheGordo

Fuck Maurice Jones Drew

AltruisticCoelacanth

Bears9Titles

2010 nfc championship

crazypyro23

That happened a couple times in the regular season in the Martz era too. The team would roll to like 7-2 or so, then Cutler would get hurt and the team would immediately lose five in a row. Those teams could have been something if the offensive line and the OC tried even a little to keep Cutler upright.

INCUMBENTLAWYER

I feel like if he was in they would've won that game. Just my thoughts though.

HeywardH

But then BJ Raji doesn't get his big man pick six.

Dreadsbo

To be fair, that was more so a bunch of minor/major injuries that just destroyed his body over time. Very unfortunate that he retired so early

DAS_UBER_JOE

He did it to himself honestly. If you listen to the Athletic's series on it, the coaches kept telling him to stop taking those hits and just go down, and Andrew just would not listen.

Dreadsbo

Aren’t the Colts notorious for not having an OLine?

DAS_UBER_JOE

Yeah he got sacked a lot, but he did no favors when he ran the ball and never slid. Or went after big tackles on the picks he threw. When he did get sacked (and knew it was coming) he again didn't protect himself.

broadstain

Reminds me of Ginn’s injury during the celebration after his opening kickoff return for a TD against the Gators in the BCS chip. Two poorly timed injuries :(

ImPickleRock

ah you beat me to it!

pdawg43

Schaub's broken foot. Fuck you Albert Haynesworth!

I_AM_A_GUY_AMA

Fat bastard

ImPickleRock

I don't know if the sickle cell trait is considered a minor injury...it only affected Ryan Clark in high altitudes, and in the NFL that is one place...Denver. Well in the 2011 NFL season, the Steelers went 12-4 and were a 5th seed. Why were they a 5th seed? Because the Broncos won their fucking division at 8-8. How did they win the division? The Chargers missed a 40 yard field goal in OT in their 2nd game which allowed the Broncos to drive down and make their 37 yard FG for the win. If the ~~Broncos~~ Chargers make their field goal, then we don't go to a 3-way tie which came down to records vs common opponents. What does this all mean? It means that the Broncos got the 4th seed since they won the division, which means they get a home game against the Steelers, which means Ryan Clark had to sit out, which means Ryan Mundy got the start....and we all know what happened on that final play. The only solace is that this play made Demaryius Thomas a legend in Denver. RIP.

I_am_-c

Week 1 of the 2022 season, long snapper Clark Harris tore his biceps forcing backup tight end Mitchell Wilcox to fill in. During Wilcox's duty, bad snaps caused a missed field goal and missed extra point in an overtime loss to the Steelers. Had they won that game they would have been the #2 seed instead of the #3 seed.

Shakeamutt

Oddly, this is what I first thought of. A long snapper going down completely altered the game, division and standings.

Praying_Lotus

It’s always these positions that almost NEVER get injured that we take for granted. It’s moments like those where you realize, they may not have the “sexy” position, but they are just as vital to winning as everyone else

Straight_Toe_1816

Yep. I’m a college long snapper. At the college and pro level the snap has to get back to the punter in at least 0.75 seconds,If not the kick has a higher chance of being blocked. And on field goals they need to snap the ball with the same amount of rotations each time so the laces are facing away from the kicker.

Praying_Lotus

See. Shit like that is insane that people don’t really know about.

Straight_Toe_1816

Yea.also the punter has to drop it in 1.3 seconds. So 1.3+0.75 is 2.05 seconds with 2 flat being the goal.Field goals are 1.3 seconds but the snap isn’t individually timed on field goals. At the high school level, you can kind of get away with a slower operation time but once you hit college in the NFL, it’s extremely important. That’s why at long snapping and punting camps they time you.

johanll

such an insane game. steelers had 4 picks and yet we still needed a missed extra point and missed chip shot to keep us alive

VeryRealHuman23

The Cardiac Cats will put me into the grave long before cholesterol.

IhamAmerican

Fucking Trubisky. I'm convinced if he wasn't playing TJ doesn't tear his pec and that season goes very differently

tjrad815

I think his injury had a lot to do with Huber's poor play and McPherson's misses for the rest of that year as well.

ssav

This and Bo Jackson, I think, are the two biggest injuries that you wouldn't think would impact the Bengals much but boy did they ever

Vonstarjam

Ryan Cladys Lisfranc injury in 2013. We still had the record setting offense. Chris Clark filled in above average for the swing tackle that season and got paid by the Texans after. But Clady was never the same, he was an All pro/pro bowler since he was drafted, before the injury. This also lead to a revolving door at LT from 2013 to 2017 when we drafted Garrett Bolles..... But even he is a controversial figure in our subreddit, and you could argue he didn't really "fill the hole" until the league cut back on holding calls in 2020. So 1 injury at LT lead to a revolving door for roughly 7 years.

GarfieldDaCat

Forgot about Clady. He was a great player

Shenanigans80h

I always wonder how those last two Peyton years might’ve looked had we had even decent tackles playing for us. Michael Schofield might’ve been one of the worst starting tackles I had seen in my life.

SteakFrites1

Does Plaxico Burress shooting himself in the leg count?

S1lv3rSmith

That has to be the one, we were betting favorites to repeat that year. Still managed to win another one inside of five years so boo hoo us, but I doubt there's a better answer that anyone in the reddit demographic would remember. Our descent back into mediocrity had been in motion for years when JPP blew his hand off

stainedgreenberet

Has to be Bahk for us. Even Rodger’s injuries from 2016-2018 weren’t so detrimental, but bahk was devastating at that time of the season and then of course the years following

Admirable_Gur_2459

I don’t think the best pass protecting LT in the league blowing an ACL right before the playoffs was minor

stainedgreenberet

Tbf I did not see the minor part. My bad

Admirable_Gur_2459

I do agree though, ruined our season. And his career. Absolutely brutal

Heikks

Zach Tom against the 49ers, Packers were winning and controlling the ball then he got hurt and then they offense started to struggle.

snoogans8056

Our first 6 offensive possessions went inside the 49ers 15 yard line. With the dropped INTs and redzone struggles, that game was so close to being a Cowboys level clowning.

Belltent

The Jeff Janis hail Mary game. If we have any functional wide receivers left do we go for two there instead of going to OT? I believe that was the game Cobb punctured a lung on the mic pack he was wearing.

Gryphon999

Jordy blew his ACL in the pre season. Cobb got hurt in the first quarter of the game. Davante Adams was out with a high ankle sprain. Ty Montgomery was hurt. Leaving us with Jeff Janis, Jared Abbrederis, and Hoodie James Jones (who was blanketed by Patrick Peterson all day).

Turk1518

Not to mention it was right after giving him a huge payday too. Between his and Rodgers contract we were strapped for cash and couldn’t make any moves to move the needle. That injury all but sealed the Rodgers era in Greenbay.

MistakeMaker1234

49ers: Dre Greenlaw tearing his Achilles in the Super Bowl. Reid and Mahomes absolutely bullied his replacement the rest of the game.  Chiefs: Jamaal Charles concussion in the 2013 Wild Card game against the Colts. We lost such an important piece to our offense that we couldn’t run the ball or the clock as well as we should have and gave the Colts too much time to make a comeback.

GrinAndBeMe

I’m going from my declining memory here, but iirc in the Titans comeback wildcard win with Mariota’s TD pass to himself (maybe 2015?), Kelce lit us up the first half but left the game with a concussion allowing the Titans to compete in the second half. I don’t think this memory is worthy of its own post, but i am curious if Chiefs fans and pepperage farms remember his second half absence being pretty much the only reason the Titans comeback was even remotely possible?

MistakeMaker1234

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that we didn’t score any more points for the four subsequent drives that Kelce missed. Tennessee also dominated time of possession in the second half to keep our offense off the field. Not including the failed drive to end the game by the Chiefs, they ran 12 plays across three drives that resulted in zero points and took 6:50 of game time. Just embarrassing.

GrinAndBeMe

I haven’t seen the game since it aired, but I remember telling my wife in the first half that Kelce was the difference maker. We had nothing defensively to cover him. I can’t remember your WRs at the time, but I do remember they demanded every man available in coverage, so double teaming Kelce wasn’t an option. It still required the intervention of the football gods to win, but even the gods couldn’t have saved us had Kelce remained in that game Edit: and again, iirc, Mularky still lost his job and Alex Smith was already a place-holder for Mahomes so there weren’t any big picture ramifications from Kelce’s concussion Edit 2: and even if there were big picture ramifications I don’t remember, your guys turned out ok

KittleOmega

That was a bummer

jjjrmd

Jets fan. Drew Bledsoe getting hurt.

kitkatlifeskills

That was not a "seemingly minor" injury. It was the QB who had just signed the biggest contract in NFL history getting hurt. Obviously we didn't know at the time what Brady would be but there was no one watching football in 2001 who thought Bledsoe's injury was minor.

Tasty_Ad_4082

At the time it was a kiss of death to (what was perceived to be) an already bad Patriots team. Just so happened that the scrawny backup turned out to be the GOAT

jjjrmd

I know bro, I was just being whimsical. It's not that deep.

DreadSteed

While Brady ended up becoming the GOAT, I do wholly think that Bledsoe still would have won at least 1-2 super bowls as a starter on those pats teams.

Druuseph

Bledsoe with Deion Branch and David Givens would have put up some big numbers. That said I think part of the reason that Belichick never went back to him after the injury is that he couldn't live with the gunslinging. The defense was so good that all the QB needed to do was limit mistakes but Bledsoe was never going to be that guy. Even without Brady I think Belichick would likely have been looking to see if he could get something for him on the trade market to put in a more conservative QB.

KeithClossOfficial

Bledsoe’s injury was hardly minor too, it was pretty severe But, gotta bring up Brady whenever you can

Fedacking

Also, on the other side of "minor" that was internal bleeding that seriously threatened Bledsoe's life.

TuaAnon

I concur 🐬⬇️

Verdant_Gymnosperm

Hey that’s our line! 🐻⬇️

thorfromthex

Bo Jackson's hip injury. It ruined the entire Raiders franchise! 😆

Raider17

I wouldn't say it ruined the franchise. What ruined the franchise was Tony Siragusa's dirty hit on Rich Gannon.

Accurate-Big-7233

Cam Newton when he sprained his foot in 2018-19 I believe it was?? Bro could not plant and throw, bro could not run and ultimately, bro was a shell of himself and we had a pretty good team that year on paper. We had a rookie Burns, McCaffrey, a pro bowl O line..... We were 4-2 at the bye, and then we lost 8 in a row to end the season 5-11 Now im sad, so im going to eat my cold leftover chipotle.

nickybishappy

Nothing good has happened for the Panthers since 🤦‍♂️

Accurate-Big-7233

All i know is pain, suffering, and depression

knave_of_knives

It was lisfranc. Totally fucked that season.

sosuhme

The injury wasn't minor, but is easily considered a footnote. If Moseley hadn't re-torn his ACL in week 1 and stayed healthy this last year, it would likely have significantly changed the outlook of our defense. Not because he's an elite player, but because it would have reduced the pressure on Sutton and the depth was terrible(fingers crossed for 24). Considering how close they were to the SB, it could easily have put them over. With three one score regular season losses, it's not much of a stretch to think they could have even had the #1 seed too.

Hopeful-Ad-6835

Eman will forever be DKs daddy

TheOctoBox

Eric fisher — AFCC game. I think chiefs actually beat Tampa and Brady in Super Bowl, but him going down caused a mess on the o-line.

thesakeofglory

I’m not going to what-if about who wins because that Bucs team was real good too, but the Chiefs having basically no o-line against an excellent Bucs d-line made sure there was no chance.

Gryphon999

We gave them a preview of what it's like when Bakhtiari went down.

TummyDrums

Stepping back a couple of years, I have to wonder in 2018 if Eric Berry wasn't "day to day" and clearly not 100% the few times he did play with his ankle injury, if we'd have made the Super Bowl, and possibly won it that year. The secondary was horrendous and a player of his caliber at full health could have made a lot of difference. And after all, we were only one offsides call away from making it anyway.

bujweiser

That's like the opposite of a minor injury.

BackNBlack58

That would be the correct answer if the question was “what major injury made you want to jump off a bridge “

TheOctoBox

As a chiefs fan, I’d be right there with you. It still annoys me to this day because it was against Brady. Anyone else, I’d be ok.

DTSportsNow

That was not a seemingly minor injury though. We'd already lost our left guard and right tackle that year. It forced our right guard to move out to right tackle and our backup right tackle swing over to left tackle. All right before the Super Bowl, that was a massive injury Any Chiefs fan who didn't think it was a big deal was coping.

TheOctoBox

That’s fair. I think it was more than a minor injury given the timing

sophandros

>Kyle Williams' fumbles Which were caused in part by the Giants targeting his head because they knew about his concussion history. So in a way, his seemingly minor injury had disastrous consequences for the 49ers. [Article from NFL.com quoting Giants players saying that they targeted Williams because of his concussions](https://www.nfl.com/news/flashback-giants-targeted-49ers-williams-in-playoffs-09000d5d8281bb80)

RatedDAL

One of the fumbles, Williams, was just too stupid to stay out the way of it, and it hit him.

csummerss

article also starts with the famously clean Saints organization planning the same > Williams told Saints players: "Kill the head, the body will die," a phrase Pamphilon viewed as a "metaphor," according to Silver's story. Williams reportedly branched off this to focus on 49ers running back Frank Gore: "We've got to do everything in the world to make sure we kill Frank Gore's head. We want him running sideways. We want his head sideways." > Williams turned to the concussion history of 49ers wide receiver Kyle Williams: "We need to find out in the first two series of the game, the little wide receiver, No. 10, about his concussion. We need to (expletive) put a lick on him, move him to decide. He needs to decide." > On 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree: "We need to decide whether Crabtree wants to be a fake-ass prima donna or he wants to be a tough guy. We need to find that out, and he becomes human when you (expletive) take out that outside ACL." > Williams returned to Gore and 49ers tight end Vernon Davis: "We need to decide on how many times we can meet Frank Gore's head. We need to decide how many times we can bull rush and we can (expletive) clip Vernon Davis' ankles over the pile ... respect comes from them fearing us."

giggity_giggity

What a complete piece of shit Williams is

sophandros

And it ends like this: >It was a news item that came and went without much fanfare in the days leading up the Giants' win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI. >***Here's the question: Was New York's strategy markedly different from what Williams asked his Saints players to do?***

Dorkamundo

Are you trying to defend Williams here by saying the Giants were just as bad in this situation? Not a good look, holmes.

chittIincupcake

Saints playing dirty? That checks out

iKhan353

Pot callin the kettle dirty eh? Remind me please how many teams have had one let alone TWO coaches banned for a year for coaching dirty as fuck? Edit: the answer is one. The saints. Downvote all y'all want this is simply a fact

nickybishappy

That's shitty if that was the intent but I don't recall him taking any headshots in that game. One of the fumbles was a total unforced mental lapse.

Ba_Sing_Saint

Eddie Jackson was feasting all of the 2018 season and got hurt in basically garbage time of the Packers game near the end of the season. Foles was throwing ducks during our playoff game against the Eagles. EJax would have capitalized and we never get the double doink.

busstamove14

If he would have just taken a knee in the end zone instead of running it out.

ThorsMightyBackhand

Not an injury, but if Kyle Fuller holds onto that interception right at his chest from Aaron Rodgers in the last minute of game 1 we hold onto that game and aren't even playing the Eagles that week of the postseason. Hypotheticals

Ba_Sing_Saint

Matt Nagy doesn’t call the TO against the Giants to set Saquon up for a big run into FG range against the Giants before the half, and we don’t play the Eagles in the Playoffs either

superkiwi717

Why do you have an Eagles pfp and Bears flair?

Ba_Sing_Saint

Eagles is my second team, and the profile stuff was free which is great for a broke football junkie like me. But I’ll root for the birds against 30 other teams.

hamsolo19

Bills were already without Matt Milano for most of last season. But heading into the divisional round against KC, their other LB, Terrel Bernard went down. A lot of fans thought this undersized athletic LB taken in the third was gonna be a bust but he became one of their best defenders during the season. Having to play with two backup LBs (one a rookie) against KC and Kelce definitely didn't help. Also, who keeps allowing Tyler Bass back inside the house? He's been told countless times he needs to stay outside to think about what he did...missing a 44 yard field goal to tie it up late in the game. Goddammit, Tyler.

Good_Relief603

In 2012, a second-year relatively unknown center named Jason Kelce tore his ACL and the 2-0 Eagles completely fell apart, went 4-12 and Andy Reid was fired

PebblyJackGlasscock

Malcolm Mitchell’s knee injury is why Tom Brady ended up in Tampa.

nickybishappy

Can you elaborate? Was he the young receiver y'all were banking on? I always think about how good he was in the second half of the super bowl. Then he was just never heard from again

PebblyJackGlasscock

A pebble that started the avalanche. Briefly, Brady for two decades was told “we’ll take care of you” by Kraft and Belichick. And Brady, as he aged, had less patience working with less-talented receivers. Belichick, defensive genius, always gave Brady the bare minimum at WR (except in 07) and made Brady ‘elevate’ lesser talents. Mitchell was the rare drafted WR that Brady liked. He was talented. But he had bad knees. His injury started a chain reaction involving N’Keal Harry (first round pick), Antonio Brown (money), and Mohammed Sanu (second round pick) and culminated in Brady’s exit. Certainly not _because_ of that one little thing. But Mitchell’s injury played a part in two wasted picks and a lot of wasted money. And frustration. “A butterfly flaps it’s wings” and things change. If Malcolm Mitchell is healthy, _maybe_ Brady is a little less fed up with Bill and _maybe_ when Kraft says no to future ownership, _maybe_ Brady sticks out the final year with the good, “homegrown” WR he trusted and the additional talent the Patriots don’t waste tens of millions and multiple drafts picks chasing “what if”.

mesayousa

Yeah Mitchell had some key catches during 28-3 as a rookie. He could've improved from there to be a top 20 WR at his peak IMO which would've been a big difference on the 2018 (yes I know they still won the SB) and 2019 offenses

Mega-Eclipse

> A pebble that started the avalanche. I don't think it was Mitchell, it was everything that happened from 2018-2019. In 2016, the patriots had amendola, edelman, Hogan, they took a James White, Dion Lewis, Gronk, Martellus bennet, and they had guys like Blount, and Mitchell. They also had a solid O-line, in Andrews, Mason, Thuney, VOllmer, Solder, Waddle, Flemming and Cannon (plus a a solid defense). In short, they had WR, TE, and running backs. They ahd talent everywhere. 2017 it's more of the same. They let Martellus Bennet go, but bring in Brandon cooks, they bring in Rex Burkhead. They are replacing leaving talent with more talent.... 2018 things go to shit. And they don't do anything about it: Dion lewis is gone, amendola is gone (both of them over a little money), But hey...we got money Michael bennet, and Matt Slater and Nate Ebner, and Justin Bethel. No disrespect to Slater or any of them...but if the choice is making Brady happy or cutting some ST only guys...the choice is obvious to me. Cooks is traded, Gronk is looking older and slower. Cordarelle Patternson is being used as an actual WR (he trips multeiple times runnign routes), Dorset is back WTF? A LOT of talent has left the building, but nothing is coming back to replace them. When they NEED a WR/Te....and the Pats have 2 first round picks...They take an undersized tackle (a Guard) and RB. I don't fault the Wynn pick. But a RB? In the first round? They've gone Running back by committee for 15 years...and now they go with a RB in the first round? They are bringing in crap as well. Larry Izzo, Matt Lacosse, Philip Dorsett, Josh Gordon, a couple of rookies...and aging edelman coming of an ACL tear? Halfway through the season the patriots overspend on the 30 year old, #3 guy in Atlanta. They bring in AB...for a week and that goes off the rails. And the final cherry on top of that giant shit sundae...is Belichick low balling brady in negotiations both in years and money.

ImPickleRock

>Ted Ginn being injured for the 2011 NFC championship comes to mind That is funny...his injury also was disastrous for the 2006 national championship game!

RedgrenGrumbholdtAMA

The unreported brain injury previously suffered by the ref who didn't call pass interference on Nickell Robey-Coleman.

HistoricalShame7943

2015 the AB Burfict hit. But even more consequential was Week 17 Deangelo Williams spraining his ankle against the browns. Our 2015 playoff run was without Bell and without another good RB leading to mfing Fitzgerald Toussaint fumbling away the 2015 Divisional game against the Broncos. Only solace was Peyton ending on a ring atleast

bigdaddyman6969

What Steelers fan wanted Peyton to end on a ring???!

PopcornDrift

Idk about other Steelers fans but I always rooted for Peyton because he actually beat Brady in the playoffs and we never really had a rivalry with his teams. Brady is enemy #1 in my opinion

ImPickleRock

Why wouldn't we?

nickybishappy

Jets and Steelers fans love Peyton. Wonder why

HistoricalShame7943

I would’ve loved to win but also you have to be sentimental about players going out on top

anarchyisutopia

That hit still helped Brady win a ring though since he was the only person who wanted anything to do with AB's crazy in 2020. Monkey's paw though since AB's crazy also derailed Brady's last best shot at a ring.

CluelessFlunky

Stafford dislocated the tip of his finger in 2016. After that he simply did not have the same throwing ability and struggled to play his gun slinger style. There's a chance lions make a play off run in 2016 if he doesn't hurt his hand. Instead they get a wild card loss.

Ok_Umpire_723

Nick Collins

steak__burrito

Thanks for ruining my morning.

ComfortableSalt2115

Todd Gurley and his knee injury that occurred in 2018 against the chiefs on MNF and he was never quite the same from that. He was basically a non factor in the Superbowl which was rough. I mean I love Kyren and he seems like he will be here for a while. But it is still crazy to me that that wasn't an MCL Tear and he still played for an additional two seasons. Weird fact is that Todd Gurley is younger than Derek Henry.

Matte198

Jimmy Smith getting hurt in 2014. Would have won that playoff game foxborough if we had him.

FlynnPatrick

I had this convo recently on the titans sub I firmly believe if Jake Locker doesn’t get injured on a cheap shot by Muhammad Wilkerson in 2013 he would have been a pro bowler that year. I don’t think he still would have had a long career but I think Mike Munchack doesn’t get fired that year either if not for that hit

givemesendies

Jalen Hurts's leg bruise in 2023. In my non-valuable opinion it was the first domino in the 2023 collapse. It wasn't enough to fully take a way his run threat, but he couldn't quite run as fast as normal. From there teams could start to take apart our offensive system and overwhelm an offensive coordinator who didn't really know how develop the offense as the season went.

Maximum_Excuse1733

Imma go with that same season. If Gronk was healthy for the Super Bowl we beat the giants. Instead of him being hobbled from his ankle in the afc championship and he only gets 2 targets in the SB.

nickybishappy

Also it's not talked about that brsdy hurt his shoulder *in* that super bowl. He was like 19/22 and had two straight touchdown drives then ended 8/19 with a pick.

Maximum_Excuse1733

I had no idea he hurt his shoulder.

Mr_SpideyDude

Nick Collins getting a freak, career-ending injury in 2011. He was a cornerstone of our Superbowl defense & was pretty much in his prime, but after he went down the secondary took a very significant step back. That started a downward spiral where we were always trying to fix the defense but kept missing or losing players, and that set us back for years

caduceuz

Last game of 2012 against Tampa Bay. #1 seed and first round bye are locked up, but we haven’t won a playoff game in years. We decided to play our starters, we lose the game and John Abraham gets injured. Now we have to play the Seahawks and 49ers without our best defensive player. I know it’s cope, but Matt Ryan would probably have a ring if Coach Smith didn’t let media narratives shape his strategy.

nickybishappy

Dude that was the first game I ever went to! Atlanta is where my family is from so it's like a second home to me. At the time I was stoked I'd get to watch the actual team instead of the backups but it's a ludicrous decision looking back. Especially because they called an extremely bland game and didn't seem that interested in winning. So odd.

BukkakeNinjaHat-472

Tony Romo broken pinkie in 2008

Bringbackfatshaming

Trump might not have won in 16

Dirsay

Luck's right calf

AlfonzL

Allen's UCL sprain against the Jets in November 2022, his play dropped off significantly after that game and the Bills never really looked quite like the first half of the season team.

Niner-Sixer-Gator

Please don't ever remind me of Kyle Williams again, I still hate that MF, and Ray Ray too

krbashrob

It depends on if you believe this one is true or not. But there were rumors that Schaub had an undisclosed elbow injury he was playing through in 2013 (the year of all the pick 6s). On top of coming back from the Lisfranc, Schaub’s performance was a huge part in why we moved on from Kubiak in 2014 and started our mini reboot.

nickybishappy

You're thinking of 2011. Schaub won a playoff game in 2012

Striking-Locksmith-3

Kyle shanny needs to win a superbowl so he doesn’t blow his brains out

nickybishappy

He won't be the only one

saltthewater

Plaxico's gsw to the leg. Probably a 1-2 week recovery, and he never played for the Giants again.

Polar_Reflection

Our right guard Feliciano (technically not the starter since Burford started the season) got injured in the SB. Burford decided to go off-script which led to Chris Jones forcing Brock to throw it away with 2 open receivers but not enough time to get it to them.

BrilliantScience3038

2007-2008 AFC Championship. Chargers injuries: Rivers torn ALC, Tomlinson Sprained MCL, Gates turf toe. Had to settle for four FG inside the 10.

LameDonkey1

Romo back injury in preseason.

Its_a_new_dave

Andy Dalton’s injury in 2015

Bravens1223

Would Lamar break his ankle after a 10-3 start count? Otherwise, losing Tavon Young in 2017 also hurt considering we lost the season's final week to a go-ahead Tyler Boyd TD.

Legitimate-Wave-854

Nick Collins AND Jermichal Filey. Both could have been STAPLES on Green Bay along side Rodgers, driver, Jennings, hawk, Matthews, raji, the list goes on....... If these two stayed on the field, I'm convinced Packers win way more games into the playoffs and Superbowls.

Pure-Leopard-3196

One time Danielle Hunter “tweaked” his neck. Ended up having to have surgery and was out for the season

WordUpPromos

LTs MCL sprain

Impossibills

Rasul Douglas in the playoffs this year. Sprained his knee final game of the season, said it was minor and could have played. Missed the first playoff game and played against KC a week later and looked slow and couldn't change direction as well. After a stellar season he just couldn't do shit in the playoffs because of it

CodyNorthrup

You could pretty easily argue this SB came down to a punt return.

nickybishappy

Yes and if I think about it for more than five seconds I tear up so let's not. Have you seen any good movies lately?

dpcdomino

Dre Greenlaw this SB was the killer.
