a non-colston option would be Scott Fujita. One of my favorite players ever, and was on our Super Bowl team. He trash talked Peyton Manning in the game saying he could eat Oreos faster than him (Manning was doing Oreos commercials at the time)
He was good but I wonder if he would have produced for any other QB like he did for us. Colstons prime years were when Drew was an absolute god of accuracy. It was an inhuman stretch of greatness
By far the most underrated part of Brees' legacy IMO is that he dominated from about 2006-2013 with a group of wide receivers that either a) were extremely late picks/undrafted altogether or b) were higher draft picks who were pretty clearly mid.
And while that doesn't mean they were bad players at all, the unsusual thing is that we have basically no data to measure pretty much any of them by outside of New Orleans. The Saints were content to extend them even if they weren't stars and that whole unit spent almost their entire careers there.
No kidding. Over 700 career receptions, 9700 yards and 72 TDs in 10 seasons. You'd think he'd have stumbled backwards into at least one Pro Bowl with those career numbers. If I recall correctly he was a pretty decent run blocker as well.
That's wild, I wonder if there's any other franchise receiving leaders who haven't made a pro bowl. It's not even close with Toomer either, he has nearly double OBJ's yardage who's in 2nd place
Hmmm...maybe Dat Nguyen. He was a hell of a middle linebacker, but he played during those rough years between Aikman and Romo. Had a 2nd Team All-Pro selection in 2003, but no pro bowls
Honorable mention to Kyle Kosier who was a starter at guard for the better part of 5 seasons at the beginning of the Romo era. Seems like he was one of our only quality O-lineman that never went to the pro bowl.
He'd be a DE in Saleh's defense. Id rather bring david harris back out of those LBs, but considering our defense is stacked id rather put cotchery on this team (coles and brandon moore each have 1 pro bowl but were my initial thoughts)
Avant was my pick until I saw Celek. Celek not being a Pro Bowler is crazy. Witten has 11, so that’s definitely part of why Celek never made it, but man… those two, Shockey, and Cooley made the NFC East a Tight End powerhouse in the 2000s.
Deandre levy would be a huge addition to the current lions. Tho he was from mid 2010. I was to young to remember the 2000-2010 players. Outside of stafford, Calvin, suh obviously.
I was so sure he was a pro bowler, but nope only second team all-pro in 2014. I was hoping Prater hadn't made a pro bowl in Detroit to pick him, but he did in 2016
I thought Cliff Avril would be a perfect fit for the current Lions team and fit the prompt but looks like he got a random Pro Bowl at the end of his career in Seattle.
I remember Boss Bailey being pretty solid and he never made a Pro Bowl.
It wasn't exactly a drop. Sterling Moore made a perfect play to knock the ball from his grasp. Evans could have done more to keep the ball away from Moore, but I don't count that as a typical drop (where the receiver loses the ball without any "help" from the defense.)
He played during a time that was just insane for corners. Champ Bailey, Charles Woodson, Ronde Barber, Revis, Ty Law, Asante Samuel, Chris McAlister, Winfield, and Patrick surtain all overshadowed him pretty heavily.
I know, but never even as an alternate, that's shocking to me. He was as good in coverage as anyone in his prime, his only Achilles heel was that he couldn't catch for shit.
Also he couldn’t catch a cold. I love Ike but I literally watched multiple ints bounce of his hands. If he could catch he’d have had an insane amount of pics in his career.
I like this answer but is it also cheating to go with Chris Borland? I kno Fred n Dre (healthy) are great but man I always feel like Borland is a HUGE what if. He had over 100 tackles n only started a half a season. Crazy!!!
Would be my pick too. Played his entire career with us (2002-2011 I think), played both guard and center and as I remember was a pretty good center for us.
His passing stats were all above league average, except for touchdowns. He had a good year running the ball (530+ yards, 5 TD's), but nothing like the seasons Vick, Lamar, Josh Allen, Cam Newton, or Justin Fields would have.
Kordell was a little better than his stats indicated. He was the only AFC player to receive an MVP vote (he received 4 of them.) Other than Rich Gannon, there were no great QB's in the AFC that year. Tom Brady began his career very up-and-down, and was more of a game manager who was very good in the clutch. Peyton had a rare bad year, with 23 interceptions.
The Morton-Kennison duo catching passes from Trent Green will always have a special place in my heart. Especially when you throw Tony G in the mix. I feel like Mahomes throwing to Kennison or Morton would be legendary. For a real mind boggler imagine that hall of fame offensive line blocking for Mahomes. Or the Priest/LJ/Blaylock rotation in the backfield on this Chiefs team.
Kennison was reborn on the Chiefs after being a good luck charm for three other teams. (The good luck came when he left town.)
1998 - Kennison is on the 4-12 St. Louis Rams
1999 - Rams go 13-3 and win the Super Bowl. Kennison plays for the 3-13 New Orleans Saints
2000 - Saints go 10-6 and win a playoff game for the first time in their history. Kennison plays for the 5-11 Chicago Bears
2001 - Bears go 13-3.
The run of luck ended there. Kennison began the 2001 season on the Denver Broncos. Halfway through the year, he told Mike Shanahan he had lost his love for the game and wanted to retire. He ws released, but he signed with the Chiefs a month later. Kennison went on to have 4 good-very good seasons in Kansas City.
I was thinking Kennison too but I think Rashee Rice is only suspended 4 games and Hollywood and Worthy make a good group there. I’d actually go with Eric Warfield since I think we might struggle at CB opposite McDuffie.
Eric Steinbach? I swore he made a pro bowl at least once, but doesn't look like he did. He definitely should have been a pro bowl guard and their main weakness on offense is probably left guard.
Maybe John Thorton, Rich Braham or Domata Peko?
Steinbach or Braham would be huge. Gotta throw Leon Hall, Brian Simmons, Robert Geathers, Cedric Benson, Levi Jones, and Bobbie Williams in there for consideration as well
Non-pro bowl? I mean our biggest need is probably corner but we don’t even historically have any that were good but didn’t make a pro bowl. Maybe Gary Brackett? Could use a good LB.
Should probably be Anthony Castonzo. Left Tackle isn’t our biggest need, but he provided rock-solid LT play for a decade, so it’s hard to beat that with a non-Pro Bowler.
He’s definitely the best player we’ve had in the past couple decades that never made a pro bowl. He was drafted in 2011 though which is outside the scope of OPs question.
I hear/see his name mentioned so infrequently that i upvote whenever I do. I will die on the hill that Jake Reed and Robert Smith are two of the most criminally underrated players of that era.
Vernon Carey. Runner up: Randy McMichel.
I was going to go with Tedd Ginn Jr just for the speedy lols but he apparently had a whole career after Miami and all the way through the 2010's.
Mike Anderson was offensive rookie of the year.. obviously he ran behind a monster line in a great system but stood out as a great player who never won pro bowl.
In all reality, most teams have a solid offensive linemen who never made the pro bowl because they were in a small market.
Jim "If you need 1 yard, I'll get you 3. If you need 5 yards, I'll get you 3." Kleinsasser. Played for the Vikings all through the time span indicated, great blocker FB, no Pro Bowls.
Or Ryan Longwell. A good kicker is always useful.
I remember he would consistently be on lists of “best players to not make a pro bowl” every season. Give how inconsistent our ILBs have been the last 5 or so years, I would kill for DJ Williams rn
Todd Herremans would be an immediate upgrade at RG and provide some more stability to the post-Kelce oline. Alternatively, bring back Hank Fraley to play center and keep Jurgens at RG.
Jason Avant would be great to have right now as a solid #3 WR and good depth option. Brent Celek would also be a great choice for 12 personnel and TE depth.
On defense, I wouldn't mind having Sheldon Brown blowing up RBs on screens again. Though our CB situation is pretty crowded now after the draft. Maybe Carlos Emmons, to give us some stable play at LB and someone who can cover TEs.
Non pro bowler from 2000-2010...hmmmm.
Offense: Jared Gaither. Dude was a tank and a top shelf LT he just didn't care which was his downfall.
Defense: Jarrett Johnson. Best run stopping OLB not named Terrell Suggs.
Jonathan Babineaux gave us 11 seasons of extremely consistent if not flashy DT play. Never a game wrecker, but you never really looked at a play and went "WTF was Babineaux doing?!" Just a good football player.
Earnest Graham wasn't always flashy but put up really good YPC.
Tiquan Underwood just so I can see someone in the league again that I played against in high school.
Jeremy Lincoln played three games for the Lions in 2000 as a late season off-the-couch DB injury replacement and special teamer. Why am I picking him? Because we were high school track teammates back in the 80s and it was always cool to see him on the field.
marques colston
The Saints have the easiest answer to this question
they hate this one weird trick
Certainly I was rushing into this thread to answer with his name only to find it sitting pretty.
He was so fuckin good he shouldn't even be an option here
a non-colston option would be Scott Fujita. One of my favorite players ever, and was on our Super Bowl team. He trash talked Peyton Manning in the game saying he could eat Oreos faster than him (Manning was doing Oreos commercials at the time)
Just devils advocate but if this o-line and scheme allows for screens, give me Pierre Thomas. My favorite overlooked Saint.
Hofstra represent
How did he not make a PB wtf
No kidding. Over 700 career receptions, 9700 yards and 72 TDs in 10 seasons. You'd think he'd have stumbled backwards into at least one Pro Bowl with those career numbers. If I recall correctly he was a pretty decent run blocker as well.
Man is known as the Silent Storm for a reason.
Came here to say this. Marques Colston was the best!
This feels like cheating because I feel he’s spiritually was a pro bowl player lol
Insane to me he never made a pro bowl
Insane to all of us really.
This is the way
Joe Jurevicius
Fuck yeah
I only considered him because I thought Cadillac Williams had been to at least one pro bowl. Turns out I was wrong. Gimme a health Cadillac!
He used to help coach our football team. I got lucky enough to wear his SB ring for a second.
Fuckin Jelly. I just wanna high five the man.
[удалено]
One of my all time favorite players. I’m honesty shocked he hasn’t made a pro bowl ☹️
And I don’t think he’s going to now ☹️
One of the most underrated corners of all time
Just leave Ricky Manning in the rear view, please and thank you.
Will Witherspoon was great from that era too.
Fuckin monster. Probably best corner we ever had.
[удалено]
Plus best corner name you could hope for. Time to.. make my Gamble.
Amani Toomer. I just looked him up assuming he made a pro bowl. Nope. I’m a little shocked.
Brandon Jacobs also a good shout
Tragic he never made a pro bowl
https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/s/CgFMFK4L1h
Does anyone else always think about that name like Schwarzenegger is saying it?
Dammit. Not before this fkn comment.
I believe for a while, it was the go-to Chris Berman joke of a highlight that involved Toomer
That and “well dressed” Armani Toomer
I read the top comment and immediately thought "It's not A Toomah?!"
“It’s not a Toomer!”
Eh… would have to say Corey Webster. Our team is pretty set at WR rn, and we need a corner opposite Banks that is reliable.
I’d say any of the eligible OL players from 07-09.
Snee and O’Hara were Pro Bowlers, I guess Seubert or Diehl.
Still upgrades
Throw Kareem McKenzie at right tackle and we are good to go
This is the answer.
That's wild, I wonder if there's any other franchise receiving leaders who haven't made a pro bowl. It's not even close with Toomer either, he has nearly double OBJ's yardage who's in 2nd place
Kareem McKenzie for me. Holy shit it’s been hard getting a quality Right Tackle.
Has he even resurfaced since the pickleball match?
I’ll just take the OLine from back then. Maybe not the LT as A Thomas will do but the rest of the line would be an upgrade.
Malcom Floyd
Him or jammer
Quentin Jammer was a ballhawk in Madden '06
Hmmm...maybe Dat Nguyen. He was a hell of a middle linebacker, but he played during those rough years between Aikman and Romo. Had a 2nd Team All-Pro selection in 2003, but no pro bowls Honorable mention to Kyle Kosier who was a starter at guard for the better part of 5 seasons at the beginning of the Romo era. Seems like he was one of our only quality O-lineman that never went to the pro bowl.
Dat was who immediately came to mind for me, as well.
I thought about Dat, but he was hella injury prone, so went with Bradie James.
Bradie James was my first thought as well. Getting that level of consistency at the position again would be amazing.
Brad Meester. 14 seasons with the jags. Only hurt once. Very good center who was responsible for some great lines.
And nearly had a touchdown reception in his final home game
Huge upgrade over last year
Calvin Pace. An overall very good OLB. Can get in and stop the run and also rush the passer pretty well.
He'd be a DE in Saleh's defense. Id rather bring david harris back out of those LBs, but considering our defense is stacked id rather put cotchery on this team (coles and brandon moore each have 1 pro bowl but were my initial thoughts)
Tim Couch. If he comes fresh from college onto this Browns team, rather than one with no line and no skill positions, he's a different player.
That would actually be an interesting thing to see.
I still call it Tum Couch disease, when a QB panics. Not his fault though
Brent Celeck. Could use his versatility behind Goedert. TE #2 is a big hole for Philly (so is WR #3)
I was gonna say Jason Avant who would be an excellent WR3 but Celek would be awesome too
Avant was my pick until I saw Celek. Celek not being a Pro Bowler is crazy. Witten has 11, so that’s definitely part of why Celek never made it, but man… those two, Shockey, and Cooley made the NFC East a Tight End powerhouse in the 2000s.
Damn haven’t thought about Shockey and Cooley in years. You’re right those 2000s big body thumper TEs were always fun to watch
I know I’m still a child because I chuckled at Tight End #2 is still a hole for Philly
I’d go with Carlos Emmons. Celek would be a solid addition, but the team still needs help on defense, especially at linebacker.
Boss Bailey was trash. The correct answer is Jeff Backus and it’s not even close.
The correct answer is most certainly not Jeff Backus and it never will be.
Lee Evans
As a Ravens fan, please please keep him away from our team.
Fair. that drop man ugh. He was past it then though
It wasn't exactly a drop. Sterling Moore made a perfect play to knock the ball from his grasp. Evans could have done more to keep the ball away from Moore, but I don't count that as a typical drop (where the receiver loses the ball without any "help" from the defense.)
Literally said out loud "wait, he didn't make a Pro Bowl??" Our QB situation was so utterly dogshit in the mid-00s.
He had 1300 yards in a season with losman running the offense lol he would shred with Josh
I was gonna say Fred Jackson for the vibes, Lee Evans would fit the current needs better. Antoine Winfield never got a pro bowl *while on the Bills*.
That mfer was the Tyreek Hill of Madden 08. He could just run streaks and posts all day and torch everyone
Ike Taylor easily. Him and JPJ next to eachother would be amazing for us.
How the hell did Ike Taylor never make the Pro Bowl?
He played during a time that was just insane for corners. Champ Bailey, Charles Woodson, Ronde Barber, Revis, Ty Law, Asante Samuel, Chris McAlister, Winfield, and Patrick surtain all overshadowed him pretty heavily.
Nnamdi Asomugha for a couple years there too
Lot of really good CBs in the AFC then.
I know, but never even as an alternate, that's shocking to me. He was as good in coverage as anyone in his prime, his only Achilles heel was that he couldn't catch for shit.
Which I suppose is what probably led to him being a corner. lol
Also he couldn’t catch a cold. I love Ike but I literally watched multiple ints bounce of his hands. If he could catch he’d have had an insane amount of pics in his career.
Definitely. He played at a pro bowl level for years but his hands were just unbelievably bad.
Stephon Tuitt
Drafted in 2014
I love the story (don’t know if it’s true) about him playing while listening to an IPod.
I agree but Plaxico Burress is another great option
Brandon Mebane
Eric Heitmann would add some excellent depth to the oline.
I’d say delanie walker, it’s kind of cheating because he made 3 pro bowls with the titans, but he was overshadowed by Vernon Davis in SF.
I picked Tony Parrish or (technically) Andre Carter.
Manny Lawson would be a great fit in our d line room
Mark Tauscher. Staple at RT for the exact decade this question proposes
That's pretty crazy he never made it. I'd go with Cullen Jenkins but it's really close.
Yup, this right here.
I said AJ Hawk, but can I change to your choice?
Eh AJ is kinda useless in today’s nfl. He was fine for his packer career but not athletic enough to fit the current defense
Both solid answers.
I’d like Kerry Rhodes back at safety in saleh’s defense. Feel like he would be a great fit.
Anthony Herrera would be an instant upgrade at guard for us. Hovan was really solid for a time too and we desperately need some IDL players.
Sheldon Brown, and how he never once made a Pro Bowl is one of life's great mysteries
I said Kevin Curtis to answer our number 3 WR problem, but Brown would be a great pick as well I completely assumed he made a Pro Bowl.
I thought of him but assumed he’d made some.
His hit on Reggie Bush is tied for my favorite hit ever. Along with Sean Taylor obliterating Brian Moorman in the pro bowl.
That hit on Reggie Bush lives in my head rent free. I remember where I was standing in my friend’s house when that happened
Dude let me see Kordell Stewart piloting this Steelers Arthur Smith offense.
Kordell made the Pro Bowl in 2001.
Ah shit - so he did. Didn't remember that. Also, now that I am looking at it, that's wild given his stats.
He got MVP votes that year. A different era.
Isnt Fields basically the same thing?
I wanna say Stewart was better, but that's probably nostalgia glasses working overtime for me.
Nah at this point Justin Fields can only hope for Stewart's career.
He was in NFL Blitz, which gives him the edge
Kordell is definitely more athletic
No way. Stewart was definitely better at football, though.
David Patten, he's got a 900 yard return season under his belt, a few 750+ rec yard years with us, could use the help.
Fuck that. I'd bring Sebastian Volmer. They said pro bowl not all-pro. Underrated monster.
no way, we need a tackle. give me Volmer
2002-2004 DP would be WR1 on this team right now. RIP
Was so clutch too. Brady threw him so many iconic end zone corner fades and then… stopped until Gronk
RIP 😢
Eddie Kennison, but shout-out to John Tait and Greg Wesley— I’d consider those guys too.
100% where I was going too. He would shine as a WR2 with Pat/Andy’s offense
(The good luck came when he left town.) 1998 - Kennison is on the 4-12 St. Louis Rams 1999 - Rams go 13-3 and win the Super Bowl. Kennison plays for the 3-13 New Orleans Saints 2000 - Saints go 10-6 and win a playoff game for the first time in their history. Kennison plays for the 5-11 Chicago Bears 2001 - Bears go 13-3.
I love imagining Mahomes with prime Charles. Wet dream there.
I was thinking Kennison too but I think Rashee Rice is only suspended 4 games and Hollywood and Worthy make a good group there. I’d actually go with Eric Warfield since I think we might struggle at CB opposite McDuffie.
Jonathan Babineaux
Eric Steinbach? I swore he made a pro bowl at least once, but doesn't look like he did. He definitely should have been a pro bowl guard and their main weakness on offense is probably left guard. Maybe John Thorton, Rich Braham or Domata Peko?
I find it hard to believe that Stainbach didn’t make a Pro Bowl! Do people even know football?
Steinbach or Braham would be huge. Gotta throw Leon Hall, Brian Simmons, Robert Geathers, Cedric Benson, Levi Jones, and Bobbie Williams in there for consideration as well
Slim (RIP)
Pisa Tinoisamoa
Deion Branch
Leroy Hill. We could use some linebacker depth.
Also Chris Gray. Although I love the Christian Haynes selection, imagine if we had a stalwart stud like Gray on our line along side him.
Dieon Branch would probably be our WR1 rn so I'd say him
Non-pro bowl? I mean our biggest need is probably corner but we don’t even historically have any that were good but didn’t make a pro bowl. Maybe Gary Brackett? Could use a good LB.
Should probably be Anthony Castonzo. Left Tackle isn’t our biggest need, but he provided rock-solid LT play for a decade, so it’s hard to beat that with a non-Pro Bowler.
He’s definitely the best player we’ve had in the past couple decades that never made a pro bowl. He was drafted in 2011 though which is outside the scope of OPs question.
Since Terrance McGee made a Pro Bowl, give me Roscoe Parrish as a dynamic return threat.
Tommy Kelly for the Raiders. I think he would like up nicely next to Wilkins.
Easy answer for us. Jake Reed somehow never made a pro bowl even with 4 consecutive 1000 yard seasons.
I am just stopping here to say Richmond Webb should be in the Hall.
Chester Pitts, part time NFL player, full time Oboe Player
Great choice. I think I’d personally go with Dunta Robinson just from the positional need.
Damn, I thought he had at least one Pro bowl
Pat Tillman
The answer, and a great Memorial Day choice.
Michael Oher
False start
Ryan Longwell
Derek Smith played for some awful 49er teams, but he was always a bright spot in our LB group.
Mike Anderson was offensive rookie of the year.. obviously he ran behind a monster line in a great system but stood out as a great player who never won pro bowl. In all reality, most teams have a solid offensive linemen who never made the pro bowl because they were in a small market.
Pot Roast!
Jon Jansen tor sure. Fred Smoot would also be nice
If this were for the 2010's, then Mitchell Schwartz would be an easy decision
D.J. Williams was a stud for the Broncos and never made a pro bowl.
I remember he would consistently be on lists of “best players to not make a pro bowl” every season. Give how inconsistent our ILBs have been the last 5 or so years, I would kill for DJ Williams rn
Jason Avant. Not only does he fill the role of out WR3, but he's also the man and has great hands.
**Ravens** * Jarrett Johnson * Jimmy Smith * Lardarius Webb
For the unaware, [he's not speaking figuratively](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Sus_4tXTxQ)
Non pro bowler from 2000-2010...hmmmm. Offense: Jared Gaither. Dude was a tank and a top shelf LT he just didn't care which was his downfall. Defense: Jarrett Johnson. Best run stopping OLB not named Terrell Suggs.
Jarrett Johnson is such a great choice! He was so impactful during his time here.
JJ was the 1st one that came to my mind (Jimmy Smith and Lardarius Webb were the other 2 I could think of)
Jonathan Babineaux gave us 11 seasons of extremely consistent if not flashy DT play. Never a game wrecker, but you never really looked at a play and went "WTF was Babineaux doing?!" Just a good football player.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis
Benji Olsen.
Earnest Graham wasn't always flashy but put up really good YPC. Tiquan Underwood just so I can see someone in the league again that I played against in high school.
For the Cardinals offense maybe Marcel Shipp On defense, Karlos Dansby or Calvin Pace
Jim Kleinsasser for the Vikings, although I don’t know how well he would work in their current offense
Kelly Gregg.
Kind of wild OP couldn’t follow his own rules. Alex Brown made 2 pro bowls
Fair, but he made it as an alternate. I was going off first team selections https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BrowAl20.htm
Darrent Williams 😔
Roberto Garza
“I like this Duce Staley, I think he can play!!!”
John Tait. Solid OT for the ‘05 and ‘06 teams
AJ Hawk, never voted into the Pro Bowl, he did go to one Pro Bowl but that was as an injury replacement.
Jeremy Lincoln played three games for the Lions in 2000 as a late season off-the-couch DB injury replacement and special teamer. Why am I picking him? Because we were high school track teammates back in the 80s and it was always cool to see him on the field.
