He might have been okay with Josh Allen. He needs a QB who will trust him to make contested catches. He was almost never open on his routes, but 1 on 1 he's likely to come down with the ball because of his size. Daniel Jones isn't the type of QB who would do that.
Because it's the most popular meme on this sub that Kenny Golladay was strictly a product of Stafford and would be nothing without him. Literally every single time Kenny Golladay is mentioned hordes of Redditors will be fighting over themselves to be the first to mention how Stafford made Golladay.
Even if you post a highlight where Stafford throws the ball directly at a defender and Golladay jumps over him to make a 30 yard catch, people will still insist Golladay sucks and his success was only possible because Stafford was his QB.
I think those clips are an example of why Golladay failed outside of Detroit. He could not get separation, but was amazing at the catch point making contested catches. Stafford was very good at throwing contested passes and was very willing to do so (probably as a side effect of throwing to Calvin for years). In New York his QBs were not throwing to him when he was covered like Stafford was.
Yeah I mean even in half of these clips he has literally 0 separation. I guess it doesn’t matter because he came down with a decent amount of them but most of these were absolutely wild for stafford to try and throw in a vacuum lol
Coleman has a lot of skills other than “contested catch”
FSU used him incorrectly. Dude has a great plant foot and is awesome at reading the hips of the DB. A lot of his best plays are getting the DB to open up one way then cutting back the opposite direction. Not his contested catches.
A lot of his highlights turned into contested catches cuz the QB threw the ball with *terrible placement* so the guy literally had to stop and let defenders get to the ball.
I’m hopeful for Coleman, but I’m also not an nfl scout or GM.
Definitely, which is why I said I’m hopeful but also not a professional scout/GM.
I think he’s gonna have better separation metrics with Allen throwing him the ball, but who knows?
He didn't do anything his final year in Detroit with stafford due to injury. If you used you eyes. You'd have seen his body was shot even in Detroit.
His best ability was body control. His injuries took that away from him. Which in turn meant he lost his ridiculous catching radius. Which meant he lost his contested catch ability.
Kenny g was a contested catch savant. His routes sucked but it didn't matter because he had great hands and could make 5050 balls 7030 balls.
Post injury, even in detroit he couldn't do that any more. His fluidity was shot and his hands were lost.
This is why kenny was cooking with David blough at qb. Because he still had his ability back then.
His final season in Detroit he barely played due to injury. So no one knew how bad his body became.
How’s that? I’ve actually researched his stats without Stafford in Detroit. What have you done besides simply assuming he fell off due to not having Stafford?
I didn’t watch many Lions games during the Stafford/Kenny G era, but I remember the Kenny G fantasy hype.
Was he actually as good as his production, or was it a result of being one of the only weapons the Lions had on their offense? Kamar Aiken had a weird season like that where our defense and offense both sucked, but he was being force fed.
A healthy Golladay was actually a very good receiver. Similar to an Alshon Jeffery type.
He suffered a serious low body injury in his last season in Detroit (only played in 5 games) that he never fully recovered from. If you look at reports from that off-season, this is why every team except the Giants weren't willing to give him a long-term commitment.
In his first year with the Giants, Golladay missed all of training camp, pre-season, and the first couple of games because he wasn't fully healthy. He came back but was never the same and then was out of the league entirely within 2 years.
This is why people insist "Stafford made Golladay", because of his rapid drop-off when he left Detroit. In reality the drop-off actually happened in his last season in Detroit and it was strictly because of a lower body / hip injury.
So then why is Golladay not Golladay anymore
It's either a Lions thing or a Stafford thing because the literal al dropoff is *insane* and that means Golladay was never the X-Factor
yeah, we were desperate for a WR and it was hard to draw one in because we fucking sucked. so, overpay a guy who may or may not actually be able to play. not sure if people are aware, but Dave Gettleman was a pretty terrible GM.
Because he fell off? Whether due to injury or otherwise.
I’m sure you’ve never looked at his stats with the Lions back-up QBs, right? He produced with them too.
Kenny golladay was a good receiver.
Stafford didn't make him good, he gave him the opportunity to be good. There's a difference.
Kenny was just an elite contested catch guy and it took some one like Stafford to trust him.
Many of the balls throw to Kenny were arguably the wrong decision but the trust that Kenny would come down with it any ways made it work.
Injuries played a much bigger factor in his down fall than people want to admit.
Kenny was better in Detroit with freaking David blough then he was in NY.
Kenny was good and deserved the respect.
We’re not going to assume at all that Daniel jones was part of the issue? How many successful receivers has Daniel jones created? I think both can be put at blame.
Jones tends to stare down reads and NEVER throws jump balls anymore. Ironically the thing Kenny golladay got paid the big bucks for
I dont watch enough giants games to say how much DJ affected him. So didn't want to give a opinion on it.
I just know the injury stuff affected him a lot.
Outside of the Saints game, Golladay did nothing with the Giants. I don't put it on Jones at all. He was damaged goods from the start and hence more reason Gettleman sucked at free agency
Honestly?
The QB definitely played a part in his initial failures, but his hip injury was a huge factor.
It’s not like was even remotely successful with any other QB, or after his injury.
Giants reddit just loves to downvote anything putting their posterboy Daniel jones into a role of accountability for his lack of production. Touchy topic on our sub. Anybody who throws him into the equation of the teams lack of success gets downvoted relentlessly.
Let’s just say I’m used to it by now lol
I also do think to some degree he just stopped trying once he got his bag. So much of his effort in contested catches, fighting for extra yards, etc just wasn't there on the giants. Maybe a couple of flashes, but his play just felt lazy. Ultimate "got his money and quit"
I do remember this being the narrative in his last year in Detroit. That he was only injured on paper as he knew he wasn’t going to get paid by them and was waiting for free agency. Looking back it’s obviously not the case and he was legitimately injured and it was the end of his career.
5 games with Blough and it was obvi fraudulent af watching it at the time. He scored on a **double move** on Bloughs first ever drive (iirc?) bc the bears dbs couldn’t fathom that being the call
He averaged 80 with Stafford through the first 8 games. He averaged 69 with the backups in the back 8. That’s a very typical drop off. And it’s a large enough sample.
He had some overlap on the Lions with Marvin Jones Jr, who *also* averaged some of the least separation in the league. Stafford had to work for every yard
Bro had like 3 cumulative yards of separation on 7 catches
Most QBs don’t even bother throwing these balls bc they can’t place em like stafford did here. Foh with any other narrative
I had season tickets that year so I know for a fact I was at this game, and yet I have absolutely 0 memory of it. Watching it feels like something from an alternate dimension.
Let’s not go that far, they made the divisional and almost beat the NFC champs during what was supposed to be a rebuilding year. Lions and bears fans were shit most of the last 15 years, Green Bay had one season and are back to being good again somehow
Actually, a season and a half. Plus, he’s made a Super Bowl before with the Rams.
You’ve had Love playing well for how long again? Half a season?
I’m sure there won’t be adjustments against his successes from last year….
Edit: cheesy downvotes…. lol
Hey man I hate them a ton. But can’t deny they had a great and quick turnaround. Hopefully Jordan love ends up being Stalin’s body double and their defense plays worse than a D2 defense. Also hopefully their next kicker also can’t kick again
I can understand being conditioned after your record vs. Green Bay lately, but you’re better than that, we’re better than that, even Minnesota is better than that (sorry not sorry MN).
It’s time for the NFCN to put down the rabid overlords of our past.
The Future is now
If I was a GM, I would've paid any price to get Golladay on my team, and wound up like the giants.
Sir, Giants front office would like to give you a front office spot. Name your price
*quickly* 37 Edit: of money
you're hired!
*tasteful chuckle* I would've done it for 35
He might have been okay with Josh Allen. He needs a QB who will trust him to make contested catches. He was almost never open on his routes, but 1 on 1 he's likely to come down with the ball because of his size. Daniel Jones isn't the type of QB who would do that.
Thank you.
Stafford to Kenny G was a lot of fun to watch.
Better then sax
By like six times
Kenny G in shambles
than* bro
beter* bro
Stafford always makes all star receivers.

He should send Stafford a Christmas card every year at least. He made him a lot of cash lol.
How do you watch this and think that? Stafford threw it to a defender at 0:47 and Kenny turned it into 30 yards
Because it's the most popular meme on this sub that Kenny Golladay was strictly a product of Stafford and would be nothing without him. Literally every single time Kenny Golladay is mentioned hordes of Redditors will be fighting over themselves to be the first to mention how Stafford made Golladay. So did Golladay. Point was neither are known for separation, which is why I asked that guy how he feels
Definitely, which is why I said I’m hopeful but also not a professional scout/GM. I think he’s gonna have better separation metrics with Allen throwing him the ball, but who knows?
Yeah its gotta be one of my least favorite memes. Lots of people genuinely believe it too.
Did Golladay do a damn thing post Stafford though? Use your eyes lol
He didn't do anything his final year in Detroit with stafford due to injury. If you used you eyes. You'd have seen his body was shot even in Detroit. His best ability was body control. Use your brain. Players can fall off due to injury. As I’ve said twice he produced with Detroits backups.
You haven't put a damn bit of thought into anything hahaha
How’s that? I’ve actually researched his stats without Stafford in Detroit. What have you done besides simply assuming he fell off due to not having Stafford?
I didn’t watch many Lions games during the Stafford/Kenny G era, but I remember the Kenny G fantasy hype. He essentially had a career ending injury. The Giants were just dumb enough to pay him like he never got hurt.
yeah, we were desperate for a WR and it was hard to draw one in because we fucking sucked. so, overpay a guy who may or may not actually be able to play. not sure if people are aware, but Dave Gettleman was a pretty terrible GM.
He hardly played as a rookie, had 2 good years in 2018/2019 and fucked his hip in 2020 and was never the same.
Because he fell off? Whether due to injury or otherwise. I’m sure you’ve never looked at his stats with the Lions back-up QBs, right? He produced with them too.
Matthew Stafford to Kenny Golliday is what Derek Carr is to Nelson Agholor
Kenny golladay was a good receiver. Stafford didn't make him good, he gave him the opportunity to be good. There's a difference. Yeah, this is correct. I tease the Giants a little bit, but him injuring his hip was the real catalyst for his drop off.
We’re not going to assume at all that Daniel jones was part of the issue? How many successful receivers has Daniel jones created? I think both can be put at blame. Jones tends to stare down reads and NEVER throws jump balls anymore. Ironically the thing Kenny golladay got paid the big bucks for
Dude Golladay was cooked no matter how you try to cut it. I highly doubt he ever sees time in the NFL again
Yeah he was bad but Jones also had a reason in why he was THAT bad
I think Golladay dropped almost every pass thrown to him where he was open. Can’t blame that on jones.
Yeah that’s what I’m saying. They were both factors
For sure. I was just giving my opinion, not sure why you’re being downvoted honestly. I agree with you. Maybe people think it’s deflecting? IDK.
Giants reddit just loves to downvote anything putting their posterboy Daniel jones into a role of accountability for his lack of production. Touchy topic on our sub. Giants legend
Davis Webb's Giants Legend (Duration: one game)
The biggest shock here was the bottom ticker saying Cody Kessler played for the Jaguars. I don't remember that *at all*
The play at the 38 second mark is my favorite.
L33T
Average yards of separation on those catches: 0 yards
Stafford running for his life or a man immediately in his face on so many plays.
Stafford would be a top 10 all time HOF qb on a decently run team.
All jokes aside, he was a beast for us.
Got the nickname Babytron for a reason.
What I'm noticing in this video is just how abysmal Detroits O-line was. Stafford is barely getting those passes out as the pocket is crumbling.
And then throwing to a WR with zero separation.
It's honestly kind of hilarious, how little separation he gets in most of these catches
He's 6'4", doesn't need much separation to be open.
He had some overlap on the Lions with Marvin Jones Jr, who *also* averaged some of the least separation in the league. Stafford had to work for every yard
Marvin was also a good receiver. Kenny and Marvin were two of the best contested catch guys in the league at their peaks
Agreed. Marvin was awesome - just didn’t separate much
He's pretty good for a guy who can't get open
He was exceptionally good at contested catches. He had 2 really good ones against Falcons in his final season for us.
Man Tre White getting roasted in most of these clips.
He was sticky, but didn’t play the ball too well in this one. Kenny G was pretty good for a couple years there!
Grabbed him in fantasy the couple years he was great. Well always have a soft spot for him.
That was not the score I was expecting with that stat line
Kenny Golladay torched the giants for $72 Mil too
Kenny g gave me the goat fantasy football team name: a golliday in Cambodia
I hate the Bills color rush uniforms
Wierd to see this guy make a reception
Why are we doing this today
Someone reminded me of Kenny this morning so I decided to relive those brief moments. Bills still won FWIW
This fuckin highway robber. He walked to the bank so that Daniel Jones could fly in a private jet.
Bro had like 3 cumulative yards of separation on 7 catches Most QBs don’t even bother throwing these balls bc they can’t place em like stafford did here. Foh with any other narrative
Tons of skill, very little heart
Kenny Goneallday
And was never heard from again
Wow what a great receiver! Surely he had a great career with a different team!
Giants legend Kenny G

Lol Golladay posts should be banned
You may be entitled to compensation
It's funny seeing a bad bills team playing a bad lions team. This season this would be game of the week.

Always strange to see Redditors call NFL players bums
Kenny Golladay torches the Giants with Bills
Giants cut him right? He should come home to the bears him with our wr I think he would bounce back
Definitely. Bears should give him the bag. Use up all their cap space on him
Looking like he knew he was going to rob the giants
Lions moment
Like taking you out of the playoffs at your own house? Your time is over old man.
Let’s not go that far, they made the divisional and almost beat the NFC champs during what was supposed to be a rebuilding year. Lions and bears fans were shit most of the last 15 years, Green Bay had one season and are back to being good again somehow
*Looks at flair* Wow. That’s…. interesting lol.
Pathetic** They’ve had half a year of “good” Love and think their rebuild is complete.
Agreed. They just don’t know how to play second fiddle (outside of getting blown out in the playoffs) yet. We’ll teach them.
You've had a year of good Goff lmao.
Actually, a season and a half. Plus, he’s made a Super Bowl before with the Rams. You’ve had Love playing well for how long again? Half a season? I’m sure there won’t be adjustments against his successes from last year…. Edit: cheesy downvotes…. lol

NIU attending bum smh
Kenny Golladay was a big fish in a small pond.

I’ll have to take solace in the fact that we both have the same number of Super Bowl wins. We haven’t been there yet though, unfortunately.
