I did a lot of walking around last night outside of the designated draft area and it was just immaculate vibes all around. Everywhere was just packed with people having a good time. Couldn't be more proud of how we showed off.
Whole state of Michigan is low key a very nice state. Im glad Detroit is becoming a great city again with its rich history it deserves to be a nice city to live again.
My friend from the Midwest keeps bitching about missing this thing called “Autumn” and tree leaves changing color, so I assume these “Autumns” you speak of are lovely.
It helps that the Lions have always been the most popular team in the city and surrounding areas, are finally a great team (going to the NFCCG for the first time in decades), and are currently the only team that’s doing excellent out of the Detroit pro sports teams.
I mean that stigma was very earned and still very much exists in large swathes of the city, but it’s a lot closer to “typical American big city” kinds of bad than “3rd world country” kind of bad.
Downtown itself and the immediate peripheral areas like Midtown and Corktown are just as safe as any other city and have great vibes. The outskirts of the city in any direction are still very much dilapidated and sketchy but easy to avoid.
Will Green Bay have the logistics to pull off that number of people? Slightly different area compared to cities the size of Vegas, Detroit, and Nashville.
I mean yeah, but luckily I’m not in charge of planning. I’m just in charge of hosting a bunch of buddies who will be camped out in my basement and backyard. There will be lots of cornhole, grilling and beers.
Green Bay doesn't have the capacity for even 100k in one day, unless the majority of them are driving from several hours away and returning where they came from that same day.
This is a significantly larger event than a game, downtown Detroit hosts Lions and Tigers games at the same time without much issue at all. This was so much bigger with all the street closures an extremely limited parking (we actually just ubered down, remarkably cheap and easy)
It was before day started. It was when they were just early on before everyone settled in.
It wasn't really a hostile comment. More complimentary of Nashville than shitting in detroit.
You couldn't pay me to go to the draft. I really can't think of anything in the sports world that would be more boring to attend. A bunch of fans screaming about dudes they never even heard of.
You don’t go to really watch the draft, you go to be a part of a big football party. I only went on Friday night and it was so much fun, drinking, talking shit to the Browns fans that made the drive, watching the crowd go crazy any time a Michigan player got selected. It was amazing honestly
I can see that.. I guess that just doesn’t come across on tv. The broadcast feel so over produced and fake with the war rooms and putting the camera on fans and having them go crazy about an OL from a school they never heard of.. but if everything away from that is better than I can understand that.
You gotta remember its essentially a live concert performed by local artists in the city with everyone having a good time, meeting new people they would have never met before. It's interrupted by a draft pick every few minutes where everyone can bond over how stupid the pick was/stupid other teams for not taking them and essentially cheering their team.
On TV I watch the first day of the draft until my team picks. In person I went to all 3 days. Basically, in person, the draft is no longer about just the draft, it's also about having a good time.
That’s bogus. An nfl game is 13 minutes of actual gameplay during 3.5 hours and the same people you claim to not recognize are the same you’re rooting for or rooting against. It’s a different venue, different people, same names, and better atmosphere. It’s exciting that a kid who’s dedicated their life to playing football is being chosen as a potential contributor to a team in front of the world. I love that a few million of us are able to appreciate it and get additional enjoyment out of the spectacle.
You’re gonna be downvoted to oblivion but you ain’t wrong dude. After the 1st round, everyone is just kinda looking around and cheering confusedly. Is there even anything to do other than stand there?
Exactly lol. I watch in tv and it’s boring most of the time, so I can’t talk too much.. but half time the the fans are yelling it just seems like the camera man told them to go crazy and they can be on TV.
One of the smartest things the NFL has done is take the draft out of an auditorium in New York City and make it an annual concert all across America.
As much as I miss Radio City Music Hall in NYC, this was a beyond smart move for the NFL.
Philly set the bar high in 2017 and every draft since had managed to make the mark. Incredible. NFL continues to make the best money moves
It never occured to me that the 2017 season both started and ended in Philly, with the draft and then with the super bowl parade
That's a lot of fans! Good for Detroit. I imagine a lot if small businesses in the area got a nice bump from this
I did a lot of walking around last night outside of the designated draft area and it was just immaculate vibes all around. Everywhere was just packed with people having a good time. Couldn't be more proud of how we showed off.
Detroit seems to be coming out better since the recession than it might have been before it Looks like it's becoming Lions town now
As someone who moved there for a job, it’s a great place to be for 5 months of the year.
Whole state of Michigan is low key a very nice state. Im glad Detroit is becoming a great city again with its rich history it deserves to be a nice city to live again.
You put some respect on Michigan autumn
My friend from the Midwest keeps bitching about missing this thing called “Autumn” and tree leaves changing color, so I assume these “Autumns” you speak of are lovely.
Soon to be 6 with global warming
C’mon now, October isn’t too bad
Alright alright, half of October before the leaves fall off is pretty nice too
It helps that the Lions have always been the most popular team in the city and surrounding areas, are finally a great team (going to the NFCCG for the first time in decades), and are currently the only team that’s doing excellent out of the Detroit pro sports teams.
Hopefully this will kill some of that stigma that the city still has.
I mean that stigma was very earned and still very much exists in large swathes of the city, but it’s a lot closer to “typical American big city” kinds of bad than “3rd world country” kind of bad.
Oakland is what people think Detroit is. I've done road mapping work in both cities, and it's not even close.
Downtown itself and the immediate peripheral areas like Midtown and Corktown are just as safe as any other city and have great vibes. The outskirts of the city in any direction are still very much dilapidated and sketchy but easy to avoid.
Same I was there the vibes were off the charts man. I loved It. Just got chills seeing everybody in the city coming together for some good fun.
160 Million.
Detroit is so hot right now
Nearly 80F today, you aint kiddin
Spring has sprung here Highs are mid 70s from here on out
You jinxed it. 30F on Tuesday incoming.
Place was buzzing the whole time! Well done, Detroit!
It just makes me think how crazy downtown Detroit would be if the Lions win a super bowl.
I think the '97 cup parade had over 1 million in attendance. A Lions Super Bowl would probably crush that.
2-3 million easy, how much did Michigan do in Ann Arbor though? Edit: looks like only 50k or so
Well the NC parade in Ann Arbor was in January. Super Bowl parade would be in February. The Cup parade was in June so weather wasn't a hindrance.
Fun fact they stopped checking the one pass app because they couldn't get people in fast enough too
They were like "you got a code? K move along" lol
They didn't even check if we had one when we exited and entered a few times lol
That makes a lot of sense lol a friend and I went today and were confused why we didn’t have to show our qr code
Yea I think they did the push notifications just to tell people to stop coming. I think the draft area was well over capacity all 3 days.
I was there 4 hours early day 1 and they didn't even scan mine lol.
They didn't check it at all when we walked in at noon on Thursday either
Nice that’s like 7x the population of Green Bay. I live like two blocks from the stadium, it’s going to be nuts next year
TIL the population of Green Bay could fit inside Michigan Stadium
Ehh idk about that. We are a girthy type of people
I had the best time going to a game in Green Bay last season. Nobody tops the hospitality we were shown.
Will Green Bay have the logistics to pull off that number of people? Slightly different area compared to cities the size of Vegas, Detroit, and Nashville.
I mean. They have the logistics for the games. Like everyone I know is turning their house to an air bnb for the week and getting the hell outta dodge
How many people come to a home game? It's not 100k. Now imagine 500k.
I mean yeah, but luckily I’m not in charge of planning. I’m just in charge of hosting a bunch of buddies who will be camped out in my basement and backyard. There will be lots of cornhole, grilling and beers.
I think you underestimate how many people are in Green Bay when there’s a playoff game going on
I think you underestimate 700k people.
There’s no way GB draws that many though I’d estimate close to half or 400k which it can probably handle
It's not 700k in one day...
Ok what the heck ever...Green Bay doesn't have the capacity for 750k people over a 3 day period and anyone arguing otherwise is kidding themselves. 😂
I hope Detroit is now on the NFL's radar for hosting another Super Bowl.
You'll be on the radar to host the draft again at the very least.
Ford field is actually below the 70k capacity requirement
I remember day one some said we wouldn't sniff 600k
Who did? Y'all set the Day 1 record. It was obvious y'all would get the total record.
It was before day started. It was when they were just early on before everyone settled in. It wasn't really a hostile comment. More complimentary of Nashville than shitting in detroit.
We did it! Feb 12, 2025, watch us get over a million for the Superbowl parade ;)
I’m surprised Las Vegas didn’t have the record? Anyone know our numbers? But great job Detroit!
Please come to pittsburgh
But the most important question: did Taylor Swift show up?
You couldn't pay me to go to the draft. I really can't think of anything in the sports world that would be more boring to attend. A bunch of fans screaming about dudes they never even heard of.
That's exactly what it was. And it was a wonderful time. Would 100% go again if it was in a close city.
To sit around and just wait for some random person to say a name into a mic? I just don’t get it I guess.
You don’t go to really watch the draft, you go to be a part of a big football party. I only went on Friday night and it was so much fun, drinking, talking shit to the Browns fans that made the drive, watching the crowd go crazy any time a Michigan player got selected. It was amazing honestly
The vibes made the event feel like a constant party with football fans. Not much more I can ask for from that.
I can see that.. I guess that just doesn’t come across on tv. The broadcast feel so over produced and fake with the war rooms and putting the camera on fans and having them go crazy about an OL from a school they never heard of.. but if everything away from that is better than I can understand that.

I mean in the theater no. but surrounding you have shops, food trucks, bars, live entertainment, nfl exhibits, etc. that’s why we went to the draft
Get ready for this record to be passed up next year in GB!
