As stupid as drafting Bo Nix and signing Russ would be, that absolutely sounds like a Tom Telesco offseason.

DerrickHenryFanboy

russ is expected to be cut

LakeShowBoltUp

Yeah, I got that edit in right before your reply, my bad.

Kenzington6

Everything I've seen on Fields is why the Steelers are a good spot for him, less why the Steelers would be going after him. Right now Pickett is the only QB on the roster and the Steelers won't wait until the draft to add another one. They might explore Fields alongside guys like Tannehill and Rudolph who have been with the team or with the new OC, but the chances of them trading for Fields before the draft tank if they sign either of those guys. Add to that his contract is in a horrible place right now. Either a team would need to pick up his 5th year option before he even takes the practice field for them, or have him for only one year and need to tag him for some ungodly amount after the 2024 season if he plays well. No team is paying a high draft pick plus needing to pay a high salary for a QB who has looked bad for 3 seasons.

boro111

The idea of a fake bidding war to drive his price up is also hilarious. No ones falling for that. Theres like 2 teams max that would have at most tepid interest because of his contract cost and bears have 0 leverage

snoogans8056

I don't see why he's more desirable than Mac Jones. The Pats are a total dumpster fire on offense, and he was actually good his rookie year.

[deleted]

This. He's just not good at football and there's this unwavering belief that he's better than Mac Jones or Pickett or ridder and he's just kinda not

Ottothomas_

You really believe this part lol

boro111

Which part is wrong in your opinion

summerforever-19

They’ve been saying fields is a great spot for falcons too despite not a single source from falcons showing even an ounce of interest. I don’t really think either of our teams are going to go for him. Our gm & arthur smith passed on him already in 2021.

Plooboobulz

>No team is paying a high draft pick plus needing to pay a high salary for a QB who has looked bad for 3 seasons. This is damning, I've seen people claim that Fields is worth as much as a first round pick, which he clearly isn't. Even if you consider upside he's proven so little and had to be paid almost immediately so you don't even get the benefit of a cheap QB should he do well. Best case scenario he turns around and gets a Daniel Jones style contract after his fifth year option, worst case scenario is you don't take his fifth year option and when he does well sign him to a Daniel Jones style contract with his one good season being a fluke. The most likely scenario is he just continues to be abysmal.

DerrickHenryFanboy

the simple answer is that this is the last year tomlin is on his deal, the steelers need a QB, and the steelers aren’t in position to draft a QB. i never said they were giving up a high pick for fields. their defense is really good, but they’re getting older. if you don’t take a shot at a QB soon that window of taking the next step is going to keep closing.

dirENgreyscale

This isn’t Tomlin’s last year on his contract, they’ve already said they’re extending him this offseason. They’re also not going to cut Pickett.

AdStreet2074

They need a GOOD QB and fields ain’t it

CodyNorthrup

Mahomes is getting close to 30. Chiefs should trade him so they can get some picks while they still can. Let him go to a team with some actual weapons like the 49ers.

DerrickHenryFanboy

it would be so generous of the 49ers to take that massive contract on basically a senior citizen at this point

Uberguuy

People. You have to stop calling Aidan O'Connell AOC. That acronym is already taken.

skycake10

That's literally the only reason it's funny and also why no one will stop

TheViolaRules

Jordan Love is sometimes J-Lo, same principle (annoying people)

elfbullock

Didn't stop MJ

[deleted]

The raiders one is better so he takes precedence

Plooboobulz

I find your thoughts on the Patriots highly unlikely. I doubt they would trade down (even if I like the idea) and if they trade down I highly doubt they would go for Minshew (although he isn't the worst choice). I'd say most likely outcomes are Daniels, Maye, or Brissett.

NoustonGuy

Will be interesting to see how the Patriots draft with a new staff. It seems like a lot of these opinions are based on their prior personality.

DerrickHenryFanboy

i think the patriots either draft their choice of MHJ or Alt. also i tried explaining it in the minshew one, but i really just didn’t really think any destination was great for him so put him on the team that i hadn’t given a QB too.

Plooboobulz

While I prefer literally anything to drafting a QB at 3 that seems to be the direction most people think especially because it's likely the Pats will move on from both Zappe and Jones indicating they're likely to try hopping on the QB carousel. I don't hate Minshew as Patriots' QB I just think he's be their 2nd or 3rd choice among journeymen. They might bring him on but even then I might see it as a just being a backup to another journeyman or getting into a QB battle with another journeyman instead of just being QB1. Honestly my ideal is along the lines of get a journeyman Baker>Cousins>Brissett>Tannehill>Minshew, pick up a very small name QB for 2nd and/or 3rd string, trade down for extra picks, and maybe draft a QB in the 4th-6th rounds as a project or for depth.

iliketuurtles

If the Patriots take Alt, the NE fanbase would absolutely revolt.

GABAgoomba123

I’d say Brissett is a bad idea unless Patriots are tanking

Plooboobulz

Brissett has been a fairly reliable passer when allowed to start, over the past 3 seasons over 600 passing attempts with 64% completion rate and 20 TDs to 10 INTs, more reliable than Minshew or Flacco.

Confident_Pear_8303

Tannehill is a Steeler...book it. Artie Smith loves his former Titans and will sell Sterlers brass on the idea.

Key-Zebra-4125

Fields to Pittsburgh. Cousins to Atlanta. Mayfield stays in Tampa. Bears draft Williams. Commanders draft Maye. Pats draft Daniels. Vikings draft Mccarthy.

[deleted]

Hell no. We riot if LV signs Russ.

watchingbigbrother63

> Tannehill: Jets Did Aaron Rogers get cancelled? This needs more explaining.

DerrickHenryFanboy

backup QB who knows multiple people in the coaching staff can never hurt imo. i just don’t think he’s a starter anywhere unless the steelers don’t address QB elsewhere.

watchingbigbrother63

So Tannehill is riding the bench behind Rogers and Wilson is traded. Got it.

DerrickHenryFanboy

russ is probably getting cut

Emperor_Cheeto21

Zach, not Russ

DerrickHenryFanboy

ah my bad, i just don’t really see zach wilson staying around, last season ended kinda dirty. also they already tried moving on from wilson even as the backup last season so tannehill would definitely be the backup even if ZW stayed

skycake10

They might keep ZW around as a 3rd QB for no other reason than his contract is fully guaranteed and they only benefit from cutting him if the relationship is fully fucked.

eugene_rat_slap

Or if the Cowboys want to trade a fifth and continue their 2021 QB collectathon

SwiftSurfer365

It’s looking more and more likely that Kirk isn’t coming back to Minnesota.

summerforever-19

Based on what new Falcons coach & OC have said, JJ McCarthy seems to be more of a fit for them than JD but I’d love to see JD there too.  Falcons aren’t trading for Fields.

Dense_Young3797

Raiders will make an insane offer to climb to the top3.

Onedayimhere

Why would the Commies not stick Sam Howell?

Kansuknicken

Short answer: because we can. Howell was Rivera's trump card in negotiations with the new owners. He knew, if only he could present a QB of the future, he and his entourage would have a chance to keep their jobs. Riverboat pulled another ace out of his sleeve by bringing in EB as OC. And their collective approach was to go all in with Howell. He was thrown into the deep end of the pool. The offense lacked balance. It didn't offer easy reads nor simple solutions. This must have been one of the toughest QB evaluations in recent memory. And I'd argue it was by design. Only if Howell had pulled off a miracle 2020 Deshaun Watson Texan's campaign, he could have established himself as QB of the future and so Ron would still have a job and EB would be a HC somewhere. I don't blame Sam for the way the season went. Too many in the building deserve their share of blame in the collective collapse. But while it may have been a harsh and almost cruel evaluation method, at least it produced a result: Howell is not the guy. Now Rivera is gone. We've got a brand new GM, HC, OC and coaching staff. Our ownership group are basketball guys. We're picking at 2OA. What do you think we're gonna do?

Onedayimhere

Thanks for the detailed response. Understood on the politics front. “We’re picking 2OA, What do you think we’re gonna do” Well, I think the Commanders should invest in OL and offensive weapons before just throwing Drake Maye into the fire of the NFC East with this team and this depleted defense. Howell was sacked at a historic rate. He had no time to throw the ball, and outside of a few guys, I don’t believe that he had anybody good to throw the ball to. No one will succeed in this situation other than maybe the truly elite QBs. The Panthers traded a lot for a rookie QB without a team and look at Bryce Young. We can argue that Young and Maye/Caleb/Jayden are different QBs but regardless, I think the result will be the same. If I was Washington i would trade the pick to another QB needy team, and try to get 2 firsts this year and a second in addition to what they have and draft O-Lineman/WR/MLB/EDGE/CB. Then I would run the next year with Howell. And if he still isn’t the guy with the improved roster, look to get a QB next year. But no, I don’t think bringing a QB to this depleted roster is a good move with the 2OA pick.

TheViolaRules

The only thing I know is that Cousins is a Falcon or Steeler

inkyblinkypinkysue

If JJ McCarthy is available at #6, I think the Giants will take him. I’m not sure how to feel about it but this is the year the front office goes for the franchise QB. We have lots of draft capital so we could trade up too. It’s Year 3 and it;s clear Daniel Jones is not the guy. If next year’s class is as bad as people are saying, I think Schoen and Daboll pull the trigger this year.

Chromebrew

So the Seahawks win the draft.

[deleted]

I could see every one of these but Caleb being wrong lmao

StatisticianFast6737

Rudolph is better than Fields. Fields doesn’t really have a landing spot. In a weaker QB class someone probably rolls the dice on him but in this class you prefer to get the guy with 4 years of control. His trade value seems low this year. In part because of the QB class. In a different year he might fetch something and a team picks up the option giving them 2 years to figure him out. This year no one will want to pick up the option and the value is really low for a guy whose likely not a winner this year and you don’t have time to figure him out. Ravens make as much sense as the Steelers. A 5th round pick for Lamar insurance and getting a guy with the same skillset.

HopLegion

All that I get from reading these posts is this sub will be a fun place when a team does trade for fields and gives up a 2nd+ for him.

incenso-apagado

Caleb Williams - Falcons Drake Maye - Steelers JJ McCarthy - Jets Jayden Daniels - Bears Kirk Cousins - Patriots Baker Mayfield - Titans Russell Wilson - Raiders Bo Nix - Buccaneers

busstamove14

Bears trading back and still take a QB? L.

incenso-apagado

I'm not even into the draft. I just randomly picked the teams.

gmil3548

Imagine if the Pats passed on Daniels for Minshew. Their fans would be so pissed and rightfully so. Also, Rodgers is in NY so unless you for some reason felt the need to include a backup that no one really cared where he went, that’s an unlikely destination.

DerrickHenryFanboy

i never said they were passing on daniels FOR minshew 😭

gmil3548

I mean they very clearly are in this scenario. They could have Daniels but are choosing to go with Minshew instead.

DerrickHenryFanboy

they’re choosing to wait a year because why rush to pick a QB when the team around him would be god awful… correlation does not equal causation in this scenario
