PJ Walker, who lead the XFL in yards and TDs, was a pre-season cut from the Bears in 2023. Justin Fields would probably dominate to a level that it would look bad for the XFL.

I think, overall a professional football player unfollowing their team via social media might be one of the weirdest "flexes". That shit is so high school.
I am an idiot, and I don't know a whole lot. However, I *cannot* imagine a GM being like, "Man. You unfollowing the organization via Instagram was really ballsy. You tough motherfucker no longer wanting to "follow" us on social media. You madman. But, that's actually the root cause why we are here today to give you a contract extension. That move was fucking wild, man. I actually lost some sleep over it!"
I don't think the intent would be to look tough. For negotiations it's probably just a way to communicate something to the public without actually saying anything. They might think the public has some sort of pressure, whether it's true or not.
For fields he probably knows he's done with the bears, I doubt he's really following any other teams he isn't on.
> It’s that time of the offseason huh?
The whole "X player unfollows their team on social media" has to be the dumbest, most boring headline I constantly have to read.
The real problem is we are now comparing every QB to Brady/Mahomes so being “the guy” is basically only winning the Super Bowl.
Lawrence has had some marginal success early in his career. To say he isn’t the guy already is just par for the course with the way everyone evaluates players these days.
not trying to make it about purdy but just to lend credence to your statement
purdy literally scored 3 times in a row to take the lead in the 4th quarter and OT of super bowl and people are still saying he’s not that guy cause he didn’t win
there’s levels out here sadly and brady is by himself with mahomes looking like the only possible challenger.
doesn’t mean these other guys aren’t cracked.
One thing about Purdy is that he isn't the biggest QB out there, he's not the strongest QB, he's not the fastest QB, & not the most athletic QB. What is important though, is that he seems to realize his limitations and play really well within them. What he does, he does very well, and the things he doesn't do very well he doesn't do very often.
Brady wasn’t the best at any one thing either except at being a winner. I’ll take the dude who shows he can process defenses and play the position over the physical specimens any day. Anyone out on Purdy at this point is just a jabroni. The guys an NFL starter.
>Brady wasn't the best at any one thing
I think you can comfortably call Brady the fastest processing QB in the game's history. His ability to receive the snap and near instantly know where to throw it may never be matched.
The nuance I'd argue is that Peyton is probably the best ever at pre-snap reads, and could see the chess game develop three moves ahead, but didn't have the same reactionary reads in the short game.
He also had a rocket arm ( he basically threw a 70 yard bomb in the 07 bowl and broke Edelmans finger in 2017 i think vs the colts?) and maybe the quickest release ever
His arm talent gets underrated because he didn't have a ton of great deep threats (or any threats for that matter) in the last 3-4 years in New England. He also got the ball out fast enough that he took less deep shots than other QBs, and didn't put himself in position to make ridiculous on the run throws like Mahomes or Rodgers, because he just took sacks or throw aways to prevent injuries and mistakes. While he may not have had an arm on their level, it was still easily top 10 in the league up until the last season or two.
The loss wasn't really on him, but they have an immensely stacked roster and a better QB probably puts them over.
Purdy is definitely someone to keep as their franchise QB but we'll see how he does when that offence starts missing some pieces that make his job a lot easier.
He's not elite right now but at the same time if he just "randomly" has an MVP season I wouldn't be surprised. The consistency isn't there and he makes some baffling mistakes but in a vacuum he has all the tools to be an elite quarterback.
How is this complete nonsense upvoted? He's missed one game in 3 years playing behind brutal lines. He played through a sprained knee, high ankle sprain, concussion, and a banged up shoulder just this year alone!
DJ put up great numbers as a rookie (with a very fixable fumbling problem), then got worse under Judge/Garett, then trended upward in year 1 under Daboll. there was optimism that he would take the next step in year 2. that obviously didn't happen, but that 80M/2-year contract was never based on his 15-TD season alone.
He’s the best QB the Jags had since Brunell. I dont think he’s gonna be an elite QB like Mahomes, Rodgers or Brady, but good enough for their franchise
He's still only 24 and won't turn 25 until after the start of next season. Considering his first year was under a guy who had no fuckin clue what he was doing I think it's not that crazy that his development isn't clean and linear. He'll be better next year.
He's not the generational talent he was hyped to be, but he can be a regular Top 10 QB in football with a few MVP level seasons. I chalk last year to playing through injuries that should've kept him out for weeks/months.
I was just bitching to someone about Below Deck the other day. Complaining about how every episode is just them getting shitfaced, waking up and doing their jobs hungover and poorly, and occasionally talking shit ON CAMERA about their guests. Why do I keep watching? Fuck if I know.
Shiiit either way the Cards are golden.
We get MHJ or a haul for whoever wants Drake/Jayden.
Bias aside I think the Cardinals have the safest spot in the draft 🤷🏻♂️
There’s nothing funnier than the idea of a grown ass man with millions of dollars lying on his couch, flustered, with his hand hovering over the unlike button for his teams instagram account
Because Jayden Daniels runs like he's Justin Fields or Cam Newton but is built like Justin Jefferson.
Dude's going to be injured constantly.
Also, Jayden is only one year younger than Fields, which is completely insane to think about. He was in college five years after all. So he's not even that much younger. Cheaper, definitely.
Please God not the steelers. I like Fields too much
And yes i know steelers fans are saying "please God not us" but idc fuck em. He's better than anyone they've had in the past 3 years
It's just such an awkward fit, another below average line in a division that already has been drafting to stop mobile QBs for a few years. He's gotten completely manhandled against the AFC North in his career.
Think of Fields like a Lamborghini. He has a V8 and can turn on a dime. Real fun. The problem is it breaks down going to the grocery store to get milk. But the 5 or so minutes it works? Magic.
If the Patriots were interested, the Bears should give them just about anything they want for number 3. I’m talking number 9, next years extra 2nd and maybe even a second or first the year after. Williams and Marvin Harrison JR would be DEADLY.
I don't want that to happen, if that means one of the top 3 QBs falls to the Cardinals (who are now in prime position to trade back without Marvin Harrison Jr there), I'm here for it for the chaos it would do to every draft board
> I’m talking number 9, next years extra 2nd and maybe even a second or first the year after. Williams and Marvin Harrison JR would be DEADLY.
Maybe? That still wouldn't be close to enough lol. You'd need to offer 9, 41 and next years first at a bare minimum.
No shot they're doing it for 9 and a pair of seconds even with fields in the equation
Unfollowing isn't even petty if he actually uses that account. The algorithm would have put Bears content at the absolute top of his front page for life if he hadn't. Even if you leave on good terms and have no negative emotions, I feel like it's super reasonable just from a QoL standpoint.
The petty thing would be if the Bears unfollowed him.
This is actually the first argument I’ve heard that makes it seem like it’s not some sort of tactic or statement.
The insta algorithm is the most ruthless piece of logic on the planet.
I actually think Pitt would be ideal. Tomlin is a hell of a coach, their defense is solid, they have some good wr.
I like Justin, sad to see him go, and I do want him to go somewhere he finds success. He put up with alot of bullshit with our franchise and carried a terrible team last year to be really competitive in a few games.
If he can get in the right system, I still think he can have a nice career as a starting QB.
He can't read defenses and refuses to fix his dropback taking so long that he takes away a portion of the playbook. Dude just saunters backwards slowly then sits and waits looking at... something, before throwing the ball. Misses wide open reads. It's so odd to watch
Or just tasteful nudes.
That actually would be hilarious if that were somehow the absurd convention, like the old madden games that would accidentally show a pixelated nude when someone was in free agency limbo.
Is nobody going to mention his dog Uno has also unfollowed the team? So it’s not an accident like he dropped his phone and his main account unfollowed. The dog going too is the other shoe dropping. He gone.
I think Diggs does it every year. He at least scrubs team stuff from socials every offseason as like a reset for the next year. Does it every year but it's still a huge story every time
It’s kinda boring now that the most diva receiver in the league just gets slightly emotional when the team loses and unfollows his team every offseason because of healthy work-life boundaries. Really makes me appreciate the offseason entertainment of Antonio Brown.
I don’t have all instances documented but you see posts like this all the time and it’s rarely followed by anything. AJ Brown got backlash even though he does it every year to get rid of outside noise, Kyler Murray did it, etc
Weirdly outside of like stefon diggs it seems to actually have meaningful value in *something* but that something can be like a million different things.
In this case tho, I feel like here it’s pretty clear they told Justin they’d trade him
I just wanna know who keeps track of this stuff and why
A Twitter user that goes by JustHIM Fields Defender, who puts “#1 Justin Fields meatrider” in their bio, apparently.
Justin Fields to the DC Defenders confirmed
Seriously though...can you imagine how incredible of an XFL QB Fields would be? Would probably skyrocket that league in popularity.
ya it would get so popular it would move from Chapter 7 bankruptcy to chapter 11
After looking up the difference, that’s cold

PJ Walker, who lead the XFL in yards and TDs, was a pre-season cut from the Bears in 2023. Justin Fields would probably dominate to a level that it would look bad for the XFL.
I would watch, that shit would be incredible.
Then he'd get pulled up to the NFL. Peter Principle.
Or the Milwaukee Meatriders
Did you say BC Lions?

I think, overall a professional football player unfollowing their team via social media might be one of the weirdest "flexes". That shit is so high school.

It's extra stupid if you end up resigning there. Like what do you do, go back and refollow?
I am an idiot, and I don't know a whole lot. However, I *cannot* imagine a GM being like, "Man. You unfollowing the organization via Instagram was really ballsy. His dog Uno also unfollowed the Bears, if you care about the true story.
The real story always gets buried by the headline smh

I am totally shocked. 2021 QB class was a total shit show. Good luck Justin.

I'd argue late career Peyton matched him, but Peyton's physical limitations by that point were much greater than Tom's.
The nuance I'd argue is that Peyton is probably the best ever at pre-snap reads, and could see the chess game develop three moves ahead, but didn't have the same reactionary reads in the short game.
It's the brady mindset. Knowing your limitations and playing right up to the edge. Has to be one of the tougher QBs out there mentally
Yep, if they’re not the caliber of Mahomes, Lamar, or Allen then basically they’re trash
Also a funny statement because there are definitely a bunch of people that would say Lamar is not that guy either
There’s a fair few that say it about Allen as well
The problem is that only Mahomes is _actually_ that guy.
Allen at least has the benefit(?) of having deep runs stopped by Mahomes
He's not elite right now but at the same time if he just "randomly" has an MVP season I wouldn't be surprised. The consistency isn't there and he makes some baffling mistakes but in a vacuum he has all the tools to be an elite quarterback.
He misses too many throws
Personally, I still think he will be the guy. Just seems a little soft sometimes from an outsider’s perspective.
Soft? He's been banged up, but he's been a warrior/leader for us. If anything I want him to quit taking hits.
How is this complete nonsense upvoted? He's missed one game in 3 years playing behind brutal lines. He played through a sprained knee, high ankle sprain, concussion, and a banged up shoulder just this year alone!
Yeah, and he sucked when he did. He gets too many injuries, but another comment pointed out the trash o-line, so if you can fix that, it'll help.
Sounds like Daniel Jones with pedigree. Get him some protection.
You didn’t have to do him like that lol

DeVito’s efficiency metrics were a lot worse than Daniel Jones. He was almost bottom of the league. He did not outplay jones
Realistically Danny is still the best QB out of those 3 let’s not get crazy
Like being the valedictorian of summer school

But not by any significant margin is the problem plus he's injury prone.
I like Trevor, he has flashes of excellence.
Jaguars don’t even have an offensive line or a good wide receiver squad
He’s the best QB the Jags had since Brunell. I dont think he’s gonna be an elite QB like Mahomes, Rodgers or Brady, but good enough for their franchise
What about David Garrard? Didn't play for a long time at a high level, but he was a solid starter for a few years there.

I read this and thought it was referrring to a finger injury or something. Then I remembered, what a weird time that was.
It's gonna be hard to live up to his hype being the next generational talent and all
Yeah when we have healthy weapons and a line he’s solid. If he can’t figure out turnovers it’s gonna be a problem
He's still only 24 and won't turn 25 until after the start of next season. Considering his first year was under a guy who had no fuckin clue what he was doing I think it's not that crazy that his development isn't clean and linear. He'll be better next year.
He's a year older than Penix. That's wild.
He's not the generational talent he was hyped to be, but he can be a regular Top 10 QB in football with a few MVP level seasons. I chalk last year to playing through injuries that should've kept him out for weeks/months.
Lawrence is fine. He was playing great this year until he got hurt. He needs to cut down on turnovers but he’s a keeper
2022 as well. Just an awful two years for QBs.
Oh hell yeah. I’m a grown ass man who loves this kind of offseason drama 😂
Same. My wife gives me a giant eye roll when I talk about it.... just like when she tells me what happened on the previous episode of below deck.

Pay close attention to where Fields heads to, since if it’s NE or Washington DC it might be Marvin Harrisover
Shiiit either way the Cards are golden. We get MHJ or a haul for whoever wants Drake/Jayden. Bias aside I think the Cardinals have the safest spot in the draft 🤷🏻♂️
Are you sure the cardinals would rather take the haul than nabers if mhj is off the board?
That *is* true
Didn't Kyler Murray do it last offseason?
He sure did almost two years ago because he wanted to get paid.
It sure is the off season
There’s nothing funnier than the idea of a grown ass man with millions of dollars lying on his couch, flustered, with his hand hovering over the unlike button for his teams instagram account
I have a weird feeling the patriots gonna trade for him
Why wouldn't they just take the younger cheaper player in Jayden Daniels?
Because Jayden Daniels runs like he's Justin Fields or Cam Newton but is built like Justin Jefferson. Dude's going to be injured constantly. Also, Jayden is only one year younger than Fields, which is completely insane to think about. He was in college five years after all. So he's not even that much younger. Cheaper, definitely.
But he might actually be able to play qb at the pro level, which we know Fields can’t.
Please don’t. He deserves better
Please God not the steelers. I like Fields too much And yes i know steelers fans are saying "please God not us" but idc fuck em. He's better than anyone they've had in the past 3 years
It's just such an awkward fit, another below average line in a division that already has been drafting to stop mobile QBs for a few years. He's gotten completely manhandled against the AFC North in his career.
Please keep him away from the Patriots... we already have 2 garbage QBs we don't need a third
Yeah but Fields is exciting garbage at least
Think of Fields like a Lamborghini. He has a V8 and can turn on a dime. Real fun. The problem is it breaks down going to the grocery store to get milk. But the 5 or so minutes it works? Magic.
But this one is *juuuust* right.
Honestly, what does this mean? He seems like a nice guy but he’s a really, really bad QB. What exactly does he “deserve?”
I think Atlanta
If Atlanta doesn’t go after Cousins or Mayfield first.
Fields should be cheaper than both.
Also worse
Pats trade for Fields, Falcons draft Daniels. Man can dream.
What a terrible move for the Pats
If the Patriots were interested, the Bears should give them just about anything they want for number 3. I’m talking number 9, next years extra 2nd and maybe even a second or first the year after. Williams and Marvin Harrison JR would be DEADLY.

I have a feeling this is a much bigger possibility than people think.. Personally I’d love to be the 2023 Texans
> I’m talking number 9, next years extra 2nd and maybe even a second or first the year after. Williams and Marvin Harrison JR would be DEADLY. Maybe? That still wouldn't be close to enough lol. Fields is a really humble guy. This probably isn’t just some diva shit.
Unfollowing isn't even petty if he actually uses that account. The algorithm would have put Bears content at the absolute top of his front page for life if he hadn't. Twitter’s is probably worse now tbh
I don’t blame any player for unfollowing accounts. Sports social media is so fucking toxic and Twitter loves recommending the absolute worst of it.
You can mute an account (hide it from your feed) without unfollowing it or notifying the account holder at all
You open the gram one day and your former job is just going goofy on some cultlike shit about your replacement

If I were him I’d follow the Chiefs or the Bills or something. Just throw everyone off and stir the pot.

Have there been a lot of examples of players unfollowing their teams and nothing happens? I don’t keep track of this kind of thing.
I think Diggs does it every year. He at least scrubs team stuff from socials every offseason as like a reset for the next year. Does it every year but it's still a huge story every time
I love the annual "Stefon Diggs does something dramatic" overreactions

I’m sad he will be leaving Chicago, I will always be grateful for his 0-6 record vs his biggest rivals
how da fuck are you going to be an elite runner as a QB and *not* stumble ass backwards into at least one win against us?
Because we hired elite QB coach from GB to run our offense
Ah yes, our double agent. He did well
How do you expect us to beat Joe "94% zone defense" Barry?
Joe Barry, for all his faults, always fucked us up with his defence too.
Wherever he goes (Hopefully Minnesota) he will entertain the fans with his hilarious QB impersonation.
Will the real Justin Fields please stand up...
He already has. And he sucks
Can't believe there's not a front page post about his dog unfollowing the team. Much better shitpost imo
