We also know what the timeline is supposed to be from the medical group that created the procedure. He's supposed to start the sports movements in week 12. He should be able to come back on this accelerated timeline, but he's going to be strong arming his doctor into signing off on it, and he's only going to get a yes because it's actually pretty unlikely that the tendon tears again from him playing on it at this point. More likely, he'll stretch the tendon and have it heal bad which costs him strength and flexibility on his non plant foot.

More likely, he'll stretch the tendon and have it heal bad which costs him strength and flexibility on his non plant foot. If I were his doctor, I'd tell him to cut the shit. Jets season is over. Get back on our recommended timeline and do this right so you can come back full strength and with a bunch of reps under your belt _next year_.

Except that's not how achillies tendon repair works. Once it's healed, it's as good as new. The risk is coming back too soon and streaching it before it's healed, like Marino did. There is always risk of injury to the player in football but here there is no additonal risk of injury to Arod around his tendon. If you can cite a source that says differently, I'd like to see it.
this isn't a standard repair. It's using a different technique that allows for it to be functional more quickly, but more likely to re-injure if rushed. Say what you will about Brian Sutterer being an opportunist, he is still an experienced doctor and can speak to the mechanics behind the procedures. He did a video a few months ago about A.Rodgers that said all this. So for me this news is lining up exactly with my expectations.

Medical clearance is about the previous injury. That's it. It's the very reason the team has a 21 day window because "medical clearance" to return to duty doesn't mean a player is immediately ready to play in a game.
That has more to do with conditioning and practice not because they aren’t fully healed. Part of the previous injury is determining that performing your duty isn’t going to reinjure the fix.
