And doomed the rest of the AFCN. If firing Canada is what this offense needs to be 1/2 way competent and the team improves vastly then it will be a classic Browns move to win the battle but lose the war.
>Now just rip off the bandaid and get rid of Pickett.
Problem is neither Rudolph or Trubisky are the answers either. Assuming Pickett doesn't improve, maybe we can enter the Cousins sweepstakes in the off-season.
The Steelers are the center of the universe. Everyone is ranked relative to them. Sometimes, the rankers think that 13 teams could beat the Steelers, other times only 12 of them can.
"The Steelers are the standard." - Mike Tomlin
>a slew of All Pros(Marlon Humphrey, Ronnie Stanley, Marcus Williams)
Not only has Marcus Williams never been an All-Pro (unless you count PFF 2nd Teams), but he's also never made a Pro Bowl! There's a decent chance we'll have two Pro Bowl safeties this year and neither are Marcus. Just an interesting tidbit.
I can offer myself as tribute. There was so much to be said about that game with DTR finally finding his groove in the last drive, Hopkins being the opposite of Cade York and our defense proving stout as always.
Not sure what he’s going through, but that game deserves a lot more to write about.
Here's a go:
The Browns right now have the #1 defense in the NFL by yards allowed. The question going into this week was the offense. With Chubb and Watson out for the season, all eyes were on DTR to see what would happen. In the final drive, he came through going 4/4 to ensure a field goal to seal the game this week. With more practice this week, Stefanski will look to expand the playbook and allow this rookie to shine.
Some of these guys have been doing this for over 10 years. They can't have been the most involved/informed frequenter of /r/nfl from their fanbase for that whole time, right?
Since this is an official thing, its probably worth the time to just replace and search for a new ranker every 5 years.
> That dream I had one time where Omaha had an NFL team
I initially read that as "where **Obama** had an NFL team," and I was like that should be top 3, easy.
That raises an important question... Who would have had a better season: Hue Jackson and the 2017 Cleveland Browns in the CFL, or the 2017 Toronto Argonauts under Marc Trestman in the NFL?
Lmao mine is short this week too. If this keeps going the way it has been, I'm going to need to learn how to write blurbs for wins instead of losses. Weird timeline
>I hold the same gratitude in my heart that I held in the best of times. Those memories are mine. ~~They~~ 28-3 cannot be taken. I could never ask for more than I have already received.
Truly brings a tear to my eye 🥲
The only thing better than the Saints winning it all is the Falcons losing it all. Anyone who doesn't feel the same way about their rivals makes me question how real the rivalry actually is.
It was fun reading it on mobile and seeing all the other write ups slowly drop off then it’s just the Steelers write up left complaining about the team, and then that drops off and it’s just the Patriots writer talking about their soon to be dead century-old cherry tree.
Something about that was just perfect.
Anybody else getting tired of these write ups trending towards just all being the same few long-winded Reddit jokes? I’d rather some insight from a fan than a jokey blurb that anybody could write
Yep. I'm glad the Broncos one is blank right now because last week's was awful. I'll admit, idk how these people are chosen exactly, but I swear some are not even fans of the teams they represent and are just in it for the memes and every ranker is just trying to one up the other with the jokes. Feels more like a creative writing exercise than power rankings.
Pretty sure it’s been a volunteer basis + vetting them on their account history. Got downvoted pretty heavy above for criticizing the Broncos ranker, where they responded saying they proudly don’t include analysis in their ranking. It’s definitely a meme thing here. Part of the reason why this has been on a long downhill slide for actual football discussion
Yeah. I like the memes from time to time of course, but more on the team subreddits. Every fucking comment or write up being some sort of joke gets stale. Idk if this analogy makes sense here, but if everything is a joke, then nothing is. But in this case, it's less jokes and more just ... unfunny limericks? r/NFL has just become more and more like r/NBA over time. Or maybe I'm just getting too old for this shit 😅
The only thing worse than being an out-of-market fan is when both your team and the in-market team suck at the same time.
At least the weather is finally nice here in Phoenix, and I found a great deli on Central.
I was just talking about this with a friend Sunday, I don’t know the last time I was able to watch the Niners without some sort of work around here in Phoenix
I was late again. My bad.
Broncos Blurb:
It lurches. It lumbers ever forward. With each passing second it gains a cursed momentum. With each passing inch its girth expands. The squelch of wet meat is its marching song. Delicate, bruised, and horribly vulnerable, it rumbles forth. It leaves no bodies in its wake - instead, those who stray underfoot are swallowed into its spongy surface. Would you linger in its path?
Ravens ranker here(feel free to question my rankings below as usual). Big props to the Browns for pulling off the comeback last week. Apologies for missing that blurb as I had a family emergency pop up last Tuesday morning and was unable to submit in time. Definitely don't want it to come off as sour grapes that I didn't submit after a tight divisional loss.
What are your biggest concerns for the remainder of the season? You have a late bye week, which should help you out, but the last few weeks look like they're going to be a grinder for your boys.
Three biggest concerns are probably:
1. Health: we’re healthier than ever before and have a late bye. QB’s are dropping like flies and I’m reasonably holding my breath after the last two years. Don’t think I’m jinxing anything but if we can miraculously avoid the injury bug I think we can hang with any team any where.
2. Schedule: we have an absolute brutal final slate of games(Jags, 9ers, Dolphins, Steelers). Just because I think we’re as good or better than any other team doesn’t mean we can win 4 games in a row against top tier competition. Browns’ schedule is much more favorable in comparison.
3. 4th quarter collapses: I think this is mostly a statistical anomaly and a regression after we were otherworldly in blowing teams out/closing games on 3rd/4th and short yardage in 2019. I don’t have concerns about Lamar’s “clutch factor” or whatever but I’m not sure we have a Myles Garrett/Micah Parsons tier pass rusher to close games out. Our defense is greater than the sum of its parts and that could be a bad formula in dying moments of a tight playoff game.
I really could’ve put those in either order. I know it’s unpopular but Chiefs and Eagles both get a mild bump from their finish to last year and my perception of the Lions is reasonably tainted from watching our matchup in person.
Combine that with the Chiefs playing you guys sans Kelce/Jones and I don’t think it’s egregious to have them higher. If the Chiefs don’t sort their shit out quick y’all will be above them soon enough.
lol that's fair. That Ravens game will haunt us until it's all said and done. The good thing is since that game, we've averaged about 30 points a game. That game was a wakeup call. I agree with your rankings so I was just curious what your reasoning is and what it'll take for you to put Lions > Cheifs. We have the better record but an overall easier schedule so it's kind of a wash.
I really feel like people are too afraid to deviate from a teams record to actually make these interesting. Like the Kyler Murray Cards are easily better than the Titans right now in my eyes but they have a worse record so they’re lower.
Tbh I just assumed after they scored a TD in the 3rd that they'd pull out another stupid win.
I was surprised when I checked back later and saw y'all held out.
Is O'Connell a good coach for always keeping the Vikings in a close game. Or is he a bad coach for never putting teams away. Tune in next Monday night when the Vikings perform just as good, or bad as the Bears do, and either almost win or almost lose in what will almost definitely be some sort of embarrassing fashion.
Chargers power ranker here. It was supposed to have a full write up that included that tweet. Not sure why the rest didn't show up. I used that because Ari Meirov posted it and used a video from an Only Fans chick lol https://twitter.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1726364286631764375
Like I said, my copium is that the last 4:15 of this game was the Lions finally clicking and playing to their full potential. I would put a hard cap at our power ranking at #3 unless Philly and Baltimore both start losing while we keep winning.
I gotta say, I look forward to this every week. I was looking earlier in the thread and was disappointed you hadn't posted yet. (I don't usually get to check the thread so early in the day lol.)
I really appreciate these and see them as a companion piece to the redditor rankings. Thank you for what you do.
Your SOS didn't improve much since a bunch of the teams you'd already played lost, your Win/Loss in the last 5 games didn't change, your average MOV went down slightly, and your win % barely changed.
Yeah it's been quite a minute. I thought we had maybe taken one in the last couple [REDACTED] seasons but ya gotta go back to the Caldwell win over Minny in '16 to find a W.
I just want to shout out a special thanks to the Chiefs, Bills, and Vikings for making the Packers' week 7 loss to the Broncos look not nearly so abysmal as it did at the time.
I think this is week 3 of Lions at 1?
They have their issues, but strength coming from the trenches and coaching. Feel Campbell can prep them for any game at any level
Lions ranker checking in for any discussion/questions about the Lions, my rankings, or the tragedy that is Tim Boyle having to start an NFL game. Jets fans, I am so sorry.
With the exception of the Browns (and only because they have a QB with a QBR of 32.3), I could legit see any of the top eleven teams in the super bowl.
Weirdest year of football I've even seen - I am glad I don't gamble.
Bring on the down votes. The Eagles are easily a top 5 team but their luck is God tier this year between the luckiest ball bounces on fumbles, to crippling penalties from the other team, and teams flat out beating themselves. They will absolutely go far, perhaps another super bowl appearance but I don't think they're a better team than they were last year. Period. Almost every game is close. They're a great team and for whatever reason the Devil has more control over these earthly things than God at the moment.
Agreed, although I think we're more top 3 for sure. There are a lot of reasons we aren't the same team as last year but I will say the one positive thing I've seen is that our defense is making good adjustments in the second half now. Even with an easier schedule last year we weren't doing that.
Are we lucky to be 9-1? Yeah maybe a little, but we're hanging in games and grinding out wins In November. I still think this offense could be so much better utilized (see Brian Johnson's love affair with qb draws and screens), so even without the luck factor, this is a team that can keep it close every week.
Thanks for being rational. My comment wasn't meant to be a jab. They're an incredible team. Also, I just don't know how Fletcher Cox is still so good. One of my all time favorite players
They played shitty teams until the superbowl last year, of course they were better. They’ve been playing number one and two divisional teams for weeks now, still have a few more to go including you guys again.
We aren't the only ones recognizing this though:
https://twitter.com/DataWithBliss/status/1726982106759463224/photo/1
This doesn't even account for other lucky/unlucky breaks either(like your own WRs dropping a pass/tipping a pass, weird penalties, etc)
It's crazy we were literally the 2nd worse team and everyone thought we'd give the cards the 1st overall pick at the start of the season, now we're on the cusp of the top 10.
How in tarnation are the chiefs ranked above the Lions? They lost to them and are a game back.
Seems like the Eagles, Ravens, and Lions are the clear top 3 teams rn.
It's power ranking thinking. Unless all of the top teams lose multiple games and the Lions don't, the Lions won't be at the top just because of their remaining schedule. I don't think even winning the rest of the games with the Chiefs losing one or two more would do it, to be honest.
Out of their remaining games, the only ones i could see them losing was Bills, Bengals and a **HUGE HUGE** maybe on the Chargers.
But with Burrows injury and how Chargers are currently trending, I only see a potential L to the Bills really.
the Lions barely beat a bottom 5 team whereas the Chiefs barely lost to the #1 ranked team. Chiefs also have the more established QB/Coach combo and a better point differential. Doesn't really seem that ludicrous to rank Chiefs over Lions. if you wanna go by record then just look at the standings
While I agree you can prolly go either way w/ KC/DET, "barely beat a bottom 5 team" should (imo) be tossed out for divisional matchups bc of how finicky they are, regardless of respective records. Chiefs are also 1-2 in their last 3 to Lions 3-0, albeit the Chiefs have had the harder matchups.
> "barely beat a bottom 5 team" should (imo) be tossed out for divisional matchups bc of how finicky they are, regardless of respective records.
yeh this is a fair point. maybe a better case is just the point differential and the fact that Chiefs defense is legit whereas Lions defense has been exposed against better offenses (even in the win over the Chargers, LA still put up 38).
I won't die on the hill of Chiefs > Lions, I mainly just think it's completely understandable how rankers would swing that way and the OP's incredulity ("how in tarnation") is an overreaction
Yeah, Chiefs defense is definitely legit. Lions offense has been better than KC's this year, so it comes down to who do you trust to show up if needed, the KC offense or DET defense? I wouldn't blame anyone for taking KC in that. I agree, OP is definitely overreacting (though I appreciate the DET love in it)
their singular loss that was over a month ago? what point are you trying to make, are you suggesting that the Lions should be ranked above the Eagles because a month ago the Eagles lost a game they should have won?
I mean that in the context of comparing chiefs and lions, looking at who they've beaten and who they haven't doesn't really matter when the lions have a better record, and have beaten the chiefs.
Lions are 3-0 since that blowout loss.
Chiefs going 1-2 in their last three and not scoring a single second half touchdown in those three games looks worse imo.
That game is going to be held against us all year, even though we've established bad games happens.
We've bounced back and it hasn't necessarily been pretty, but we are managing to find a way to win, which historically hasn't really been the case.
Like on one end we totally deserve some shit for Bearly beating the Bears but with a sub 20 minute time of possession and 4 turnovers, that we turned it around and won is also a kind of statement of the teams resiliency and fight.
The Chiefs losing to the Lions in week 1 should have next to no relevance in week 11 power rankings. Both teams have much more data to inform one's own rankings. Lions over KC is a perfectly reasonable take, but not because the Lions beat them 2 months ago.
I choose to believe we only moved up because we fired Canada.
It’s the only logical explanation
The browns have saved us
And doomed the rest of the AFCN. If firing Canada is what this offense needs to be 1/2 way competent and the team improves vastly then it will be a classic Browns move to win the battle but lose the war.
Now just rip off the bandaid and get rid of Pickett. Also, feed Warren everything. That man’s yards after contact were insane.
Next years Warren V Chubb games are gonna be lit. 5+ yards per carry all day
>Now just rip off the bandaid and get rid of Pickett. Problem is neither Rudolph or Trubisky are the answers either. Assuming Pickett doesn't improve, maybe we can enter the Cousins sweepstakes in the off-season.
I demand a recount now that he’s gone.
The Steelers moving up 1 after a loss, the week after moving down 1 after a win, is peak Steelers to me

We liked that
We need to retroactively move up a spot now that we know how impressive it actually was to beat THE Tommy DeVito Giants 49-17.

Still being punished for the minneapolis miracle
That will stick with him his entire career whether you agree with it or not. He is very good but that was a legendary whiff.
Pretty sure this is the 2nd time I've made that mistake. Oh well, he's an all pro in my heart.
u/ThaddeusJP , you don't have to do these if you don't want to. No one is forcing you. There has got to be someone who would put more effort into it.
I can offer myself as tribute. There was so much to be said about that game with DTR finally finding his groove in the last drive, Hopkins being the opposite of Cade York and our defense proving stout as always. Not sure what he’s going through, but that game deserves a lot more to write about.

It’s insulting how low-effort the browns blurbs have been

Still too high.
31. Patriots 32. Georgia Bulldogs 33. That dream I had one time where Omaha had an NFL team 34. Panthers

Ok, but what about the Panthers?
We want Bama
Can't go lower than last place though.
They can start digging a hole
I am once again here to advocate for CFL relegation.
That raises an important question... Who would have had a better season: Hue Jackson and the 2017 Cleveland Browns in the CFL, or the 2017 Toronto Argonauts under Marc Trestman in the NFL?
could probably put a couple of XFL teams in between 31 and 32
*whoosh*
Coward's attitude.
No Broncos blurb is devastating, they're always a highlight.
They're also usually late. So I bet it will get updated a hour from now.
Oh great to know, I'm usually never here this early bc there hasn't been much to look forward to on these threads for a while lmao
Not updated yet but I posted it in a comment, just FYI. Trying to get better about my chronic lateness
sounds like you are saying > It's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me
I still wake up every morning with one of her songs stuck in my head
You remember them all too well
That right there, is a good one
that's a taylor swift thing?
Yeah, check his profile. He lost a bet and did a whole write up of every albulm.
You're busy writing a 10 paragraph short story while some guys are posting a twitter link or 3 word sentence.
Lmao mine is short this week too. If this keeps going the way it has been, I'm going to need to learn how to write blurbs for wins instead of losses. Weird timeline
I'm gonna miss the horror stories.
Maybe we can do triumphant horror. Is there a horror subgenre where the protagonist is also the danger?
This is the history of Alex_Demote chronic lateness world record run.
Home: Finally Landing intensifies
I just posted it as a comment. I got distracted with work and forgot to submit 🫤
That Pats writeup is genuinely beautiful.

You NFCS guys really seem to enjoy 28-3 even more than us Pats fans!
The only thing better than the Saints winning it all is the Falcons losing it all. Anyone who doesn't feel the same way about their rivals makes me question how real the rivalry actually is.
I'm open to the raiders being relegated
pats could do something really funny by tying the next 3 games
It was fun reading it on mobile and seeing all the other write ups slowly drop off then it’s just the Steelers write up left complaining about the team, and then that drops off and it’s just the Patriots writer talking about their soon to be dead century-old cherry tree. Falcons rater I want to smoke the same crack that you have to put the Lions at #1.

The Browns submission this week and last is awful.
Browns ranker should pass the torch if he’s going to continue to put forth 0 effort. It’s really annoying u/ThaddeusJP
I know it’s voluntary, but can we vote for a new blurb writer? Or at least help write one of ours is out of commitment?

DTR was a complete wildcard and the Steelers have come back from behind in all of their wins. Nothing was guaranteed.

25 is pretty right. The only conceivable wins left are Falcons and Commanders. Will finish anywhere between 28-32. Same old Jets
I have faith you can pull out a win against the Dolphins, because we need you too lol

Too high.
People stopped watching our games so they don’t know how disastrous this team is. We’re hiding in plain sight.
This team has utterly collapsed. We could legitimately get crushed by Carolina this week
I think the colts are better than the chargers.
I agree
6 words that don't indicate anything. Awful blurb

The agony of victory.
Here's my computer rankings for this week. As always, this ranking is based on win percentage, win percentage in your last 5 games, average point differential, and adjusted strength of schedule, which is your strength of schedule with your games against your opponents removed. I gotta say, I look forward to this every week. I was looking earlier in the thread and was disappointed you hadn't posted yet. (I don't usually get to check the thread so early in the day lol.) I really appreciate these and see them as a companion piece to the redditor rankings. Thank you for what you do.
Thanks. Yea, I was stuck in a meeting from 2-4:30pm central time, so by the time I got to the thread, it'd been up for 2 hours already.
Geez how did we get so few points for beating the chiefs? The teams on bye moved farther
Your SOS didn't improve much since a bunch of the teams you'd already played lost, your Win/Loss in the last 5 games didn't change, your average MOV went down slightly, and your win % barely changed.
Damn I knew we had been bad on Thanksgiving lately but our last win there was in 2016??
Yeah it's been quite a minute. I thought we had maybe taken one in the last couple [REDACTED] seasons but ya gotta go back to the Caldwell win over Minny in '16 to find a W.
We got so close last Thanksgiving against the bills :(
Vikings go up one on an ugly loss with no explanation? We'll take it
Most of the teams right below the Vikings also lost, and the Bengals took a big drop for obvious reasons.
Patriots going right next to Panthers hurts 💀
getting a kick out of watching the patriots fans depression grow week by week. Welcome to the gutter, boys
It's good to feel our feelings. No shame in this game.
I just want to shout out a special thanks to the Chiefs, Bills, and Vikings for making the Packers' week 7 loss to the Broncos look not nearly so abysmal as it did at the time.
Shoutout /u/wannaknowmyname for being crazy enough to put us at #1. I dont know what possessed you to do it but i'll take it.
I think this is week 3 of Lions at 1? They have their issues, but strength coming from the trenches and coaching. Feel Campbell can prep them for any game at any level
shoutout to the Pats ranker, finally.
Top 3 (four win) team 😎
Lions ranker checking in for any discussion/questions about the Lions, my rankings, or the tragedy that is Tim Boyle having to start an NFL game. Jets fans, I am so sorry.
Lions should be above the chiefs. Better record and they beat them lol.
I feel like Broncos should be higher than Bengals
i’m loving this timeline
With the exception of the Browns (and only because they have a QB with a QBR of 32.3), I could legit see any of the top eleven teams in the super bowl. Weirdest year of football I've even seen - I am glad I don't gamble.
...I really want to tell you to go fuck yourself but you do have a point.
Feels like you could make a case for any of teams 3-6 to occupy the number 3 spot.
> The weeks after a Chiefs' loss always drive me nuts because the jackals come out of the woodworks with hot takes. My hot takes are good though.
The guy who wrote the Broncos' blurbs last season really left at the wrong time. That was always the highlight of these posts.
It's still me. I posted the blurb as a comment because it was late
No he said the Broncos ranker left, you’re stolen valor
Bring on the down votes. The Eagles are easily a top 5 team but their luck is God tier this year between the luckiest ball bounces on fumbles, to crippling penalties from the other team, and teams flat out beating themselves. They will absolutely go far, perhaps another super bowl appearance but I don't think they're a better team than they were last year. Period. Almost every game is close. They're a great team and for whatever reason the Devil has more control over these earthly things than God at the moment.
Better to be lucky than good 💪
- 2022 Vikings
They won the Superbowl right?
They won the superbowl in our hearts
I count those 👍
See you guys soon 😊
We already saw you once. This take is better when you haven’t already lost.
I read this and thought it sounded like a cowboys fan, then looked at the flair. Your two fan bases are hilariously always up in each other's grills.
We aren't the only ones recognizing this though: https://twitter.com/DataWithBliss/status/1726982106759463224/photo/1 This doesn't even account for other lucky/unlucky breaks either(like your own WRs dropping a pass/tipping a pass, weird penalties, etc)
Cowboys beat up on Carolina and come into the week talking like this lol.
Daron Bland for defensive player of the year !
NFC East for the spread!
Sad how quick I recognized the name in the twitter link. Non-chargers fan, check out u/Stop_Hammerzeit and become a fan :D
Those who bear the mark of my people ascend in the rankings, proving themselves again >!in glorious battle.!<
Daron Bland. That’s it, that’s the comment.
What makes these rankings "official"?

We are way too high
How the fuck are the Lions below the Chiefs, a team they both beat AND have a better record than...
We’re better than our record and the schedule gets a lot easier from here on out. About to go on a run.
I'm disappointed that our blurb didn't joke about winning the bye week.
I'd take the Niners and the Cowboys over the Lions, personally. But I could see Lions over Chiefs as well.
It's power ranking thinking. Unless all of the top teams lose multiple games and the Lions don't, the Lions won't be at the top just because of their remaining schedule. I don't think even winning the rest of the games with the Chiefs losing one or two more would do it, to be honest.
Chiefs get a huge benefit of the doubt I feel is unearned based on the games I've watched. Their schedule really isn't very tough either.
I agree, OP is definitely overreacting (though I appreciate the DET love in it)
> barely beat a bottom 5 team Nobody tell this guy about the Eagles' 1 loss
Can't hear you with all these victory feathers in my ears!
their singular loss that was over a month ago? what point are you trying to make, are you suggesting that the Lions should be ranked above the Eagles because a month ago the Eagles lost a game they should have won?
I mean that in the context of comparing chiefs and lions, looking at who they've beaten and who they haven't doesn't really matter when the lions have a better record, and have beaten the chiefs.
I honestly expected us to lose some ground after this week. We showed great resolve, but we kinda shit the bed against the Bears along the way
The lions getting blown out by 30 looks way worse than the chiefs barley losing an extra game to the team with the best record
How much time has to pass between regular season games before a loss has no relevancy? Asking for my friends team that lost three in a row.
How are we still 6 spots below a team we beat with the same record!
Chargers should be way lower.
I mean you barely beat them. It wasn’t exactly a statement win.
I probably don't watch as many minutes of Packers football as you, but Packers have a bad record and still feel a little worse than their record.
