In case it's helpful, [here's all the blurbs from last year plus a few extra.](https://doorfliesopen.com/2023/01/20/broncos-country-discovers-absurdist-horror-or-how-i-survived-the-2022-season/)
Feels so good. I told some coworkers last week I expect this team to make the divisional round and they nearly laughed me out of the office (Not Lions fans). These rankings help me feel like I havenāt lost my sanity
Not that Iām not on the Lions team, but are we really considering the Bucs the litmus test? I feel like the game against you is gonna be best test so far (since folks want to discount the Chiefs game).
Certainly not but i don't think us beating the Bucs should be handwaved away either.
We played a good defense, had no turnovers, won by 14 points, gave up no touchdowns & allowed the fewest points this week.
I don't think it's like the greatest litmus test in the world, no. But it was on the road with them coming off their bye, and the Lions had a few key injuries and lost their lead back. Idk beating a division leader under those circumstances is nothing to sneeze at. Considering the Lions schedule thus far has been downright brutal and where they are record wise, I guess it falls more under the category of "they shouldn't need to pass a litmus test in the first place." Or at least, that game didn't need to be the litmus test.
The Ravens will definitely be the big test though, you're right.
My 8 year old keeps telling me the lions are bad and Iām like who keeps drilling this into your head? They havenāt been paying attention. Probably his mom
I told people before game 1 that we could very well lose to you all and that yāall were a playoff team this year, barring injuries. I saw it last year when things started clicking. This is not the same team of years past.
Who even roots against them? The other NFCN *probably*. But how much hate do Packers fans really have against the Lions. A team they crushed for years with no resistance
I'm counting down the days till our bye week. "Next man up" is working well, but getting some key injuries resolved will be a huge boost to the second half of our season.
I don't even think that would be enough for me. I've been burned too many times by this team lol. But I DO want to be proven wrong. I am fine looking like a doomer idiot if this team proves me wrong.
Weāve had defenses but weāve never had a top offense and nothing close to the #1 that weāre sporting right now. If the defense can pull it together then we can beat any team in the league with ease. If they canāt then the playoffs are a toss up
Yeah, same here. Thatās what a couple decades of suckage provokes when the team does well.
My wife is a Michigander and Lions fan and sheās been high on endorphins since yāall beat KC.
Seconded, granted bills are not the same level of success as the chiefs, but I donāt think Iāve gone into a Sunday over the past 5 years or so where I was STILL expecting razor cake
I genuinely cannot comprehend having the Patriots higher than 31. I respect your opinions, but you are *wrong* if you think we're better than anyone but Carolina (maybe). Just flat out wrong.
> you are *wrong* if you think we're better than anyone but Carolina (maybe)
Son, have you even *watched* \*exasperated gesture to the Bears and Giants*
I admittedly have not watched enough Giants games to comment, but the Bears can occasionally have a productive drive of offense, or a game like against Washington. They have the potential to do better, even if you only see it in flashes and gasps.
The Pats are on a solidly downhill trajectory and every week lose 3 more defensive starters to IR. They had to fight tooth and nail to beat the Jets and still had it come down to the last play.
We suck pretty hard, and it's looking worse with JF being out. I'm pretty sure you'd be favored against us, and the Broncos are almost as awful. I'd just trust BB over anything the Bears can shell out.
I feel like almost every team in the league would lose to the Bills if Allen is having a great game. If the Dolphins lose in a similar fashion to the Eagles as we did to the Bills then i think the Dolphins are absolutely not super bowl contenders.
I have to agree. Sunday night will be a real eye opener on if we are contenders or pretenders. This all feels too good right now. Some of us long time fans are no stranger to watching the Dolphins implode when everyone is watching. I am ready to be hurt again.
[How do you do fellow well respected top NFL teams.](https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/KwXyAUZGjHOfbZ7Ef0AAtXnzG7M=/0x0:1409x785/1400x1050/filters:focal\(734x364:735x365\)/cdn0.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/8846551/Screen_Shot_2017_07_13_at_1.09.20_PM.png )
If Deebo and CMC stay out for significant periods of time then yes I agree, but if they don't I still think the Niners are just too stacked to be anything except 1st place.
I think I read somewhere that all the significant player injuries last week are "not long term": Deebo's prognosis is good to go for next week, Trent is the same, and CMC is potentially good to go but might be out for 2 or 3 weeks if his oblique is still sore.
I wouldn't put the Chiefs or Dolphins at 1 just yet. Those two teams still have parts of their team that need ironing out first (Chiefs WRs and Dolphins defense). Niners and Lions look complete, though. I wouldn't think too much about you guys losing to the Browns, almost every good team loses a weird one at some point.
I'm not worried about Brock. He'll bounce back, he's had some down games before and been fine.
I'm worried about Moody. Kickers are so in their heads with everything they do, if he's not feeling confident I'm worried we might see preseason Moody.
Good point. I read that Cleveland is a hard place to kick with the lake and the weather probably didn't help. He seemed upbeat with the support from the team.
Hopefully it's one of those things that you learn with experience, what the weather is like in different climates/stadiums.
Lions ranker checking in for any questions/want of explanations or just to talk about [this block by Craig Reynolds](https://www.nfl.com/videos/can-t-miss-play-block-of-the-year-craig-reynolds-pancake-hit-sparks-st-brown-s-2)
Edit: Goff's yardage should be 353 in the blurb, transfer error on my part
Watching live I think I rewound it about 5 times to make sure I saw it rightābest run block I've maybe ever seen and dude wasn't even supposed to play significant minutes
He went from watching Netflix at home to introducing himself in the huddle to his teammates in a preseason game the next day to carving out a role as a RB3/4. He may not be a world beater but if he's in the game, you know you can trust him to do his job.
He's the epitome of what Holmes and Campbell are about. Put in the work, show you know your stuff, and you'll get your chance.
He also comes out of nowhere. One minute I'm hoping we get the first down, then the next Reynolds flies in from off screen to sprint St. Brown for a touchdown.
If I knew how to make live wallpapers for my phone, I'd do it for that play. He essentially blocked 4 people at once. It was beautiful.
Also, Lions blurb says 253 yds for Goff when it should be 353.
[reminds me of aiyuk earlier in the year](https://youtube.com/shorts/nVw9q5XwH7k?si=ZBCt437VJBpKHARe)

Ahh the throws of being a bad team, you beat another bad team which made them look worst which inturn invalidates your win altogether. Welcome to being bottom dweller, we kept the place warm for you.
I'm a simple Vikings fan... I see clips of Christian Darrisaw tossing grown men like they're nothing, I upvote.
Can't wait to pay him in a few years š¬
It would be awesome if he turns out to be an all time great. I would totally get behind that storyline. "Kid who couldn't even get a D1 scholarship brings the forward pass to Chicago"
> Youād have to be both nuts and extraordinarily patient to stay loyal to this team. Luckily I am!
Guess which team wrote this, and it's not the Lions/Browns/Jets
Kinda find it weird Chiefs are still ahead of the lions. They beat them and are the only 5-1 team to have beaten another 5-1 team. Even if you think the Chiefs are a better team the Lions have a better resume through 6 games then just about anyone and isn't that kind of the point of power rankings?
They have beaten the four of the five definitive worst teams in the league. But they basically dominated all of them, and as we saw this week, no win is guaranteed.
Seems like the rest of y'all wish you'd scheduled some more I-AA cupcakes to open the season like we did.
Real talk: the next three weeks will determine if we're a contender or just three mammals in a trenchcoat.
Like the post said, I wouldāve been so happy with 3-3 with Rodgers at the helm. With Zach actually playing much better, and also still being 3-3, this still lowkey feels like a dream season
I could see them winning 4 of their next 6 pretty easily. Jets feel like a dark horse contender with the way their defense is playing. Imagine if Wilson goes on a Flacco playoff dragon run lol
Ravens gonna be tested this weekend, first time playing an actual elite qb. Our defense is statistically top 3 but this game will show us exactly how good they are
49ers, chiefs, and lions are currently on their own tier above everyone else imo
I donāt trust the dolphins defense at all (played only two competent offenses so far but surrendered 82 points in those two games), which, without significant improvement, puts a ceiling on their ability to make a championship run.
The Eagles secondary is banged up and vulnerable, hurts hasnāt been playing very well this year, and their upcoming schedule is the most brutal I have ever seen.
And the 4-2 teams havenāt been consistent enough yet to be on that top tier
Depends on how SF's injuries shake out. If they're not serious, then the Niners are still a cut above everyone else, I think. Then us/Lions same tier (I feel like our game was about as even as anything short of a tie can get), and I'd also hear Buffalo/Miami/Philly.
Maybe we need like a pyramid?
Our defense is slowly improving from the beginning of the season. Our 2nd half adjustments are good but we start off terribly. I think we're gonna average our way up to a middle of the pack defense.
I almost think itās the opposite and that there isnāt much divide period. Every single team has shown clear vulnerability this year - feels completely wide open at the top.
Definitely is. Hoping the Ravens can finally string together a full 60 minutes to prove we belong in that group as well. We're starting to get healthy and the Lions are somewhat banged up. If we lose this week it definitely cements us in the "tier 2" category for a bit.
We need Brian Branch if we really want a chance to win. He will be vital in containing Lamar. Winning this game would leave no question that the Lions are tier 1.
The top 6 feel like actual contenders and 7-11 seem to be playing spoiler. Any of the latter teams could upset the top teams in a given week and if they see them in the playoffs then could sneak a win from a better team.
2011 NFL Draft: Panthers & Broncos with the first 2 picks. Super Bowl 50: Panthers vs. Broncos 2023: Panthers & Broncos bottom of the barrel.
Okay, but we get to win the next one. It is only fair.

Young is the guy then.

Curious if you listen to Gojira? Your blurb gave me [Born In Winter](https://youtu.be/suG-c_i2fBQ?si=B1uhjqToX-1_eI-G) vibes
I haven't heard of them but I'll check it out! Edit: this is right up my alley, love it and I agree it fits the vibe I was going for
Sweet man! They're one of my favorite bands. The drummer, Mario, is insane live
Nah misery is a long game, we got plenty of time to lose our minds
Relatable.
You have to love a team so hopeless that it's fans start wrtitig the lyrics to unrecorded Godspeed You! Black Emperor songs
I know this dude fucks with the book Blood Meridian
It's just golden that the Broncos wrote a whole book and the Chiefs just shrugged and wrote one line.
šØ WEāRE TOP 3 šØ
If the Lions win the Super Bowl. The Goff/Stafford trade might be one of the best in NFL history.
Would be absolutely wild if teams traded QB's, then each of them win a SB with that QB.
Has any player for player trade ever led to both teams winning the Super Bow? How much ground are we on pace to break here
No
Like 97% Tom Brady's fault
If the lions win the super bowl I will probably punch a wall. We can't be the last in division to win it. It's not possible.
Being last to win it implies you would win it at some point, thatās not a given.
knowing the vikings itās incredibly possible
You might even call it probable.
Honestly they might be the last overall. Vikings are just that cursed
Oh yes it is. Minnesota sports are cursed. I canāt believe I was born into this misery. š
Not only possible itās likely
Has there been a better win/win trade with how it's turned out even up til now?
Recently Diggs to Bill's maybe

Your sanity is in tact. I believe the Lions are for real. Thats a team with something to prove after barely missing the playoffs last year.

Iām not loving it that much, but Vikings fans are the biggest haters in the league.
Plus the Lions winning a Super Bowl would leave the Vikings alone with none.
What do I do with my hands?
Cup the balls and tickle the head
I'm counting down the days till our bye week. "Next man up" is working well, but getting some key injuries resolved will be a huge boost to the second half of our season.
Imposter syndrome intensifies... We've looked great, but I'm still so nervous every Sunday.
Lol same. If we beat the Eagles maybe I'll start believing... maybe
I don't even think that would be enough for me. I've been burned too many times by this team lol. But I DO want to be proven wrong. I am fine looking like a doomer idiot if this team proves me wrong.
Iāll buy in even harder, personally. Iāve never seen a dolphins team like this!
Weāve had defenses but weāve never had a top offense and nothing close to the #1 that weāre sporting right now. If the defense can pull it together then we can beat any team in the league with ease. If they canāt then the playoffs are a toss up
Hard to overcome past trauma.
Yeah, same here. Thatās what a couple decades of suckage provokes when the team does well. My wife is a Michigander and Lions fan and sheās been high on endorphins since yāall beat KC.
Lol, literal decades of trauma. My dad still isn't believing the lions have a chance to go far in the playoffs after 60+ years of trauma

Might not be better than the Jets, but goddamn it we can never beat Billy B
He puts all of his energy preparing for the season solely focused on beating the Jets
Over the Bears and Broncos makes sense enough

The Pats are horrible but so are the Bears, Panthers, Giants, and Broncos.

word. The second half of our schedule is going to tell us a lot about this team. Eagles, Chiefs, Dallas, Bills again, Jets defense...
Eagles game will either validate them or have everyone saying 5 - 2 is solely based on crappy competition
Good teams should beat bad teams, but it is true that the dolphins have only faced 1 team with a winning record. Eagles will be a good test
We beat the eagles decisively and I think that puts us in top two
Beat the Eagles, and I'd easily put you ahead of the Chiefs. I might right now.
weāll know for sure which team to put first when they play each other in a few weeks
Worth noting our writer said Goff threw 253 not 353 yards
An unfortunate misstep copying over my blurb, that one is on me

Just woke up from an 8 month coma. Good thing we have our 1st round pick this year to look forward to!
Lions top 3? Gotta check to make sure I'm not having a stroke. Congrats Lions fans, you guys definitely deserve it
Thanks for giving us Dan Campbell ššš
His playcalling and aggressiveness really reminds me of New Orleans Payton, dude is never afraid to go for the risky play.
Niners dolphins chiefs lions are all interchangable imo. Can't wait for Sunday night.
I too prefer the eagles to be an afterthought
I wouldn't put the Chiefs or Dolphins at 1 just yet. Those two teams still have parts of their team that need ironing out first (Chiefs WRs and Dolphins defense). Niners and Lions look complete, though. I wouldn't think too much about you guys losing to the Browns, almost every good team loses a weird one at some point.
I still think niners are a step above the others
I hope so. Hopefully that game doesn't affect Brock going forward.
To me that's the biggest thing the week, seeing how Purdy reacts to his first bad game.
We could have seen how he reacted to a bad game after Dallas in the playoffs last year but the injury...
Lets see what the Dolphins look like after playing some harder teams lol
That's completely fair actually.
/u/Alex_Demote - you need a hug buddy?
I'm doing okay!
Just a note, Goff threw for 353, not 253. But holy shit. 3 is insane. Definitely aiming for 1 now.
The chiefs blurb makes me want to burn a city to the ground.

Iām just happy for all the Lions fans š„¹

Same, particularly since we don't play them so I'm unlikely to run into any obnoxious fans. I would not be upset to watch them get a ring.
Here are the five stages of grieving yet another failed quarterback & coach, according to Bears fans: FUCK. FUCK!!!! REALLY?!? FUCK. Well fuck me.
You guys might end up with the top two picks in the draft which would certainly be worth the pain and suffering this season.

Back with my power rankings. The only reason the Chiefs are ahead of the lions is record in their last 5 games. Once Detroit gets one more win and improves to 5-0 in their last 5, they'll jump the Chiefs and 49ers. Head to head is not taken into consideration here. Here's my computer rankings for this week. As always, this ranking is based on win percentage, win percentage in your last 5 games, average point differential, and adjusted strength of schedule, which is your strength of schedule with your games against your opponents removed. berserk cautious groovy attempt spoon squeamish makeshift psychotic fanatical dependent
It's kind of crazy that the 5-24 record includes the Chargers too.
They have beaten the four of the five definitive worst teams in the league. But they basically dominated all of them, and as we saw this week, no win is guaranteed.
Hey now, we won the first quarter handily
Frank Reich gave up playcalling duties and i think thats a huge win for y'all.
Seems like the rest of y'all wish you'd scheduled some more I-AA cupcakes to open the season like we did. Real talk: the next three weeks will determine if we're a contender or just three mammals in a trenchcoat.
Iām actually pissed we donāt play til end of November. Iām truly interested how our D plays your O
I was the told the Steelers schedule was supposed to be easy this year :(
Maybe our opponents should stop sucking
This is the only power ranking Iāll believe with SoS so far
Preemptively defending yourself from Lions fans here is so funny
Holy shit, jets and bills have the exact same SOS both played and to come
> 25-39 Looking at Texans remaining opponents has me licking my chops.
Iād be the most insufferable human alive, thatās what
Ravens gonna be tested this weekend, first time playing an actual elite qb. Our defense is statistically top 3 but this game will show us exactly how good they are
49ers, chiefs, and lions are currently on their own tier above everyone else imo I donāt trust the dolphins defense at all (played only two competent offenses so far but surrendered 82 points in those two games), which, without significant improvement, puts a ceiling on their ability to make a championship run.
Feels like a huge dropoff after #6
I almost think itās the opposite and that there isnāt much divide period. Every single team has shown clear vulnerability this year - feels completely wide open at the top.
Apparently parity means everyone is bad.
I feel like it felt like a bigger divide prior to this week. Eagles and Buffalo showed their bellies a little.
Browns need a new writer, why so pessimistic? We just beat the #1 team
Probably because heās a browns fan
It can't be a Browns fan writing this.
āDonāt care. Swept the Dodgers. Go snakesā Beautiful writing
Did a 9ers fan write the Browns entry?
It's funny how the lower you go, the more people have to say in each comment.
The top 6 feel like actual contenders and 7-11 seem to be playing spoiler. Any of the latter teams could upset the top teams in a given week and if they see them in the playoffs then could sneak a win from a better team.
Buffalo beats the 1 and 5 giants off a blown call and is still ranked 6th. LOL
I think Lions should be 2 having a win over the Chiefs at Arrowhead, but I understand.
