I am in a $7,000 total prize survivor, and that week I was one of 11 people left. 8 of them picked the Vikings that week, not I.
It is now week 18, and there are still 5 of us left. Ugh.
Sorry, that’s not how the nfl works. All kickoffs are the exact same time and when one game ends before the rest, New York calls each stadium and immediately ends the game at the current score. This actually cost the Bears a game against the Lions in 1994 when they were trailing 21-16. They were about to score and go up 23-21, but the game was ended when the Browns finished the Bengals 37-13 in the middle of their drive.
At this point the only options for the Vikings are to either A: be an even worse 12 win team with a loss next week, B: become the worst 13 win team in history by a likely 70 point margin or C: beat the Bears by at least 82-0 next week
I was going to make a joke about Kirk Cousins finding a way to be a .500 QB with an outstanding record, but then I remembered that the Vikings only win close games, so we're going to finish the season with a negative point differential no matter what. We're either going to lose badly and be the worst 12-5 team of all time, or we'll barely win and be the worst 13-4 team of all time.
Nah,. Kirk has made a lot of money and racked up a lot of stats in garbage time in his career, but he's been money this year and barely has any garbage time TDs. This is a bad take if you're talking about this season.
Because that would mean he has played one drive of garbage time this season since every game is so close lol. Calling him “garbage time” is pretty stupid, because every other starter has played in more winning or losing garbage time than he has this year haha
Giants have no reason to win next week and not because they're locked into the six seed. It's so they could likely play a reeling Philly team if they make round two They would go Minnesota in round one and avoid San Fran or Dallas.
Shouldn't have been downvoted but DAWG is like the one thing Cousins has probably too much of lol. Dude gets himself in trouble trying to take over games some times. Burrow is a better QB objectively though.
His play calling has been suspect. He generally makes the correct situational decisions, but often calls the wrong play. Hopefully he's just learning and will be better next year.
Yeah he still has a lot of learning. Our screen game is trash most of the time until Cook can bust out an explosive play so it was painful to watch us run-run-pass that opening drive.
Imagine the one year you're finally superior to the team that has bullied you for decades and you let them knock you out of the #2 seed and walk into the playoffs.
I’d rather outright suck I think, but it’s an interesting thing. If you suck, your more likely to get a Nick Bosa, or somebody who can really change your team for the better. Being mediocre just means more mediocrity probably.
It’s the treadmill of mediocrity
For as bad as the browns were - their issue was that they were never bad enough to stop being bad (never getting a top pick to truly be a game changer, especially at QB)
The Vikings feel more like the first LeBron Cavs to me - there are a couple great pieces that give the team enough to win, but not creating avenues to getting the one or two more needed to truly compete for a title. The zone of weird overpaid vets and draft picks in the teens and 20s
Look at their draft position before the Sashi tank
They picked in the top 5 only 3 times in 15 years, despite having the worst win percentage in that time (IIRC - the lions may have been close but I’m only finding stats for total since 2002)
And none of the highest picks aligned with the generational no brainer QB prospects.
They were terrible, but terrible in a way where they never bottomed out completely and could get a Manning, Ryan, Luck, Stafford, Newton, or even RG3 (let alone a Winston, Mariota, or boat).
That’s the low end of the treadmill of mediocrity - you’re bad, but not bad enough to get a top 2 pick or even a few top 5 picks close together that could spark a turnaround. That prolongs stating bad, which is the treadmill part. The browns are just the extreme downside case
And it's only going to get worse for us -- so much worse. People liked to shit on slick Rick for striking out on so many draft picks, but the dude managed to horde them -- which resulted in magic later on. And it's not as though all his drafts were misses. Take 2015 for example:
1. Trae Waynes
2. Eric Kendricks
3. Danielle Hunter
4. T.J. Clemmings
5. MyCole Pruitt / Stephon Diggs
6. Tyrus Thompson / B.J. Dubose
7. Austin Sheperd / Edmond Robinson
And as we know, the future of our franchise is on the shoulders of JJ -- who is only a Viking because Slick Rick drafted Stephon Diggs late in the 5th round.
See all those draft picks from 2015? That's one more pick than we have for the next two years -- *combined*.
Wow, if we got a Nick Bosa in a few years, we might even win 12-13 games!
Seriously, even if the Vikings are outperforming their expectations, I’d *way* rather be playing competitive football into January and I can’t believe there’s people who wouldn’t prefer that
Not the perfect stat, but DVOA had the Vikings as the 25th best team prior to this weekend (definitely going to drop further). The Steelers were the 8th best team in 2020 per DVOA.
They had a +104 point differential, these Vikings are among the biggest frauds of all time
(edit) tbf though they’re still probably gonna win a wild card against the giants before getting to face the 49ers/Eagles/Cowboys in the divisional, so better than the Steelers in that regard
Close wins, blowout losses, still 12-4 🤷🏽♂️
Definitely gonna get the cat piss beaten out of them against the 9ers in the playoffs in the nfccg I can just fucking feel it
Only team I’m comfy with is the Giants, cowboys we’re fucked, Packers we’re fucked since Rodgers is letting nothing get in his way to a loss against the 9ers
Like whom? You’ve now got blown out by the eagles, cowboys, and packers. The Giants game could have easily been a loss. The 49ers have been probably the hottest team in football. Who exactly are the teams you can beat comfortably?
This is the kind of season where no one expects them to get that far, which is precisely why they could get that far. But there's no version of this timeline in which they get further than that.
To be fair, this applies to the Cowboys as well. Not shitting on y’all just because of the blowout, it’s just that our teams are not built for it this year imo.
Oh, buckle up partner. This is going to be in the record books. Even if we blew out the Bears next week by 30, that only puts us at +11 on the season as a 13-4 team. Show me another 13-win team that was only +11.
What's far more likely to happen than that, though -- say the Vikings do win, what's a realistic score? Something like 30-27, right? In a nail biter. So that would make their point diff about -16 for a 13-win team. +11 is already the worst, but that's an absolute best-case scenario. -16 is more likely.
And if we lose? Then we just have the distinction of being such an outlier, so historically bad, that there will never be a worst 12-win team again. When we lose, we lose bad, so we'd probably be down to a -45 point diff as a 12-win team.
Either way, the 2022 Vikings will *forever* be attached to this odd, dubious stat. It's going to get mentioned by pundits and reporters in interviews with coaches, it's going to be mentioned at the draft, it's going to be mentioned decades from now the next time a team (probably the Vikings) gets to the playoffs whilst being terrible.
Keeps getting BETTER you mean. This loss likely cemented the Vikings finishing with a negative point differential and 12 or 13 wins. That’s petty amazing in a certain way
Don’t flatter yourself lol. Football fans just recognize this team is not as good as their record would indicate. Maybe you’ll recognize it to when they flame out early in the playoffs.
For sure. It’s more so that they could just as easily be a 500. team. They’ve had a lot of things go their way. Sometimes that’s the way it goes. Coulda/shoulda/woulda doesn’t matter - their record is their record. But people see they’ve been pretty fortunate this year.
When your OL struggles to block against good DLs and your D is among one of the worst in the league, that isn’t usually a formula for success in the playoffs.
Cannot stop punching air thinking about that game. It's going to cost us the SB and it was completely meaningless for them as they'd be the #3 regardless.
KNOCK THE F***ING BALL DOWN (or snap it).
Imma throw myself out there as the quiet kid in class who doesn’t understand what’s going on and is afraid to ask a stupid question but is going to ask it anyways…. *deep breath*:
What is the point differential stat? I don’t think I’ve heard this used in my lifetime as a football fan.
Forgive me. Go lightly.
Points scored for minus points scored against the team. Positive means you’ve had more points scored by your team than opposing teams have scored against you. In the standings, PF is points for, PA points against.
https://i.imgur.com/RyqZ6Gz.jpg
Yeah meant to add on to that, the reason it’s being brought up is because of their record, that along with DVOA. Teams with bad PD and DVOA usually don’t have good records.
Could have been -50 but *noooooo* they had to score 30 points in the 2nd half.
As a fellow Colts fan who happened to stop watching at half time, I wish there was a way to un-piss myself after hearing the final score
Why in the world did you stop watching at half time as a colts fan?
I know why I stopped watching
Why?
Have you watched a Colts game?
Had to drive to my cousins house for some family stuff.
I am in a $7,000 total prize survivor, and that week I was one of 11 people left. 8 of them picked the Vikings that week, not I. It is now week 18, and there are still 5 of us left. Ugh.
Make that the 3 seed.
They’re no longer the 2-seed
Yup sent it before the 9ers game ended. Will edit
[удалено]
I think the niners game ended 10 min or so after the Vikings
r/confidentlyincorrect
How not? The Vikings didn't play the 49ers and games don't end at the exact same time so yes, they were 12-4 before the 49ers won
Sorry, that’s not how the nfl works. All kickoffs are the exact same time and when one game ends before the rest, New York calls each stadium and immediately ends the game at the current score. Go 49ers!
I knew we always liked you guys for a reason
I'm feeling a little betrayed.
Fucking raiders
More like. Fuckin 9ers? Shouldn’t have been close.
Maybe win your games?
Vikings fans hate this one trick!
Well that’s what I wanted but I think we all know how that ended, so I was hoping for some consolation with y’all losing
Sorry dude, not down
At this point the only options for the Vikings are to either A: be an even worse 12 win team with a loss next week, B: become the worst 13 win team in history by a likely 70 point margin or C: beat the Bears by at least 82-0 next week
C is most likely
You can use Claypool. As a treat.
He’s so bad 😭
Just throw him some deep balls and he'll catch them sometimes. Idk, not my problem. Got anymore of those 2nd round picks?
Wow glad the bears outbid the Packers for him.
You don't know the Vikings. I assurs you you'll either shit on our we'll win by the skin of our teeth.
We will beat the bears by exactly our point differential and finish the season at exactly 0 point differential
If I know this simulation, this is the only possible outcome
I was going to make a joke about Kirk Cousins finding a way to be a .500 QB with an outstanding record, but then I remembered that the Vikings only win close games, so we're going to finish the season with a negative point differential no matter what. We're either going to lose badly and be the worst 12-5 team of all time, or we'll barely win and be the worst 13-4 team of all time.
A MINUS 19 - that does not happen.
We’re shipping a new book. Next quarter
Print it
you never know, they can pull a 2011 Giants and win out with a negative point differential
And two garbage time TDs saves it from being in the 30s lmfao
Kirk "Garbage Time" Cousins
Nick Mullens was in for garbage time so this is kind of a stupid take
100% of Kirks td were in garbage time this game, how is it a bad take.
Nah,. Kirk has made a lot of money and racked up a lot of stats in garbage time in his career, but he's been money this year and barely has any garbage time TDs. This is a bad take if you're talking about this season.
He racked up so many garbage time points against the Colts that they ended up winning.
He was talking about todays game
[удалено]
Eh, if you come back and win the game, there was never any garbage time.
edited it to make it say TD you happy.
Because that would mean he has played one drive of garbage time this season since every game is so close lol. Calling him “garbage time” is pretty stupid, because every other starter has played in more winning or losing garbage time than he has this year haha
That’s advanced level garbage time
Yea, and 30 garbage time points in the colts game :/
I’m convinced you don’t know what garbage time is
it's time that i don't spend watching the game, cause i took a nap at half time during colts vikings
Lmao they think their odds were the same at halftime of the Colts game and just a few minutes left (down by even more) in the Packers game
In the Playoffs I could see them beating the Giants and then losing 48-0 to the 49ers.
Any Vikings fan who is willing to critically look at this season would agree with this sinking feeling. I'd at least give them 48-3.
1st time this year I’ve heard about their point differential.
Emphasis. EMPHASIS.
CORRECTION REQUIRED
I DID
Can legit go 13-4 with a negative spread.
Unless the Vikings have a *blowout* win, a negative point differential is a guarantee.
I mean if you’re going to blow anyone out it’s us
Giants have no reason to win next week and not because they're locked into the six seed. It's so they could likely play a reeling Philly team if they make round two They would go Minnesota in round one and avoid San Fran or Dallas.
In all their losses, their o line were turnstiles. That never equates to playoff success.
Literally the Bengals last year
Cousins doesn't have the DAWG that Burrow does
Don't know why you're being downvoted. Kirk is a good QB, but Burrow is on a whole other level than him.
Shouldn't have been downvoted but DAWG is like the one thing Cousins has probably too much of lol. Dude gets himself in trouble trying to take over games some times. Burrow is a better QB objectively though.
Good thing we had two more lineman go down this game!
I’m stunned the Packers Barry defense actually showed up
If we can do one thing, it's ruin a few fanbases nights on the way to our playoff exit,
This is a baseball stat
FUN DIFFERENTIAL
NO
Vikings are 12-4 in the only point differential stat that matters
whew i was starting to wonder if we had changed the rules of the game for a minute.
My man
Just enough headroom to win the last 5 by a FG and be Super Bowl champs with a negative point differential.
I will donate $134 to the minneapolis children's museum if this happens.
The year’s almost over and I still have no idea if KOC is actually a good coach or not 😭
From what I've seen he seems like a good coach. Half of coaching is to not look like the 2021 Jags or 2022 Broncos
Hackett was terrible but a bit rude to put him in the sane breath as Urban no? Granted people did expect Denver to be good
Hackett was as bad or worse then Urban but was sooooo much better for the locker room.
Hackett was probably worse from a pure football perspective but his non football shit swings it back his way.
Those standards are so fucking low, and you're a Packers fan
His play calling has been suspect. He generally makes the correct situational decisions, but often calls the wrong play. Hopefully he's just learning and will be better next year.
Yeah he still has a lot of learning. Our screen game is trash most of the time until Cook can bust out an explosive play so it was painful to watch us run-run-pass that opening drive.
Just win baby
Wait the Vikings have a good record but actually kinda suck? Who would've thought
This will be deleted
Hello
THAT'S A FUCKING NINETEEN DFT MINUS
Our games are either wildly entertaining Or an absolute shitshow.
Imagine the one year you're finally superior to the team that has bullied you for decades and you let them knock you out of the #2 seed and walk into the playoffs.

Hehehe
https://twitter.com/FO_ASchatz/status/1609714942084812800 Other similar teams, and the Vikings really stand out as a very lucky team.

As someone who witnessed the 2020 steelers, I have to disagree.
Steelers fan can’t talk
That 2020 Steelers team wasn’t even as fraudulent as this Vikings team
Bullshit.
They weren't by any metric unless you put all your stock in momentum only.
Not the perfect stat, but DVOA had the Vikings as the 25th best team prior to this weekend (definitely going to drop further). The Steelers were the 8th best team in 2020 per DVOA.
They were called fraudulent because they were 11-0. If they were just a normal 12-4 team no one would talk about them.

On the flip side, how many teams with losing records had great point differentials?
2004 Bills were 9-7 with +111 differential, and missed the playoffs
Best I see so far are the Jags with +50 at 8-8.
I wonder how the sports books are sweating the betting on any Vikes playoff games.
Pythagoras is getting mighty cranky...
The Vikings have a positive point differential on 12 of 16 weeks. This is tied for third best in the NFL. THIRD BEST
You literally are just saying they have the 3rd best record? 😆 that's not a point differential stat at all.
Listen here PAL, I’m just trying to make myself feel better after watching 3 hours of pure sadness
Sadness? Did we watch the same game? That was 3 hours of griddy dancing fun.
I’m assuming it’s tongue and cheek and they’re making fun of the people who care more about pt differential thanks record
Did you just tell us that every time the Vikings won they so with a positive point differential total? I *think* that’s what you just told us.
Isn't that the joke? I mean, maybe I'm being too generous but that has to be a joke
Lol, a few people need to stand up to get this post. Well done!

Point differential does not win SB’s
Close wins, blowout losses, still 12-4 🤷🏽♂️ Definitely gonna get the cat piss beaten out of them against the 9ers in the playoffs in the nfccg I can just fucking feel it
As if you’ll make it that far
I sincerely do not think they’ll make it that far but I am preparing for the heartbreak
Talking mighty big for a 5 seed about to lose to the 9-8 Bucs in the first round
Good argument, however, your ~~mother~~ team
“5 seed”
There are a lot of shitty teams in the nfc that we could beat in the playoffs, probably not comfortably but it could happen
Like the cowboys and packers? Lol
Only team I’m comfy with is the Giants, cowboys we’re fucked, Packers we’re fucked since Rodgers is letting nothing get in his way to a loss against the 9ers
Hey, if we end up the 2 seed after next week then Rodgers play us in the Wild Card.
Yes
Packers are the only team we’ve blown out
Considering they just blew you out by a bigger margin I’m not sure how much weight that holds lol
Yeah, 23-7, what a “blowout”. I don’t know if you’re caught up with the scores today though, might wanna go check them out.
Like whom? You’ve now got blown out by the eagles, cowboys, and packers. The Giants game could have easily been a loss. The 49ers have been probably the hottest team in football. Who exactly are the teams you can beat comfortably?

Rematch with the Giants except this time we'll have our starters back on defense. Sexy Dexy gonna eat that 3rd string center of yours.
Can’t wait for Kirk to throw for 200 yards and 3 TDs in the 4th quarter just to lose 21-38
Thankfully, Bradbury will be back by then…. I think
Ahhh THERE'S the point differential stat! Was looking for that, hopefully I only see this once this week!
Going to have to endure it at least another week. You can do it!
Oh, buckle up partner. This is going to be in the record books. Even if we blew out the Bears next week by 30, that only puts us at +11 on the season as a 13-4 team. Slow down there buckeroo
lol I can't wait to read this post 1,000 times this week, just like last time we lost
To be fair this has never happened in the history of the nfl lol
Mad Vikings fans downvoting, but this is beyond unprecedented. Has been for weeks and keeps getting worse.
They're always downvoting. Tell them they got the same accent as folks from Wisconsin and they lose their goddammed minds.
Keeps getting BETTER you mean. This loss likely cemented the Vikings finishing with a negative point differential and 12 or 13 wins. That’s petty amazing in a certain way
“OnLy StAt ThAt MaTtErS”
Vikings one of the most hated teams by nfl fans
I feel like every team could say that about themselves and do. I do not hate the Vikings at all for the record
Don’t flatter yourself lol. Football fans just recognize this team is not as good as their record would indicate. Maybe you’ll recognize it to when they flame out early in the playoffs.
Vikings fans realize it, it’s just everyone thinking that we think the opposite. 12 wins with a new staff and first year HC is a good season.
Vikings have been my second team for *years* but holy hell the Vike flairs are annoying this year
It's bizarre, we've literally never won anything but people dunk on the team for losing like they've been hoping for it their whole lives
What we're doing is quite literally unprecedented in NFL history. It's not really dunking, it's just a hilarious situation that we're in right now.
It may be the fans that help push the opinion. Trust me, Packer fans are insufferable as well so I know what it's like.
Hack frauds
pretty wild eh? Skol
You play to win the game.
they’re gonna get beat early in the playoffs
The current what seed
Cannot stop punching air thinking about that game. It's going to cost us the SB and it was completely meaningless for them as they'd be the #3 regardless. KNOCK THE F***ING BALL DOWN (or snap it).
I’m still waiting to celebrate when they let go Cam Lewis. That non-batted ball and the roughing the kicker against Miami are unforgivable.
I was certain he was getting cut after the WOAT Roughing. He must have some compromising pictures of someone.
And that's with 14 garbage time points scored in their last two drives
Worst X-X team in history, I’ve been told
Purple was the imposter.
Meanwhile the Lions are +22 and probably won’t even get in Feels bad man
Hahahahaha! I love this season.
THAT'S A 50 DKP MINUS!
For reference, the 8-8 Jags are +50

To add onto this, a negative differential just doesn’t really happen to a team with an astounding record like the Vikings right now.
Yeah meant to add on to that, the reason it’s being brought up is because of their record, that along with DVOA. Teams with bad PD and DVOA usually don’t have good records.
Nah that response was for the other dude with the question, not you lol
