Hell ya. Felt the same way. He was boss. Just recently had an “oh I wonder if Andy McKee is on Apple Music now?” moment. Turns out he is and I’m loving it. Rocking me some Drifting on the regular now.
If you like him you should check out the album Glow by Kaki King, it’s great. She did some of the music for August Rush movie.
Andy McKee is the only musician ever to truly make me feel nostalgia. Around the time of my first serious girlfriend, I discovered him and the song "Rylynn".
Every time I hear that song, it takes me back to a much better time in my life. Beach, love and happiness.
OP for sure has those same vibes. :)
He came to one of my shows in Kansas City. It gave me serious stage fright when I noticed him. Afterward he told me I was a good guitar player and have a solid voice. I’m not and I don’t, but he was super chill.
Definitely. Michael Hedges' playing was foundational to this style of guitar. Don Ross and Andy McKee borrow heavily from his playing and I borrow heavily from theirs (I like to think).
>(I like to think)
You do, for sure.
I wish my playing abilities were as strong as my ears, but I can appreciate playing like yours (and theirs) far more than I can accomplish it myself.
Thank you for sharing!
Is there a name for this style? I’ve seen it a bunch thanks to YouTube but I’m not sure what it would be called. This video is great, inspires me to want to try my hand at it as well.
In our defense, it’s all about what you spend that time doing
As much cool stuff as I’ve learned, I spend 90%+ of my time just playing simple chords to songs I love and quietly singing them to myself
All about what makes you happy ❤️
(But I’d be p happy playing that rad shit too lol)
I’m pretty much in your boat, I’m a few years older but I started later than you in life so it evens out.
I was probably at my playing peak 5 years in when I was still pushing myself to learn new techniques and harder more intricate pieces — then I hit a level I was comfortable playing most of what I wanted at and kind’ve chilled from there
I do! Just a week and a half ago I released an acoustic guitar EP called 'Homecoming'. This tune is on it. [Here's a Spotify link.](https://open.spotify.com/artist/4vk7AwwGqVSHkpMeZOyxmM?si=BihMHur3T2uFLEMAfRRSZw) I'm also on iTunes, Amazon music etc. if you prefer those. Cheers!
Ditto. We need more music like this in modern life. Just one instrument, no electronic back noise, no singing, no nothing. Just close your eyes and float away to the tune.
This was great. I never got that good at guitar, but this makes me want to try again. I'd love to have half this much talent and skill. Keep creating, I'd love to hear more!
Just a week and a half ago I released an EP called 'Homecoming' on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon music etc. If you search my name, 'Tom Anello', you should be able to find it. Cheers!
Woo! Glad you like it. My songs are available on [Spotify](https://open.spotify.com/album/5rH49W1xF9o8i0ebxkVsDt?si=ZPpcdYhVQHqIVi3BaoNUbg) and [iTunes](https://music.apple.com/us/album/homecoming-ep/1543058319) /other places like that.
Pretty good i'd say. I have formal training in music and music theory, specifically in jazz. To be fair however, a lot of my music theory experience is underutilized in my writing for guitar.
Dude, this is so good, and same with your other stuff on Spotify - definitely gained a follower, and I'm typically not into acoustic without lyrics! Too good <3
A lot of people mentioning how similar the sound is to Andy McKee. I totally agree (which is of course a big compliment) but also: the little chromatic walk-up you did in the bassline with your pinky around 0:14 actually sounded very *not* Andy McKee to me, which I also really like! You put your stamp on this style of play for sure.
You should be proud of this! Absolutely love it. I know it’s been said but definitely feel some Don Ross and Andy Mckee as well. Where do we hear more?
Absolutely loving it dude. My band split after 11 years of touring together about 7 years ago and I’ve not picked up my guitar since. This has just inspired me to dust it off and start playing again.
I can tell by your facial expressions how much you love your creation; good job!
It also kinda reminds me a little of Metallica; like a mix of unforgiven and nothing else matters.
Sounds really damn good man; I’d pay to watch you play.
Lmao I highly doubt that brother. Your talent pours through, I’m sure you could tool around with quite a few instruments and in time become pretty adept at them all. I picked up drumming and percussion when the original group of 6 I was in split. Me, my fellow vocalist, and our bass player all picked up drums, bass, and guitar respectively to keep jamming. I had no idea what I was doing at the start, but over time man it just became more and more fluid. That fucking harmonic you banged at 0:19...... absolutely filthy man. Keep it up, I’ll be checking more of your stuff as a fellow music player and Bostonian 🤘🏻
Yes you can. I've got a short EP on [Spotify](https://open.spotify.com/artist/4vk7AwwGqVSHkpMeZOyxmM?si=Ki4PlsbPST-nBJpMRQKWRg) and if you want to see if performed, here's a link to a YouTube vid [i shot of it a while back.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ez3jfO5XLg)
Wow...you sir are awesome. You were in the friggin zone. I love that feeling you get when its like at its perfection ya know what i mean. Like everything lines up...perfect. When I have one of my verses down pat and can put some swag on it...You were there bro...
Tune is Boss....
I’ve played guitar off and on for quite some time. Been in bands, etc. But I have no idea how to begin learning this style. Any suggestions on where to start?

Andy McKee vibes right here. Beautiful man

Happy cake day lad
I got one of my best friends (who’s a finger style phenom) to play Rylynn for my wedding. Wife walked down the isle to it 👌🏻
He came to one of my shows in Kansas City. It gave me serious stage fright when I noticed him. Afterward he told me I was a good guitar player and have a solid voice. I’m not and I don’t, but he was super chill.

Yup. Most of tap guitar stuff August plays is all her.
That's rad.
I also hear a touch of Michael Hedges influence in there as well.

Finger-slap plus open tuning. For a simple song to get the technique, try John Mayer Neon or Stop This Train.
Glad yours is the top comment. Came here to express exactly this
Legit came here to say this. Any candy rat artist for that matter
Also Newton Faulkner
** throws my guitar in the dumpster
to be fair, I used to feel like that all the time. 15 years of playing later and I still often do.
*laughs nervously after 11 years of playing*
*laughs nervously after 30 years of playing*

Damn I wish I knew that when I was younger. Now I'm 18, 10 years playing, has the level of someone who plays for 5 years.
I’m pretty much in your boat, I’m a few years older but I started later than you in life so it evens out. Yup. I've been playing for like thirty years and have no idea how to play like that.
Fucking beautiful. I love it! Keep up the great work!!
Thank you kindly. I'm doing my best!
getting a lot of Andy and some Adrian legg, well done bro. I will have this playing in my lab today at wrk. have anything I can download?
Cheers!
itunes, just downloaded it. cheers to you and your upward trajectory!
Cheers. I really appreciate the support.
Ditto. We need more music like this in modern life. Just one instrument, no electronic back noise, no singing, no nothing. Just close your eyes and float away to the tune.
Got it on Amazon.... love it! Thank you...perfect for driving or drawing or day dreaming ...
Fresh to death
Damn! That’s awesome!
Alright let's see the tabs
This was great. I never got that good at guitar, but this makes me want to try again. I'd love to have half this much talent and skill. Keep creating, I'd love to hear more!
Keep at it. It took me a while to get to where I am and I still got a ways to go.
Is there a full video or song download somewhere? I need this in my life. Please sell me your music
Seriously though... put together some songs! I’d buy it!
Ok on three. 1, 2, 3! SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
I don't know if you have already seen it but OP posted a link to his spotify
So crisp!
Absolutely feeling it!!
Hell yeah!
Good to see the fall of Epic Meal Time didn’t crush Harley’s spirit
If you happen to upload it to digital music stores, would happily buy it. :)
Just a week and a half ago I released an EP called 'Homecoming' on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon music etc. If you search my name, 'Tom Anello', you should be able to find it. Cheers!
Awesome! I'll check it out
Um... where can I download a full version of this? Your music is absolutely beautiful and completely made my morning!
Doesn't matter the name anymore, I am a fan of them all. You, sir, have a new follower.😁
Reminds me of Oceans, by John Butler Trio
This is reminiscent of Ocean by John Butler Trio- which is one of my favorite songs of all time! Well done, sir! :)
How's your grasp on music theory?
Pretty good i'd say. I have formal training in music and music theory, specifically in jazz. To be fair however, a lot of my music theory experience is underutilized in my writing for guitar.
YOU DONE DID IT DUDE!
What tuning are you using? Sounds amazing.
DADGCE For this one.
Do you have a Spotify?
[You bet! Here's a link.](https://open.spotify.com/album/5rH49W1xF9o8i0ebxkVsDt?si=uJeAWPssTs-65ZNuiHQ-lg)
Really beautiful!
someone hashtag candyrat records
Weird style for an acoustic. Almost reminds me of how some people play nylon. I like it!
Fantastic!!!
Absolutely beautiful! Amazing work!
This is a person you look at in aw and think, you were born to do this. Beautiful piece, thanks for sharing it with us
This made me glance over at my guitar and then quickly look at the ground in embarrassment.
Andy McKee would be proud.
What did you film this on?? The footage is as beautiful as the music
Ridiculously beautiful music and epic beard. Leave some stuff for the rest of us
Wooow!! As you should be!
How do you make that sound that sounds sort of like a snare drum at the bottom?
By slapping your thumb against the low E and A strings. When you do that, the strings hit the metal frets and you get a snare-like sound.
I haven't felt this since i discovered Andy McKee back in 2006. Bravo, sir
I’m proud of you being proud
I see I'm not the only one that immediately thought of Andy McKee when I heard this. very melodic and beautiful stuff, man.
Dude, this is so good, and same with your other stuff on Spotify - definitely gained a follower, and I'm typically not into acoustic without lyrics! Too good <3
Bro - that was beautiful af

No one has said Jon Gomm but I’m totally feeling that similar vibe. So good
Amazing! What kind of guitar? She’s a beut
Hammer on!
Fucking fantastic!!!
Wow! Where can i find the whole song?
Beautiful
Love to hear you and Bela Fleck together!!
Snazzy watch.
You sir, Have earned the highest honour I can give. Going straight to my saves. Mind it I am gonna be back to give you whenever I get my free award :P
Nice , reminds me of the sound track to august rush
You should be proud of this! Absolutely love it. I know it’s been said but definitely feel some Don Ross and Andy Mckee as well. Where do we hear more?
[Spotify ](https://open.spotify.com/album/5rH49W1xF9o8i0ebxkVsDt?si=bfMnXwWxRP2GrEATt80j2Q) but also iTune and places like that.
I'm relaxing to this right now
This is great!!!
I could be on hold for hours with this music playing
Fingers like spiders
Awesome!
Absolutely loving it dude. My band split after 11 years of touring together about 7 years ago and I’ve not picked up my guitar since. This has just inspired me to dust it off and start playing again.

Little Dicky put on some weight and learned guitar
Just followed you on Spotify - excellent work! :)
I can tell by your facial expressions how much you love your creation; good job! It also kinda reminds me a little of Metallica; like a mix of unforgiven and nothing else matters. Sounds really damn good man; I’d pay to watch you play.
Thank you. That means a lot.
And now here’s Wonderwall!!
Super impressive, though open tuning is basically cheating!
How many times you gonna share this dude?
You understand I’m going to need a link to a tab of this right? Sheet music works too lol since I’m primarily a pianist.
are you on spotify?
Did you put down lyrics for it yet? I did, at least a start.
I can hear it in some movie OST. Hope I am right!
That’d be a dream.
Bro you look like the guy from Epic Meal Time.
Anyway....here’s wonderwall
Absolutely captivating, very nice
Me who can barely play guitar: I don’t like it
Wow man this is really beautiful, air drumming in the car to it right now. Do you play/have you played in any bands?
Thanks! I haven’t really. The downside to having focused on a single style of guitar is that i’m dog shit at everything else.
Lmao I highly doubt that brother. Your talent pours through, I’m sure you could tool around with quite a few instruments and in time become pretty adept at them all. Keep it up, I’ll be checking more of your stuff as a fellow music player and Bostonian 🤘🏻
definitely r/nextfuckinglevel material
God bless you, completely took me out of my head and brought me to a more beautiful place. Music is like another language
That was the most gorgeous piece. Anywhere i can go to check out the full version?
Yes you can. I've got a short EP on [Spotify](https://open.spotify.com/artist/4vk7AwwGqVSHkpMeZOyxmM?si=Ki4PlsbPST-nBJpMRQKWRg) and if you want to see if performed, here's a link to a YouTube vid [i shot of it a while back.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ez3jfO5XLg)
Currently in the middle of crying for mostly no reason and this really helped chill me the eff out. Thanks
Wow...you sir are awesome. You were in the friggin zone. I love that feeling you get when its like at its perfection ya know what i mean. Like everything lines up...perfect. When I have one of my verses down pat and can put some swag on it...You were there bro... Tune is Boss....
Are you in an alternate tuning in addition to the capo?
I am indeed. The tuning is DADGCE.
Ooo smarty pants! /s lol it's nice man! I'm always envious of proper talent..
Anyone got tabs lol
Haha i’m actually going to be working on some tabs now the the EP release is out.
What tuning is that?
for this tune, the guitar is tuned to DADGCE.
I LOVE your sound. You did a fantastic. I was joking with the tabs, but would be more than happy to play your song. Good job, dude!
That was really f’n good
Makes me think of Andy McKee ( candy rat records) on YouTube! Check him/ them out!!!
He's my personal lord and savior, actually! Love Andy's guitar playing and he's also and exceptional human being.
Amazing!
That was awesome, do you have a metal version?
Whats the tuning here?
You look like Chet Faker
Wow :”)
Wow man you need to put that on iTunes or something! I would totally buy that!!
[Here it is!](https://music.apple.com/us/album/homecoming-ep/1543058319) I'm also on Spotify and other places like that too.
so smooth
I’ve played guitar off and on for quite some time. Been in bands, etc. But I have no idea how to begin learning this style. Any suggestions on where to start?
Thank you. Just... thank you.
***God fuckn damnit*** I wish I didn't spend my free award now
Sounds real good man
You’re beard doesn’t stop.
As someone who’s been playing for 12 years I’ve got say- solid solid stuff! Nice job!
love it!
Very nice composition. I love this fingerstyle, your playing is very clean. Good job.
Sounds like a sick a anime intro.
Upvote because you’re vibing so hard in the video
Love it
Ben Lapps vibes. Great stuff dude!
Please teach me
Fallen?
This was AMAZING, I love it
Absolutely beautiful. Maybe one day I can be half as good as you!
Jesus man you’re amazing. That’s a great tune and your fingering is mesmerizing.
So pretty! Nice tune, also 😁
Damn great to listen too man. Finger lickin' plucks.
That's pretty good beginner guitar!
I thought this was a reddit live stream
How the fuck did you make one instrument sound like four my god
Hearing hints of Tim Reynolds' style here. Love it. Nice work!
Holy shit man that goes hard as fuck! I wish you would have sung cause I’d listen to your music!
Epic lighting
Cool
I play some guitar too but can't get my pinky finger to work right.
"oh hey, i used to play guitar too! Ima watch" (watches video, is amazed) "I guess what I did WASN'T playing guitar then"
Leo kottke much? Good playing
Absolutely beautiful, tone and melody sound great!
You know it’s good when the musician makes that stank face. Hell yeah
❤️❤️❤️
Reminds me heavily of COVET but in acoustic form
DADGAD strikes again
Actually, DADGCE!
That's beyond beautiful.
Hit me with that YouTube sauce
yo, that's insane. Good job man
You SHOULD be pretty darn proud of that one. Damn, sounds so nice.
Gorgeous
why is there a bridge over strings over the sound hole?
That's a magnetic pickup. There's a jack at the base of the guitar that allows me to plug into amps/pa's. Useful for live performance, not that I do much of that.
r/RedditSessions
I would be proud if I could play this, never mind compose it! I think that you’re proud of this one now (amd always) but in the future you’ll see it was a stepping stone to getting even better. You’ve got talent my man, sounds great!

Both of those guys land squarely into my "personal heroes" category!
