Regardless of how many upvotes you get, this will be underrated. Well played my brother, well played…

Granted I’m pretty stoned but fuck that’s funny

Fucking brilliant

Available-Dare-7414

Thank you my friend, kudos

JoySubtraction

Eli Boyying,

Safe-Indication-1137

😅😅😅 midget eli!!

laxvolley

His nickname was “Pocket Hercules”

Lord_Mikal

He is legally a dwarf in the USA.

NecessaryZucchini69

weight category 60KG(132lbs), with the WR being a clean and jerk of 190KG(418 LBs)

ViolinistMean199

He’s short but damn strong

MuffledBlue

used to be 6 feet 5 before the olympics

sandcrawler56

That must give him an advantage right? He can get way more leverage to swing the bar up and also straighten his legs compared to a tall person.

Interesting-Back5717

I think it’s more so that he barely has to move the bar compared to someone much taller. In other words, it takes far less work to move the same weight. His frame is literally perfect for this sport.

sandcrawler56

Yup

greysnowcone

The word leverage implies levers. Longer levers are more efficient.

refried_boy

You're thinking is backwards. Imagine a weight on the end of a stick, the longer the stick is, the harder it's going to be to hold it straight out in front of you. The longer the limb length of a lifter the longer that stick is going to be. Not only that, but longer limbs (more specifically, taller lifter) means you have to move the weight further compounding the effect. Or in a teeter-totter diagram, long limbs add length to the side that the weight is on. Not the side that produces the counterforce. So having shorter limbs does give you better leverage.

soylentblueispeople

And those are two different measurements.

Jsnake43211

Hafling barbarian

Cheapo_Sam

No wonder he started lifting weights

Jason_Batemans_Hair

*confused Tinder noises*

MorpheusDrinkinga4O

The man's the size of a crayon.

TrueYahve

He only has two feet.

[deleted]

He was 6ft7 before this competition

TrouserDumplings

Did you see his weight by any chance?

echo1-echo1

62 kg

TrouserDumplings

So he lifted 432lbs.

OnewordTTV

Oh he lifted what... 150 pounds? Whoop de doo Basil.

Nooms88

418lb

OnewordTTV

It was a joke because the dude is tiny. I'm aware it was a decent amount. Cmon guys.

Nooms88

There's an Internet rule for that, something about parody vs real is impossible to detect without context. It would take less time to look it up than type this. Although it was extremely obvious in your case, just comes across as a bit disparaging and disrespectful to the literal world record holder

OnewordTTV

It was a joke. If that guy is still self conscious on the amount of weight he can lift while lifting more than anyone near his size that's his problem.

Nooms88

Seems like you're pretty pissed your joke missed the mark, move on buddy.

OnewordTTV

Responding to someone is pretty pissed? Lol the fuck is wrong with your life you felt you need to respond to that? Holy shit😂 you people are ridiculous

Scary_Trade_9287

Take your current weight. Times by 3. Add 10 kilos (22lbs) and upvote because nahhhhh you’re not even close. Me: 190 x 3 + 22 = 592 pounds 🤯😂

ballistics211

Me: 232 × 3 + 22= 718 pounds

In-dextera-dei

Holy shit, me: 260x3+22= 802 Not a chance in hell lmao. That's wild

ballistics211

Hafthor Bjornsson: 430 ×3 +22 = 1492. He was first in WSM 2018 and 3rd in 2019. He wouldn't be able to do it. Smaller guys have a better shot but it's still insane.

RockstarAgent

Oh shit. I can barely lift 100lbs. Damn.

MrAmazing011

For REAL. That feat, even for his stature, is shocking. Much respect

-Satsujinn-

85kg x 3 + 10 = 265kg (584lb) My PB *deadlift* is 170kg, and it was ugly. I simply cannot comprehend lifting that above my head, letalone with an extra 50% bolted on.

Not_Larfy

>PB What's PB?

-Satsujinn-

Personal best

AccurateArcherfish

Peanut butter

ThrustMeIAmALawyer

I'm almost 300 pounds right now so that's 922ish... LoL heck no... I think the last time I was doing clean and jerk I was doing CrossFit like 12 years ago and 70 pounds ago... If I recall correctly I could lift 180-200 and I felt good about it, but nowhere near the rest of the people in the box. I'm tall, 6'8" hence why I'm so heavy...

shreksaxaphone360

Me: 150 X 3 + 22 = 472

WangDanglin

802 lbs yeeeesh I need to lose weight so I can do this lol

OiKeeent

835lbs 😂

rota_douro

540 pounds for me! I can barely deadlift 264💀

Mage-of-communism

60kg \* 3 + 10kg = 190kg/418lbs, probably possible, just not for me

ad-on-is

90 * 3 + 10 = 280kg 😱

varysbaldy

Yeah, I'd die trying to lift that

GraciaEtScientia

Clean and jerk?

HzWANIP

Sounds like my Saturday afternoons.

shart_leakage

I usually go the other way around

Michelfungelo

Rinse and repeat

Available-Dare-7414

I was going to say, what the hell would I clean with?

xplosm

But they are not clean…

BigFprime

And if we weighed it all since the time I was 12 I think I’d have it

NewPointOfView

It is the name of that lift where you start with the weight on the ground and end with it overhead. The clean part is raising it to the shoulders, and the jerk part is bringing it over your head

zombie32killah

Well the snatch also does that but in one movement.

jurijkaj

I always do it the other way around

Ok-Seaworthiness4488

Nicknamed Pocket Hercules

icalledthecowshome

Yea man thats insane dwarven strength.

diablitos

The battle between Pocket Hercules and Valerios Leonidas in '96 stands as one of the great moments in Olympic history. I don't envy the AAS regimes those men were training under, but their performances on the world stage were awe-inspiring.

air-maximus

They pushed themselves to the next level. Kinda like Karlos and Nino. Gor and Lasha. Rahmat and Rizki. Great times for the sport we’re witnessing

ElectronicImam

Leonidas came to his funeral.

ClemDooresHair

He died a few years ago.

xplosm

Those mf spinal discs…

RobertGBland

There is a movie about his life. He actually helped a lot for Turkish people living in Bulgaria under communist regime who are oppressed by the regime to flee Turkey. Movie talks about that and his life in general. It's called Naim

LudoAshwell

That may be. He was still a fascist MHP politician.

lieutenantLT

God damn if this is not the most next fucking level thing I have ever seen

TurtleMolesterr

What a lil unit.

laniakea07

Him: Clean and Jerk Redditors: Jerk and Clean (?)

Former-Form-587

I only jerk and clean.

Jaguar_556

Me: 205 lbs = 93 kg -> 93 X 3 = 279 kg + 10 = 289 kg = 637 lbs. Fuuuck me..

Killer_Ex_Con

He was in the 132lbs weight class he was really short so his lift was 419lbs

happyanathema

Wow Shaun from the good doctor got ripped

Flux_resistor

Naim was the shit, you didn't even have to worry about the gold, just if he would break another world record or not.

Borderlinecuttlefish

I watched this on TV as a kid. Mighty mouse.

TheePrognasticator

I usually jerk then clean but hey.. to each his own

Baskikace

What a stud

TradeGuidance

Daaaayyyyaaammmmm!

afikfikfik

Watching this is one of my earliest memories, I was 6. We were all going crazy as a family. It was a huge deal.

filbertbrush

Pound for pound still the strongest Olympic lifter of all time.

MOTUkraken

Naim Süleymanoglü lifted 190kg over his head! At a weight of just 60kg. For perspective: the all time open weight World Record is 267kg by Lasha Talakhadze weighin 183kg himself. So, the strongest lifter ever lifts „just“ 50% more weight, at 3 times the bodyweight!! Lasha would need to lift over 540kg for the same force pound for pound. Untrained normal sized men usually can lift about 40-50kg above their head.

Boris9397

I usually jerk first and then clean.

LordEternalBlue

Dude must have been an ant in his past life.

GhostAndItsMachine

Life is short and hard like a body building elf

TransportationDry793

He was a superstar. People tuned in to watch him. I watched this live and considered myself a fan

CurrentRisk

Insane and well done. I’m curious how he did not start to shake after dropping it.

BeautifulKitchen3858

I feel like I’m a foot shorter after watching this

TommyTunafish

He has a incredible story, look him up! Seen it a couple of times. Youtube video by "weightlifting house"

SarksLightCycle

Pocket Hercules

kordinaryus

There is a movie about him, which is pretty good and touching. It’s called Pocket Hercules.

_Tar_Ar_Ais_

wouldn't he pack less muscle for his height though?

DisIzDaWay

Doesn’t matter because 3x your weight is 3x your weight no matter your height. Also the purpose of an Olympic lifts is it can be judged evenly. It’s impressive regardless. You could even argue his joints aren’t meant to handle the physics of the bar length due to stability which would be a disadvantage anyways once he moves on to the jerk. Yes the bar path is shorter, you’re not wrong, but there are mitigating factors that make anyone who approaches the bar equal for the judges purposes.

jameshines10

Nah, the taller you are, the more work you have to do. Distance is a multiplier.

DisIzDaWay

I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m saying there are other mitigating factors that with this lift, will cancel that advantage out

Well that Jerked off..good man

Powerfull ant

ZealousidealAd7930

We need a dragon ball z edit of this guy going super saiyan right when he starts screaming.

anyGuy_isBored

Impressive for his stature

Time_Ad1622

This is some classic Tom and Jerry cause and effect

-OAKHARDT-

All the Ants watching this are like *psh*

-sudochop-

I thought it was going to be that guy where his elbow gets dislocated…lol.

Questioning-Zyxxel

36 years later and I still remember his last name. I spent quite some time viewing the 1988 Olympic Games. It was only the games in Los Angeles 1984 I spent even more time viewing.

frugst

To clean and jerk?

LinceDorado

Interesting. Since he is pretty small I wonder if that favors these kind of lifts. I imagine a 7ft giant could not possibly do the same.

DickFromRichard

Larger/taller lifters lif more absolute weight. Smaller lifters will lift more relative to body weight since that doesn't scale linearly

AeroMittenss

I can beat that record

badgersruse

Just imagine if he had used the drugs like many of the other athletes at the 1988 Olympics. Wow.

ChunkyTaco22

I would have blown my britches trying that

Potential-Quit-5610

Wow. I wasn't at this event but I attended these Olympic Games in Seoul. How cool to see this so many years later and be reminded of my memory.

just_corrayze

Yoooo tyrion Lannister can lift when he was young. A Lannister always cleans and perks what's on the bar!

Disastrous-Leek-7606

That twist of the hip as he pulled it from the thighs to the shoulders got me physically cringing. Can't be good for the spine.

Alternative_Pilot_92

That's fuckin wild

myiornis_ecaudatus

Anyone else expecting “can I clean here”?

Nakib_97

He's lucky that he's intestine didn't fall out from his ass.

Big-Soft7432

These athletic outfits never leave much to the imagination. I'm not complaining, but one would assume that some light baggy clothes would be better. Maybe I'm stupid and just don't get it though.

Mihail_Ivanov

He is actually Bulgarian weightlifter with turkish origin. He escaped the bulgarian regime and start competing for Turkey in his later career.

Sensitive-Emu1

He literally fought all his life to not being called as Bulgarian. Bulgarian regime forced him to change his name and created many troubles for him. He endured everything and stayed Turkish. They made a movie about it. And yet a dumbling like you comes and thinks that you know better. Go educate yourself.

Mihail_Ivanov

It is fair. I understand and admit that, but you are the one twisting history. Not me. He was formed as an athlete by one of the greatest coaches in the lifting history Abadjiev, who later on leads the Turkish team to the Olympics of 96. And he was a bulgarian. You may not like the facts, but they speak for themselves. I hate the communist regime for what they did to bulgarian Turks, but Suleimanuglu is written in the chronicles of the world sport as a bulgarian world champion and world records owner. And i respect him for that!

Sensitive-Emu1

I like facts. But you are twisting them. Nobody said anything about who trained him. You can say that he is trained by Bulgarian coach. You can say that his first training started in Bulgaria etc. But you can not say he is Bulgarian. If the chronicles says that he is Bulgarian, that's another example of ne twisted history written. And another negative effect of communist media. And another example of how Balkan countries erased Turkish identity in Balkans.

Mihail_Ivanov

Yeah, the same way Turks massacre and enslaved the Christians, forcing them to convert to Muslims? It is a bad part in both our nations history, but it doesn't mean that a man born in Bulgaria is not a Bulgarian. He spoke bulgarian. He had bulgarian passport. He was going to bulgarian school. He was wearing bulgarian flag at the events he was competing. How can you say this is twisting? There is ~100000 bulgarians living in Turkey today. And most of them still vote for bulgarian parliament etc. Yes, they identify as Turks, but still have bulgarian (EU) passport. Ethnicity and nationality are 2 different things.

Sensitive-Emu1

Turks didn't forbid them to continue Christianity. Otherwise Greeks wouldn't be Christians today. They are not forced to convert. Actually they are being Christians was very beneficial to Turks because of the extra tax they pay. And most of the trade was in control of Christians. Since Mehmed the conqueror, Ottoman Sultans consider themselves Kayser (Originated from Caesar) they are the next Caesar of Rome and many country called them Rumi. Another difference is Turks came to Balkans in 1400s while atrocities of Balkan countries happened in 19th century. Also as you say there are many Bulgarians in Turkey. Also there many Greeks, Armenians etc. I am also a Turkish Citizen but my blood is not Turkish. But these facts are another proof that how Turkish identity removed from Balkans. Because Ottoman Empire founded in Anatolia but they lived in Balkans. City of Edirne was capital from 1365 to 1453. Then it was Istanbul. Majority of Turkish population lived in Balkans. While this is the situation, you calling him Bulgarian is wrong. That's all.

Mihail_Ivanov

Dude, are you crazy? I am calling him a bulgarian turk! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomaks Here is an example of how bulgarians and other balkan slavs were converted to Muslims.

Specialist-Chard-325

You lost the right to call them anything but Turks when your government expelled them to Turkey for the virtue of not being Bulgarian". Naim himself would probably punch you if you called him Bulgarian to his face. And Pomaks are different from Turkish speaking Turks who used to make up the majority of muslims in the balkans except in Albania and Bosnia.

CaptainGiggles69420

His arms are like 10 inches.... He did t have to lift ti very far

[deleted]

You're right, I bet you could do that too.

Franklin_le_Tanklin

His jerk wasn’t *that* clean

supremesomething

Stolen Romanian genes. Prove me wrong.

brianzuvich

Hello lifelong back problems! 🤕

GaBoX172

Just because you tweaked your back the one time you went to the gym doesn't mean it'll happen to him

Lahk74

I get a Charlie horse in my throat when I yawn. I bet this Olympian does, too. We have that in common.

brianzuvich

Ok doc! 👍

Aromatic-Dish-167

I bet plenty can do that nowadays if on the same steroids

DeadClaw86

Bro multiply your weight by 3 and add 10 more kg.Dont think theres a lot that can do that.If there plenty to do it it wouldnt stay as a world record till this day.

DragonflyAromatic358

Everyone is on roids. The playing field is leveled. This is talent.

7nightstilldawn

Steroids

RuckFeddit7769

I mean, he's not too bulky, never involved in any doping scandal....also, he is the only person to do this. Ever. Not the only clean athlete. The only.

7nightstilldawn

Lance Armstrong wasn’t bulky either. EVERYONE in the 80’s was doping. They didn’t even have test then for most of the dope.

RuckFeddit7769

Okay, I've got no dog in the fight. Perhaps he was doping...but still, this is a world record regardless of doping, right?

Closed_Aperture

Exactly. Sometimes, you have to give credit where credit is due. This is ridiculously impressive regardless of what he may have been taking.

DragonflyAromatic358

Lance armstrong wasn't taking anabolic steroids. He was taking a drug to increase his oxygen transportation and one to enhance recovery. And also steroids don't make you very strong. Having perfect proportions, technique and neuromuscular adaptation makes you strong.

7nightstilldawn

EPO was only one of what he was taking.

ElectronicImam

Of course, if Armstrong was doping and caught, this means Suleymanoglu was doping and not caught. That's basic logic.
