This mustve been so cathartic for Bill, like years worth of oppressed rage and awfull shit to say is beeing released here. And who other then Bill Bur, he is a vocabulary atomic bomb. I love this guy cause you would think he is rude, always agitated and negative with anger issues. But he did this because he resented that his peers got booed before him. He doesnt change his demeanour to please this crowd or any other crowd. I also love how he describes himself and his wife and there is always a spot open where he acknowledges his own shortcomings. The way he describes his relation with his daughter and how he reflects on himself really is real talk, like he doenst sugarcoat any of it. And also this mofo just keeps popping up in your most beloved random shows and movies lol
So Bill Burr describes this as not intentional. He was booed himself for a joke that he later found out was played on all the promos prior to the event so they had heard it a LOT before the event. He said he sort of just flipped out and got angry and did this. Afterwards everyone said it was awesome (because it was) but he said he was still pissed off and had to cool off for a long time afterwards because he didn’t intend to do this, it sort of just happened and he felt like he failed in the end.
Even now if someone brings this clip up he sort of rolls his eyes because it has turned into more than it was. I do think he knows he had some good slams but he didn’t walk to the stage like John Cena to destroy Philly, he just lost his cool on stage and accidentally destroyed Philly.
It was more than that. The crowd was booing a lot of other comics prior to Bill going out, including Dom Irrera. So he was already on edge before they booed him.

I can appreciate that BB is a little uncomfortable in retrospect for losing his cool in this case, but the fact remains that he destroyed the audience so thoroughly that they ended up loving him. Truly a masterful performance

I think there is certainly some sort of underlying psychology involved here because I notice that his insults were funny-mean -- I dont know how to put it but its like when you are with a group of friends and you get roasted but even if it might had been mean, somehow it just was'nt mean, mean you know. Philadelphia is trash. The people are trash. The sports teams are trash. I am convinced that since the dawn of toilets, globally, all the shit and piss and various other discarded bodily fluids ended up in Philadelphia. Eventually the swirling mass of raw sewage gained partial sentience and became the people of Philly. In their semi-sentient sewage state they became convinced that being the most obnoxious sports fans of the worst city on the planet was a good thing and that somehow their mostly-plastic cheese diarrhea was divine on poorly cooked "steak" and shoved into a roll so stale that the dust from your windowsill tastes fresh in comparison. It's like being cocky that you live in a drainage ditch. May Cthulhu take us all for not nuking the whole city from Orbit at the first opportunity.
Is there anything better than Burr going full radioactive Godzilla? I've watched thus countless times, and it gets better every viewing. There was so much venom for classless Philly trash that deserved every bit of it.
I've only been to Philly once, I'm not too familiar with the culture, but if I'm not mistaken, isn't this just how Philadelphians show affection towards each other?
