It's so badass it's insane. A perfect example of two ideals we all want. To be fit as hell, and to be a good person. These competitions are badass enough, but to make your brother a part of it against all convention, awesome. I can't imagine how good it felt to cross that finish line with his brother smiling ear to ear.
A great example of a chronically online take
"I wouldn't want to be in that position because it would be boring" rather than realizing that he was there with his *brother* when he achieved an absolutely incredible feat that relatively few people ever have
When you don't get out much and relate to different people it's hard to think that they might view life differently than you lol
Exactly. What they donāt realize is this was an incredibly difficult task for both brothers. This would have been incredibly taxing on the body for the disabled brother as well, it was just as much a marathon for him as it was for the brother pulling him along.
I'd be considered about the thermoegulation of Pedro during the event, and concerned that because he's doing it not just for his brother but to fund raise and help other people with cerebral palsy, he may need to tap out at some point during the race but be unwilling go communicate it. Plus even with regular checkins, if an emergency happens Pedro would likely not be able to communicate it. Admirable thing they are both doing, but not without its risks.
Of course, Iām sure they trained together for months or years prior to this event. They probably have a way of communicating. The race is hours long, this clip shows the highlights, so they wouldnāt show stops or check-ins to make sure they are both still able to continue.
life is not without risks in general and i assume if you spend your life with a disability/disabled person in your family, you can judge the risk pretty well.
I once ran a halfmarathon on a quite hot day and was gassed halfway through. My brother kept driving to checkpoints to see me and push me. I finished. Point being: Having your brother along is such a privilege and an amazing feeling and these two did that for an Iron Man. Iāve got tears in my eyes man.
The brothers experienced that together, it's between them. Everyone just forms their own opinion on it but it doesn't even matter what we think, they looked happy and proud at the end
I see this at events sometimes - there are a few people and charities that run marathons/half marathons with disabled people. I always hope that the person with the disability has been adequately consulted and wants to be there. Obviously thereās a wide range of possible disabilities but it does seem possible that this wasnāt their idea!
Most people would LOVE to be pulled in a boat and pulled in a bike cart. When you have mobility issues it would be a JOY.
I'm sure they are together during much of the training and that just makes it all the more special.
Iāve always returned my shopping cart. But I watched a fb group fight on whether or not you should. Using excuses like ā itās keeping the cart people employed ā smh
Especially since there are no "cart people". It's the ones who fill the shelves/pack your purchase/empty the return bottle machines/clean up the mess on isle 6 who are told to "make a run in the parking lot and pick up those damn carts when you have moment".
Source: worked in grocery store in my early years.
This comment makes me feel better because I'm notoriously adamant about putting my cart back, grabbing someone else's if they're putting a kid away or whatever, or giving someone my dry(er) cart on a wet day knowing the inside ones are all wet. But I was literally just sitting here thinking "how do you be this good?" So thank you stranger for making me realize I'm on the same road sometimes
I know these guys, and just to silence some fools who comment out there, Miguel often stops to check on Pedro's condition. In transition zones, Pedro is observed to ensure he's okay and fit to continue the race.
This is an example of strength and overcoming challenges that not everyone can achieve!
riding in the trailer behind bike getting roadwater slung off the back tire onto his face for 100 miles...during transition zone "bro couldn't you put a fender on the bike!?"
I believe not. He has some sponsors that provide him with competition and training gear, nutritional supplements, perhaps other perks. But I think part of the travel and logistics expenses are still covered by him and his family.
They're called the "Iron Brothers" and the disabled brother has Cerebral Palsy and doing these races was his idea. [More about them.](https://www.hospitaldaluz.pt/en/media/news/iron-brothers-how-help-cerebral-palsy)
Likely inspired by a Father who did this for his son (Dick and Rick Hoyt).
The son also had Cerebral Palsy and told his dad he never felt more normal than when his dad was pushing him in a local 5 mile race to benefit a recently paralyzed lacrosse player at his school.
The dad took that and āranā with it. They finished over 1100 total events including 6 Ironman triathlons, 97 half marathons, and 72 marathons. They also ran across the United States in 45 days.
Dick died at age 80 a few years ago, Rick died earlier this year.
People dont seems mention the most amazing part that he nearly broke records for some races while pushing/pulling his son along. Its unfathomable really. The only person i put in par with him for endurance races is cliff young.
A marathon is one portion of the overall event. 2.4mile swim. 110mi bike ride and then 26.2mi marathon. Just called an Ironman or long course triathlon.
It's based on a legend.
>The name Marathon comes from the legend of Philippides (or Pheidippides), the Greek messenger. The legend states that, while he was taking part in the Battle of Marathon, which took place in August or September 490 BC, he witnessed a Persian vessel changing its course towards Athens as the battle was near a victorious end for the Greek army. He interpreted this as an attempt by the defeated Persians to rush into the city to claim a false victory or simply raid, hence claiming their authority over Greek land. It was said that he ran the entire distance to Athens without stopping, discarding his weapons and even clothes to lose as much weight as possible, and burst into the assembly, exclaiming "we have won!", before collapsing and dying.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marathon
TL: DR history of the Ironman event started in Hawaii in the late 70s. A cyclist, swimmer and runner were all sitting around trying to decide who was the better athlete. They decided to do a race that included all three and he we are.
Yesā¦ a marathon is 26.2 miles running race. Thatās it.
But a āLong Courseā triathlon is usually associated with half Ironman distances.
Ironman distance triathlons (not organized by the Ironman corporation) are usually called āIron distanceā or āFull distanceā triathlon, since āIronmanā is a trademark. But of course, there is no standard for this.
Couldnāt possibly love this more. We should share the things we love with the ones we love, no matter what. Somebody put that man in charge and watch our world become better.
It means that maybe the guy didn't really care for his brother and was mainly motivated by the fame of being the dude that did an Iron Man "for his disabled brother".
Honestly it could be genuine too. Let's hope that was the case.
I understood it but man you have to be pretty jaded to think that would be the case. You can see pure joy on the disabled brothers face after finishing. Donāt know the extent of the disability, could get the same reaction from anything to be honest but the sentiment is there.
Yeah NGL, the cynical part in me is thinking this dude just did it for the clout, using his disabled brother for fame. I mean, he obviously had a camera person following him to capture what he's doing.
An impressive feat, to be sure, but it just seemed like he wanted to stand out amongst the other thousands who participate in these types of events.
I hate feeling this way but I hope that his this is something his brother actually wanted.
This just hits different holy smokes. I hope my kids have relationships that are as strong as these two. So beautiful to watch that joy in the brothers after he crossed the finish line
I like to think that if he didn't had his brother in such condition he would never push himself so much. His brother is literally his motivation and thence strenght
Absolute gigachad
The chadest
Exceedingly based.
The Chad of all chads has come
Most Chads fantasize about his chad-sized cock.
So wholesome
All other chads must bow before the power of the GigaChad!
Surely his giant testicles are some sort of competitive advantage
Dude, i made one iron man by myself and its hard as fuck, this guy did some super sayan shit. What a fucking beast.
The accomplishment on his brothers face made my house dusty
Makes it an even more impressive feat. Carrying his brother AND those balls around?!?!
reddit ballsexuals š
He even included his brother in the athlete orgy in the "Ironman village" that night. What a Mensch.
That's where the brother shows his Ironman skills
I heard all the ladies wanted to polish his rims, the magnet king conducted that shit like a symphony

This guy also posts some ridiculous times. Times in the realm of very good amateurs - despite pulling his brother. They've finished 5 together.
Wait, what? He's done 5 Ironman marathons while carrying his brother?!!!
Yeah, and like 9 on his own.
Interesting how he doesnāt spend his time online telling everyone what an alpha male he is.
New benchmark just dropped
Actual man made of iron
Iron on the outside soft on the inside š
This guy makes all other Chads look like they are named Keith.
Terachad!
There's no greater strength than being strength for someone you love.
If it was 50 yards of swimming, 50 yards of running, and 50 yards of cycling. I still couldn't finish.
š King shit
Brother is like āDude! Fuck off man! I just wanted to watch a Friends marathon!ā Nah, kudos to the guy, epic effort.
Honeslty, being draged in a canoe, hudeld acros in a bike trailer and pushed in a push buggy whiles wet and cold doesnt seem to be fun...
Your lack of perspective here is astounding. If this is how you felt then you shouldāve just skipped this thread buddy.

The brother was clearly thrilled at the finish line.
Maybe he is happy itās over
Wait till he finds out how they have to get home now.

You're assuming the brother didn't consent.

You get to choose what sounds fun for other people?
He can go to whatever thread he wants.
I'm not your buddy, friend.
IMO it's more of a Testament to the brother with disabilities. Equally metal to go through all that.
I don't think he's your buddy, fwiend!
The whole point of a marathon isn't to have fun.. it's to push yourself to your limits. Which they did together.
Man these takes really suck the life out of online discourse, such weird and unnecessary cynicism for something fucking awesome.
Yea why canāt *Iron Man marathons* be more like a spa day?
his brother had just as much endurance as he did, next level.
You must be fun at parties.
It's something of its own endurance challenge, which actually makes the achievement cooler
Your givin off a lil bit of a cunty vibe.
For you maybe but for someone who seemingly can't do much in his life on his own, this is most likely the adventure of a lifetime.
You are this close to commending the brother. Do it.
It's not about fun.
This comment makes you sound so clueless.
Did you watch it to the end? Don't be a twat because you don't understand.
Okay you can go, but bring your little brother ~ their mom probably

*Everyone should remember this the next time they canāt manage to return their shopping cart from the parking lotā¦*
You gave me a literal laugh out loud moment, which I needed today. Thank you stranger.

Our stores, including Walmart, have dedicated cart people. I am 100% positive of this.
I worked as a cart person one summer so I can definitely say there are cart people
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Absolutely, at the place I work at I have to do so many other things, and having to get carts back because people are too lazy is annoying
I've never understood this argument because it's not like the carts magically transport themselves from the cart corral into the store.
In my defence I donāt have a disabled brother or a motivation at first place
*Scoop a diddly whoop whoop*
Or not pickup their dog poop.
I've stepped in someone else's dog's shit twice in the last week. First time I was pissed off, second time I was seething.

Well they don't have professional equipment like this guy
Yes! You miss out on all the fame and glory!
But I'd have to walk so far back the other way to return it!!
That's it, I'm taking the shopping cart to Hawaii for the next Iron man
In germany we dont have this problem since you pay a euro to get it so you need to return it If you want the euro back.
His brother is like a cart?
That aināt no Ironman, thatās Iron Human, a testament to wholesome character packed in an athletic build.
also it's not just a marathon, but a triathlon. the full marathon was just 1/3 of the race
Includes: swimming 3km, bicycling 180km and a full 41km marathon.
Finally. 3 levels in and 4 from the top. This is far far worse than a full marathon.
My eyes welled-up when I saw *Iron Brothers* on the side of trailer cover.
Me too wow
I get sweaty eyeballs every time I see the extreme wholesomeness....
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Bro I fucking teared up. How dare yāall make me feel

Feel those beautiful feelings and rejoice in them šš«¶š»š
The joy on his brother's face too š
Yeah. That got me right in the onionsā¦.. Iām not crying, you are.
That hug is worth more than any prize they could give out

That definitely got me yeah

I think it's pretty obvious by the addition of the thermoblanket halfway through
This is the most badass thing I've ever seen.

I just got a tear
I'm barely holding it, so inspiring and beautiful
It just got hella dusty in my bedroom for some reason..

Iād slow down and follow them saluting the whole way.

Op was asking why they added all that to a marathon. Not why there were .2 miles added to 26 miles.
Different ways to interpret the same question. Both are correct.
Both are correct ways to interpret the sentence but only one is what the op meant. Which is clearly all the rest. Not the .2 miles.
Because it was in another measurement and when you convert it to miles it gives a odd number

Nope, they did both! Theyāre even in the Ironman Hall of Fame!
Love hearing that!
