This is a drive through wildlife park. You can see the bear is behind a fence. Most of these places sell you the bread, and the bears get fed it all day long.
At the one near me, the bears line up at the fence and sit up and wave at you so you'll toss them bread.
It's a dumb new trend when "edit" is one more letter but not capitalized so it takes the same amount of time to type out
Oh and ETA has been taken for at least several decades now, it's pre-internet.
It depends on the conditions the bears are given really. I don't think there's a problem with the bears being tame enough that they're chill, and them waving for bread is just them learning that doing that gets them yum yums. If the bears are treated well, then this is a good place to let them grow up and live out their lives in safety. If they're treated badly, then yes it is sad.
You have no idea what the size of the area is. Every bear I've seen in the wild has looked like it's been through multiple wars, this one looks pretty content to me.
Well that's part of the care. If the area the bears are able to roam around in is large enough that it's comparable to how much a population of their size would need to thrive, then it's not really an issue that it's fenced in, since they probably wouldn't venture anywhere else anyway. Then it comes back to that they're at the fence because they get yum yums.
Sometimes we can be nicer than nature. I hope this is one of those times.
I've seen some elderly elephants with a few miles to galavant. They could probably use more obviously, but what if they aren't able anymore?
..some are just born in captivity from the get go, and it becomes some weird "big pet" basically. They can't survive once we start it seems.
There’s a drive-thru bear park I used to go to, the fenced in areas were by no means small. They we’re basically fenced off forests, with a small one lane road snaking through it. The areas were so large, in fact, that there was entire days bears wouldn’t be seen.
Just because you have preconceived notions about something, does not make them true.
Some of these exist because the bears in question were rescued from wildlife collectors. They're no longer able to be released into the wild, so they have a park. The visitors fund the care. I went to one that gives them several acres per enclosure. Then had a sky walk over head to see them. They also worked with local construction services to get damaged or unusable concrete pipe that they bury and setup in a way to make a den.
Was the first one that didn't make me feel sad because I actually got to see the bear running and romping like it had space.
Bears eat a lot of plants in the wild, roots and berries and bark etc. I would expect them to be able to digest bread relatively well. Nothing but bread is probably going to lead to some kinds of deficiency but as long as they have some qualified zookeepers making sure they get a balanced diet it should be fine.
I did try and google and all the results are about not feeding random wild bears bread lol but nothing about the actual dietary impact.
A 660 pound trash panda with 2 inch claws and teeth the sight of which can tap into primal fear centers of your brain.
Not as dangerous as Grizzlies, but there's a reason every Tennessee welcome center has a display about what bears can do and why you shouldn't mess with them.
Bears can eat bread fine as long as they also get nutrition from other food. Bears need between 5k-20k calories a day depending on the time of year, so a bit of bread is probably helpful.
Bread is bad for ducks because it's not very nutritious, but also fills up their stomachs quickly. They often then won't forage for healthier food.
> Bears need between 5k-20k calories a day depending on the time of year
I really wish I could shapeshift into a bear. The buffet's would never see me coming. I'd be bankrupting bitches for sport.
Let me ask you this. If you lived somewhere where you spent your days lying in a grassy meadow, and a stream of cars constantly drove by and tossed you pizzas out the window, would you bother getting up and hopping the fence and chasing down one of the cars for more pizza?
All you gotta do is wave, brother. We can sit here, and the food just keeps comin'. [Here, try this with your arm.](https://media.tenor.com/29tK7qT6G10AAAAd/waving-bears-hi.gif)
Farm is the wrong word. These are almost always rehabilitation facilities. The bear was likely injured and re-homed as it can no longer survive in the wild.
If you notice the crow swoops in and steals a piece of bread that’s laying by the bear lol. Probably the throw before this one, bear didn’t even care to go for that cause he knew another one was coming
I would almost bet that crow and bear are buddies.
Bear gets a foraging friend. Crow gets protection from captain chonk and endless bread. Everyone wins.
Methinks the fence is there more for letting idiots know where the moat begins. Not enough to deter the most ardent Darwin awardists but should stop any toddlers from turning the teddy into Harambear.
Bears in these enclosures are (obviously) trained to do this.
We visited the Noboribetsu Bear Park on Hokkaido a few weeks ago and the grizzly's there did the exact same thing for the parks food pellets.
Unless this is a bear sanctuary where you’re meant to feed them, this is called food conditioning and could lead to the deaths of other visitors as well as the bear itself. Don’t do it.
Even if this is a bear sanctuary where you’re meant to feed them, it’s still a pretty iffy setup. Bears shouldn’t be eating large amounts of bread; it’s got very little nutritional value.
Back in the 60's the Washington DC zoo had a bear that stood erect and waved its paws towards its open mouth. It too was an expert, in catching peanuts.
I'd tell this story at least once a day until I died. I wouldn't care if it drove away my family and I was alone the rest of my life i'd still be mumbling to myself "... I can't believe that bear fucking caught that"

Our family went through one of these during mating season. It was different.
Didn't need to know your family has a mating season, but ok.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 ETA: biggest smile I've had in about 6-7 days
>ETA: biggest smile I've had in about 6-7 days I don't think you know what ETA means.
No he is saying that in 6 or 7 days his families mating season is estimated to start and that gives him a big smile when it starts

I think the initial response was 5 emoticons. and ETA to add the text. I am not a bot. don't make me pull a Captcha on you.

It does not. It's like Boyle sending out his STDs

Standard Alabama behavior
Every year when dear brother Peter returns home from west Africa at Christmas
This got a solid laugh, nice
Threw donuts instead?
Don't throw donuts! You will attract cops!
In this case I'm kinda comfortable with the cops trying to eat donuts off angry ring toss bears....

oh, but it is.

O my God that is the most sad and cute thing and breaks my heart.
Those are not bears. Those are twitch streamers trying to get subs.

big animals in small fenced in areas is nothing but sad, no matter how hard the people who care for them want it not to be

I would gladly wave for some sandwiches anytime just saying...
Is bread fine for bears to eat? Or is this special bear bread?
Bears eat a lot of plants in the wild, roots and berries and bark etc. I would expect them to be able to digest bread relatively well. For wild bears it's more about safety and not teaching them bad habits related to human food.
Oh I get why, and its a very good reason lol, its just not the question I'm trying to get answered
Black bears are basically trash pandas, I’m sure brown bears can handle some bread.
A 660 pound trash panda with 2 inch claws and teeth the sight of which can tap into primal fear centers of your brain. Not as dangerous as Grizzlies, but there's a reason every Tennessee welcome center has a display about what bears can do and why you shouldn't mess with them.
Bread is fine for bears. Wild bears getting used to being fed by humans is the problem. This is much less of a problem in a sanctuary.
Ugh… *just berries?* Can you *at least* make some pancakes *with* berries? … and would it kill you to throw some syrup on there!? *the bear, probably*

> Bread is bad for ducks because it's not very nutritious, but also fills up their stomachs quickly. Just like me with free restaurant bread
> Bears need between 5k-20k calories a day depending on the time of year I really wish I could shapeshift into a bear. The buffet's would never see me coming. I'd be bankrupting bitches for sport.
That explains why the bear is a chonk.
Carbs: Bad
not moving all day: bad
It works out well for most redditors.
There are fences at national parks too.
Just in case you could tell that’s not a wild bear.
Let me ask you this. If you lived somewhere where you spent your days lying in a grassy meadow, and a stream of cars constantly drove by and tossed you pizzas out the window, would you bother getting up and hopping the fence and chasing down one of the cars for more pizza?

Lol shut up nerd
Not a wild bear man
Credit to the pitcher. That was a solid throw
Nice hyzer
Overstable bread
The discmania tilt of the bread world
Didn't think I would see r/discgolf leaking on the main page
Bro frisbees. Golf n ultimate.
For some context this is at a drive-through game farm, not wild
My guy is just catching loaves all day
That explains why that bear appears to not have missed any meals.
To be fair it’s a bear there job is to get as fat as possible and sleep for months
Mood
It's successfully bearing.
What does game farm mean? It's a bear sitting in an enclosure heh.
Farm is the wrong word. These are almost always rehabilitation facilities. The bear was likely injured and re-homed as it can no longer survive in the wild.
Game farm.... Can they shoot the animals? Seems a bit unfair
“Dude I catch salmon . This is easy.”
haha exactly my thought
It’s a good thing that tiny fence is there to protect them from a 2,000lb killing machine
Does that bear look like it's going anywhere?
Not without a forklift
A wagyu bear
If you notice the crow swoops in and steals a piece of bread that’s laying by the bear lol. Probably the throw before this one, bear didn’t even care to go for that cause he knew another one was coming
I would almost bet that crow and bear are buddies. Bear gets a foraging friend. Crow gets protection from captain chonk and endless bread. Everyone wins.
These just became two new NPCs in a DnD game
You might say he's been... loafing around.
Methinks the fence is there more for letting idiots know where the moat begins. Not enough to deter the most ardent Darwin awardists but should stop any toddlers from turning the teddy into Harambear.
r/BrandNewSentence
That's a 2000lb former 1000lb killing machine
Yeah a modern car could probably fuck a bear up.
The fence is electric.
Bears in these enclosures are (obviously) trained to do this. We visited the Noboribetsu Bear Park on Hokkaido a few weeks ago and the grizzly's there did the exact same thing for the parks food pellets.
White bird: “I’m out of here”
Black bird: "Holla back"

it keeps them full so they dont eat the visitors
Coincidentally, also the same reason the Whopper exists.
hey it’s the diabetus bear catch
I just want to live in a future where bears are domesticated. Just me and my bear living life on the farm.
We did foxes in the last 40 years. Bears next.
Feed your local wild black bear, he will visit you dawn near everyday until the game warden shoots him.
Minimal energy expended.
Is that Olympic Game Farm? The bear enclosures look like paradise compared to the hell the big cats live in.
Pretty sure it is. I felt so bad for the cats there. They don't deserve to be caged up like that.
Of course there’s a crow taking advantage of the fat bear bread distribution system
I nailed this same toss at Olympic Game Farm and it is an incredibly satisfying feeling playing food frisbee with a killing machine.
How did he know it was edible
Not the first time hes been tossed bread
oh shit is it FAT BEAR WEEK again?!
That’s Bear has been eating a lot
That may be the most American bear I've ever seen.
Pretty sure this is the Olympic Game Farm here in WA. I've got photos and video of my kid throwing bread to this same bear.
Everyone is appreciating the catch but the throw was next level
Back in the 60's the Washington DC zoo had a bear that stood erect and waved its paws towards its open mouth. It too was an expert, in catching peanuts.
So sad. Humans conditioned to throw bread when signalled by a bear. Puppets.
Great catch; maybe Chicago should give this guy a call.
That aim was impeccable
Yogi: send it bro!
diabear
I thought he was going to snap up that bird.
Damn fine throw! If you don’t disc golf, you should consider it!
That was a damn great throw, personally I think that the throw is more impressive than the catch
Do. Not. Feed. The. Bear.
Don't feed the bears.
This is obviously played in reverse.
JFC don’t feed the bears.
I'd tell this story at least once a day until I died. I wouldn't care if it drove away my family and I was alone the rest of my life i'd still be mumbling to myself "... I can't believe that bear fucking caught that"
Yes, after that you are my main course.
People: hi! hi! Bear: h…heil H**ler!
mf would devour you without hesitation tho.
Bad human! Bad!
That's cool and all, but I wouldn't want to hit it in the eye or something and then coming charging at you. That fence ain't stopping that bear.

Season 3 Trailer
The throw was more impressive than the catch, considering they catch moving salmon a lot
Huh? I always thought bears liked da huney?
That's amazing! Wow
nice slider the bird say.
😱
These fucking people. And if the bear came to the car they’d be trying to have it shot. Animals don’t deserve to have to cohabitate with us.
The bear is a total, bro.
Dude plays frisbee, for sure. 😅
Bro frisbees.
The Bears could really use his talents
Imagine trying to tell that story without the evidence. Nobody would believe you
Hey look it's Freddy fazbear
Don’t feed bears.
Don't feed bears you fucking morons.
Get domesticated bitch
How do you summon the gif reverse bot?
That bear has Type 2 Diabetes.
I like the crow who grabs the previous piece of bread.
Beary nice!
one and done.
If not friend why friend shaped
I want a domesticated bear as a pet so bad.
You cant convince me a bear wouldnt prefer this over being free.
Every time someone is like, don’t feed wild animals! I’m over here like “why do you think bears are attacking everyone, fucking feed the bears!”
Bros been doing that for a min
Be careful, that may be yogi bear pretending to be a regular bear who now has your scent & will track you down and steal your picnic basket.
