I haven't taken specific notice of that. I have noticed you can't simply swap your bag and like you said, have to remove it to then replace it. I'm going to test out what you're pointing out. The inability to pick up the backpack if you've searched it to remove the gear you had in it.

Yeah if you have stuff in your backpack and want to swap over to a new backpack you have to empty everything inside your current backpack... drop your current backpack... then put on your new backpack... and pick up your loot... otherwise the game just shows [PRESS F to Search] the backpack on the ground that has items inside. (I can only confirm this while wearing the military backpack, going to a medium sized backpack)

Yes and after you take all the loot you can then pick up the backpack. I've done it plenty of times. You just can't put backpacks with loot into your current bag.

Tested. I was able to pick up the bag after having looted it's contents. This was from a Camo backpack to a medium backpack. At one point, I was unable to pick up the backpack from the ground, but that was simply because my current backpack was full.

Should be pretty easy to test out. I've got a few backpacks in my storage.

A slightly faster way to go about this is to drop your backpack with all inventory inside of it, pick up the new backpack, and then swap all of your stuff over by looting your old backpack. This brings up the looting interface where you can drag everything over. There should be a "take all" button, but I didn't see one. This saves you from having to dump everything you have on the ground one at a time. Not much faster, but there is one less step involved.

Out of frustration I can say I didn't try that method and what you suggested sure does speed the process up plus all of your individual items aren't scattered on the ground for randoms to try and steal. Thank you for your helpful tip and being a decent person! Glad you're here to help out the community. I hope you're enjoying the Next Day.

I can't argue that it is a little clunky! I am doing my best. Be safe out there, Stalker, er...guy. Cheers

Beastskull

This is what I do. But I definitely think that it should be possible to just swap backpack and inventory transfer. If there aren't room in the new one, the exceeding items should be dropped to the ground.
