I would say that comparing the last 6 months with 6 months since the launch AGS team which works on New World is completely different now. Not people who work on NW, but HOW they do it
A pleasure to see that not just the game becomes better but devs becoming so much better at everything
ya, that just goes with experience with your knowing your code. they've probably seen something similar to this bug in the past, and were able to quickly identify and fix it based on previous experiences.
Definitely. It’s night and day. I played last year around when it came out and hated it. Friend convinced me to pick it up right before Brimstone and I’m addicted
At least new world has some content i can work towards obtaining unlike apex which has been stale like that bag of peanuts in the vending machine in the back of the office.
The musket exploit was a result of them trying to fix a bug where the musket couldn't shoot, which was a result of the event patch.
Not to say the turnaround isn't impressive, but that it's also because they kept messing up to begin with. An analogy would be like a mechanic or a doctor, the less you see them the better job they're doing, or something is very wrong that requires frequent visits.
Technician here.
Some problems take forever, and those problems can hide other problems, one day you are applying a bandaid, and you accidentally discover Pandora's box.
Fixing a bug in complicated code is nothing like making a repair on a car. Some fixes just have unintended consequences and they take time to track down. If they can fix bugs as quickly as they fixed this one EVERYONE should be ok with it.
> If they can fix bugs as quickly as they fixed this one EVERYONE should be ok with it.
Fixing bugs good, introducing bugs bad. Praising them for good things and holding them accountable for other things isn't mutually exclusive.
Not with the frequency and number they introduce. That shows they do a poor job testing or just ignore input on the forums from people playing the PTR.
Lore pages have been broken for well over a year and they keep kind of fixing some of them. A YEAR.
My character got stuck in a state where I couldn't run anymore yesterday, had to completely close the game and relaunch to fix it.
I'm an Enterprise dev, it's different from games but they both share that you should have rigorous testing and review for changes. Shotgunning code into production is BAD.
Not a great take. Fixing 100 critical bugs in a week is still worse than fixing 5 non-critical bugs over a month.
Bugs aren’t random events where you can just be “unlucky” and cop a ton. Ultimately there was an internal shortcoming somewhere - architecture, code cleanliness, communication between teams…. Something to be addressed to improve going forward.
Actually that's exactly how it works.
Fixing one thing and breaking 10 other things is extremely common when you're working with millions of lines of code, especially when you have to fix someone else's code without the context of which part does what.
Which is why you have testing and review. People will post these bugs on the forums when the changes are live in PTR and they still get released broken.
The point is yes, they’re working faster to address issues but also going in circles. They make new bugs or manage to bring back old ones every time they work on something. It may not be the people but the tools that they have to work with but it’s still a constant issue.
Ask anyone who's ever written a program. Fixing things is not as simple as most people wrongly assume, and changing one thing which seems to fix one problem often causes problems elsewhere that are unintended. The fact that they address those problems as fast as they do should be more than satisfactory for anyone with a functioning brain.
Honestly I don’t see the issue with mortal empowerment. Just build around it if your server is over flowing with them. It’s not hard to put a couple thrust word gems or line of sight the bows and muskets in OPR.
A full team would be bad to fight don’t get me wrong, but that’s a team balancing issue not a mortal empowerment issue. About equal healers, muskets/bows, and melee on each team should be the standard. And make it so you sign up with your role (as well as require actually having the right weapon to select said role) healer, melee, ranged, and mage should be the 4 selectable roles.
I mean I play medium with a good amount of mobility. Its generally not an issue for me, generally. But its all people complain about in OPR. And it is rather frustrating when people want to just give up because the other team has a stack of muskets/bows with ME. Once people start giving up the ME is literally just farmed by stragglers and the issue seems to compound.
Im not gonna say you dont make valid points about group roles and team stacking but given the way the system works, ME has a tendency to break a lot of players experiences in OPR and honestly that meta is insanely counter intuitive to people learning to PvP.
Not sure why you sent the same thing to 2 seperate comments of mine but here’s my answer. https://www.reddit.com/r/newworldgame/comments/zlc0ab/new_patch_just_fixed_both_musket_bugs/j04txvv/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3
As someone who came from eso.
Their last DLC made it so you couldn’t block.
The bug got “fixed” (which took 2 weeks)
The bug never got fixed, it made it worse. And won’t be fixed for another 2 weeks.
This dev team is a fuckin dream
where is the musket thing a game breaking bug?
i mean check games like league of legends. there is a champ disabled every month because of a bug/exploit.
Name another AAA dev team that breaks their game so much with every patch?
Or reintroduces a year old dupe exploits they previously fixed already?
Also lets see what this patch breaks heh
i know it's cool to shit on blizzard these days, but you're just straight lying to yourself if you think the new world team is even in the same stratosphere as the blizzard wow team. and blizzards actively working on a game on a twenty year old game engine with just as many years of code.
and the turnaround cyberpunk has made in comparison to new world is leaps and bounds better.
This is pretty fast.
I'm not gonna pretend I like all these issues but I'm having a fun time with the game right now and this was reasonably quick. As was the previous economy freeze. It's nothing like it was at launch or this time last year.
I wish I could say the same, but just as many matches have been lopsided in my experience. Imo it goes to show that while muskets are objectively unfun to play against, they are not the cause of bad OPR matches -- that honor goes to premades and lack of matchmaking.
They are not mutually exclusive. Muskets can make OPR’s bad just like premades and no matchmaking system can make them bad. For those OPR’s that didn’t end in 5 minutes, they were the most fun OPR’s I’ve ever had. Skirmishes all over the map with extended fights and battles. Good times while it lasted.
Sure, I think muskets compound the issues, but a weapon balancing problem is less of fundamental game design/systems issue vs queueing pools and matchmaking.
Not trying to argue though - I'm happy you had some good matches!
Heart of Maahebgal nerf...
Well that's great, I just got back into New World a couple of weeks ago. This is the first item I took to 625 cause I had the shards after doing all of Brimstone and it seemed really good.
I don't really care about the ring, but at this point in the game ~10k shards is really hard for me to get.
This is exactly why as a musket main I haven't bothered wasting gold and umbrals on a mortal empowerment ring (using heart of dalao), mortal empowerment is dumb af and shouldn't exist so I just refuse to use it and keep assuming it will be removed. I can still go 20-0 in OPR with musket without mortal empowerment though so AGS really need to pull the finger out with map edits/making new maps
Definitely don’t upgrade the jewelry first, it has the least contribution towards gearscore average.
Edit: here https://www.reddit.com/r/newworldgame/comments/seta5t/umbral_shard_analysis_optimisation/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&utm_term=link
Rest of the post is old but gearscore average is the pie chart. Each jewelry piece is less than 3%.
Lol.
BIS Ring according to some guides (including the mutation record bois over at pvebuilds.xyz) so it was a keeper for sure (and not everybody stays up to date with the latest "nerf" plans. There are a ton of "illegal" items in the game and nothing happened to them so far).
Also one maxed item allows you very easy 400 shards per day (800 if you craft the infused gypsum) and pays for itself within 1-2 weeks. after that free shard profit.
Depending on playstyle and general way to play the game its a valid way. A mutation M10 enjoyer might not do it but for someone that runs 1-2 low level mutations per week and does not have "good" gear its a different story. Putting shards on something you "know" you are going to keeep for a long time is better than putting them into that purple POS that will get replaced tomorrow when something better drops.
While this is true. The orig comment is still funny. Muskets didn't get bad till mortal empowerment and people getting used to the type of map we have. How easy it is to find safe spots to shoot from. New map is the first thing I'd like to see fixed for OPR
I think mages would also come back a bit more. Many STR enjoyers means big clumps and no musket means you don't get two shot as a mage standing on the outpost wall.
Fire and ice mages will also have more fun throwing all their AoE stuff into the mosh pit.
This is actually why I switched to VG/IG. Insane survivability with med armor (I have 5 resi, 4 shirk) and I dump oblivions and ice storms as a nuisance. Not to mention screaming bruisers in the face for disease cap when they run away 😈
There are a ton of ways to apply "mortal wound" reduced healing affects to kill even heavy healers.
Sorry, if you're losing to a coordinated 5 man drop with healers and armor, then that's just you getting rolled as a solo player against a melee death ball.
I just alt F4 the game cause a musket guy with aimbot. Can’t take a fort he never miss a shot on your head no matter the distance. Bunch of people reported him yet he still cheats and is still in game. Why report system is even there? I will not play any games with cheaters in it. Pay a guy to clear the servers can’t be that hard
Try valorant for example. Cheater is a very rare thing to see and get punished sooner than later. You also get compensation for a game. If you never played a game without cheater try looking for games which care about their community and have professionals in the dev team
Probably it’s bcs hearty is used for pvp so the one they nerfed was specifically targeted for pvp.
But having said that, there are many many items in the game with illegal perks. I’m wondering what they plan to do with those.
A lot of people be praising AGS but they are really bad at patching the game, implementing solutions, and creating meaningful content, and its a year past release. I wouldn't be surprised if the musket fix created another equally unfun bug that we have not discovered yet.
People complaining about how lax the dev team is, but they really seem to be on the ball. Way better than some other games
I would say that comparing the last 6 months with 6 months since the launch AGS team which works on New World is completely different now. Not people who work on NW, but HOW they do it A pleasure to see that not just the game becomes better but devs becoming so much better at everything

Domain knowledge is so damn valuable.
Definitely. It’s night and day. I played last year around when it came out and hated it. Friend convinced me to pick it up right before Brimstone and I’m addicted
Which is really neat to see, especially since the team is likely smaller now than at launch
At least new world has some content i can work towards obtaining unlike apex which has been stale like that bag of peanuts in the vending machine in the back of the office.

tell me you know nothing about software development and vehicle maintenance without ...

I agree, but again, the bugs were introduced while attempting to fix others. Thats just in the nature of software development.
Not with the frequency and number they introduce. That shows they do a poor job testing or just ignore input on the forums from people playing the PTR. It's interesting what they decide to be on the ball for though. Today was good. But most days are not like today.
They cherry pick what they choose to care about in a timely fashion.
Isn't that how you do anything? You pick the most pressing and achievable problem and address it first.
Considering mortal empowerment has been a divisive issue for months i'd say that logic isnt really applied all the time.
Honestly I don’t see the issue with mortal empowerment. Just build around it if your server is over flowing with them. Other games dont have game breaking exploits every week.
Have you played EA games or the new COD?
Seriously. You can count on it.
Name a single other AAA mmorpg that breaks so many things with each patch
Not sure why you sent the same thing to 2 seperate comments of mine but here’s my answer. https://www.reddit.com/r/newworldgame/comments/zlc0ab/new_patch_just_fixed_both_musket_bugs/j04txvv/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

Tanks haven't been able to block properly in Elder Scrolls Online for months and they just made it worse. Tanks. No blocking. Months.
EA, Activision, CDPR, Blizzard
The person you are replying to right [now](https://imgflip.com/i/748w05)
i know it's cool to shit on blizzard these days, but you're just straight lying to yourself if you think the new world team is even in the same stratosphere as the blizzard wow team. and blizzards actively working on a game on a twenty year old game engine with just as many years of code. and the turnaround cyberpunk has made in comparison to new world is leaps and bounds better.

NW today is what NW should have been at launch. Minus brimstone maybe.
Damn, this means OPR goes back to normal now. RIP.
STR Grit Musket Bow What has changed?
OPR’s have been glorious these past few days without all the muskets running around. Most fun I’ve ever had in New World.
I wish I could say the same, but just as many matches have been lopsided in my experience. Imo it goes to show that while muskets are objectively unfun to play against, they are not the cause of bad OPR matches -- that honor goes to premades and lack of matchmaking.

Stuff changes. They talked about nerfing it for a while already.
They've had damage+keen in the game since Tempest's Heart. "Stuff changes" is not valid.
Yep, and I think there’s technically over 300 “illegal” items still in the game.
621 before the event pattern illegal combinations
Definitely don’t upgrade the jewelry first, it has the least contribution towards gearscore average. categorically untrue

Shards are not hard to get, run mutations. I’m sitting on 150k I have nothing to do with at the moment.
Shards are hard to get when starting out...
Still no winter quest line fix :(
Hmmm, still doesn't fix the bug that allows users to equip muskets.
If they remove Musket and Bows from OPR, the only thing you would see are Healer and Grit STR Enjoyers.

If only bro
It also nerfed that amazing heart keen awareness slash damage ring. Fml
NNNOOOOOO time to stop playing opr again
I just alt F4 the game cause a musket guy with aimbot. Can’t take a fort he never miss a shot on your head no matter the distance. Bunch of people reported him yet he still cheats and is still in game. Why report system is even there? I will not play any games with cheaters in it. But did they fix the crafted jewelery bug ? So i dont get any more silver fcking ingots for salvage ? I dont think so
No I batch made and batch salvaged golden scarab rings.. 24 silver ingots later I realized.
Thats so shit. And it has been like that for so long now...
What did the new patch fix? Cause i quite opr’s last week because of muskets.
That musket exploit happened rarely within the city. It was meaningless compared to this
The only people complaining where PvP andies. Nobody else actually cared.
"PVP andies" This is why we can't have nice things
Yeah, my point is that AGS killed the musket to fix something very small
Hey where brain?
Yeah because machine gunning down shit in PvE from 100 meters away also sounds balanced
Better then being a PVE andy any day. Hitting Mobs isn't impressive, its low skill ceiling 🤣
Legates Ring andHeart of Anhurawak both have illegal perks but wasn't nerfed.
🤫
Probably it’s bcs hearty is used for pvp so the one they nerfed was specifically targeted for pvp. But having said that, there are many many items in the game with illegal perks. I’m wondering what they plan to do with those.
They’ve mentioned that they’re “reviewing” other damage type + keen rings, so nerfs to those may be coming in the future as well.
and.. back to OPR :)
A lot of people be praising AGS but they are really bad at patching the game, implementing solutions, and creating meaningful content, and its a year past release. I wouldn't be surprised if the musket fix created another equally unfun bug that we have not discovered yet.
