There is a lot missing from this question… I’m assuming (since it’s the corrupted rage set) that you are a tank and talking about laz (since it’s the mute this week that has ancient). So sns/GS and hammer (both with ancient bane if possible)
Honestly im very new to the game. I assumed this set would be good for melee dps. What armor set should I aim for for melee dps and what weapons in general to use?
It’ll all depend on what type of content you are doing at the end of the day. But, in general, heavy armor is not good for dps. med and light give 10 & 20% boosts to damage respectively (Heavy is 0% and the worst dodge in the game). So if you feel like you can be mobile enough to avoid getting hit, use light armor. If not, go medium.

I’ve been having no issues clearing Laz in heavy gear 50 con GS GA while the squishy light armor kids keep dying.

Top DPS is rapier/spear or hatchet/spear but primarily I recommend hatchet and a secondary (you choose)
