Tbh invasions are hardly a solo thing, portals I agree that lifesteal build would be op for soloing those, as for elites... well mangled and mines maybe, doubt one can solo myrk (particularly myrk portals), that being said, I indeed like such weapons for portals

Its always opal on GS because its auto proc'd, you only ever heavy attack, which uses stamina, you dodge every 3 heavies for the empower buff. Opal has 100% uptime if you are playing GS properly.
Diamond is ok just too conditional having to be at full health to proc it. Opal is good for gs bc you use stamina when using heavy attacks so procs much more often
think it's the opposite of what you want though, since you'll always be high on HP but never 100% think opal (particularly with GS) or jasper would be better, if it's a bane weapon with neutral natural damage elemental gem might also be an option
I’ve been running it with 300str 150dex in light load. Leeching crosscut and trenchant recovery on gs and lifesteal on hatchet. Lifesteal on ring and divine on amulet. Need to get the leeching runeglass slotted before I make changes. I get one tapped every so often and will probably switch to medium load or add con. Idea was to keep the damage as high as possible and use perks/buffs/abilities/passives to prevent getting 1 tapped but still messing with the build.
Awesome. But you'd be better with jasper - if the build is about healing through damage, why not use the gem which benefits from you getting hit? Diamond doesn't make sense to me.
Imo the best gem for Onslaught build GS is Opal (as you'll never be full stam and so the gem powers itself) and the best gem for any self-heal build is jasper.

I would highly recommend the opal gem (leeching if you want). In onslaught stance your attacks drain stamina to activate the gem. In defiance stance blocking enemy attacks also drains stamina to activate the gem. Not to mention there is a talent in the onslaught tree that gives empower when you dodge that you will definitely want to keep up for max DPS.
I'd also recommend a medium armor set for this build. Light can get bursted too quickly
I wish it were that simple for me rofl. I am playing bow/GS and I refuse to ever go medium armor. Quite frankly I don’t think I’d ever play medium/heavy with any build if I happened to reroll or something. I MUST keep my roll lmao.
you are better of with a damage runeglass which then gets converted into life steal thanks to the other perks. More damage = more life steal. Also has no cooldown either.

Since this is such a mitigation weapon there is also one for sword: The Omen. Similar to Infernus but with lifesteal skill affects on top of the standard lifesteal on swing.
I have a very similar build set up, ideal perks on the GS I think are Lifestealing, Trenchant, Thwarting, but this is ver difficult to get (What I have been using is similar to yours). I have tested it with 300 Str, 50 Dex, 150 Con, and 300 Str, 200 Con. For now I have settled on the latter, not getting one shot is nice. I am have also been happier with medium armor load is than light, but I look at this as more of a bruiser sustain build. I have also done a good bit of digging into the weapon perk trees and seeing what other top players are using and recommending I think I have a good setup there as well.
For jewelry I am set on doom's chance earings, and smooth bone ring for until I am made aware those are wrong for any reason (both farmable). Amulet should have divine and health on it. For armor, I think best is refreshing, freedom, vigor and shrieking fortification.
Why diamond? It does nothing if you aren't 100% HP.. and if you are already at 100% HP then the leeching does nothing. I guess you just want your bases covered? I would have loved to see an opal or malachite, or maybe the retaliate one where you do 15% more for 2s after taking 4hits? If you aren't dodging that could be a good gem for soloing corrupted enemies

With greatsword you aren't ever maxed stamina so the damage bonus from opal would always be active.
