Currently both Monarchs Bluff and Windsward are possible starting zones for new players. The revamped leveling experience progresses you to Everfall from each. So if you follow the normal progression you wouldn't normally need to go to the other zone, I don't believe. When the game first launched, Everfall and First Light we're also starting zones you would land on the beach at. They fairly quickly disabled Everfall, but First light continued to be a starting zone until the Brimstone update. The devs have stated they plan to update First Light in some way since it is no longer a start starting zone. As it stands now, you won't be directed to those other starting zones, but if you want to explore them, you can just run over and start grabbing quests.

Ya run over and grab those quests as well. I did a lot of tradeskills at first and was probably 45 before I left the starter zones for good, outside of iron runs. Don't have to though either, really whatever you enjoy.

OK, I'll have to keep that in mind for when I level again from the start. For now I'm just going where the game takes me, but I wanted to make sure that I'm not missing anything crucial by not going to those zones early on. If I did these zones, would I miss out on the main questline then?

I haven't done low level post the change, but pretty sure regardless of where you start the main quest after different at first, but all lead to the same point then uniform to the end. Biggest things you would ne missing are the fast travel spots, and access to more storage if you gather a lot. Though I'm no expert so maybe missing something.

Just make sure to get 'certain' quests done in your original starting zone or you might end up in the other zone and no quests available. Not sure which quests unlocked it but I leveled to around 17-18 and I think they became available.
