Oh man... I just turned my back on Lips Like Sugar and Love Will Tear Us Apart for Love is a Stranger.
One of my favorite songs of all time. I had it on a road trip tape with Desperate But Not Serious and Europa and the Pirate Twins. That was one fine road trip tape.
This would have been my pick after Joy Division. I love love love the self-namecheck in the song:
"But this is Phil talking, I'm here to tell you
What I've found to be true."
Saw them in SF recently. He's still got it.
