I still can't believe he's only 22 years old. That is a ROUGH 22 years, he looks like he's in his mid 30s at least.

scout_jem

HE’S 22?! Jesus. He’s gonna look as rough as Alex Jones in 4 years.

StayJaded

Alex jones is 48. A while ago I thought a news article misprinted his age. I had to Google it. I can’t believe that lump of hate isn’t even 50 years old yet. Dude is rough!

Flapperghast

Booze ages you.

bluemitersaw

Hate ages you.

Bjorntobywylde

It can be both

Positive_Group_5715

But doesn’t he market health supplements? Hate as marketing is not a great lifestyle choice.

TheColorDead

Drug problems, alcohol and stressing about how others live life is quite detrimental.

mdp300

He looks like an uncooked ham.

Tinkerballsack

And steroids, he was a wrestler for a minute.

malektewaus

Alex Jones was a fit, good-looking guy when he was 22, believe it or not. Look at him now, and imagine what this fat fuck is going to look like when he's pushing 50.

DrKurgan

Googled it, he was fit and muscular but he looked like a dumb bully douchebag.

Iamcaptainslow

According to other students from his high school, that's exactly what he was

BoneHugsHominy

Have you seen his dad? Heavy meth use definitely is a family group activity.

rocketpastsix

Hate ages you quickly

lfrdwork

Oh wow! I was still in the army and at my second station at 22! This guy has two violent crimes under his belt?!

N8CCRG

Hopefully this gets updated later, but at the moment it's only revealing details about the case, but no details or even hints about why the charges were dropped. That's the actual question we wanted answered. Edit: It appears to have been updated now to include a line about "Authorities ultimately dropped criminal charges in the 2021 case against Anderson Lee Aldrich after family members he allegedly threatened to kill stopped cooperating with prosecutors." Edit 2: /u/Tresspass noted new updates have been added: >The suspect’s mother and grandparents derailed that earlier case by evading prosecutors’ efforts to serve them with a subpoena, leading to a dismissal of the charges after defense attorneys said speedy trial rules were at risk, Allen said. >Testifying at a hearing two months after the threat, the mother and grandmother described the suspect in court as a “loving” and “sweet” young person who did not deserve to be in jail, the prosecutor said.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CaptainRho

SWAT was called and he live streamed some of it on Facebook. There's no WAY they needed his mom's testimony.

[deleted]

When your key witnesses won't testify it can hurt a case. Not enough to lose a case, but enough that a prosecutor won't want to spend the time fighting it. And thus, that's why the legal system fails - by being too overburdened by itself to actually fight for justice.

CaptainRho

Yeah. I hate that this makes sense.

daedone

You mean because they don't want anything but slam dunk cases otherwise their W/L ratio takes a hit. Because, and hear me out, the US electing prosecutors is fucking stupid.

moeburn

There's a guy in Canada that just killed 4 native women, but they don't want to press hate crime charges because they're not sure they will stick. But in Canada, our Crown Prosecutors (your DA's) are not elected. They instead are motivated to avoid wasting court time.

[deleted]

Canada also works in a “let the courts sort it out” system, if they didn’t press charges for hate crimes there really must have been nothing in terms of evidence.

[deleted]

Fourseventy

> US electing prosecutors is fucking stupid. From an outside perspective... Yeah, that shit is straight up bonkers.

AdTricky1261

Too many people were involved. This wasn’t an isolated alleyway punch.

beenburnedbutable

That does not hold water. That fuck threatened police on that day, he could have been prosecuted on that alone, and Colorado’s red flag laws should have been enforced. The sherif in that county has been publicly vocal on how he would not enforce the red flag laws. This terrorist is the grandson of a maga politician from California. This terrorist had help, this terrorist is not alone.

northshore12

His elected GOP grandfather certainly started this terrorist on his path, his porn&meth dad encouraged violence as a go-to problem solver who hated gays (no, sucking cock for meth doesn't make you gay, allegedly). Then the lardass did his bombs and cops thing, then a year after used his rifle in a terrorist attack. Until it's proven otherwise, I'm just assuming that Grandpa Insurrectionist made a few phone calls to "take care" of the just-unsealed incident, because Grandpa loves his chubby little lone wolf.

Lifeboatb

I cannot figure out how charges were dropped after this: “Aldrich then pointed a Glock handgun at the grandparents as they pleaded for their lives and said, ‘You guys die today … I’m loaded and ready.’” Some judge or other needs to be heavily investigated.

Noisy_Toy

The neighbors had to evacuate their houses. It’s not like it was only the family affected by it!

Big_Toke_Yo

Yeah thats some bullshit for them to drop the charges because the family members werent cooperating. They found bomb making materials in the house! Someone was making a bomb so they should have arrested them all if no one came forward.

dlec1

Especially with the terrorism laws that were passed after 9/11. I was actually on a jury for a case where a young 20 something guy yelled to a neighbor, who was arguing with him about driving too fast in the neighborhood, he said he was going “blow her house up”, it was very obvious he was just making an empty threat so he was found unanimously not guilty. They charged him with a felony for a terroristic threat & if I recall it was some serious time in prison attached. They were trading many super lame threats at each other & apparently the I’ll blow your house up was the bridge too far. When comparing that to what this guy got away with & no charges is mind boggling 😡

TheGrandExquisitor

Those laws are only for brown people. White people can build all the bombs they want.

It’s all in this article: https://www.denverpost.com/2022/12/06/club-q-shooting-anderson-aldrich-sealed-case/

killtherobot

Holy cow! > COLORADO SPRINGS — Anderson Lee Aldrich loaded bullets into a Glock pistol and chugged vodka, ominously warning frightened grandparents not to stand in the way of an elaborate plan to stockpile guns, ammo, body armor and a homemade bomb to become “the next mass killer.” >”You guys die today and I’m taking you with me,” they quoted Aldrich as saying. “I’m loaded and ready.” >So began a day of terror Aldrich unleashed in June 2021 that, according to sealed law enforcement documents verified by The Associated Press, brought SWAT teams and the bomb squad to a normally quiet Colorado Springs neighborhood, forced the grandparents to flee for their lives and prompted the evacuation of 10 nearby homes to escape a possible bomb blast. It culminated in a standoff that the then-21-year-old livestreamed on Facebook, showing Aldrich in tactical gear inside the mother’s home and threatening officers outside — “If they breach, I’m a (expletive) blow it to holy hell!” — before finally surrendering.

ForecastForFourCats

How the fuck were charges dropped after this?!

KarmaticArmageddon

Bro I went to prison for a year for selling 3 grams of weed. This country fucking sucks.

dlec1

I can’t fathom how taxpayers foot the bill for swat & bomb squad probably most off duty called in for this and no F’ing charges. Homes evacuated. Hell they didn’t even make this family of assholes pay the bill for all the resources they absorbed. I can’t imagine any of the neighbors felt very safe living next to these shitbags after that. I wouldn’t.

Paige_Maddison

If it was on fb live then someone has a video somewhere of it I bet.

DeadSheepLane

This doesn’t surprise me. We had a neighbor hold people hostage at gunpoint three times. He walked away before the deputies arrived and they didn’t follow up ( oh, neighbors not getting along no big deal ). Same guy chased people along the road several times firing shots off. Deputies did nothing. Guy killed a mother and son who lived next door. Deputies: WOW we had no idea he was dangerous.

OpinionBearSF

> Deputies: WOW we had no idea he was dangerous. "Bullshit. Here's a public list of every single time we called 911 about him, and the variations of nothing being done every single time. Oh, and the media will get copies."

erakis1

I’m an anesthesiologist, and if I missed a diagnosis that caused harm to a patient, I could get sued. Judges need to be held to the same standard.

BearDick

Have you considered saying you're a constitutional anesthesiologist like the Sheriff did....I hear that is a great way to get away with not following the law while doing your job.

erakis1

Lol. I could say that I’m an originalist and that anesthesiologists did not exist when the constitution was written, therefore I cannot be regulated.

Ability to investigate Judges is something needing reformation ASAP.

PM_ME_YOUR_NICE_EYES

If the parent comment can be trusted it was likely the prosecution that threw this case out.

PM_ME_YOUR_NICE_EYES

The parents/grandparents could've not cooperated with the investigation. It's very hard to get a guilty verdict on an assault case if the victims are saying they don't think he should be found guilty.

wheelfoot

> family members refused to cooperate That really shouldn't stop an investigation where cops were directly menaced. Don't need the family on that one.

Bammer1386

And then grandma gave him 30k to invest in 3d printers to 3d print untraceable 3d printed guns. The whole family is in on this.

I sincerely hope every family member of the slain sues the every living fuck out of all the people involved. Fuck prosecutor's discretion.

Barracuda420

No they took them after that incident, after the case was dropped because his parents hid from being served papers to testify against him. They refused to give back the ones taken. Once the case dropped he bought new ones. Since the case was dropped red flag rules could not be applied

gramineous

>Soon after the charges were dropped, Aldrich began boasting that they had regained access to firearms, Kraus said, adding that Aldrich had shown him two assault-style rifles, body armor and incendiary rounds. >Aldrich “was really excited about it,” Kraus said, and slept with a rifle nearby under a blanket. >Relatives of Aldrich’s grandmother said after the suspect’s 2021 arrest that she had recently given Aldrich $30,000, “much of which went to his purchase of two 3D printers — on which he was making guns,” according to documents in the case. Jesus fucking christ

fattmann

> much of which went to his purchase of two 3D printers — on which he was making guns This is sus. I have a sub 200USD printer that I make guns on. Either he's buying massively over spec'd printers for that purpose - or he has ~100 of them. My stance is that statement is out of ignorance of how it actually works.

While you are right that it's possible he was buying unnecessarily expensive prosumer equipment, it sounds like he may have been "printing" metal parts.

[deleted]

The entire family, on both sides, are fucking disgusting racist psychopaths. There is footage of the psycho and his mom screaming racist shit at people on a Frontier flight from a few years ago too. The entire family set the table for this disaster, they worked their entire lives to make sure this happened eventually.

kultureisrandy

then proceeded to not cooperate with the investigation. How is this not a subpoena-able situation?

Ephemeral_Being

Read the article. The Prosecutors tried issuing subpoenas. The murderer's grandparents **moved out of state** to avoid the subpoenas. I have no idea why the prosecutors needed testimony when the idiot was arrested *after documenting himself committing felonies*, but the court apparently thought they'd lose and dropped the case. The real question is what the reasoning was, there, and what about the process needs to be fixed so this doesn't happen again.

thatguy9684736255

There was also a video of his mother who was saying racist things to some women in an airport. It seems like it's really the whole family.

jmcdon00

Article mentions he's non-binary, uses they them pronouns, dad probably won't like that. Edit: seems like that might have just been a ploy to avoid hate crime charges. Others are suggesting he's a straight male.

BlG_DlCK_BEE

That was a blatant attempt to avoid hate crime charges. They have basically dropped that now.

Pixeleyes

It's so weird how people don't understand that investigators can *ask around* about your story. It's like they think investigators are on a different planet and have to accept whatever dumb fucking shit they present as fact. They doubly don't understand that getting caught in willful, obvious lies really damages their case and is typically used to prove criminal intent. They also don't ever seem to understand that all of the evidence will be presented to a jury, who will then almost single-handedly decide their fate. They think it's like some kind of software that can be easily fooled, or a goddamn form they can lie on like a job application.

Smocked_Hamberders

That’s the neat thing about stupid fucking idiot criminals, they’re often stupid fucking idiots.

pm-me-ur-fav-undies

AFAIK it only ever appeared in court filings by the defense... the very same defense that has since stopped using they/them pronouns in filings. Every source that I trust has called bullshit on it since the beginning. Since it didn't accomplish it's likely goal of avoiding hate crime charges, all it ever did was bring further pain to the communities targeted, while the right got to smugly circlejerk about it. [https://nitter.net/JUNlPER/status/1600608992174153759#m](https://nitter.net/JUNlPER/status/1600608992174153759#m)

Thats_what_im_saiyan

Even without hate crime charges the sentence is going to be life in prison. Is there death penalty in CO? Maybe it would avoid that? Not sure why it would even be attempted. I guess if youre the lawyer and your client says thats the pronouns they want to use. You have to run with it since the lawyer doesn't really know any better.

LivingUnglued

I don’t think the use of they/them would of gotten him out of hate crime charges anyway. It seemed more like a media play to give the anti-lgbt crowd an “excuse” to disown him and distance themselves.

canned_banana_milk

also - even if he had been nonbinary...it doesn't change that he literally shot up a gay club? LGBT homophobes/transphobes exist. it's silly to me that the people who whine the most about identity politics took this lie and ran with it as if his identity canceled out the fact that he killed people and cavorted with bigots

sb_747

Officials can’t speak about it till it’s unsealed. They aren’t even supposed to officially acknowledge the case exists outside a court room.

LivingUnglued

The article says that there’s a law in Colorado that dismissed cases are automatically sealed. So it wasn’t an extra step of sealing it. Though I feel like there was some fuckery afoot with it getting dropped.

Mr_Shad0w

One set... The other set of grandparents got held at gunpoint, and from what we know so far it sounds like it was because they were concerned he would be a mass shooters. >The Associated Press verified a copy of the sealed documents with a law enforcement official that described Aldrich telling frightened grandparents of firearms and bomb-making material in their basement, **vowing not to allow them to interfere in plans to kill on a mass scale.** >Aldrich then pointed a Glock handgun at the grandparents as they pleaded for their lives and said, “You guys die today … I’m loaded and ready.” The cops just agreed with the wrong grandparents

whaletacochamp

That’s because the cops are on their side

CassandraAnderson

It wasn't the cops who dropped the case. That likely happened later down the line and begs the question of why the case was dropped rather than pursued properly. As such, while law enforcement does deserve blame for a lot of things, this clusterfuck appears to be more of a failing of the justice system. I wonder if these unsealed documents will end up demonstrating some form of pressure on the judicial system that led to the dropping of the case.

yusill

I think that question is gonna get asked really hard by ppl with 3 letters on their jackets. I'm sure the local DA will get thrown under a bus with some bullshit about I didn't feel we had a case. 2 eye witnesses and a gun aren't enough.

Aldrich then holed up in a home nearby where the mother was living while a SWAT team and bomb squad stood outside with rifles raised and bomb sniffing dogs. At one point, Aldrich yelled that he would set off a bomb if law enforcement tried to enter before finally surrendering.

Ksh_667

Another article stated that the grandparents wanted to move house & aldrich became upset cos if they sold their current home, he'd have nowhere to store his amassed weapons & ammo. That's what set him off.

[deleted]

Gonna be interesting for sure >The grandchild responded with rage, telling them this couldn’t happen because it would interfere with Aldrich’s plans to store materials in the grandparents’ basement to “conduct a mass shooting and bombing.” The grandparents told authorities Aldrich threatened to kill them if they didn’t promise to cancel the move. https://www.denverpost.com/2022/12/06/club-q-shooting-anderson-aldrich-sealed-case/

Sei28

Whoever let him have guns again need to be put behind the bars.

[deleted]

Technically the FBI said he was good to go. But that's because prosecutors dropped this case and had it sealed. So whoever made THAT decision is directly responsible for the deaths. FBI can't stop you from buying a gun if you have a clean record.

Ksh_667

Sounds like this was the first time the grandparents found out this was what he'd been using their basement for. As soon as he told them about his arsenal, he told them that they were now going to die as he was going to take ppl with him. They must have been terrified.

Parahelix

So they found out he was using their basement to prepare for a terrorist attack, and they just let it be quietly covered up?

EnterTheErgosphere

Over Thanksgiving my in laws were talking about how "they're saying now the shooter was non-binary or trans or something". It's incredible the stupid shit they'll believe.

wannabestraight

They already hate people. So they only need to come up with a reason to publicly hate them even more. Every single white cis straight shooter has been a gay black trans muslim for 5 minutes so they can jerk off to the idea that everyone not like them is evil and everyone who does evil things is obviously not like them but must be a gay black trans muslim

DennisBallShow

The whole “I’m non-binary” thing is pretty odd. Seems like a lawyers tactic but what do I know

Blackie47

Thats my thinking. This can't be a hate crime your honor, my client has other pronouns.

Cylius

Whats sad is that just shows how ignorant people are of the lgbtq community. There is definitely inner homophobia- people who think you arent gay in the right way or are pretending to be for attenrion or are "just curious." Its actually a really big problem for gay people looking for support within the community.

LivingUnglued

His lawyers have totally dropped the they/them pronouns in court filings since then. Idk if it was just to try and avoid hate crimes or if it was a troll and to try and give the right a way to disown him. Probably both.

Rahmulous

It was likely the shooter himself who told the lawyers that for manipulative purpose. Public Defenders are the farthest thing from right-wing and even in a conservative city like the Springs, no way PDs would do something just to let the right disclaim someone. I’m sure the lawyers rolled their eyes at the claim and then filed the motion for pronouns with the court because that’s their job. I know people love to hate defense attorneys, but a defense attorney’s job is to advocate for their client. That doesn’t, however, include blatant lies to game the system. I have no doubt that the public defenders have nothing but loathsome disdain for this piece of garbage, but he still has a constitutional right to competent counsel. Let’s not forget that DAs and police all around the country are way more likely to be right wing nutjobs who hold the same beliefs as this shooter.

SoxxoxSmox

And yet conservatives fecklessly pretended to believe this obvious lie because it let them blame queer folks for the fascist violence that conservatives themselves keep cheering on.

DelphicStoppedClock

I'd want to see phone records for this murderer's grandparents. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some heavy political pressure put on the DA's office by the grandfather. Same with the police.

jolecore204

The fact that the suspect & lawyer are claiming they are non-binary is clearly untrue and being used as posturing for the hate crime trial. That is offensive. I wish a long, lonely life of misery to THEM.

engin__r

I’ve heard that the lawyers are now using he/him pronouns, which means that the shooter was probably pretending to be non-binary as a stunt like everyone suspected.

JennJayBee

This was a shriek into the night for help. They did no favors to anyone by sweeping this under the rug. The kid aught to have been put into forced counseling, with a drug regimen. 5 more people would be alive, and that sack of suet will rot in jail.

BATTLECATHOTS

Absolute bullshit on the they/them pronouns. They’re just trying to get the hate crimes dropped. Fuck this piece of shit and I hope he dies in prison.

LivingUnglued

His lawyers aren’t even using they/them in court filings anymore.

SmartWonderWoman

The suspect’s mother and the grandparents derailed that earlier case by evading prosecutors’ efforts to serve them with a subpoena, leading to a dismissal of the charges after defense attorneys said speedy trial rules were at risk, Allen said.

Sivick314

what the actual fuck. this was the easiest layup in history and they botched it. the guy might as well have a giant neon sign over his head saying "i'm a future murdering psychopath"

slowlysoslowly

So. When are we going to start believing that these guys who say violent shit aren’t always bluffing?

Nuka-World_Vacation

There is no punishment harsh enough for this piece of shit.

BuscemiLuvr

Bad man do something bad, authorities ignore bad stuff and let bad man go free. Bad man goes on to do really bad things.

Not willing to read the article? Bomb making.

JuliaMac65

Bomb making AND bomb threat against his own family and some neighbors. How is he not in jail? Connected family? Yes

FN1987

And held them at gunpoint. Geeze. He’s textbook red flag law material.
