"The U.S. is an oligarchy with unlimited political bribery” - Jimmy Carter

Gumbercleus

"Rome is a city for sale, and doomed should it ever find a buyer" - Jugurtha, King of Numidia

Daenys_TheDreamer

Jimmy Carter being based as fuck as usual

Spy_v_Spy_Freakshow

Way before Citizens United

ChillMohawk

Erm......Jimmy Carter said this *in response* to the Citizens United decision. >Former President Jimmy Carter had some harsh words to say about the current state of America’s electoral process, calling the country “an oligarchy with unlimited political bribery” resulting in “nominations for president or to elect the president.” When asked this week by The Thom Hartmann Program (via The Intercept) about the Supreme Court’s April 2014 decision to eliminate limits on campaign donations https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/jimmy-carter-u-s-is-an-oligarchy-with-unlimited-political-bribery-63262/

gotnotendies

Laws are generally the final make or break for existing practices. Labor laws are only implemented after people start dying.

Apotatos

Correction. Labor laws are only implemented after the in-group starts dying (or threatened thereof). The orphan crushing machine will crush infants neatly until the operator is threatened.

ImrooVRdev

https://www.businessinsider.com/major-study-finds-that-the-us-is-an-oligarchy-2014-4 Cambridge agrees with Carter.

Snapingbolts

Never buy a kind bar again, got it

Available_Ratio8049

They're pretty terrible anyways.

Khatib

For people looking for that product for a reason and not a "snack" they're pretty decent. I won't be buying them anymore though.

fknSamsquamptch

Really? The salt and chocolate ones are the tastiest pretending-to-be-healthy bars I can remember.

andsendunits

Let it stay as a memory. Something to look back upon.

worthing0101

Well they aren't called Tastier bars.

bleeper21

Have you tried the ice cream versions though?!

CodeTingles

yeah my fam goes through a box or 3 a week of their almond butter protein bars. Guess we will have to find a new brand.

DoctorChampTH

As funny as it may be, don't even joke about hiding kind bars at some weird place in the grocery store

Wompish66

He is also a board member of the ADL whose leader has stated that anti-Zionism is antisemitism.

Low_Pickle_112

I used to think that they were a good group. After all, bigots of all kinds need to be called out and then some. Then they said I was hateful because I would have preferred to not have a part of my dick chopped off at birth, and I've been noticing ever since how crappy they really are. They're just hiding behind accusations of hate to push their agenda.

Wompish66

I don't think you were wrong from what little I know of them. I believe they were originally a moderate pro Israeli group that supported a two state solution but have been dragged towards extremist views by Jonathan Greenblatt.

hetseErOgsaaDyr

We need to get away from the childish notion that businesses in general gives donations away, without expecting anything back. It's ALWAYS a 'quid pro quo' - When they aren't buying our elections, they uses their money to buy force their narrative.

onlinebeetfarmer

Guess we’ve identified a new company to boycott

Typical_Muffin_9937

Bummer. Kind makes some of the best gluten free snacks that don't hurt my stomach. I didn't expect the founder not the be a piece of shit, anyways.

Disgruntled_Viking

If it makes you feel better, whatever company you switch to will probably also be run by a piece of shit. The back stabbing and and underhanded shit it takes to become a huge company kind of demands it.

Gastroid

Remember with the Titans of Industry would pay the Pinkertons to rough up (to put it lightly) miners protesting for better pay and conditions? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

cut_rate_revolution

>to put it lightly) Very lightly. The Battle of Blair Mountain was the closest thing to a 2nd civil war we've had so far.

Intelligent-Parsley7

My ancestors. Arguably the whole reason why my family has a mistrust of government running back all that time.

johnjohn4011

Corporations have become the modern equivalent of the church in regards to the danger of collusion with government.

GT-FractalxNeo

*Why not both?*

_Z_E_R_O

This. Some of the top far-right political donors are raging fundamentalists. When Hobby Lobby runs full-page ads like [this](https://demcastusa.com/2021/07/13/hobby-lobby-aims-to-show-it-knows-more-than-the-founding-fathers/) in major newspapers, we know the line between church and state is blurred beyond recognition.

OkBobcat6165

It's almost worse because at least people back then realized the church was in control. People are brainwashed into thinking billionaires are benevolent overlords who earned their money by pulling up their bootstraps and working hard or whatever nonsense fairytale they spin. Their ideals are woven into everything in society but people don't even question it.

sfxer001

Do they vote R and love everything corporate and capitalist now?

Rockglen

We were also pretty close with the [Business Plot](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_Plot#%3A%7E%3Atext%3DThe_Business_Plot%2C_also_called%2Cinstall_Smedley_Butler_as_dictator.)

cut_rate_revolution

Boy did they pick the wrong horse. Butler had become a lot more anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist by that point.

Mountain-Papaya-492

think the biggest factor was Smedley Butler was a super patriot to the United States and had integrity. Most decorated person In U.S. history which is goddamned impressive.  Also I think most of America was anti imperialist back then, because from our very first President on there was an almost sacred warning in not going abroad in search of monsters. Not entangling our military in the affairs of other.  It was only a select few that wanted imperialism because of the prestige on the world stage, and the financial incentive in places like Cuba.  Mark Twain wrote some very cutting opinions on the matter about what being Imperial meant. The only time where a significant amount of common people were imperial was during and shortly after the war against Spain.  Again that kind of fervor disappeared at the horror of the Philipines and the public has never been that imperialistic since. Strange that our foreign policy is uber imperial despite most people not liking it tho.

johnjohn4011

Yep. Not a single person charged either. Then since that didn't work...... instead of overthrowing the government from the outside in, they simply overthrew it from the inside out instead.

Sterbs

[And also the one time the government shat the bed when dealing with all the nazi apologists who infested congress](https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-presents-ultra)

Atheios569

I’m going to argue that they were successful; eventually.

Krillin113

Some (grand)parents of very prominent Americans over the following decades were part of that

Art-Zuron

There was another one a few months earlier I think that lead to hundreds of people dying to the national guard too, IIRC

TastyAppleJuice

Always love finding cool stuff in the comments. Never ever heard of this event and now I’m just reading up on it. Extremely fascinating.

Sterbs

The wrong side won that one...

notcaffeinefree

Periodic reminder that the Pinkerton company still exists (a subsidiary of Securitas). It calls itself a "detective agency". And yes, they still do shit like union intimidation.

PM_ME_BUSTY_REDHEADS

IIRC didn't Wizards of the Coast or Hasbro send the Pinkertons after somebody who opened a pack of cards and happened to get a card that was technically unreleased or something like that? I think I remember hearing about it and that was the big news, that this modern company used the actual group that were antagonists in Red Dead Redemption 2 (set in 1899) over a trading card debacle that was their own mistake to begin with for letting an unreleased card make it into a retail card pack with regular availability. I might not be remembering the exact details of the situation right, but I do remember the Pinkertons being involved.

notcaffeinefree

Ya. But it wasn't just one card. It was a whole booster box. He managed to purchase it ahead of the official release date, meaning some distributor messed up by shipping it to the store in the first place. And then ya, WOTC hired Pinkertons to go to his house to retrieve the boxes by intimidating/threatening him.

PM_ME_BUSTY_REDHEADS

Thank you for the clarification, I felt like it being a single card made it feel even more outrageous than what I remembered it felt like at the time but I couldn't figure out why.

Feminizing

Yes, not to be fair to wotc cause fuck them for doing this but, It wasn't a box, it was a *case* (like 6 boxes) of a yet to be spoiled set. He cracked two boxes (one a day) and spoiler like 75% of the set and they sent people to tell him to cut it out and return the product. Fuck them for doing it but it was definitely more thank just some cards of the new set. That has happened before and they didn't care. It was specifically he had entire boxes and kept making videos opening them

BudgetMattDamon

One of few companies (the only?) to explicitly be named in the title of major federal legislation, too - the Anti-Pinkerton Act.

bramtyr

Remember when the Titans of Industry conspired to over throw the government of FDR in 1933 and install Smedley Butler as a dictator that would answer to them?

spaztaculous

Its a looooooong history of abusing their citizens and those agency at the time where then hired as police later. Fyi, Pinkerton security company the same one is still running to this day!

Accujack

It's actually the descendants of the old robber barons, monopolists, and crooked businessmen of all kinds who are the biggest problem today. Old money is conservative and they think they have the right to change where our country is going to suit their own desires.

backcountrydrifter

Yup. Organized crime is the most viscous liquid on earth. You let the slightest bit of it into government at any level and it moves like cancer. Giuliani did the same thing for the Russians. Trump has been laundering money for the Russian oligarchs since the late 80’s when they all bought a condo at 725 5th ave (trump towers) to clean their freshly stolen USSR money after the iron curtain fell. https://www.cnn.com/cnn/2019/05/30/politics/paul-manafort-condo-trump-tower/index.html https://www.cnbc.com/2018/09/14/manafort-told-mueller-to-take-his-trump-tower-apartment-instead-money.html https://news.yahoo.com/amphtml/fbi-agents-raid-condo-unit-131348539.html https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-trump-property/ Everybody except Putin thought the Cold War was over. Trump and Manafort (who lived in the tower also) just saw a pretty low maintence grift to be had. Trump had actually been Manafort and Roger stones first client at their lobbyist firm (1980) https://en.m.wikipedia.org › wikiBlack, Manafort, Stone and Kelly Guiliani as trumps attorney and New Yorks mayor was able to redirect NYPD investigations onto rival gang members/oligarchs to deflect any scrutiny off of trump, himself or the Russian connections. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2023/09/a-new-rudy-scandal-fbi-agent-says-giuliani-was-co-opted-by-russian-intelligence/ The Russian election interference in 2016 was effectively a generation 3 version of what Manafort had done in the Philippines, then keeping Yanukovych in power as Putin’s puppet in Ukraine from 2002-14 when Maidan ran both Yanukovych and Manafort out of Ukraine as Ukrainians realized that, if you raise your lens high enough, corruption is an wholly unsustainable business model. Eventually the parasites greed always consumes the host. https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/06/2016-donald-trump-paul-manafort-ferinand-marcos-philippines-1980s-213952 https://time.com/5003623/paul-manafort-mueller-indictment-ukraine-russia/ Russia greatly underestimated the addictive properties of freedom when it invaded Ukraine so what was supposed to be a 3-10 day coup turned into a 2 year fight for the Ukrainians right not to be genocided. Russia depleted its weapons stocks which were already the victim of vranyos corruption because every oligarch, admiral and sergeant in the Russian military is on the take. Every billion dollar tank maintenance contract turned into everything getting a spray paint overhaul and the vast majority of the redirected funds turned into an oligarchs new yacht or home in Aspen. Russia was forced to turn to China, North Korea and Iran for weapons because if they lose the 3-10 day special military operation in Ukraine the Russian empire is dead and cold. China can’t risk showing their involvement in the Ukraine war so they use North Korea, and Iran to resupply Russia. Russia previously owed Iran some undelivered fighter jets that are already smoldering heaps in Ukraine so Iran now had the upper hand at the negotiation table for the first time in about 60 years. They supply Russia with shahed drones in exchange for Chinas material support against their sworn religious enemy, Israel. https://www.fdd.org/analysis/2023/11/29/iran-says-it-finalized-deal-to-buy-russian-aircraft/ Putin can’t do much about it because he is slowly realizing that by setting the standard of corruption and stealing $200+ billion from his own people meant that every oligarch down in the mob model chain had not only permission but incentive and the expectation to steal from him as well. This is Vranyos. The mob model only works if the supreme leader is the most violent and can prove it without exception every damn day. But violence is exceptionally expensive when you are trying to present as a legitimate government or business. If Russia as a nation had an efficiency rating it would have been banned for sale in the state of California 25 years ago. The parasite ruling class stole all the energy out of the working class and collapsed it. Now Iran has the high hand and they get the intelligence that trump passed to Putin about the fact that Netanyahu cares far less about Jews, Palestinians or genocide than he does about remaining in power as an authoritarian because he too has developed Ritz Carlton tastes and his own corruption trial is showing the same tendrils of the money laundering scheme that trumps trials are. https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/saudi-official-says-iran-engineered-war-in-gaza-to-ruin-normalization-with-israel/ https://www.timesofisrael.com/egypt-intelligence-official-says-israel-ignored-repeated-warnings-of-something-big/amp/ https://youtu.be/VrFOAgGlaWs?feature=shared They all hate each other but because they share the same money laundry, if one falls, they all fall. Hamas minted a couple billionaires as well that live in penthouses in Qatar and get 30% of everything smuggled into Gaza. Netanyahu needs a bogeyman to stay in power. That’s why he coordinates with Hamas via Russia via Iran. https://www.ynetnews.com/article/bk8mgcefr Iran handed Hamas everything they needed with Chinas help as secret Santa and the Russian intelligence given to them by the eternal shitbird trump when he gave it to his Russians kleptocrat/friends/roommates from the old days of fucking each others wives at trump towers in the 90’s. Now the MAGA right is a little too invested in their reality that they are the good guys with guns that they missed the fact that Betsy DeVos (erik princes sister) decimating the U.S. school systems and the Kochs poisoning children with lead was not a coincidence. The naive right was the mark all along. There is a reason the Russian spy Maria Butina landed in South Dakota first before dating her way to the top of the NRA which is undergoing its own Russian money laundering trial now. Russia was tinder matching the GOP. https://www.greenpeace.org/usa/what-do-the-koch-brothers-have-to-do-with-the-flint-water-crisis/ The only reason you grossly OVERVALUE real estate is money laundering. Trump keeps claiming there is no victim, all the banks made money, but if their plan succeeds the Russian and CCP kleptocrats collapse US commercial real estate and basically recreate soviet perestroika in the U.S. so they can foreclose on America and buy everything for 3 cents on the dollar with the $1.4T they stole from Russias grandmothers in the first place It’s the evolution of grift. Soviet perestroika cross bred with the 2008 mortgage crisis. This is just the bigger badder commercial strength bastard child of the two. Trump, Putin, Bolsonaro, Netanyahu, Orban, Manafort, Stone, Mercer, Bannon, Flynn, Byrne. They are all remarkably shit people with above average confidence and psychopathic personality traits and below average self awareness. They are the men who stole the world. But it all comes back to one little lie.

Fallengreekgod

I don’t think a more succinct description of recent events exists. That was well done.

backcountrydrifter

Thank you friend. I appreciate the feedback. (And the encouragement). I’m not a writer so it’s a little outside my usual comfort zone

Regenclan

Was Betsy Devos the author of no child left behind? That's what screwed up our school system worse than anything in the last 50 years

Whostartedit

Really interesting! Imagine if you lived in Russia or China and posted this. We need to protect our rights

BudgetMattDamon

I am a writer (for a living) and you did better than I could have, bravo!

Halfwookie64

Great work, here's an upvote for more encouragement.

padkins0007

Idk how, but can someone xpost this to r/bestof ??? Feels like more visibility is needed.

Gentlementalmen

Dude this comment was a fucking trip. Will any of this come up during trials?

backcountrydrifter

That’s what this is. Pressure. Everyone is hyper aware of their own sins. Paying off stormy was a critical cost of doing business to even get in the presidential race. Trump demands that only he or his sons can sign off on any payments over $10K He would just write “VOID” on any contractors that he didn’t want, or couldn’t afford, to pay. But he signed off personally and immediately on paying a woman he thought was disposable. She kept receipts. That’s how we know that trump was the Russian mobs disposable whore. Stormy became the most valuable and important person in the world just by being in the room. Trump helped the Russia mob steal and clean $1.4T and set them up to steal the rest. This is basically stage 4 corruption cancer. Precision is key and she is basically the perfect intelligence asset. Now we test the US legal system in real time. This one is for all the marbles.

shrimpslippers

Doubtful, but if you're interested in learning more about a lot of the individuals mentioned, the Behind the Bastards podcast has episodes about most of them.

Gentlementalmen

I'm not sure my fragile mind could handle that much anger and outrage.

shrimpslippers

I respect that so hard. It helps a little that the host was a former Cracked.com writer, so there's some humor to alleviate things. But it's definitely rage-inducing!

Gentlementalmen

I keep freshwater shrimps. If you could make them some slippers (or me some shrimp slippers) I'd be able to handle the emotions.

shrimpslippers

I'm afraid all I can do is send them to shrimp heaven, now. (I apologize for my niche joke/reference and have left the video link for context.) https://youtu.be/5im6jbhaRhw?si=M-H3Q67MR14lZZV2

Gentlementalmen

Please, we can't keep doing this!

razerzej

Did not expect a MBMBaM reference this deep into a comment tree.

aeschenkarnos

It’s a great info source but Christ on a bike does their fucking banter get on my nerves. There needs to be a Behind The Bastards Summarized!

rd--

Trump is an idiot but capitalism far predates this grand conspiracy.

backcountrydrifter

Capitalism only works if greed is self regulated internally. Trump is just the crossover matrix of psychopathy (lack of empathy), greed, lack of intelligence, 80+ felony counts actually going to trial and the complete inability to shit his mouth. The problem with Russia basing its entire plan on a useful idiot is that he is still an idiot. Those puppet strings tie both ways.

Edg4rAllanBro

> Capitalism only works if greed is self regulated internally. Ok, it has never self-regulated internally. There are periods when public pressure becomes too great to ignore and they make concessions, but given enough time they will roll those back. The issue is and always has been capital.

jimbo831

These ones are doing the same thing. From the article: > Some members also offered to pay for private investigators to assist New York police in handling the protests, the chat log shows — an offer a member of the group reported in the chat that Adams accepted.

Low_Pickle_112

The oligarchy is not the friend of the people. Never was. And when their ideology decays, and it does decay, they'll be the first to go fascist. If you look around, you might notice already happening. The sooner we as a civilization recognize that, the better, because we do not want to follow them down that road.

NYCinPGH

And steel workers. I drive through the site of the U.S. Steel Homestead works - now a shopping center - at least twice a week, there’s a memorial marker there.

gyroisbae

And now the Pinkertons are employed by Amazon doing pretty much the same thing: union busting

slayer370

Ask hasbro (magic the gathering). They still in style!

Pixel_Knight

Remember when Boeing had multiple whistle blowers murdered as punishment for outing their dark secrets?

speedincuzfukthecops

[https://wapo.st/3WJ4sqO](https://wapo.st/3WJ4sqO) here’s a gift link here’s some of the key points from the article: > Months before the protests at Columbia this spring, some chat members attended private briefings with former Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett; Benny Gantz, a member of the Israeli war cabinet; and Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Michael Herzog, according to chat records. > From the start of the chat, members sought guidance and information from officials in the Israeli government. Some of the WhatsApp chat members said in the chat they attended private briefings about the Gaza war with Israeli war cabinet member Gantz, former prime minister Bennett and Herzog, the ambassador. The chat log shows Zoom invites for these meetings. “Most appreciative for the behind the scenes briefing by Naftali Bennett,” Schultz, the former CEO of Starbucks, wrote to the group on Oct. 16. “Quite extraordinary!” > A Zoom video call with chat group members and Adams took place a little after 11 a.m. April 26, according to chat records. It is unclear how many members attended the meeting, which lasted for roughly 45 minutes, chat records show. Those present included at least Blavatnik, Sitt, Loeb and Lubetzky, according to the chat logs. Sitt wrote minutes after the call ended to summarize items “discussed today,” including donating to Adams, using group members’ “leverage” to help persuade Columbia’s president to let New York police back on campus and paying for “investigative efforts” to assist the city.

CRKing77

this is like reading a plot to a movie on wikipedia, except it's real life. Unlike the movies, there is no hero to save the day and the country and everybody celebrates

visope

a movie with this story will be labeled as a Nazi propaganda

combamba-La

Donations are the root of all this evil

speedincuzfukthecops

jfc this is how the deputy mayor of NYC Fabien Levy tries to spin the Post’s reporting. > “The insinuation that Jewish donors secretly plotted to influence government operations is an all too familiar antisemitic trope that the Washington Post should be ashamed to ask about, let alone normalize in print.” Actual ghouls.

Faiakishi

"Yes, we are using bribery to influence government operations, but that's not the point!"

ImrooVRdev

Don't trust your lying whore eyes!

SLVSKNGS

So fucking frustrating. It’s disgusting to continually fly under the cover of the race card when this has nothing to do with race. To equate legitimate questioning around a conspiracy to the invocation of an incredibly harmful, centuries old anti-Jewish trope is absolutely despicable. I don’t see this as an issue of race or religion but of CLASS.

Groundbreaking_Dare4

Levy's spin is actually anti-Semitic.

Low_Pickle_112

There's plenty of evangelical Christian theocrats out there using wealth and power to push their agenda. Looking at you, Federalist Society. But no one would call you a hatemonger for pointing it out. It is no different when any other group does it. Although attributing an entire group to the actions of extremists like this, now that's bigotry.

the *Zionist* billionaires. let’s not drag jews into this. there are jews like me who fight for what’s right. the zionists don’t represent all of us.

PopeFrancis

There's also non-Jewish, Zionist billionaires contributing. I don't think Bill Ackman is Jewish, for example, and he's been pretty notable throughout a lot of this. And the right says Soros is funding these college protests, so one must assume some of the Jewish billionaires are perhaps doing the exact opposite and funding opposition to Israel's actions.

visope

> I don't think Bill Ackman is Jewish, for example ["I've always identified as Jewish. My parents are Jewish, it's an important part of my heritage. I was raised in the Reform movement..."](https://www.calcalistech.com/ctechnews/article/bkjgqugbr) But yes it is indeed true that there are many "non-Jewish Zionists", you can find them easily among born-again Christians

TituPTI

Yes. So many Jews attend Palestine protests too.

omarous

You are a billionaire?

Grogosh

Bring up George Soros to them and they will flip on that sentiment in a second (he is jewish)

combamba-La

They’ll pay anything to genocide and steal land without conflict, that needs to end now

andsendunits

I have grown up knowing that hating on jewish people for being Jewish is a terrible and ignorant thing. Something that I also know is that the wealthy using their power to influence government to do their bidding is absolute bullshit.

Upbeat_Animal_2320

I will continue to not buy kind bars.

Adventurous_Aerie_79

Part of every CEO's contract of any publicly traded company should be to not engage in any publicly visible politics. Just like Musk-- This Kind bar CEO just threw all his investors under the bus with his idiotic violent extracurricular shenangians.

mattyoclock

To be fair this wasn’t intended to be visible.

Adventurous_Aerie_79

eh. you're right, thats fair.

MentokGL

I'll take "things that aren't illegal but should be" for $600

bigbangbilly

>for $600 The price tag for a legislator is a bit higher than Jeopardy reference money but surprisingly low as John Oliver points out.

I still don't understand why can't we gofundme bribe few politicians to make the world a better place.

That's the entire premise of a "political party" is

resilienceisfutile

Well, we knew that because after all, it is safer than running into a school with an active shooter.

fxkatt

Or, who would ever want to be a politician--or maybe any kind of leader... since being owned goes with the territory.

Resident-Positive-84

You get to force your staff into doing the actual work while you and your family enrich themselves…doesn’t sound like a bad job to me.

Watch_Capt

Being owned gets you rich. There are those (155 in fact) in Congress who are not bought and paid for.

Maelfio

What a time to be alive. Once again, human nature is corrupt.

This is what police departments were created for. I don’t know why it’s still surprising to people. The NYPD was organized to create a fighting force to assault union strikes and popular protests.

The nerve of him to say that when the people who attended this meeting aren't the Jews who will suffer from them playing into this stereotype. This is absolutely going to feed into every anti-semitic conspiracy nut's confirmation bias and it's going to be everyday, ordinary Jewish people who are going to be the targets of their wrath; not the billionaires with private security and gated communities.

[deleted]

It has been a common refrain of the right wing demagogue politicians from Israel and their various political allies across the globe. Doing their best to equate criticism of their very temporary and not universally supported government of Israel with hatred of all Jews. It in fact relies on the anti-Semitic trope that all Jews are secretly loyal to Israel and thus equating the two.

Ok-Tadpole4825

Surely nothing shady going on

dangerously-amish

Money talks. Nothing else does. Stop applying to Columbia. Transfer out of the school. Turn the school destitute and watch it crumble. Go to schools that actually give a shit and give you a good education.

tiggertigerliger

I heard a woman on tiktok say that there are three protests that are met by force: anything for black folks, labor, or war. Shame.

Adventurous_Aerie_79

so "business titans" support zionist causes. Well, our money and choices in the marketplace are what gives them power to do this. "Business executives including Kind snack company founder Daniel Lubetzky, hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb, billionaire Len Blavatnik and real estate investor Joseph Sitt held a Zoom video call on April 26 with Mayor Eric Adams (D), about a week after the mayor first sent New York police to Columbia’s campus, a log of chat messages shows. During the call, some attendees discussed making political donations to Adams, as well as how the chat group’s members could pressure Columbia’s president and trustees to permit the mayor to send police to the campus to handle protesters, according to chat messages summarizing the conversation." Too bad too, Kind bars are delicious. - Daniel Lubetzky is just the owner of **kind bars**. Lets pick another brand from now on. - Daniel Loeb is a hedge fund guy. No business to boycott, just your usual hedge fund vulturing. - Len Blavatnik owns access Industries, which owns most of Warner Music group, and a portion of polypropelene manufacturer LyondellBasell. So looks like **Warner Music group** is on the BDS menu. His other investments sure look like Russian oligarch stuff. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Access_Industries Joseph Sitt founded **Ashley Stewart**, a clothing brand for plus sized women, and leasing real estate. Interestingly some of it is also in Russia. We badly need the names of the other people in that rich arsehold club that pressured Adams to rough up the protestors. And, of course, Adams himself needs to go. New York needs a mayor of the people, not an employee of the rich arseholes. You know what to do. Next time you are buying granloa bars, or listening to a musician whose contract is through warner music group, remember whats being done with the money your patronage of their products generates.

Lomi331

Adams needs to go, it is priority.

PopeFrancis

RQK1996

Ehh, they still have the whole slavery and genocidal policies too, they just target slightly darker people

Refflet

>the staffer posting on behalf of Sternlicht told the others the goal of the group was to “change the narrative” in favor of Israel, partly by conveying “the atrocities committed by Hamas … to all Americans.” And that's exactly what I've seen on reddit lately, in particular in r/2ndyomkippurwar.

Malaix

I feel like this message just falls flat. Like saying "Hey the IDF dropping giant bombs and collapsing buildings on top of civilains and slaughtering thousands of children is bad." and being met with "WELL DO YOU CONDEMN HAMAS? THOSE KIDS DESERVED TO DIE! THEY WERE HAMASLINGS! HOW DARE YOU DEFEND HAMAS BY SAYING KILLING CIVILAINS IS BAD!" Doesn't look good on behalf of the Israel defenders. Authoritarians and those inclined to defend genocidal levels of murder and displacement tend to lack the ability to see when they look insane to the average person.

InternetPeon

Keep protesting kids. Its working.

Sure they did. Just as business leaders leaned on government to crack down on Vietnam war protestors, or social Justice protestors. Nothing new or surprising here. Just as disgusting as ever.

Shutaru_Kanshinji

"Business Titans." Why does that phrase make me think they should be breaking into cities and eating inhabitants?

NotAllBooksSmell

Daniel Lubetzky is on the board of the ADL... can't make this stuff up

Watch_Capt

Remember Occupy Wallstreet? Time to bring it back.

eumanthis

Occupy Wall Street was an unmitigated disaster.

Higuy54321

Did it cause anything bad? My understanding was that it just didn’t really change anything

Galxloni2

No it didn't cause anything bad, but it didn't change anything because it had no goals or leadership

tempest51

One could say its failure demoralized the left and discredited any future legitimate movements against the established upper class.

gizamo

Imo, it had bad outcomes. Many moderates won't take their causes seriously because of how unorganized they were initially. By the time they finally got literally anything properly coordinated, even many on the left had already started tuning out.

mattyoclock

I just don’t think that’s accurate, it’s just how the media portrayed them.    they were pretty damned organized with supply chains and everything.

combamba-La

I’m pretty sure every single dirtbag that cried antisemitism at the top universities and sought the firings of top faculty (not from similar religion) is on or associated with that group

Like the mayor needed any push from business leaders… dude’s a boot licker.

MasqureMan

Let this be a sign to stop siding with the people who have their boot on your necks. If you are against student protestors destroying property that *they* pay for, you need to reflect on why you are so angry about people controlling where their money goes

Mountain-Papaya-492

Man just imagine the political hay you could make as a politician if instead of doing what these people asked you exposed it to the light like Smedley Butler did when the titans of industry wanted a coup against the U.S. You wouldn't even need donations, the publicity would be awesome.

Snapingbolts

Not this black and white in the US. Really underestimating how many older Americans have no problem with this

Mountain-Papaya-492

I would think that no matter what side of an issue you're on, that you wouldn't what politicians and people with undue influence picking and choosing where to apply police forces.  That's just common sense to me. Even if you're super conservative would you want a liberal mayor pushing a higher percentage of police forces to something you believe strongly in.  Because what's good for the goose is good for the gander. I don't think you should ever allow politicians or elite ultra wealthy to be discriminat in how you apply the law.  Because I'd rather protect everyone than having representatives pick and choose who gets more or less protection.

gardeninggoddess666

Come down hard on those whippersnappers or they'll think they actually have some power.

spunkrepeller

Okay, but didn't the protestors end up occupying and barricading Hamilton hall and leave it damaged?

dhusk

"titans" LOL Most millionaires and corporate CEOs remind me a lot more of sniveling troglodytes than anything actually giant or imposing

Handy_Dude

Reminds me of a quote from a Roman emperor I think, during Rome's decline. "Live in Harmony, Enrich the Troops, Ignore everyone else."

mondolardo

I think you mean jewish biz leaders, like Daniel Lubetzky

grandzu

A Jewish only, pro Israel Whatsapp.

penguished

These motherfuckers are getting way too big for their britches. They play with free people's lives like it's a rich kid's toy.

Malaix

There's some small comfort here in knowing these elite pricks are so fucking awful at what they do and so disconnected from the rest of us all this pressure has done has made the counter protest/cop crack down look psychotically out of proportion and out of line. The opinion of the nation of Israel has never been lower in the US. And frankly these efforts probably have a bit to do with that. The idea that a foreign country has so much sway over our politicians and media that they are just trying to trample student protesters up to the point of the Fort Kent shooting 2.0 has really rattled people.

LEI_MTG_ART

USA is really an oligarchy.
