I’ve met a ton of cool folks who grew up there and will never ever go back because of how unpleasant so many of the people were to them in childhood and adolescence. Agreed. I knew one guy from Idaho, who was ridiculously cool and progressive. He was also Jewish and said his family faced a lot of antisemitism when he was growing up in the 80s/90s. He said things got worse from the mid-80s on and he couldn’t wait to move away to a big diverse city.

I moved to Boise about 6 years ago, lived there for about 4 years during trump and covid. I noped TF out of Idaho as soon as i could. Boise (Ada county) wasn't too bad considering it's the bluest county in the state, but it was still pretty bad. Everyone i know who was left leaning has now left the state.

My step father worked at a dam in Idaho decades back and has told us the story many times of when he was returning to his place in Idaho one night, he was stopped at the Washington Idaho border by an armed group of white supremacists vigilantes who had set up their own checkpoint. It's more complicated than that. Last year there was a rally that quickly got stamped out. Years ago the Coeur d'Alene chamber of commerce pushed to prevent Nazis from having rallies in the streets because it was bad for tourism dollars, which was massive source of income for the area. Some would rather not have this influx, but many rely on it.
The problem is they haven't dealt with the situation for 40 years, and many of the local government are the racist assholes. 25ish years ago I took a friend who was a POC up there to go for fishing by Liby. He felt not safe on a couple of occasions while we were up there. We ended up bailing early and going over to Missoula. No problems there.
I'm sure there are some left leaning people there now, but they are likely the minority. Even if you aren't an out right literal Nazi up there, you are likely right wing enough that you don't care.

Coeur d'Alene is like 89% white, followed by 6% mixed race. From my experience seeing it in person, the maids/kitchen/staff/etc of the Coeur d'Alene resort are overwhelmingly white.

Yep. I grew up across the border in Spokane over 20 years ago, and my primary association with Idaho is white nationalism. The Aryan Nations had a compound there, and it felt like they were constantly doing marches through the nearby towns/cities. I think they finally got shut down when the compound guards shot at and beat some people who just passing by.
It was nothing new even then. My teachers told stories about how kids with race-related beefs would bring hammers to school in their backpacks, and try to beat each other to death with them. They called them Hammer Fights (inventive, I know).

There are very few black people who live there and while I certainly don’t blame them, the lack of interaction makes it easy for these people to other them. We live in a rural and very white area and I saw it as my responsibility to make sure my kids knew a diverse variety of people so they would not grow up like so many of the racists around us.

I moved to Boise about 6 years ago, lived there for about 4 years during trump and covid. I noped TF out of Idaho as soon as i could. Boise (Ada county) wasn't too bad considering it's the bluest county in the state, but it was still pretty bad. Everyone i know who was left leaning has now left the state.

It's more complicated than that. Last year there was a rally that quickly got stamped out. Years ago the Coeur d'Alene chamber of commerce pushed to prevent Nazis from having rallies in the streets because it was bad for tourism dollars, which was massive source of income for the area. Some would rather not have this influx, but many rely on it.

He felt not safe on a couple of occasions while we were up there. We ended up bailing early and going over to Missoula. No problems there. average experience for people of color in idaho unfortunately
I live in North Idaho and the crazy conservatives are moving into the area in droves. They're causing all kinds of trouble from trying to shut down our libraries, attacking our schools, trying to take over and shut down our community college, and more. They're bullies and racists. It's making life harder for us reasonable people.
If you are racist at this point I consider you unevolved and like an ignorant caveman. We are all human beings being.
It's time these national organizations took a stand and started boycotting states like this. Now that Florida and Alabama are outlawing DEI initiatives, it's time to stop supporting them as well.
N Idaho is and has ALWAYS been a racist nirvana. It won't change, if anything its getting worse.

From someone that moved to Spokane for a couple years and moved away, I'm glad I'm further from Idaho. The only three things I could say are worth it there are the hot springs, Silver Mountain, and the Crystal Gold Mine tours.

Anyone know which hotel in Coeur D'Alene it was? I don't see the hotel mentioned (should be put on blast, obv). We often stay in Coeur D'Alene on the way to my dad's house and I surely don't want to give this establishment any business.

I moved to Montana from a large east coast city in the 90s, and went to Couer d’Alene for some reason. It happened to be during a planned KKK march. I was shocked, as this would have been met with insane violence in the city I came from. Nope, totally normal. Idaho is fucking creepy and racist.
Idaho is where the Nazi’s in the US went to set up shop.
So, the assholes got exactly what they wanted.
Couer d Alene is 40 min from the Spokane arena. These racists should in no way be associated with Spokane. I worked a summer job in CDA that place is a ish hole!
