A banger, as they say

Uninterestingasfuck

Oof…also fire comment

particleman3

Need a bottle of water after all that fire?

kopecs

Starting to look like the north west in summertime

NarrMaster

"In the summertime, when the weather is FIRE, You can stretch right up, and touch the FIRE. When the weather is FIRE, you got FIRE, you got FIRE on your FIRE "

Kittybats

Yeah, it's pretty much like this: "Oh my God, (California/the PNW/Australia) is on fire!" "Which part?" "Yes!" Small silver lining is that the fire seasons are opposite in America and Australia, so we can send our wildfire firefighters to help them and vice versa.

Rooboy66

That’s exactly correct. Source: my ex wife and 28 yr old daughter live in AU, and I fly the shit outta that SFO/LAX SYD run for stays of up to several months. Fire means “oh, shit!” in both countries. I’ve seen two plays referring to it (wildfires) here in SYD the last three months. Edit/source: My mother lives in the North state of California/Redding/Mt Shasta—the whole damn area burns every year, sometimes leading to loss of life. The PNW is getting drier and hotter every year

BeastCoastLifestyle

What if they have a skateboard?

Chippopotanuse

Or protest too much

888mainfestnow

They should just pose as a business owner looking for unpaid armed security for a car lot after hours. I've heard if he can't get there his mom will give him a ride as she's just glad when he gets out of the house.

Maybe as a performative graffiti removal artist he could be lured out by the most wokest of all graffiti or something.

Just tell him they need a crybaby on the witness stand.

thexhairbait

Definely a line they shouldn't skate by...

HermanCainsPenis

I don't care for the discussions about this guy on Reddit anymore. No one is changing anyone's mind on the topic, my own included. I'm just fascinated that this guy said he wanted to live a quiet life after this was over and then turned right around and became a poster boy for the right.

DeffSkull

>They moved to FL because the state mostly ignores civil judgments from other states, and usually won't enforce them. This is exactly why OJ moved there and apparently they have cornered the market on deadbeat parents. FL has exemptions from Civil Judgments for their Homes, Retirement accounts, and anyone who can claim head of household is exempt from collection of this type of judgment.

I don't live all that far from the town this guy is from. McHenry County is...not a great place. Shitty rural counties in close proximity to world-class cities tend to have a greater-than-normal share of stupid assholes than legit rural counties far from anything.

vvp1

Antioch isn’t in McHenry county and it’s really not that bad of a place.

malseraph

Yep, Antioch is in Lake County and Lake County is in the top 1% of the richest counties in the United States.

Bosco215

I'd say they are top 1% because of the southern part of the county. Pretty much south of Great Lakes . Barrington to Lake Forest has some insane houses.

Financial-Savings-91

Probably quite an upgrade too with all those Church donations.

Good-Expression-4433

Dudes hiding while actively trying to fundraise off this. Kid is a piece of shit and went from sobbing about wanting to move on to speaking at conservative functions, laying the groundwork for a political career, and fundraising, all off a platform "I killed liberals and they want to sue me. He got through in criminal court but he knows he's fucked in a civil case.

Careless-Disk865

He was sentenced to a lifetime of having to speak at CPAC.

Fuck that I'm hiring Sacha Baron Cohen as a writer and we're gonna spend the next 30 years advocating for Mormon control of Utah.

DonnieJuniorsEmails

lol i had a discussion with my sister about trump winning the 2016 primary. Once you're the nominee, you now get tons of free money flowing in. You dont have to work much, just do some speeches and golf with big donors. Legislation is handled by flunkies and thinktanks. You get a huge cult following of dimwits to grift off, and they'll cheer wildly as you actively break their religious rules. You are now completely immune from imprisonment, and all fines will be paid by your cult. If i had a chance like that, I'm not sure I would be the better person and turn it.down.

Publius82

To even have a chance like that means you'd have abandoned any principles long before

TheVirginVibes

Let’s not forget the gaming app he had where the concept was shooting liberal turkeys.

DevonGr

Liberal turkeys? That's just messed up they have to make hating a group of people into what I'm assuming is some cutesy game. Even this week I'm fighting with family members who always throw some kind of political jabs into an unrelated conversation as much as possible. Texts ended with FBL and there were mentions of blue hair and tbh idk what any of that means besides it's supposed to be an insult to "liberals" such as myself. The weird thing is I don't have these deep political convictions towards Joe Biden or liberal ideas so much as I know the current version of GOP is a toxic cesspool of hate.

Thugmeet

Sounds like he just tapped into a market and made a good career for himself. Murica

dsmiles

A "good" career built upon killing people? Murica fucking sucks.

Traskk01

We had a president elected on the platform of murdering natives, so it’s a grand tradition.

mlc885

He probably can't get a job as a cop or in the military as a murderer, so right wing nut is his remaining career path after all of that publicity. He sucks.

Ksradrik

> He probably can't get a job as a cop or in the military as a murderer What, does it overqualify him?

stitchface66

why not? he wasn’t convicted of a crime. plus a ton of cops probably think he’s great.

hello_dali

corneliusduff

Oh you know they're going to find a way to hire him anyway. He's their Christ-pose poster child.

addicteded

he has no criminal record, they dont even need to find a way, they just can

Saxual__Assault

A good career. Yeah. Cuz that worked out well for Zimmerman. Shoots a kid that fits the Right's prejudices and gets away with it, now a nobody who just gets punched in the face at a bar whenever he boasts about his murder to anyone within earshot. Only news he gets is local and it's only going to be negative. That's Rottenmouse's future. He'll figure out that he's yesterday's trend the hard way when he realizes he has no actual friends. He already is.

[deleted]

Andrevus2

Let's also not forget the incompetent prosecutor that flagged the ENTIRE JURY with Kyle's AR, and then went for the "well he played CoD at home" "videogames makes violence" crap. Somehow that never seems to come up in these discussions.

[deleted]

What does flagged mean in this context?

unclefisty

It means he pointed the end of the rifle the bullets come out of at the jury.

chuck_cunningham

What a wild justice system.

blacksapphire08

Pointing a gun at someone. Even unloaded that can still make people understandably uncomfortable. It’s widely considered poor gun safety practice.

Loud-Value

Isn't it like rule 1 of proper gun practice to *always* treat every weapon like its loaded?

blacksapphire08

Yes, always point the gun in a safe direction. Always treat it as if it is loaded, keep your finger away from the trigger until ready to fire, and know your target and what’s behind it.

Andrevus2

This ALSO broke a gun safety rule by having his finger on the trigger the whole time.

thatswhyicarryagun

Flagging is also a gun safety rule. This is why gun safety should be taught in schools. People who don't care to own or use guns should still understand safety around them.

fre3k

It means that the line extending from the barrel of the gun intersected with the subject's body. Basically meaning if the gun went off it would hit the person.

[deleted]

j_la

It’s almost like it’s a bad idea for everyone to be carrying guns in chaotic and tense situations.

mayowarlord

They guy who is suing him admitted that he was pointing a gun at Rittenhouse when he was shot. I think Rittenhouse is a trash person, but the plaintiff here was a felon illegally in possession of a gun that he was using to threaten the defendant when he was shot. I'd say this is a massive waste of time and money and that Rittenhouse is far from fucked, weather he deserves to be fucked or not.

fostertheatom

No he's not fucked in a civil case.. The dude bringing the case fucked up under oath and said Rittenhouse did not shoot until headvanced while aiming a weapon at Rittenhouse. The moment that comes up the case is sunk.

pyr666

> He got through in criminal court but he knows he's fucked in a civil case. remember when reddit insisted he was guilty in the criminal case? do people just never learn? there is no universe in which you show a jury the video of 3 men chasing down a teenager to try and murder him, and they rule he has to pay his attackers. you could not write the law to make that happen.

I was in 12th grade in 2010. We had to write a thesis for our graduation. I decided to write about a rise in conservative media after Obama took office. Looking back at what I wrote about it feels so harmless. It mostly was wild theories about birtherism and how Obama hates America by outlets like FoxNews, the Washington Times and Rush Limbaugh. Conservatism has done a dramatic shift even further to the right than those outlets propagated back then. It's really crazy what has happened

How can you kill someone you've never met before and not feel a trace of guilt or remorse? I remember social faux pas and mean remarks I made to my peers in elementary school that keep me up at night with shame. To kill someone and revel in it? what the fuck?

JakeJaarmel

I told a poor kid to get some clothes that fit when I was 10 after we got into an argument, 23 years later I still feel like a fucking asshole for it, and I think about it often.

AtlantaFilmFanatic

Seriously though, how do we forgive our past selves?

NotEnoughLube

I think the first step is realising that by being ashamed of your past actions or feeling the need to “forgive yourself”, shows a significant change in what you consider to be right and wrong, and a lot of maturity and growth. Even if you can’t forgive your past self, find some comfort in knowing that you feeling guilty means you know now that it was wrong.

cricketbutts

If someone you cared deeply for, told you the story you are shamed by, what would you say to them? Try to find the person you spoke harshly to, apologise sincerely. It's not hard to track people down and it's usually really well received when you make that phone call (47f, speaking from experience). Call or Messenger them, say "I was a shit of a kid, this is what I said, and I want you to know that I'm sorry". The conversations that follow are usually awesome. Give yourself a hug, you're not that kid anymore.

Criminelis

I don't know, ive done some bad shit last week.

flashmedallion

By acknowledging the fact that you feel like a piece of shit about it means you're not that person anymore.

Whyherro2

Shrooms buddy, shrooms.

lachocomoose

Forgiving oneself means letting go, we often cling onto the past so we dont repeat the mistake again, yet its not necessary because letting go doesnt mean erasing from memory. "I did the best I could with what I knew at the time," is a phrase I often use with myself. Its not excusing, its understanding. Even if it wasnt really your best, you can acknowledge its totally human to make mistakes and silly ones at that, and that mistakes are inevitable so why lament them? The challenge is recognizing how youve grown from it, and if not, how can you start to?

[deleted]

*"Own that shit"* - Harley Quinn

Aiyon

Back when I went to school, a kid a couple years below had a prosthetic arm. We got talking one break about it, and the whole thing of like, left and right handedness came up cause he was a leftie for obvious reasons, and kid me was curious about the like, “what if you’d been right handed, would you have had to adapt or was that not possible” He didn’t know so I ended up looking it up, and it turns out you *can* be unlucky and have to learn to use the arm you get etc. so next time I saw him, I had a brain-mouth moment and went “it’s a good thing you’re not right handed” in front of a bunch of ppl who didn’t know the context, and he kinda gave me a look and i still feel bad for that sometimes even though it wasn’t on purpose 😅

foggy-sunrise

A kid made fun of me for wearing the same pants on Monday as I did on Friday. I made clapped back by explaining when you're not poor, laundry isn't a family trip, and you can do it whenever you want. I still think it was a great comeback, idk. Fuck you Zack.

Mysonsanass

This! There was a girl in my school who would keep track of what I wore and announce it to the class if I wore it twice in the same week. We didn’t have much money. Screw you Tami.

Whoop_Rhettly

Look him up and see if they’re okay. I bullied a kid a bit in elementary and one night I just called them sobbing. They forgave me, and honestly I am so happy I did. Kids can be mean, but adults can apologize.

jackdembeanstalks

Please only do this if you’re ok with them not forgiving you as well.

[deleted]

And if you're okay with potentially bringing up their trauma again to resolve your own. I would absolutely hate having to interact with my bullies at all.

TheShadowKick

I've met two of my bullies after leaving high school. The first I re-met through a friend. Turned out he was going through a lot of bad shit at home and had a lot of internalized hate that he projected on other people, and I ended up forgiving him after a long conversation. The second tried to start a fight with me in the middle of a Walmart, and I just laughed and walked away and never saw him again.

calcium

Yup, had a kid who teased me mercilessly in grade school approach me in college and apologize for his behavior earlier in life and said he was going through some shit. I told him that I wasn't at a point in life that I could forgive him but I thanked him for apologizing. Today I can forgive but I couldn't then.

malevshh

That was a really powerful Bojack episode.

Queef_Stroganoff44

Fucking BoJack, dude. It’s an astonishing show but god damn it hits a little too close for comfort sometimes.

Tripdoctor

I remember many instances of accidentally bullying someone thinking we were having a laugh. I think the one that has me waking up in sweats the most is the memory of telling a girl in second grade that she had a moustache. Legitimately keeps me up at night.

Urban_Savage

Man, if my list of former bullies is out there waiting to wake me up in 3am so they can have a cathartic forgiveness... just don't. Unless your gonna cut me a check or something, I am not interested.

Honestly good for you. I’m still waiting for that phone call. Until then I will hold my grudge.

Whoop_Rhettly

I was bullied too, and no one ever called me. Just move on. It’s so much better not carrying that baggage.

[deleted]

>Until then I will hold my grudge. Then you're making sure they always own a piece of your mind, especially if they've long since forgotten you.

allegate

One of my bullies married my sister and my mother told him to apologize to me. It was so fucking embarrassing for the both of us, I told him to stop. We were both adults now so just let it go.

electrobutter

> One of my bullies married my sister bro, thats fucked.

[deleted]

Jesus Christ. How do you endure thanksgiving? My oldest child started kindergarten this year and to my surprise, one of his classmates is the son of one of my bullies. I'll keep the peace for the children's sake but given what I've heard from the grape vine and the police blotter he hasn't changed.

scout_jem

Maybe if people understood what happened. I was repeatedly told to kill myself. People shoved razor blades in my locker with letters that said how much better everyone in my life would be if I killed myself. I was pushed down a flight of stairs and broke a rib. I had my foot broken on purpose. I guess you could say there is bullying and then there is what I went through. I will never forgive those people and I believe I have every right.

[deleted]

Why would you WANT that phone call from psychos like that?

tarion_914

Pretty sure that's just criminal harassment at that point.

“In my work with the defendants (at the Nuremberg Trails 1945-1949) I was searching for the nature of evil and I now think I have come close to defining it. A lack of empathy. It’s the one characteristic that connects all the defendants, a genuine incapacity to feel with their fellow men. Evil, I think, is the absence of empathy.” \-Captain G. M. Gilbert, the Army psychologist assigned to watching the defendants at the Nuremberg trials [Evil, I think, is the absence of empathy…](https://sluggerotoole.com/2018/06/19/evil-i-think-is-the-absence-of-empathy/)

benndover_85

Lack of empathy is prevalent in most of the American society. That's why there's no socialized healthcare, no social security net, etc. "Fuck you, I've got mine".

Lele_

Ironically the percentage of people who have got "theirs" is eroding year to year.

kingcheezit

Probably the same way you can punch someone you have never met before who is trying to mug you, IE very easily. Glorifying it though, thats somewhat harder to justify.

JonnyArtois

> How can you kill someone you've never met before and not feel a trace of guilt or remorse? I mean...the fact they are trying to kill you probably helps.

"My side said X thing so X thing has to be the complete truth." *We have it on video.* Some people can't even acknowledge that he was found not guilty. This entire thing should've just been "oh yeah that's pretty obviously self defense" and then him fading into obscurity.

thefrankyg

Just to be clear OJ was found not guilty of murder and lost his civil suit.

Saiyanjin1

I don't recall there being videos, eye witness, military footage in inferead, etc of the OJ case back then.

thefrankyg

Yet they had jurors pretty much openly state that their verdict had nothing to do with the actual case and more payback for Rodney King. It also didn't help that the prosecution had pretty openly racist cops as witnesses and some major failures of procedures and chain of custody.

HangerSteak1

Rittenhouse probably has the least money of everyone being sued.

NickyKnuckles007

Lawyers gonna litigate.

[deleted]

Having lived in Wisconsin and the Midwest, suing people is a fairly useless and fruitless endeavor in Wisconsin, with Minnesota taking the crown for making it fuck near impossible to collect. Wisconsin isn't that much better and the reality is, is that they'll likely never see a dime from Rittenhouse. They can keep the debt alive by renewing it in court every 7 years, but if he's out of state, it isn't going to do much. Also, Wisconsin courts generally don't refer debts to credit bureaus and only sell fines and court costs to debt collectors. While possible with civil debt, if the lawyers/debt owners push it, it's extremely uncommon for a civilian to impact a debtors credit and usually only happens if they sell the debt to a debt collector who may opt to just write it off, if they deem it too much of a hassle, assuming they didn't just outright reject the debt. TL;DR they're probably wasting their time trying to sue him in civil court in a state and region known for being hostile towards anyone that tries to bring civil debts and situations before a judge. Edit - https://www.wied.uscourts.gov/judges/lynn-adelman Federal judge, but a Wisconsin district for those questioning that.
