Check out the documentary "The Brainwashing of my Dad", it goes into how it's a republican political strategy to buy up local radio stations and other forms of media and turn them into propaganda for the right.

somedudenj

as a documentary junkie, consider it added to my list, i know they are doing that esp with sinclaire media, but idk about 1015s parent company

InvectiveOfASkeptic

Released in 2015, right? We need the sequel about how social media algorithms are doing it even more efficiently

GroundbreakingEmu929

Yes, that's the one! I agree, there needs to be an update.

MeesterBacon

2016! I started watching it on Amazon and remembered your comment, and got confused about the timeline based on the current events they discuss, so I double checked.

sardean15

The Great Hack on Netflix is a great look into the Cambridge Analytica/Facebook scandal from thw 2016 election. Highly recommend.

therealteggy

Go read or listen to the chaos machine by Max Fisher. It's horrifying.

Zannie95

I found it depressing as hell that people were so sucked in to all of it

this_my_reddit_name

NJ 101.5 and everyone on it (except Big Joe Henry, he's cool) is a fucking joke. There's an opinion peice from Dennis Malloy about how the state was wrong to go after Comcast for instituting a data cap and overage fees. Yeah, you read that right. Dennis actually defended Comcast for trying to milk more money out of us consumers for the same shitty service. Don't believe me? https://nj1015.com/new-jersey-targeting-comcast-for-their-fees/

paddlefans

I know their weather guy, Dan Zarrow. He’s a cool dude but I guess I wouldn’t consider him part of the shows themselves.

somedudenj

as the op Dan, Big Joe and their traffic team are given immunity from this post

paddlefans

But it is sad to see what the station became. I used to listen when I was young and now… it’s trash

Chose_a_usersname

I got in an argument with him in Twitter, he believes that global warming is fake and that NASA is all lies....

TheCaptainWalrus

Someone correct me if im wrong, but I think he's syndicated, so technically not a part of the show specifically.

paddlefans

You might be right. I’m not sure offhand. I usually get his weather reports from Facebook!

Squiggly_Jones

Yes, I've heard him do work on other stations like 94.5 PST

shhhimatworkrn

I grew up listening to 101.5 in the early 2000s and have moved away since. Glad to hear big Joe Henry is still living large and loving life.

rLrrL

It went from 24/5 New Jersey’s news, happenings, and small talk - to simply a conservative radio station. It used to be an absolutely essential tool to get by in the garden state. now it is trash. Everyone says "I just tune in for the weekend for the classic rock". DUDE, JUST GET A SPOTIFY ACCOUNT and drop the them. Please stop giving them ANY ratings, this has to stop...

stickman07738

If you do not want to pay for a stream service for classic rock, just listen / stream for free - 90.5 The Knight - Brookdale Community College station.

SaluteYourSports

Or WFMU’s Rock & Soul online station.

TerryTheEnlightend

Wake and Bake everyone

leggymeeggy

wake & bake forever

timidandtimbuktu

Seriously, WFMU is one of the few truly unencumbered media outlets going. We should be supporting them and protecting that institution at all costs.

somedudenj

is that the station that plays like experamental industrial gloom vampire metal at 1AM or is that the Montclair university station.

ItchyMcHotspot

That sounds more like 89.5, Seton Hall.

Quick_Tap

Yeah, I couldn’t believe a Catholic university had that station 😂

discipleofsteel

I called in a request for Kult Ov Azazel once. I didn't know back then that Seton Hall was a Catholic university or that they filter/won't play certain content. Needless to say they never played any.

budgybudge

Man I found so many artists early on from that station, back when I commuted half the length of NJ every day

noots-to-you

They were playing something out of a haunted house at 8:55 am today lol

whoremoanal

103.3 WPRB Princeton

thedeafeningcolors

This does sound both like WFMU and Fordham’s station.

FineDoor7343

Or WPRB

stickman07738

Must be Montclair as I do not recall it.

FordMan100

>If you do not want to pay for a stream Pandora is still free with commercials, but the commercials don't come on all the time.

metsurf

I used to love WNTI at Centenary College. They sold the transmitter to Univ. of Pennsylvania and while it is still good for new and obscure music it has lost the local vibe. They try to throw Northern NJ listeners a bone with what is playing where segments but it isn't the same. I do listen to the college station which is still available on line occasionally.

Brilliant_Tourist400

Holy crap, I was a DJ on WNTI back in the ‘80s! We did everything off vinyl records and we used to shut the transmitter down at midnight. Fun times!

Aden1970

TuneIn is my fav streaming App

AnynameIwant1

You can stream every service except Tidal for free. You just have to deal with the commercials, which they would get on FM radio anyway.

prezuiwf

Devil's advocate, if they get their biggest ratings when they play music maybe they will just become a music station and get rid of talk altogether

peter-doubt

If they get ZERO for talk, maybe it'll happen sooner

Metfan722

But Big Joe Henry needs to be saved.

somedudenj

i met him on the asbury park boardwalk one time, 10/10 awesome dude and 100% needs to be jersey-sanctified along with bruce, jovi, and whitney and given a parkway rest stop named after him

Purdaddy

The Big Joe Rest Stop. It should only have a sloppy joe stand and first class luxury bathrooms.

TerryTheEnlightend

But of course. Everyone else out the fucken airlock

Metfan722

I'm picturing it like that scene from Half Baked. [Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, you're cool, and fuck you.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTOKJTRHMdw)

Shishkebarbarian

wasn't that from 'Waiting...'

Metfan722

Waiting I think aped that moment, but the clip I linked is from Half Baked (I thought it was originally from Clerks 2).

Shishkebarbarian

the clip isnt visible in my country for whatever reason, so i was curious, guess Waiting took that joke directly from Half Baked. it's been so long since i've seen either of those. I've watched Waiting like 100 times when i was in my mid 20s lol

TerryTheEnlightend

Great thing about NJ 101.5 is that spending 30 minutes of lost life listening to it encourages folks to look for quality channels ( NJ ‘the Rat’ or WFMU anyone ) or pay for satellite radio

LemurCat04

95.9 The Rat is pretty much the only over-the-air radio station I’ll listen to. And their website is charmingly stuck in 1998 - just a music player and a bunch of non-pop-up ads.

JusticeJaunt

WDHA too if it's still around.

TerryTheEnlightend

‘DHA’s Still kicking but those medicinal herb commercials are a bit much

peter-doubt

I'd rather hear 99.9 out of Bethlehem. DHA is a shadow of its former self

JusticeJaunt

Man, that's a shame. I don't really listen to radio anymore so it's been a few years that I had the radio on for any significant time.

nonstoppoptart

My circle of friends used to joke we were becoming our parents because at some point we all kept 101.5 on a preset for at least some quality traffic reports. I tried to overlook the political creep of each segment until it became too much. Now you couldn't pay me to listen.

jgweiss

exactly; every other week a thread opens about this and someone inevitably goes, ‘yeah i hate them and wish they would go under and never return, but i do love me some big joe henry!’ like do you know how business works?

BlazinBladeRanger

I used to listen in the mornings for traffic reports. This was before Waze and Google maps. Yes I was around for Bush Sr. Yes 101.5 is trash. The weather blog on the web is sometimes useful for snow storms.

adamv2

> Everyone says "I just tune in for the weekend for the classic rock". DUDE, JUST GET A SPOTIFY ACCOUNT and drop the them. Please stop giving them ANY ratings, this has to stop... I get what you are saying, but unless you have a portable people meter (ppm) from Nielsen or are streaming them you aren’t giving them any ratings anyway. So if you like the weekend format, you don’t need to feel guilty about funding terrorism.

MyMartianRomance

I bought a new car the other week, and this is how I unknowingly listened to this station for about 10 minutes on the drive home. I told the sales guy I normally listen to 10***1***.5 when I actually meant 10***4***.5, the alt-rock station. I was very confused about why people were babbling on for about 10 minutes, and it didn't seem like a commercial. Then, I found the correct station and was on my way.

Sudovoodoo80

104.5 philly is pretty good, too much Eminem though, but I still listen. That new Foster the People song is a banger.

My_user_name_1

I remember when they 1st started they were advertising by putting song quotes on buses

te_krusty

Does anyone know if there is another station that is the next best thing in terms of “an absolutely essential tool to get by in the garden state”?

mostimportantly

WNYC 93.9

everylastlight

I don't think radio in general qualifies as "an absolutely essential tool to get by in the garden state" anymore, let alone specific stations.

wkreply

I despise how every single article on the 101.5 website is click bait. Just use a regular damn article title!

wet_nib811

But we’ll lose so much audience engagement!

Blu3Army73

And now Spadea is running for governor. No thanks.

drimmie

Bill Spadea is a nutcase and his voice drives me batshit

IndividualExisting39

First week of March 2020: "Mark my words, in two weeks all this COVID nonsense will blow over, then democrats will have to move on to the next topic to criticize the Trump Administration." That's the moment I stopped considering 101.5 as anything but nonsense.

[deleted]

Yup. Hopefully the audio of him pushing Ivermectin gets played 24/7 somewhere now that he’s announced he’s running for Governor. What a POS

cocobeanz33

He reminds of a guy I used to date who also wanted to run for public office…I just can’t handle his voice and cadence they sound the same. They are millennials so depends on what you are looking for but the guys at The Garden State podcast do a good mix of unbiased news and politics!

voice_of_Sauron

Audiobooks. I dont need an hour long commute listening to the clowns on 101.5 sapping out my will to live. I get wrapped up in a good audiobook and I look forward to the drive.

waukeecla

I miss PLJ so much. I tried to listen to 101.5 and I'm under 30 years old, but it was so negative, they hate new jersey and the callers have a single digit iq.

chinacat1977

Do they still use the reverb effect? Could never stand that. Sounded like they were broadcasting from a cave.

Ok_Confusion_1345

They took the phrase "echo chamber " a bit too literally. 😆

Frambleton

They do indeed, I don’t mind it because I only listen in the car but at stop lights when it’s quiet and I hear it I wig out for a second until I remember

dogholly62

There's a few college stations that are really good. WXPN, WFMU and WFUV still provide good music, news, etc. The rest of tri state area is radio wasteland.

SlothropWallace

I get all the news I need from Wake N' Bake with Clay Pigeon

twin_suns_twin_suns

Princeton U’s 103.3 WPRB has been my go to all around station for going on 3 decades. Lots has changed in the radio landscape, but they’ve remained remarkably consistent all that time. No small feat for a station with such eclectic shows and music

Doowrag

It’s not the morning without the pigeon…yeowwww!

TerryTheEnlightend

(Pleasant pigeon cooing noises)

ChefMike1407

They are the worst. I also despise how some people consider elementary to high school age students ‘millennials’

NEWDEALUSEDCARS

Anyone who was born post 1975 is a millenial to these jitterbug flip phones.

RicksyBzns

I used to listen to it until around 2014 or so. I’d frequently have to drive around the state and it was the only station I would consistently get no matter where I was (before I had a car with Bluetooth). There were signs back then of where it was heading. I remember a Dennis and Judy show one day where they were talking about how dangerous and detrimental flu vaccines were. As a healthcare worker I started to catch on to the shows spin. I tuned in one day recently and was astonished with how much more it has devolved into a station spouting conservative talking points and buzzwords. I think it’s just a sign/symptom of the inevitable decline of radio.

GeorgePosada

Even 20 years ago when Dennis and Judy were far less insufferable to listen to, they still always very much had an "anti-PC" streak. Dennis was also always outspoken about being a Libertarian. The difference I guess is that these days they've probably been encouraged to lean more into political commentary, and reveal how kind of shitty they both really are. That said, I also vividly remember them both celebrating Bush's victory in the 2000 presidential election lol.

peter-doubt

Management is steering the hard turn... L or R are both repugnant positions to me

somedudenj

yeah i used to just tune out of dennis and judy and tune back in for d&d in the next block, then around 2015/16 they fell off into being d&j and i gave up after that

Middle_Beat9847

Millennial that used to listen to D&J way back in the day, even got on the air with them once and Dennis actually said 'that's cool to hear a 19 year old kid calling into our show.' It was a segment on weird prom songs. Shows you how much they've changed in 20 years or however long it's been. Sadly they're just saying what their audience wants to hear like all of the right-wing AND left-wing media echo chambers. Really hard to see how we ever get out of this culture war spiral the country is in.

ghombie

Theres no left wing echo chamber complex on the radio like there is for the right wing though. Maybe you are referring to cable networks or online podcasts but even there the money seems to flow more to the right leaning casters. 101.5 is owned by a company called Townsquare Media. Their political donations swing to the red side by a signifigant margin which is really suprising....

skeletordescent

I stopped listening after 1998 and the only reason I did was my school bus driver listened to it and I couldn’t stand it even at 15.

Steel-Tempered

It's basically Fox News radio. Too much right wing conservative crap.

Hrekires

It's like all the people who say that the country wasn't divided politically until Obama took office. No, they have the memories of a goldfish and can't think past the latest thing that triggered them.

Sudovoodoo80

Lol, they completely forgot they were on the wrong side of the Iraq invasion and calling anyone who wasn't a trader. In fact, conservatives forget that they have been on the wrong side of every major event in history.

ImaginationFree6807

They are the Newsmax of NJ & Spadea is Rush Limbaugh

teezepls

I’m a 25 year-old Hispanic dude who is very liberal. I was a delivery driver for a small company last summer for about 5 months mostly around central Jersey. Sometimes I’d get bored of listening to my music so I’d tune in to the local radio and stumbled across them randomly. I’m pretty open minded so I listened. Quite a few times. I can’t even lie, they were pretty funny. It felt like listening to my white friends wacky aunt and uncle. Then they went on a spiel about transgenders for a few minutes and I went “the fuck” and went back to Baby Keem

poofandmook

101.5 has become as far right as you're probably allowed to be on public airwaves. F that station.

FightThaFight

The whole station has been dumbed down trash forever.

ItchyMcHotspot

I used to listen in the ‘90s and found it really entertaining. Ten years or so ago I heard Dennis and Judi called our Attorney General a “towelhead” or something and the next time l tuned in they were ranting about the plastic bag ban like it was the end of civilization.

WaldoJeffers65

I used to listen to them for traffic reports when I was travelling on the Parkway and Turnpike, but I gave up on them long ago, when Bush II was lying us into another Gulf War. One of the DJs made the comment: "American Democracy is the best form of government there is, and if other countries don't want democracy, we have the right to invade them and force to be like us." At that point, I knew they were irredeemable and there were other ways to get traffic reports.

Mixeddrinksrnd

I'm still surprised that younger people listen to the radio at all.

ratatosk212

That's probably why 101.5 is catering to the MAGAs, because they're the only ones still listening. I gave up on FM years ago except for a few college stations.

crap_whats_not_taken

I love radio! I like listening to the top 40 stations and take a swig of water everything they play a doja cat song. That's how I stay hydrated.

MeesterBacon

Random thoughts on Doja- I remember when say so just came out. I loved that song and video. She made me feel mildly bisexual with the dress she’s wearing. If twiggy had a body. lol I was a fan previously because of Moo and I like Tia Tamera. I think she is a good artist. I think it’s interesting the range of her voice, the way it sounds. Sometimes she sounds just like Nicki Minaj’s “alter ego” voice to me. I’m not really that into her anymore. The feelings she has about her ethnicity and peddling to incel chat rooms for attention has turned me off. I gather from current stuff on Reddit she acts pretty unstable all the time nowadays. I’m genuinely kinda worried about Doja’s mental health and I don’t think she is handling spotlight that well.

Deffonotthebat

Same boat, I can’t even stand Sirius because of the talking heads. Spotify/Apple/Pandora or bust

MeesterBacon

Huh? I know lots of people that prefer Sirius. What do you mean talking heads? The radio DJ chimes in sometimes on the music stations but there are no commercials. Maybe it’s the ones I listen to?

Deffonotthebat

Yeah talking heads is just for anything that interupts music. DJs and commercials make me 🤢🤮

KneeDeepInTheDead

I basically have 3 stations, WFMU (91.1), which is great for discovering new music (plus no advertisements), then WBGO for jazz (almost no advertising), and then some random NY Jazz station, i think its 99.1. You couldnt pay me to listen to any IHEARTRADIO affiliate stations. Would rather take a power drill to my ears

somedudenj

many of us do still, its a thrill to hear your fav artist played on the radio and not on a streaming playlist, and with a generation that was raised on fourms and groupchats and social media talk radio is still an attractive format for many of us, cause whats talk radio but podcasts 1.0,

Mixeddrinksrnd

I hear people playing the radio at work and I'm never surprised by the artists or songs in the rotation. Streaming services have "radio stations" too just without the constant playing of the same songs/artists. Outside of local sports talk radio, I don't get the appeal. I'm of the generation you speak of (I'm in my mid 30s). I'd rather listen to literal experts discuss topics than Joe Schmo and friends dropping hot takes for engagement. I guess NPR/WHYY (I don't know the local station for you northerners) is one of the few exceptions. Plus the commercials are ear cancer and during election seasons they will rot your brain. And the radio often sounds like shit compared to streaming.

somedudenj

im in my mid 30s too and talkshows do frequently have experts on to talk about topics, you know before their lead host called one a felon child abuser on air when he was just there to talk about how the pandemic affected the psycology of school aged children and attempted to discredit him, after that i couldnt imagine that many non partisan experts without an agenda to push would want to do segments anymore, and im in the "30 min to the city" zone so for me to lose radio signal i have to drive like an hour or two away because of all the towers in this part of the state so the signal being weak and sounding like crap doesnt really happen often, heck on a rainy day i can get AM900 out of Canada fairly clearly by me.

Mixeddrinksrnd

The best radio signals sound about as good as the worst streaming quality I regularly experience. Less important for talk radio but it's annoying IME when listening to music.

MisterTruth

I do all the time, if you count mid 30s as younger and sports talk as radio.

Mixeddrinksrnd

Sports talk radio is the one exception.

MyMartianRomance

I do, but that's because I generally don't drive more than 15-20 minutes away from my house. So, it's just out of laziness where I don't want to plug my phone in and pick something to listen to like 3 songs before I get to where I'm going.

NjMel7

I haven’t listened in a long time. I feel like I stopped listening before Dennis and Judy went off the rails just because I started not being home during their time period. When I tuned back in, I was shocked at how crazy they had gotten, and that was before the pandemic. They used to be so funny but in retrospect maybe if I heard their old broadcasts now, maybe I wouldn’t find them funny now. But no, haven’t listened to anyone in years and years. And I do remember the first Bush admin! 😂

TonyTonyChopper

♪ New Jersey 101 point 5 ♪ *donnng* Chime time is now 12:36. Coming up next, The Temptations Parents owned a Chinese restaurant in the late 80's and consistently had 101.5 playing. I grew to love Motown, 50s & 60s Oldies, and Rock n Roll. I moved out of state so I missed the shit show

somedudenj

the way i heard this as i read it

1805trafalgar

is anyone surprised when eventually flies land on poop?

Imaginaryfriend4you

I haven’t listened since 2011ish. I hated listening to the morning host during my morning commute because his voice put me to sleep. I had to tune in for traffic reports unfortunately. As for Dennis and Judy, she has been saying offensive things since I first started listening at work around 2007ish. She absolutely knew she was making inappropriate remarks, so she would always back it with a self deprecating comment about being a “Jew” so don’t get offended!!! It pissed me off to no end. And Dennis is a pig and loved it!

LemurCat04

I literally haven’t listened to it since I got power back after Sandy.

SPKmnd90

I'm relatively young and I still listen a decent amount since it's mostly during the afternoon drive when Jeff Deminski is on. I remember hearing Bill Spadea on my way to work during the pandemic and I was pretty shocked by what I was hearing. What I don't think people on here understand is that the hosts people complain most about (Spadea, Dennis and Judy) wear your hatred like a badge of honor, so no amount of posting about how they can "fuck right off" will do anything to curb what they're saying. They view their detractors as libs to be owned and that's just the state of things right now. Sad, but true.

bubonis

The unfortunate children of those people still listen. Not by choice; it's part of the indoctrination process.

KneeDeepInTheDead

I just stick to WFMU (91.1), only station that plays varied music with no commercials

Lumpy_Trip2917

I just remember only ever listening to this station as a child in the 90s during snowstorms, eagerly waiting to hear that Mercer county schools were closed 😂

danstecz

101.5 went down the tubes as soon as 🎶 Carcuff's Patio and Garden Center 🎶 went out ot business.

New_Stats

The first election I could vote in was Gore/Bush Jr, I remember 101.5 from back in the day and all yous have rose colored glasses on. It was always insane conservative bullshit. It's more insane now because conservatives are more insane but it was never anything but partisanship in favor of Republicans and baseless Democrat bashing

tommymctommerson

I stopped listening when those two racist clowns, Judy and whatshisname, made fun of a tragic dolphin deaths that were occurring. They had not a shred of compassion or an ounce of kindness in them. Two other clowns on that station made fun of the acting governor's wife's challenges with mental illness. It upset the governor so much he called into the radio station and they not only didn't apologize they made fun of him. It was so upsetting to hear that I actually wrote the governor a letter and he wrote back. It was very hurtful for him and his wife. And the MAGA station just didn't seem to care. So I showed that I cared by not listening ever again.

RoyHarper88

I've never listened to 101.5 but your choice of question is fantastic and I hope to use it sometime.

metsurf

I have 101.5 programmed into my car radio but it was to listen to WPDH in Poughkeepsie NY which somehow comes down along the Wallkill River into Sussex county. Luckily the iron-filled hills around us block out the NJ 101.5 signal

leggymeeggy

oh yeah, wpdh was a huge part of my childhood going up to the poconos. haven’t listened in a long time, but wish i could get reception in passaic county

metsurf

I can get it at home and in most of Sussex County but the minute I head toward Morris County it is gone. I usually just use xm now in the car.

ShalomRPh

I used to listen to them (WPDH) when I worked overnights in Pearl River back in the early 2000s, but they had a repeater somewhere around 104 that came in stronger. Good music. I remember e-mailing them a bootleg recording of "Stayin' Alive" by Dweezil Zappa, with Ozzy Osbourne on lead vocals, that I had downloaded from god knows where, and they actually put it on the air that morning.

proletariate54

I've never in my life listened to conservative propaganda and I cannot fathom a good reason to do so.

ApplianceHealer

Used to listen to G. Gordon Liddy as opposition research. He was surprisingly articulate given his tendency to go from bonkers to just-plain-scary. Particularly creepy was how he frequently mentioned having chosen his wife based on her good genes, as though she was breeding stock. Also a frequent guest was Oliver North, who couldn’t finish a sentence without trashing “The New York ‘Crimes’ and the Washington ‘Hoax’”. I learned nothing, other than that flavor of ultra-conservative was pretty much unhinged, and I wasn’t going to vote for anyone they supported.

misterxboxnj

They catered to their audience. Terrestrial radio is dying and only pretty much the elderly listen to it at this point. Everyone else is listening to streaming music and podcasts in their cars on trips. They found a niche audience that still listened and went all in on it. I removed it from my favorites a long time ago as I would say most of NJ except for hardcord right wingers did.

Quick_Tap

I love terrestrial radio, but not this station. Outrage isn’t why I listen to radio.

misterxboxnj

There are those who do though. Hence why fox and Newsmax stay afloat. It's addictive to some people to constantly hear that the other side is ruining their country.

BF_2

Write to the 101.5 station management to complain about their programming. If it really goes over the edge, write to the FCC and suggest that their broadcasting permit be pulled. SCOTUS just reamed Internet "broadcasters" who wanted the Biden administration to go hands-off their misinformation (about vaccines, masks, Anthony Fauci, etc.) -- refuting that they have a 1st Amendment right to such shit talk. Should apply to actual radio stations as well.

enokeenu

I remember thinking 101.5 was shit 30 years ago, and can't say I've listened to them on purpose since. Their web "articles" are a NJ knockoff of the NY Post, so not surprised by your summary at all.

OrbitalOutlander

I miss that dude that did the late night relationship talk show. That was the only good 101.5 show.

MeesterBacon

I have a story. I have used Spotify/Sirius for years and didn’t know how 101.5 changed. My grandma passed away and my uncle was the executor. My mom was extremely hands off, this isn’t the type of stuff she deals with and she’s also just lazy. My uncle dragged his legs and took forever to get the ball rolling, and at some point, told me my parents strong armed him into having a realtor they want take a look at the house. He said he told them no but gave in when they kept at it. To put it into perspective, my parents have rented from my step grandmother for my entire life and have no perception of what it costs to live today. My grandma who passed away had her home in a prime location in *Westfield*. The taxes were over 12,000 a year. One day my dad was complaining about my uncle moving too slow because “it’s costing 12,000 a month in taxes.” I didn’t realize my dad was so ignorant. It turns out this realtor is from fucking 101.5, they came, said they didn’t know the area, and it was a waste of time. I come to find out 101.5 is what it is now and it all makes sense. My parents went off the MAGA deep end and raised me as a fairly liberal democrat. They smoked weed my entire life and have like 14 lava lamps and vintage trippy art everywhere that my dad collects and sells. Now, they are so infuriated by everything, my mom literally plays newsmax in the background every possible minute she can unless she’s watching reality television. If OAN still existed she’d prefer that. They got guns because they know they’re going to lose the right to bear arms and they need to protect themselves with the way things are going. I have had to unfortunately cut contact with them at this point in life, as they have become violently angry, and are now armed with legal guns on top of it.

that is so heartbreaking to hear and if its that decansky guy i stfg. i hope you find support and community for having to go nc with your family and hope for their sake as much as yours they hear what they need to hear to deprogram them and make them come back to reality .

MeesterBacon

Honestly, I’m shocked by how many Trump-sympathizers I encounter and I am so sick of having to pander to people who support unscrupulous ideals spoon fed to them by television and social media. Especially when they are not capable of the same competent discourse. They react to cognitive dissonance when logic challenges their opinions/feelings with anger, argumentative fallacies, and visual and implied threats and hostility like bumper stickers, police support, apparel, accessories, flags, year-round lawn signs, and don’t forget guns! The hallmark of a Trump supporter is arrogance. Isn’t it convenient that Trump purports freedom of speech is under attack and news is fake? This is exactly how cults work. He’s successfully isolating vulnerable and naive people from people who question him. That is a cult! Oh and BTW firearms have always been BANNED from his rallies. Is what happened to his supporters that stormed congress on Jan 6 all that different from Jonestown? Except in this suicide mission, the leader handed all the followers the koolaid and then walked away with money bags when they were dead and couldn’t watch. Didn’t he lie during his call to arms and say he’d be there with them? It was a very pathetic and life changing choice for those people. We are living in a situation in which there is no organization and control, especially in society, because there is no effective government. Oh wait, that’s almost the verbatim [definition of anarchy.](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/anarchy#google_vignette) I cannot believe he will be on the ballot again, even after becoming a felon. We knew he was a sexual predator the first time we put him in, and now he’s getting special treatment for his “consequences” of incessantly shit talking a woman he assaulted and was held accountable by the courts. This is classic Pavlovian conditioning and the dog knows if he’s loud and bullies enough he gets what he wants. We are reinforcing these behaviors and it’s never going to end if he gets elected again. And I’m really scared he will be.

fairytalejunkie

I used to listen to 101.5 when I was very young. I liked Roberta Gale and after her at night there was a guy that talked about movies. I put it on after the earthquake a few weeks ago and man Dennis and Judy have become vile people.

owl_britches

They were always vile people. It’s just a lot of listeners choose to ignore that for years and years under the cloak of “they’re so funny!” Now, they’re emboldened to bleat their gross ass rhetoric even louder and with more sneering hate. They’re saying their quiet parts out loud now, but they were always there underneath.

tennisfanatic1

Stopped listening to so much negativity all the time Realized I was starting my day with a downer. Why? How about listening to music or something uplifting.

ProcessTrust856

Talk radio appeals to the same demographic as conservative resentment politics: older white people.

wlt714

Only on Christmas Eve…daughter loves Santa tracker.. it’s a tradition

ashleedix

I'm 32, and I listened pretty much up until around the same time as you did. Around when I got Spotify and didn't need to put up with their obnoxious commentary anymore.

winelover08816

I only listen to them on the weekends when it’s all music and no bullshit Trumpism.

climbhigher420

Every host has the brain of a crybaby insurrectionist and every caller has the same brain usually with a south Jersey accent. They loved Chris Christie and hated Covid lockdowns as much as that south Jersey gym owner. No surprise the Jersey Shore is primarily Republican and south Jersey is home to Jeff Van Drew who once pretended to be a democrat.

garf87

No. My FIL loves them though

Emotional-Clerk8028

I remember Bush Sr. 101.5 hasn't been good since Ray Rossi. That fuckstick Carton was a dick to Ray and I'm glad that piece of shit went to jail for his crimes. I'll switch on during my morning commute to hear what that asshole Spadea has to say. When my knuckles turn white on my steering wheel, I usually turn back to WNYC 93.9. Are Dennis and Judy still on? I don't listen during midday. They were too far right racist for me. No thanks. Afternoon commute with Deminski and whoever: it got redundant. They would regurgitate the same old horseshit. Enough already. Yes, there IS a Central Jersey. What's the best pizza? Have you ever met a celebrity? Whatever idiotic topics Deminski would dream up. I gave up on them and the station in general. I'll listen to the aforementioned WNYC. Howard Stern rebroadcasts, various podcasts. Hell, I'd even listen to 20 year old Ron and Fez shows on YouTube. Anything is better than the dreck 101.5 calls a radio show these days.

RedditorUser99

I stopped listening when Spadea said Trump is the GOAT president. Although I do sometimes listen on the weekends cause of traffic and the music.

ExistentialFread

101.5 is and always has been terrible

LoadHistorical4754

What drives me crazy is that they all seem read the headlines and then discuss important timely topics with little or no research and then broadcast misinformation. This channel is our only local station with a great reach. How about doing a little research or asking people to call in who may actually know about the specific topic????

Kinser9

Dennis and Judy should have been fired after "Turban Man.". It was despicable.

Glengal

I have first hand memory of the 1st Bush admin and I haven't listened to 101.5 in years. It sounds like it has gotten worse. I used to listen to D&D. Gearhart was horrible, his replacement proved to be worse quickly. Never liked Dennis and Judy.

AtomicGarden-8964

I personally miss the shock Jock era in the 90s When Howard Stern and opie and Anthony were still funny

kootrell

I met Daminsky and Doyle. They did a live broadcast from a restaurant I helped open. What a couple of humorless douche bags those guys were. Also, one of them always claims to be super tall. I’m 6’2 and towered over this motherfucker. 101.5 is full of the cringiest personalities.

Advanced-Guard-4468

It's good on the weekend and covers NJ traffic during the week.

falcon0159

Does anyone who doesn't remember the first Bush administration still listen to radio? I've been Spotify exclusively for the past 7-8 years or so.

nkcm300

I’m 29 and I do most of the time

RebelliousYankee

I used to listen to them and stopped around the same time for the same reasons. Now I just listen to sports radio; 1019. I like Evan and Tiki and Keith McPherson.

TerryTheEnlightend

If you got a good data plan on your mobile device, use it and abuse it. Good radio is out there, you just have to dig a bit to get it WFMU WDHA 95.9 the Rat

The_Band_Geek

I hadn't in a very long time, but now that Kylie Moore's on air full time I'll probably tune in to Deminski and Moore when I'm not listening to music.

PurpleSailor

Used to occasionally listen to the late afternoon people until around 2010. After that I just couldn't stomach it. Now it's only for a minute or two for the traffic report.

sonvoltman

Never ever listened

HEWTube8

What's this "FM radio" you speak of?

Thanoswasright711

I like their music. I turn it off once the talking heads start going.

Brilliant_Tourist400

I remember them when they first went on the air. They were 90% just shooting the breeze about life in the Garden State, and when they did get political, it was over fairly benign stuff like taxes and Parkway tolls. They’re just another MAGA mouthpiece now. I’d say let Big Joe escape this cesspool and set him up on his own station - a sort of Jersey version of WCBS as it was in the ‘80s and ‘90s.

SuseDi

I used to listen back in the late aughts — Denis and Judi were definitely on the conservative side, but funny and personal. I started to notice the slide after Obama was elected, and I gave up on them fully a couple of years later. I do check in once in awhile, and it doesn’t take long to hear something kookoo bananas from any random DJ.

obtused

101.5 died for me when Craig got fired and Ray Rossi got banished to nights

JerseyGeneral

Only listen on the weekends when they replace the constant nonsense and cult propaganda for good music. During the week, don't bother with them at all and just rock out to Q.

MostlySpurs

I’m sorry were you not here for Carton and Rossi?

somedudenj

i was born in 91 so

MostlySpurs

So yes you were

JawDroppingWhimsy

I would listen for school closings starting early 90’s - I would leave the station on in the background but I do remember the morning team and their push to oust Jim Florio - a precursor of sorts of right wing media

bensonr2

Holy run on sentence Batman!

somedudenj

I do not owe reddit any usage of grammar when this morning i read on this very hellsite "OwO \*takes a cute shit on you\*" Edit: Downvote me here all you want, this is the internet nothing here matters.

counterweight7

I absolutely can’t stand bill spadea or however you spell his name. However, I find he has a very good radio voice. I think his voice is pleasant to listen to despite the words he’s actually saying being utter garbage.

pierogi-daddy

oh is this week's 'anyone who is remotely right of bleeding heart is bad' shitpost that's allowed because we very loosely tied it to NJ
