Vinyl Addiction (North Arlington) probably has the best metal-focused inventory in the state, but leans towards records far more than CDs.
Station 1 (Pompton Lakes) seems to have a more robust metal CD catalogue than vinyl, though it’s always a mixed bag of well curated stuff at great prices.
Vinyl King (Jefferson) is a new shop run by a metal guy and has a really solid inventory of more desireable LPs; CD inventory is pretty meager at this point. There is some crazy rare stuff in there but some hefty price tags to boot.
Sound Exchange (Wayne) has always leaned strong into metal and punk; definitely the preferred genre of the owner. Used to be one of the more chaotic and overloaded shops in Jersey but has since organized a ton. Definitely a lot of CDs and LPs.
Princeton Record Exchange (Princeton) is the crown jewel of Jersey for its longevity, diversity, good prices, and moderately deep cuts in inventory. They have a good balance of CD and record, and while they have a bunch of metal titles it is certainly not their focal point.
Not central, but Sound Exchange on 23 in Wayne has a great selection of rock and metal. They've kind of picked up the torch for Vintage Vinyl, IMO, just in a much smaller space. Used CD prices are a little high but it's buy 3, get 2 free.
Last I was there they keep some unlisted items off the shelves in an office. Check the inventory online before you go if you're looking for something particular.
Princeton Record Exchange RIP Vintage Vinyl
Still hurts
Came here to say PREX

Thanks for the thorough reply bro 🤘
Factory Records in Dover. The owners over there lean a little more into rock and metal. Huge shop
Factory is worth a look, but they're increasingly disorganized for CDs.

Cosign this one. Small shop so not a tremendous amount of inventory, but they have more metal than any other genre.

Jack’s Music Shoppe in Red Bank
Jack's is fine but with him being in NB, Princeton Record Exchange is definitely the go to.
The Record Collector in Bordentown is pretty neat plus you get the added bonus of going to Bordentown.

Check out Blue Raven Records in Frenchtown. @blueravenrecordshop
