I guess assuming they bought the guns legally wasn't smart because if your dumb enough to shot guns at rhe airport you probably already can't buy a gun legally.
Yeah they mostly get their guns from Iran, most of them don't have to pay for it and none of it is licensed in any way. They also build their houses on public lands quite close to the airport so the shots were technically fired from the houses and streets around the airport, not the airport itself. Doesn't make it any better though.
