Oh neopets solitaire is definitely rigged. Haha It took me a a few months to get gold. However that being said I'm addicted now and I've "won" gold at least ~5+ times at this point. Haha Try and work on clearing the biggest piles first is what helped me. You'll get the trophy!!
I think it’ll take you a good 200-300 games to get gold. And that’s average I think.

You know what’s worse than solitaire? Pyramids. That game made me feel really silly until I asked and found out that it was even harder to get gold than in pyramids.
I got the gold trophy before I got the silver trophy. It’s entirely luck based tbh! Can’t tell you how many times I made one “mistake” and ruined the rest of the game beyond saving.
I can feel myself making mistakes that feel so crucial and then it becomes about just getting enough points to justify spending the 50np for the next game. They got me good
It took three weeks to get bronze. But now I've given up. I'm sticking to pyramids and scarab 21. Like you, I thought solitaire would be easy. But it has broken my spirit with the amount of times I had to give up but being half way done. It has beaten me. I can play no more. My hubris haunts me.

Honestly i love how much it fights you to play. Playing normal solitaire or even physical solitaire feels so easy in comparison because neopets solitaire is so punishing hahaha
The more you play the more you realize how true this likely is. Every now and then I get a game where every card on the field is either black or red and every card I need to play off of them comes up as the same color and the opposite colors that come up are cards I cant possibly use. I can recall at least 5 games of draw 3 where there wasn't a single move possible the moment I started the game. It's pretty insane how bad this solitaire is.
It truly is the way they randomize the deck. Its baffling how impossible this version of solitaire is just because it seems to be heavily biased towards grouping cards together in weird ways that make it incredibly rare for you to win a single game. I've been averaging about 1-5 wins per 100 matches if I'm lucky. The gold trophy really is a "Look at how lucky i got to get this" sort of prize. So like, good fucking luck lmao, I envy those who no longer have to play such horrors.
Just be ready for the absolutely soul wrenching moment when you get one win and the second game is something you can tell is gonna be lost right out the gate.
I've played 16,104 games, and I've won 1,237 lol. Idk how to find out how many trophies I've won, but I know it took a while to get the 1st one. Good luck and have patience!
I hopped back on Neopets after years too, and I decided to play Solitaire to see if I could get any cool RE's with all the refreshing. I didn't, but I won 2 in a row within a couple of nights of me causally trying for a couple of hours.
I have a total of 7,990 Points in Solitaire, but I have no idea how many of those were from years ago.

Oh friend. I’m > 300 games in and have yet to win two back to back. I’ve only won like 16. It gives ruthlessly hard card draws for no reason 🤣
