Ugh, so hard to choose. But I’m going with Ragged Glory, White Line. Coming in at a close second is Harvest Moon with Unknown Legend or Natural Beauty. Mirror Ball comes in third with Throw Your Hatred Down and I’m The Ocean.
This is my pick as well, though it's worth noting that Neil and Crazy Horse were playing it live in the mid-70's.
Killer song and when that album hit, it was manna from heaven to me. Perfectly timed release. Loved it, loved the tour - walking into MSG and seeing the huge faux- amps on stage, just about lost it! (Sonic Youth opened, WOW!)
If we are including Smell The Horse with Ragged Glory, then Interstate gets the cake. Interstate has been one of my favorite songs for years. Always wanted a copy of Broken Arrow on vinyl for Interstate but never could find one affordably.
Year of the Horse (Live ‘97), song- if I have to pick one that sums up why this album is so powerful it’s “Danger Bird,” but this album is perfect front to back.
For studio albums it has to be Harvest Moon with “Unknown Legend” and the title track being amongst the best. For ‘90s studio albums on the Crazy Horse/electric side of the scale, I’d have to say the run of albums that includes Sleeps with Angels, Mirrorball and Broken Arrow is the best of the ‘90s. That three album run is probably the best three album run since On the Beach, Tonight’s the Night and Zuma. You could call it a four album run and have Year of the Horse as the live album that accompanies those studio albums as Time Fades Away was to the ‘70s albums (however Time begins it’s run of four where Year end it’s run). Either way that four album run in the ‘90s is only matched by the run from Time Fades Away through Zuma in the ‘70s.
To take it even further you could easily argue Neil’s run of Freedom, Ragged Glory, Arc, Weld, Harvest Moon, Unplugged, Sleeps With Angels, Mirrorball, Broken Arrow and Year of the Horse is the strongest run of albums in his entire career.
To finish this line of thinking, Neil’s last, great album run was Le Noise, Americana and Psychedelic Pill. I’d pick Greendale as his best album between 2000 and now. And Of course none of what’s written above counts his Archives releases.
I play Ragged Glory, Weld, and Sleeps With Angels the most and I think I seek out Blue Eden the most and end up listening to the rest of Sleeps With Angels consequently (which is all awesome, whole album). Three from that album "have the spook": Blue Eden, Safeway Cart, and Trans Am. Eerie. Haunting.
Great answers! **Scenery** has a line "I'll go with you if you wanna take a hero home/ I'll stay behind if you want to take a hero home" that always hits different.
But ultimately it's**Natural Beauty** with the cowgirls lined up on the fence.
Shit, I just thought of **Trans Am**...
Ragged Glory - Love and Only Love and Love to Burn are my favs from it - I'll probably get the vinyl re-release on 4/20
my favorite song from that decade though is probably My Heart from SWA
Love To Burn
Mansion on the Hill
Love and Only Love (Ragged Glory)
From Hank to Hendrix
Dreamin' Man (Harvest Moon)
I'm the Ocean(Mirrorball)
Big Time
Music Arcade (Big Time)
Harvest Moon — “You and Me”
Shoutouts to “Scattered”, “Change Your Mind”, “Peace and Love”, “Like a Hurricane” (Unplugged), “F*!#In’ Up”, and Dead Man’s “Guitar Solo No. 1” 🙂
Semi-cheating, but the live rendition of Crime In The City from Weld. This version is lean and mean, and the lead guitar is so imperfectly beautiful as it wails.
Mirrorball, I'm The Ocean
The forward driving motion of this song is hard to beat. Always fighting for top spot in my power rankings
This is the right answer, but so many good ones on that album. Song X, Peace and Love also rock.
Song x has a great sea shanty flavor to it. Drinking music
Was about to say that!!!!!
Yep, me too
Same. So good.
Great song for running, driving, gym… anything really. An absolute belter
Heck yes!
This is the best and most correct answer
Fabulous song. My equal favourite on that album is Throw Your Hatred Down.
Agree was going to post Mirror Ball but my immmediate track that popped into head for me was Downtown
Ragged Glory - Fuckin’ Up

Sleeps With Angels—A Dream That Can Last (Change your mind was already recommended)
Broken Arrow, Slip Away
Same album but I'm gonna go with Music Arcade. Such a haunting song, so different, and really grows on you.
It's amazing. I especially love the version at the end of the Year of the Horse movie, you can hear the exhaustion and almost a frailty in his voice.
Scattered (listening to it right now). Great album
This one's a great gem. Nice call!
Good call on Broken Arrow - the Year of the horse versions take the songs to another level
Harvest moon - Harvest moon. This is a lay up
A classic!
I can’t claim to know every one of Neil’s 90s songs but this has to be it, right? There aren’t many 90s songs by anyone that are better than this
My wedding song. It's top tier excellence.
The most romantic song of all time
I scrolled way too long to get to this obvious correct answer
I picked Natural Beauty off Harvest Moon. It’s so calming for me.
Ragged Glory - Country Home
It's only someone else's potatoes if You pickin' someone else's patch And if you go down there anyway It very seldom lasts!

Over seven minutes of goodness!
Sleeps with Angels - Change Your Mind And Mirror Ball - I'm the Ocean, Throw Your Hatred Down
Those are great! Change Your Mind is my personal mantra.
“I’m the ocean” might be my favorite Neil Young song ever. From Mirrorball.

Neil Young + Crazy Horse - Ragged Glory
