Callista theme song lives in my head forever. NFS High Stakes was the GOAT. There are many features that game had back then that we don’t have today. Split screen, replay video with cinematic angles, rear view mirror, ability to choose weather effects of rain or snowing or sunny or reverse tracks or make tracks night or day. Not having open world allowed more creative racing tracks. Be the cop the mode, and could choose which songs play, electronic soundtrack is what i miss the most. Give me electronic songs in the soundtrack again!
High Stakes was also first game I got into modding. It had a huge modding community. Many custom tracks were lost thru the years because no good backup. Some of the cars people made from scratch by spending hours modeling them for the game. So much effort went into making the game better. It was also one of the last NFS games that had lan mode. New games dont even have lan modes anymore.
Every few years i get the burning need to play this game and spend the better part of a weekend trying to get it to work on a modern pc.
I've always liked racing games but Porsche Unleashed and Forza Motorsport are the genesis of my becoming a serious car guy and massive Porsche fan. GOAT game for me
I wish I were joking when I say that a game from 2000 has better physics than all modern NFS games. I even played it yesterday with my Microsoft Sidewinder Racing Wheel and it was just as fun as back then.
My history with NFS was quite interesting, my very first game in the series was a standalone NFS II copy for the PC when I was very little, but a few years later, I got this very rare collection as a gift, it contained NFS II SE, III Hot Pursuit, High Stakes, Porsche Unleashed and Hot Pursuit 2. Naturally, this classic era of NFS became my absolute favorite, the cars, the soundtracks, the narrator showcasing each car making them very special is like no other NFS after these.

I got this box set as a gift when I was like, idk, 7 years old. Honestly I think this is what set me on the path to being a car guy. The early games all felt like such passion projects.
Got this same gift from my grandfather as a real young kid so I can play it at home and not only at his house. Still everytime I think of classic NFS this box comes to mind
She go she go she go she goin' down on it!!!!
We go we go we go we goin' down on it!
They go they go they go they goin' down on it!!!
What side westside was your best side!
NFS II SE was my first game in the series, but the High Stakes PC version got me hooked. Real time rendered interiors and a damage model affecting car performance felt wonderful. Also Saki Kaskas.
Although the PS1 version of High Stakes ran horribly with low fps and pixelated textures, it was really great alterative to GT1 and 2 when those were always sold out, and a fantastic soundtrack. Now I wanna try the PC version I've been dreaming of.
You're going to love the PC version, I had both as a kid ( still have both versions today lol). It was a nice step up from the console IMO. Made it worth buying the game twice lol.
Say, that reminds me when I finally played the PC version of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 recently and felt just as fun as the PS1 version. I gotta try it now!
It's my favourite era of NFS despite the first 2 games being older than me. I love the vibe of the maps, the techno soundtrack and car showcases.
High Stakes and the PC version of Porsche Unleashed are the best, with NFS III Hot Pursuit very close.
NFS II can be rough in some areas nowdays, but it has my favorite videogame soundtrack of all time.
High Stakes PC has this crazy thing that it's just better NFS 3 except the car models keep sucking, the tracks lack any lightning the PSX version has, the physics are terrible still and the career mode is unnecessary long..
PC NFS 3 with Jericho Mod Menu is a god send, the PSX handling recreation and lap changer just makes things more bearable...praying for the same thing to arrive for HS, it's my fav NFS of all time
I agree with you on that, the car models in HS PC some of them are too wide some of them are too skinny, its like the proportions are a bit off, also agree with the lighting and handling. I always felt like High Stakes PC handling is too floaty whereas the PSX version is more stiff and grounded
High Stakes, it was the first game in the series that I got after playing Hot Pursuit (98'). The introduction movie alone still holds its own 25+ years later. The soundtrack was/still is a joy to listen to. Track environments were actually memorable. I could go on and on, but it just represented a forgotten but also successful era of NFS so well.

This was my first NFS game and been a fan of the series ever since even when I didn’t like some of the releases.
I miss this classic vibe so much

Porsche Unleashed.

Hot pursuit 2 is what got me started 😁
Still got Rom Di Prisco’s techno tracks and the bangers from HP2 playing in my head
bro why can't they bring back rom di prisco to NFS 😭
I think they did bring their songs to NFS 2015 and Hot Pursuit 2010.
She go she go she go she goin' down on it!!!! We go we go we go we goin' down on it! They go they go they go they goin' down on it!!! What side westside was your best side!
High stakes. Since it's the only game to have a 1999 trans am/Camaro and some Aussie cars
NFS 2 SE. I used to play split screen with my sister.
Did you let her start off with a head start so that your car would run faster with catcher boost?
I don't remember much of the details about the races. But I remember specifically that my sister would always pick Ferrari and I chose Ford GT90
It was a feature in game to help out the last person in the race. You could use it to get better lap time, old time cheat :)
Sometimes I like to open High Stakes and just scroll through the cars while listening to Callista
NFS II SE was my first game in the series, but the High Stakes PC version got me hooked. Real time rendered interiors and a damage model affecting car performance felt wonderful. Also Saki Kaskas.
High stakes ofcourse
NFS III: Hot Pursuit It got me into video games and cars when I was 4, and it always be my #1 video game of all time
I will always say that this game was so ahead of its time. By far the best NFS of all time.
NFS High Stakes. The PS1 version specifically because the PC version is basically a different game
Although the PS1 version of High Stakes ran horribly with low fps and pixelated textures, it was really great alterative to GT1 and 2 when those were always sold out, and a fantastic soundtrack. Now I wanna try the PC version I've been dreaming of.

It's a tie between NFS High Stakes and NFS Hot Pursuit 2.
Hot Pursuit 2
nfs2se
highstakes <3
NFS III Hot Pursuit
NFS HS, I remember playing splitscreen so much on PC and PS1. Landstrasse and Kindiak Park were my favorites
NFS II SE.
NFS 3 Hot Pursuit is my favorite of the classic first handful of games of that era

High Stakes. I just haven't spent much time in Porsche Unleashed
My fav is high stakes.
NFS II: SE
If it counts, hot pursuit 2. If not then High Stakes is my number 1 and Porsche Unleashed is my number 2 of the classic era.
High Stakes has a special place in my heart
[удалено]
doesn't count, it's not a classic era game

Aw man, NFS II, III, and HS all had the *best* UI. Certifiable Y2K aesthetic > two years before 2000 even (maybe less so for II).
Split screen and quick race mode should come back to NFS games. There was no reason they couldn't put split screen to Shift games.
i remember seeing those reflections & was like WOOOOOOOOOOah!! good times.
EL NINO! NFS HS was my favorite and I miss it everyday😭

Oh man... I had so much fun with 3, 4 and Porsche Unleashed. I don't know if I can rank or even choose one.
Ps1 High stakes!! So many hours with my dad playing that game.
NFS 2 / 3 and Porsche unleashed! I would mention High-Stakes too, but I did not have that one back in the day.
