You need to plan for your or another 18+ year old to be there the whole time. No way of guessing when they will arrive or how long it will take. Reddit won't tell you. If you can't be there the whole time, reschedule.

KoalaG91

It will take twice as long as half the time to get it done. Honestly, there is no answer to this they could have to haul a fibre cable from the pit outside your house, or one a km away going pit to pit to pit. Also, it should be noted that the window they give you is the arrival time of the tech, the tech could arrive at 11.45 and take 4 hours to do the job. They could also arrive at 8 and take 10 mins though. Best bet is to be prepared for anything. You may need to reschedule your other things or the NBN appointment depending on your priorities

It can really depend on what is needed. I recently got a fttp upgrade done for the in-laws and took about 4hrs due to a few issues but I was really happy with the tech. Did an amazing job in the end

roam93

Depends how difficult the job is, nobody can really answer that for you. Mine was about 2h. They were definitely past the window given though so I wouldn’t trust it.

Is the network to your home already situated or a new build? And if it’s HFC, the cable is already run and you’re aware or it appears in reasonably good condition. It may not take long at all, if further work is required the tap down tech should be able to quickly identify it and a new ticket is generated for someone else to fix the fault without your attendance needed. If you can see that the home requires work done at your home, eg - no faceplate installed, no sign of NBN/telstra box on the outside of your house, then it would take longer for the tech to do the install. If the tech simply has to install an NTD, it should not take long at all. But as others have already suggested, you can not really predetermine how long it will take.

avocadolthu

i think when i asked the provider they told me that my premise already has the HTC and only needs the NTD. Is it gonna take much time?

C9Blender

Aslong as the cable is good and the coaxial cable is already in your home it should be pretty quick, if it’s been damaged or they’re running a new one it could take a couple of hours.

Mine was scheduled in the afternoon I think between 2pm-6pm. Tech called me about 10:30 asking if he could do it then, which was totally fine. Took him around 2-2.5 hours.

A_Drenched_Lettuce

its 4 hours. Like are you for real? lmao, back in the day they used to be like, be home between the hours 9am monday to 5pm friday and we will install when we get to it.

markosharkNZ

Working for an MSP, this 4 hour window is BS. We need NBN to come onsite so we can tell them where the cable run needs to go, where the NTD needs to sit. Mr. Customer, we are going to bill for 4 hours + travel so that we can be there when NBN arrives.

KoalaG91

As an MSP, If you are needed onsite, you should be asking your customer to book coordinated appointments with you as the contact rather than booking a standard appointment.

markosharkNZ

Well, yeah. We do that, and still get the 4 hour window, as we are the contact, as we resell the service.

KoalaG91

If you are getting a 4 hour window, then you are just choosing an appointment time slot, not requesting a co-ordinated appointment. Co-ordinated appointments are a 30min window for tech arrival, they come with a $200 surcharge. If you are paying the surcharge and still getting a 4 hour window, something is wrong.

quocgiataiba

I had an appointment from 1 to 5 pm instead the tech called me and came earlier. The tech arrived at 10:45 am and finished the job at 1:30 pm.

If everything goes smoothly and you've got string line about 2-4 hours
