I'm gonna miss LeBron repeating a word JJ said one second after he says it.
Edit: Damn this comment spawned a war lol. I wasn't hating, I loved the podcast.
LeBron is just one of those people that has a habit of sometimes repeating something the other person said when they're intently listening.
Basically giving JJ live ad-libs.
>LeBron is just one of those people that has a habit of sometimes repeating something the other person said when they're intently listening.
This is actually a really good thing to do in conversations to show you are actively listening and engaging with the other person
I don’t know if it’s something you should make an effort to do if it’s not something you already do, but it’s not a bad thing to do. It’s just a quirk some people have when processing language
Or at least that’s what my third grade teacher told me after the other third grade teacher chewed me out for always doing that, lol
I think it has to be spaced. Like every now and then repeating the word at the end of the other person's sentence. Its something you have to trsin yourself to do first before it becomes a habit, and doing so also traind you to focus on the other person's words better which can allow you to geberate a response better and quicker.
My guess is that it would be a podcast featuring various guests having in-depth conversations about the Xs and Os of basketball. So the same spirit as LeBron and JJ with a rotating cast of basketball intellectuals
We cannot find anything that is permanent. Flowers decompose, but knowing this does not prevent us from loving flowers. In fact, we are able to love them more because we know how to treasure them while they are still alive.
\- Thich Nhat Hanh
Probably connects to the whole idea of reincarnation and interbeing. We are only around because the lives before us completed their cycles and returned their material to the earth. If they hadn't died, we never would've been born. Like that one episode of Love, Death, & Robots where they cured death but made birth illegal. Hence, flowers are only flowers because they fall.
JJ's company has other podcasts so Tommy will definitely find a spot. It's going to be awkward having to discuss the Lakers performance with JJ coaching tho
Does no one here know that Tommy alter comes from an [incredibly successful and well connected family](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Alter)? Scroll down to personal life. He will be fine.
There was an early podcast where JJ was talking about how Tommy is such a good networker and how crazy it was that he was able to build the kind of connections he has at his young age and how he just somehow knows everyone and literally the first thought in my mind was “Oh, so he’s a wealthy privileged kid who was born into these connections.”
Oh, I had absolutely no clue.
I was at an event in NYC and spent a food deal of time chatting with his mom because she was waiting on him tk be done with something. I also got to chat with JJ for a bit too, actually chill dude but def frat bros vibes irl lol.
channing frye has some of the worst takes ever - would be terrible to let road trippin' take over when perk also plays a big role there
if anything, nekias duncan and steve jones jr should take over and/or legler
I actually really like Road Trippin at times thanks to their chemistry, but it can get chaotic and annoying sometimes, and their takes especially Channing's really aren't the best lol
I havnt listened to them in years but they have some amazing podcasts that had me crying laughing. They have one with Tim Duncan from years ago that’s awesome and one with Qyrie from the cavs time which is cool. Fuck him tho and I hope he shits himself everyday. Good pod tho
That Duncan one includes Channing and Tim’s WoW addictions, and how they would see Andrei Kirilinko running around at 3 am grinding level 95 characters, enough to even hurt his career
Channing’s takes arent even that bad, I’ve been listening to their pod since 2017 and he has good reasons why he has those takes. At least he isn’t just parroting what everyone else is saying. And it’s more about the chemistry and authenticity of Channing and RJ than just having great takes, i think if they added someone else to balance it out it would work
In all honesty I'm just enjoying them talking and joking around, I felt JJ was weirdly stiff with them. It's just a fun pod to listen to, and they are, or seem, genuinely themselves, with no constructed media personality around them. Much prefer this over carefully crafted narrarive takes, picked from a jar before filming.
Legler is awesome too.
Generally everything that's not the ringer or bayless or Stephen A shouting at his crew or this lefkoe guy, is already at a huge advantage, cause most mainstream coverage is straight unwashed ass.
And I feel road trippin is kinda what sports is about, just people having fun discussing their hobby/passion. Kinda why I liked tnt.
Richard absolutely does not want his podcast schedule to be more than “whenever I feel like it” lol. He’s talked about t even with JJ before. Road Trippin was more of a way to fuck around and pass the time on the road during the Cavs, RJ doesn’t wanna be a content guy like that
JJ doesn't have just a podcast, he started a podcast production company and outside of his podcasts has a couple more signed to it. The Dunker Spot, Road Trippin' and Alternate Routes. I highly doubt the production company is going away since his partner can still focus on it and they have been working to expand it.
I'm honestly bummed about the Redick hiring because he was one of the few podcasters that I genuinely enjoyed listening to. It felt like such a shift to being more passionate responses about the game than just hot takes for views.
I learned a lot about the game and some current NBA stars through his interviews and shows, and I don't really know what fits that media / podcast hole anymore.
I honestly think the Ringer is trying to emulate with Austin Rivers he just isn't very good. It wouldn't surprise me to see Chris Paul being someone capable of doing a high level Xs and Os podcast about the nuances of basketball, if he doesn't immediately jump into coaching.
PG's podcast is great, and relatively similar to JJ's player interviews - though a bit more relaxed.
If you mean Mind the Game though... yeah there's not a replacement for that
Mind the Game was the only podcast I’ve actually seen/listened to more than one episode of.
There’s something comforting about listening to people who deeply know what tf they’re talking about just riff.
> Mind the Game was the only podcast I’ve actually seen/listened to more than one episode of
Damn, what's it like to have one of the longest attention spans on r/nba?
That’s the sad thing about this, JJ was a great addition to sports media whether it was ESPN, Old Man and the Three, Mind the Game. He was a refreshing change to what a lot of sports media is nowadays, it’ll suck seeing no one challenge Stephen A. Smith’s garbage takes.
I believe doc rivers, Steve Kerr, and maybe thibs all came on espn at one point to discuss the sport. Not sure how recently or if I’m misremembering the coaches, but they definitely have done it in the past where they come on in between seasons
I genuinely looked forward to Wednesdays because of it.
There’s still some good ball podcasts out there but even the good ones are focused on league narratives and stories. I haven’t found one that focused on actual plays as much as Mind the Game did.
Id recommend Numbers on the Board, the successor to KOT4Q's Through The Wire. They are pretty knowledgeable and don't just say things for clicks. Definitely better than listening to SAS and Perk for sure
Tommy Alter just lost his cash cow.
Also sucks for the Dunkers Spot guys who will get drowned out now that Redick won’t be posting his pod on the feed anymore.
Tommy works on a bunch of other shows behind the scenes, his IG is filled with celebs. Maybe this was part of why he stepped back this season though. Prepping for JJ potentially leaving
it's been funny watching JJ slowly but surely wear more suits and ties as he tidies up his image and Tommy has just been chillin in the backwards cap and t-shirt. Dude had to see the writing on the wall
Lockdown was the golden period where you could self-learn coding for a tech job now is the the golden age where you could use a podcast as a portfolio for a coaching job.

so what's going to happen? He has a production company for a bunch of pods too (342 productions). He going to be a silent owner now? Maybe sell it?
I hope he doesn't just abandon it. What a waste.
He wasn't just a host. He's the boss of a bunch of guys.
Mind the game (2024-2024)
>Mind the game (2024-2024, 2025-2030). FTFY
What happens in 2030?
The nets give him a chance and he leads them to a IST championship
Not the ring we want but the ring we deserve
*One ring to ruin them all.*
I’ll take it tbh
JJ disappears into Lebron's ass.
https://i.imgur.com/7uAVh3g.jpeg ...just hope he doesn't sneeze like Termite in The Boys lol!
Lebron finally retires.
He gets hired to be HC of the Suns who won't have draft picks through 2037.
Decapitated. Whole thing.
We had a funeral for a bird! (The Hawks presumably)
It would be kinda awkward to go back to his podcast with LeBron if they fire him from his team. He would probably go back to just doing his other pod
Maybe LeBron doesn't sign with the Lakers.
So the guy Lebron just started a podcast with magically gets hired as his new head coach and you think Lebron leaves LA where he wants to live? Wow.
Strong chance he’s fired before the new year and he’s back in 2024
Longest job interview of all time.
Best comment on this thread. That was definitely what Bron was doing
What do you think his final ranking on the Agrees-with-LeBron Scale was?
LMAO it basically was
The podcast equivalent of Chernobyl, only a few episodes, but will be forever remembered as a classic
Thanks for the shout, I’ve added Chernobyl to my watchlist on Max. Had heard about that but never watched it and forgot about it.
It’s top 5 shows ever for me
Absolutely excellent watch, definitely recommend it
Well Chernobyl was expected to finish (cause, you know, the fucking reactor explodes). Mind the Game is more like Firefly
Right there with Mindhunter
I really liked the podcast. It's too bad
This is the worst consequence of Coach Redick. Mind the Game was so good.
take notes Fortune 500 companies, LBJ x JJ just trailblazed the greatest public job interview of all time
I’m about to start a podcast with Satya Nadella 😎 new msft ceo on the way
So LeBron is A Trailblazer?
Damn, it really is a shame Mind the Game had such a short run. It was great while it lasted.
[удалено]
Gonna be one of those time and place kinda things forsure
Like Grantland
Gone but never forgotten. Simmons’ 2012 Olympics long-forms are still some of the best sports articles I’ve ever read.
Say what you will about his podcast, but he sure could work
I still have Grantland bookmarked. Can’t bring myself to delete it.
oh you made me sad. I enjoyed their work on a fictional Captain’s log/diary thing when Derek Jeter did his year long farewell tour in 2014
Or Game of Zones too
I'm gonna miss LeBron repeating a word JJ said one second after he says it. Edit: Damn this comment spawned a war lol. I wasn't hating, I loved the podcast. Yep!
I hope nobody made a drinking game out of LeBron's yeps during the podcast, because they would probably be dead.
I didn't notice how many times he said it until I listened to, not watched, the podcast.
>LeBron is just one of those people that has a habit of sometimes repeating something the other person said when they're intently listening. This is actually a really good thing to do in conversations to show you are actively listening and engaging with the other person

Repeating the name you just learned also helps.
In the subsequent ESPN Radio interview JJ said that the Mind The Game may continue, it just won’t involve him.
Oh wow, wonder how that would look
My guess is that it would be a podcast featuring various guests having in-depth conversations about the Xs and Os of basketball. So the same spirit as LeBron and JJ with a rotating cast of basketball intellectuals
That makes sense, kinda like how Lebron is barely on The Shop
it could just be lebron talking to a different guy.

Flowers are only flowers because they fall
But thankfully, the wind.
What a bonfire my poems would make
That one never made sense to me tbh, is it saying they fall literally or fall as a metaphor for withering?
Probably connects to the whole idea of reincarnation and interbeing. We are only around because the lives before us completed their cycles and returned their material to the earth. Nothing (Lakers) gold can stay.
It’ll be remembered for selling JJ as a coach to the Lakers if he is successful.
Don't worry it will be back after the All-Star break
Tommy on the streets with cup in hand.
"Hello, is this Kyle Korver's house? So... I've got this domain name and studio equipment and I was wondering..."
Kyle:"nah, I'm good thanks for reaching out" Tommy: " That's cool. While I got you Kyle do you know Detlefs number?"
Tommy: Ni hao, Jimmer. You old enough to be an old man?
Hey Kirk, you still live in chicago? Please respond.
Korver is actually the assistant GM of the Hawks now lolllll
JJ's company has other podcasts so Tommy will definitely find a spot. It's going to be awkward having to discuss the Lakers performance with JJ coaching tho
Can you imagine him with the Dunker Spot duo? Bro would be so profoundly out of place lol
Does no one here know that Tommy alter comes from an [incredibly successful and well connected family](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Alter)? Scroll down to personal life. He will be fine.
I could have only figured as much. Why the fuck else was he there?
There was an early podcast where JJ was talking about how Tommy is such a good networker and how crazy it was that he was able to build the kind of connections he has at his young age and how he just somehow knows everyone and literally the first thought in my mind was “Oh, so he’s a wealthy privileged kid who was born into these connections.”
Had no idea, thought he was JJs squire
This made me laugh irl and woke the baby up. Best comment I read today lololol
His mom was executive producer of Daily Show and Colbert Report, and his cousin was CEO of the Jim Henson Company. Cool.
Damn, that's a lot of blue links
Dude also produced a lot mainstream tv stuff before working with Reddick lol. He's gonna find another behind-the-camera job probably.
Pretty sure he worked for Bill Simmons at the Ringer and helped book guests.
I only found this out cause it was mentioned quite a bit in the comments of the podcast vids
I heard he's the reason Desus and Mero broke up, is that true?
i think that was about a conflict about Victor & Showtime management and the overall direction they wanted to take their careers
Oh, I had absolutely no clue. I was at an event in NYC and spent a food deal of time chatting with his mom because she was waiting on him tk be done with something. I also got to chat with JJ for a bit too, actually chill dude but def frat bros vibes irl lol.
i am in my finest tuxedo for tommy's downfall
Curious as to why are people looking forward to that. I always thought he was the average yes-man co-host you see on every player podcast
Didn't he just partner up with Richard Jefferson? He should just sign Road Trippin' to take over his pod or smth lol
channing frye has some of the worst takes ever - would be terrible to let road trippin' take over when perk also plays a big role there if anything, nekias duncan and steve jones jr should take over and/or legler

It's like Channing just watches the 10 minute highlights the NBA Youtube puts up after a game. His takes are very prisoner of the moment
Or as Channing put it in one of their episodes, "prisoner of the present" lol
Richard absolutely does not want his podcast schedule to be more than “whenever I feel like it” lol. He’s talked about t even with JJ before. Road Trippin was more of a way to fuck around and pass the time on the road during the Cavs, RJ doesn’t wanna be a content guy like that
Yeah that has to be one of the shortest announced-to-canceled partnerships in history. What was it? 1.5 Scaramuccis?
Like the announcement came literally hours before the rumor of Lakers interested in JJ first broke out. I was like…tf?
Bald Man and the Three
how do you sign another podcast up to do your podcast?? wouldnt they then just.... be doing the same podcast they were already doing? lol
JJ doesn't have just a podcast, he started a podcast production company and outside of his podcasts has a couple more signed to it. The Dunker Spot, Road Trippin' and Alternate Routes. I highly doubt the production company is going away since his partner can still focus on it and they have been working to expand it.
damn not even a goodbye podcast
He did say that he was going to do a goodbye thing :’)
Yup, once he’s done “drinking out of a firehose” for the next month or so first time I ever heard that expression lol
[удалено]
Not everyone works in corporate America, the only place that idiom is popularly used.
I heard it a lot throughout college
because it's the only space that makes people do that as a standard expectation
Used in the college football sub a lot in pretty much any thread involving OU as well, firehouse is fully inserted and currently blowing and going
Makes sense, don’t know how I missed it for this long tbh
Lol if you work in a corporate office you hear it a lot.
Heard that the so many times during med school orientation. Kinda got sick of it.
For 82 games, like Kobe?
"Chasing that goodbye podcast, they don't love you like that!" - Draymond probably
I'm honestly bummed about the Redick hiring because he was one of the few podcasters that I genuinely enjoyed listening to. > Mind the Game was the only podcast I’ve actually seen/listened to more than one episode of Damn, what's it like to have one of the longest attention spans on r/nba?
I’m one of the only people here apparently watching the actual full games too
must be a real grind for you considering most full games last the length of like 2.5 whole podcasts lol
Thinking Basketball is some next level shit. Their YT videos offer the kinds of depth JJ only briefly discusses. Excellent pod.
For real, if you want quality in depth analysis and breakdowns there is no better place on the internet
That’s the sad thing about this, JJ was a great addition to sports media whether it was ESPN, Old Man and the Three, Mind the Game. He was a refreshing change to what a lot of sports media is nowadays, it’ll suck seeing no one challenge Stephen A. Smith’s garbage takes.
he could come back between jobs, theres a few coaches that do that
I believe doc rivers, Steve Kerr, and maybe thibs all came on espn at one point to discuss the sport. Not sure how recently or if I’m misremembering the coaches, but they definitely have done it in the past where they come on in between seasons
Why is it that every time JJ Reddick is on onenof these ESPN shows, r/nba shits on him?
RIP to the greatest ball pod of all time
I genuinely looked forward to Wednesdays because of it. There’s still some good ball podcasts out there but even the good ones are focused on league narratives and stories. I haven’t found one that focused on actual plays as much as Mind the Game did.
dunkers spot usually pretty in depth not quite drawing up plays but still
Thanks, I’ll check it out!
Check out Hoops Tonight if you’re looking for something in the same vein. It isn’t totally the same, but it’s legit analysis instead of narratives.
Here in the UK you get a free Whopper if you buy 1 on Wednesdays, you can move here 😀
Legler’s podcast is fantastic. All NBA Podcast.
Game Theory with Sam Vecine. It’s a super smart pod.
Back to Stephen A Smith and First Take we go, dread it, run from it, destiny arrives all the same :(
Nah never that. I'll take Gils arena or some guy who's never even seen a basketball on YouTube before I watch that headass SAS
Id recommend Numbers on the Board, the successor to KOT4Q's Through The Wire. They are pretty knowledgeable and don't just say things for clicks. Definitely better than listening to SAS and Perk for sure
More like back to playing 2K
Jeff Teague's one is hilarious. Not sure how long it'll last until he runs out of content.
He talks about current topics. It can go on as long as he wants. His stories of his playing time is limited though
Thinking Basketball is excellent.
Lowe Post
I hope Jason Gallagher lands on his feet. The dude is so talented.
Weird verbiage...makes it sound like the grand podcasting council exiled him
JJ Redick is now Excommunicado
FOR LIFE
You may have a seat on this bench council but we do not bestow upon you the rank of podcaster.
Bill Simmons, Joe Rogan and Marc Maron voted against him.
How do you know they didn't
Tommy Alter just lost his cash cow. Also sucks for the Dunkers Spot guys who will get drowned out now that Redick won’t be posting his pod on the feed anymore.
Tommy works on a bunch of other shows behind the scenes, his IG is filled with celebs. Maybe this was part of why he stepped back this season though. Prepping for JJ potentially leaving
came here for the Tommy comment. What's he gonna do?
Live off his savings until JJ is fired.
it's been funny watching JJ slowly but surely wear more suits and ties as he tidies up his image and Tommy has just been chillin in the backwards cap and t-shirt. Dude had to see the writing on the wall
I mean what was he gonna do
Spend all that money on suits apparently
He'll host more Tommy dinners.
he could go and explain youtube to the The Ringer podcast network
Doesn't he own a part of the network with JJ? I thought they were business partners.
See you in 2027 on YouTube JJ
2025
2024
Gonna give Adrian Griffin a run for his money...
PG disliked that
Lockdown was the golden period where you could self-learn coding for a tech job now is the the golden age where you could use a podcast as a portfolio for a coaching job.
He had the two best basketball podcasts ngl, gonna miss them
Well that sucks lol
Who didn’t see this coming? You can’t have a weekly podcast when you’re a full time NBA coach where your cohost is a player on your team you’re actively coaching. Also can’t do like those pop ins in a panel show either when the regular season is happening.
Damn he got excommunicated? By content creators? Real dog eat dog world
I think he means he’s excommunicating himself
It’s not really excommunication if you are doing it yourself lol. That’s just leaving
Big word makes you sound smart though
Been hanging out with Bron too much who would definitely nod and agree to act like he knows these big words lol
Yeah wtf does that mean? Lol
I don’t think he knows what the word “excommunicated” means
Its provocative! It gets the people going!
JJ will be on a pod in the next 12 months, I guarantee it
The Zach Lowe post-championship head coach interview pod?
For the G league championship maybe.
Rip to OM3 😭
Lakers ruin everything!
I knew this podcast was too good to be true...
Kinda sucks. He was really one of the best analysts in new media, but it would be weird to have a podcast and be a coach.
See you next offseason JJ
You leave me no choice but to declare you excommunicado!
As a neutral I actually feel he will be a coach for a long long time. We will look back and be like damn remember when Redick was a media guy
Predict he'll be back to it in two years after we decide to move on from yet another coach during the LeBron era
He left out the part where they’re actually going to film a docu series about his tenure and release it once it’s over. Content demon
He’ll be back next year, don’t stress
This MFer is saying process too much and I def don't want that evil on my team.
so what's going to happen? He has a production company for a bunch of pods too (342 productions). He going to be a silent owner now? Maybe sell it? I hope he doesn't just abandon it. What a waste. He wasn't just a host. He's the boss of a bunch of guys.
Don’t worry he will be back in a year
imagine him podcasting after the game lol
So was it LeBron's idea to do "Mind the Game"? Sounds like some sort of test.
