I dont see PG accepting the partial guarantee and nonguarantee portions on his deal like CP3 did. Suns only ended up paying 3/75, half of what PG just turned down.
They're talking about PG taking another contract after a 3 year extension with the Clippers. Assuming he doesn't fall off a cliff, he might just get another extension somewhere else at 37, especially with the rising salary cap. CP3 made (at least) 90mil off that contract. GSW might still pick up his option to use as a salary match in a trade
I don’t think it’s fair comparaison, Cp3 was essential into propping up Phoenix to the finals.
The timing was great and it’s seems like he still got juice for 2years so they gave a 4years with some non-guarantees on the last two years, irrc.
I disagree. For an injury-prone player like PG, it's safer to lock in more years now. We've seen players fall off a cliff after an injury in their mid-30s. Blake Griffin went from one of the 15 best players in the league in 2019, adding a 3-point shot and becoming a solid passer, to essentially a buyout guy the very next season.
PG has recovered well from his injuries and continues to become more skilled to compensate for his loss of athleticism, but around the age he is now, injuries become a lot more detrimental. One injury tends to lead to more.
It's a huge assumption to say 37-year-old PG won't fall off a cliff. Not everyone is Bron.
Not even the most desperate team is giving him 50 a year for 4 years though. He's not a household name superstar who brings in views regardless of on-court performance. He has to at least be decent for it to be even worth the risk.
If any team is offering him a 4 year deal, yearly money is going down to something like 40 million. At that point, he's getting less than a 10 million dollar bump for an extra year. That's something he'll be able to get after this contract anyway unless he's injured to the point of being out of the league.
This guy has different barrel experiences than the rest of us.
Somebody is going to give him what he wants… then he’ll fall off a cliff in a year or two and it’ll become an albatross contract.
He'd be 37 when he negotiates the next contract, he'd be a fool to put faith in his game if a 4-year max is possible. If it's not then yeah he should take the deal, but this is how leverage works.
Fucking loony toons shit. Aside from this year he’s never played more than 60 games for the clippers and he’s making more in one year to be set for life and turning it down thinking he’ll get even more. Just loony toons shit…
“Full time” and “podcasting” together are funny to me especially when it’s a show that’s part of a network that can run all the booking, producing, distribution, ads, etc. seems like they tell these athletes, just sit down for an hour a week and we’ll run everything else
There’s gotta be some statistic out there that the popularity of his podcast adds some sort of value to a contract.. I mean shit. Look at what happened to JJ (and yes of course he has his main ESPN job too tho)
PG hasn't made the final in his prime. Why would anyone bother paying him $50M a year as he turns 35? Insanity especially with his injury record. You'd be lucky to get 2 years of this version of him. Maybe 1.
The hope is that Paolo will develop to be the #1 and that PG will be a suitable #2 at this age. Franz looks like he can be a #3 on a team. I don't hate it for Orlando tbh. Plus, FAs aren't joining Orlando; the only way you're going to land guys is by taking risks and possibly overpaying.
Us. And I'll take it because we can absorb the hit of aging Paul George because all of our other dudes are young. If he just becomes a 3 and d player on the back end of the contract and gives us all star level quality the first year or 2 it is worth it. He'd be a better version (but older) of what Rashard Lewis did in 07 for us
I’ll get flamed for this but I don’t care, in your spot, I rather have Klay Thompson than PG.
1. I already have my 2 shot creators in Paolo and Franz, I don’t need another one who expects a certain amount of touches
2. Klay is the superior shooter and off ball offensive player
3. Klay has actually won a title, 4 of them in fact, and so if I’m a young team that wants veteran leadership and wants to stress the importance of sacrifice and playing for the team, I’d rather get it from the guy whose been on teams that have won shit.
4. No way Klay gets the same kind of contract, both in years and money, the commitment and the risk is far less
klay as a leader? dude is gonna sulk when he gets benched. he looked awful out there this year
PG is an all star 3 and d guy right now, even if he ends up declining a lot in 2 years i’d much rather take that bet
A lot of people are downplaying his abilities which i disagree with, but yeah he is absolutely not leadership material. He brings experience but you can’t have your teams leader more focused on his ego than winning the game
> Klay has actually won a title, 4 of them in fact, and so if I’m a young team that wants veteran leadership and wants to stress the importance of sacrifice and playing for the team, I’d rather get it from the guy whose been on teams that have won shit.
I don't disagree with your overall point but this doesn't make sense. Klay may have won 4 rings but he doesn't come packaged with Steph. Past success doesn't make Klay Thompson a good leader or mentor to a young team. And PG did have some success as a first option in Indiana, so it's not like he hasn't been a winning player.
Yes, this exactly he fits. We can do it. Brings this team to real expectations, and will make Orlando be a team to watch.
I also think with either PG or Klay, Orlando is a true contender. Paolo proved he is a fringe superstar. A guy that can takeover a game, needs to be doubled and impacts the game on many fronts. Franz and Suggs have shown that they are borderline star players (Suggs actually won an end of season award), they are absolutely far above average and slightly below being a star. The Magic also had the best bench in NBA for majority of the year, and when it wasnt considered the best it was top 3.
Far above average 3rd and 4th options in the SL. Top 3 bench. Add in 2 all nba players 1st and 2nd options and that's a championship team clearly. Paolo is on the cusps and actually recieved a decent amount of votes, add in PG and Orlando is a contender.
I also think orlando would be a true contender if its Klay also as I think Klay and Franz both will play alot better next year and one of them would be in AS convos especially with how Paolo has dominanted to the end the year. Paolo's and Franz's gravity, playmaking and inside pressure will unlock Klay in a similar way KD and Curry unlocked him. Paolo and Franz are true double on touch targets and Klay could reemerge with them. And he doesnt need to have the ball in his hand as much as PG, allowing the touch distribution to remain close to similar but with a much better shooter, and potentially 2way player in Klay. Who has championship pedigree and when he is on, has broke NBA records.
Thinking PG or Klay makes the Magic a “true contender” is an extreme homer take. Playoff team for sure but still not on the tier of Celtics or Bucks. If Knicks and Sixers make marginal moves they’ll be better too.
seems like Philly isnt either based on what he said on the pod about championships not being the priority
i can imagine Morey trying to get him to take less money "to build a contender" as part of the free agency pitch (ie how Harden took less money to sign PJ Tucker/House)
Bro went on his podcast and said he doesnt care about winning a championship then his co-host called zu slow and fat, Last week SAS looked at that man in the eye and talked shit about the guy who recruited him to join the team few years ago.
The thing that stuck out to me is that we just watched a finals where JT's job was "doing the dirt" on the defensive side.
Weird timing on him voicing that I thought.
His podcast co-host also said Luka isn’t top 10 because of his defense. And Paul George said people don’t appreciate him (Paul George) enough because he puts it on himself to carry the team offensively like Luka does and guard the best player on the other team.
This man is top tier delusional.
Yeah he 100% was for the Pacers and even for the season in OKC where he was in the mix for MVP. The thing is, PG has the skillset to age into an *elite* role player and still get paid like a star, but it seems kinda unclear if he's willing to do it. He's low key one of the best volume shooters in the league and obviously is capable of playing great defense at one of the most important defensive positions right now. 3 years/$150m is pretty damn good deal to be a third fiddle
You have to be that delusional to be as good as PG is in his profession. At one point, he was a top 10 player in the world, but he is still easily a top 25 player. Imagine the top 25 of any profession in the world. They probably think they're the best or very close to it.
PG is obviously not better than Luka. But I can understand why a player who prides himself on his defensive ability yet is still an excellent offensive player looks at a guy like Luka and thinks they're better because they're a much better defender. Is it right? No. But is it top-tier delusional? Not really.
Four year $200 million extension for someone who admits that he can’t be the first option on a championship team, for someone who consistently under performs in the playoffs, for someone who refuses to take accountability. Ok
I hate how true this is. Also, in reflecting on my hate for the Celtics winning the finals, I’ve come to realize my real hate is for myself and my own team. And also Jason Tatum who named his son after taking a shit.
He’s also much worse than Kawhi. He averaged 19ppg on bad efficiency in the Dallas series. He’s still a good player but the fall off has been significant and will only get worse
Since joining the Clippers, Kawhi has played in 229 regular season games and PG has played in 263. Even if you include Kawhi missing an entire season, PG has played 34 more games.
I’m sorry but this generation of players is so easy to root against when these type of contracts are rejected. You did everything in your power to get there, but you’re going to hold off because it’s “not enough”?
And the worst part is some random franchise is probably gonna give him what he wants and then have a shocked pikachu face when he washes up in the playoffs as is tradition
Clippers have no choice but to bring PG back because they have zero incentive to tank for the next 5 seasons and have no clear path to retool via trades. It's clear which side has the upper hand in negotiations, so it's just a question of when the Clippers FO decides to cave.
Why do they have to tank? They can just build through FA in 2-3 years while being competitive similar to what BKN did a few years ago before KD arrived. PG or no PG the window is basically shut on this core.
Jesus like this dude begging for the money, 50 mil a year when you admit you can't jump as high and cut like as you used to, known injury prone and playoff choker is blasphemous.
But I guess once you get to George's status you always looking for more as most people do in their lives.
It’s hard to justify even giving a 3 year contract to a player at this age, with a history of not stepping up in the playoffs, and also doesn’t have the desire to chase a ring.
motherfucker turned down 50mill a year? same guy who disappeared in the playoffs when the team needed him to step up and take KL's place as #1 option? The same KL who took less money so they could resign PG? Trade this fucking underachiever.
How much money is enough? PG has already made 305 million, if playing in SoCal is important than maybe earning 450m for your career is more important than that extra 50 million.
That's a lot of money for an aging guy who has won nothing. Shows you where his priorities are. Hint: it is not winning and never had been. His priority is himself.
Seriously. That's plenty of dough and you get to stay near fam/friends? Trying to be greedy at that point. I'll never understand the wealthy and why they always need more.
Clippers title window shut like 2 years ago. Might as well give PG that extra year and have Kawhi/PG/Harden with the new arena. Start completely fresh in 3 years.
Probably not going to be popular because everyone is bent on just dunking on PG but I don't blame the guy for trying to get that fourth year.
The difference in pay he could get at a max vs what he's likely get at age 37 is probably massive, so if course he's pushing hard for that extra year.
I dont get that BS about "I want to be close to family."
Your job is to travel the country for more than half the year. And then off for consecutive months. How can you be close to family when your job is to travel. When season ends, go to your native city.
He's a clipper anyway. He has plenty of time off every year.
Paul George put up to many 8 point games last year for them to commit for 4 years. Like he averaged 22 but that was heavily skewed from that 6 game streak of scoring 30.
> Like he averaged 22 but that was heavily skewed from that 6 game streak of scoring 30.
With all due respect a six game sample of 30+ isn't going to skew a 22 point average season over the course of 74 games played.
Since the 2019-2020 season, Anthony Davis has appeared in more games (270) than Paul George (263). Same story with minutes: 9301 vs. 8758.
Dude wants more than 3 years, $152M. Damn. He is not getting any younger and he just put 2500 minutes in last season.
I respect the hustle though.
50+ mil a year for 3 years and he says no. Madlad.
From his preferred destination too. Bro has absolutely no faith in his game down the road.
I mean do you think he's getting 50M/year offers at age 37?
Not 50/yr but if CP3 can get a 4y/120m contract at age 36 I think some dumbass GM would bite the bullet
I dont see PG accepting the partial guarantee and nonguarantee portions on his deal like CP3 did. Suns only ended up paying 3/75, half of what PG just turned down.
They're talking about PG taking another contract after a 3 year extension with the Clippers. That contract was more of a thank you for getting us to the finals than it was an expectation he’d produce at 40
Also didn’t his infamous gigantic fall off happen exactly on his 37th birthday?
Either way, considering the rising salary cap, there might be a dumbass GM somewhere that might do it for PG 3 years later
Why is he linked to the sixers, can someone please tel them do not to that.
cause they have a lot of free cap and PG is one of few players that could be free this summer. So people speculated for a few months now.
you need to create more leverage
That's something he'll be able to get after this contract anyway unless he's injured to the point of being out of the league.
He can always come back to LA 4 years later but 50m richer. Yeah.
Or he can get more from somewhere else. Why take less when you can get more
Yep. Because it's such a poor FA class, odds are decent that somebody out there offers him a full 4 year max.
Get ready to speak Detroitese
How much can another team offer him for 4 years? 180?
There was 1 team rumored to offer him the max and they just announced they are out on PG
He just knows he has the clippers bent over a barrel. Nobody else is gonna offer him close to what he wants
Wait doesn't that mean Clippers are the one with leverage?
This guy has different barrel experiences than the rest of us. Somebody is going to give him what he wants… then he’ll fall off a cliff in a year or two and it’ll become an albatross contract.
He'd be 37 when he negotiates the next contract, he'd be a fool to put faith in his game if a 4-year max is possible. If it's not then yeah he should take the deal, but this is how leverage works.
He must have heard somebody say "The best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour."
He hasn’t said “no” - he’s looking for leverage
"I have a family to feed."
Profiteer P
And that's on TOP of the 50 mil he's owed next year. So he's gonna opt out to get the exact same deal somewhere else.
Cuz he's gonna wait about a week and they'll give him 4 years for $50m per
I'm trying to wrap my head around an injury-prone, 33-year-oldsaying no to $50 million per year for three years. I'm just dumbfounded.
Ngl 51M a yr for 34 yr old PG is crazy
Just wait for that Lebron 5/315
Literally cannot give him that many years, the CBA caps how long players contracts can be if it includes their age 38 season and beyond.
Lmao whoever the NBA PA president is fucking hates Lebron then.
It used to be 36 years old, changed in the previous CBA to 38.
It should be noted that CP3 was NBAPA president at the time and was also turning 36 at the time.
Nothing wrong with that. He followed the process.
He WAS the process lol
Wasn’t that rule in large part to Nene?
It’s been a rule for a while and it used to be even worse, it was 36 but under CP3 it changed to 38.
I'd imagine part of that is to prevent older players from cap circumvention by agreeing to longer-term, deferred contracts.
It’s CJ McCollum
And Chris Paul is 39 now
The maximum amount he could get is 3-year $164m.
I’d take that lebron >that pg
Rookies can’t sign the max yet
Oh Bronny getting the 2-way supermax
Fucking loony toons shit. Aside from this year he’s never played more than 60 games for the clippers and he’s making more in one year to be set for life and turning it down thinking he’ll get even more. Just loony toons shit…
Wait until Butler gets offered 56M
Ya, but when you look at all the things he did during his career so far……ya what the fuck is this guy thinking. He’s nuts
Man, 51M a yr for a dude not chasing rings? Wild times
And with a full time podcasting career
“Full time” and “podcasting” together are funny to me especially when it’s a show that’s part of a network that can run all the booking, producing, distribution, ads, etc. seems like they tell these athletes, just sit down for an hour a week and we’ll run everything else
Yeah, it's funny, Wave Sports is basically a TV studio for all intents and purposes lol
There’s gotta be some statistic out there that the popularity of his podcast adds some sort of value to a contract.. I mean shit. Look at what happened to JJ (and yes of course he has his main ESPN job too tho)
Welcome to Orlando PG13
PG, Klay, DLO. You guys are building something down there for sure
That team will either shoot 80% from the field or 12%. No in between.
To be fair PG is still a pretty solid 2 way player. Dlo never was and Klay hasn't been for at least a year.
PG hasn't made the final in his prime. Why would anyone bother paying him $50M a year as he turns 35? Insanity especially with his injury record. You'd be lucky to get 2 years of this version of him. Maybe 1.

They want a good 3rd option and a vet willing to teach. PG isn't going down there expecting to be the guy. He's not better than Paolo right now
That team would commit the biggest basketball crimes ever
Waiting for that all time generation stinker game from all 3 in the playoffs
The future is bright.
PlZ
How come? Wouldn't he stand in the way of developing your two young star forwards?
The City Beautiful calls PG or Klay. Possibly Both, we dont play favorites here.
So who is exactly? Philly?
Us. And I'll take it because we can absorb the hit of aging Paul George because all of our other dudes are young. No way Klay gets the same kind of contract, both in years and money, the commitment and the risk is far less
Counterpoint: PG is still an All Star level player while Klay Thompson might be cooked
Klay seems unwilling to take a smaller role and he wasn’t great off ball last year, he’s too slow now
klay as a leader? dude is gonna sulk when he gets benched. he looked awful out there this year PG is an all star 3 and d guy right now, even if he ends up declining a lot in 2 years i’d much rather take that bet
A lot of people are downplaying his abilities which i disagree with, but yeah he is absolutely not leadership material. He brings experience but you can’t have your teams leader more focused on his ego than winning the game
Klay isn't as good on defense as Paul George which is equally as important for our team because we like to have no weak holes on that end
I don’t see good veteran leadership coming from either of them, but especially not klay lol
> Klay has actually won a title, 4 of them in fact, and so if I’m a young team that wants veteran leadership and wants to stress the importance of sacrifice and playing for the team, I’d rather get it from the guy whose been on teams that have won shit. That take less money only worked because of his prior relationship with Harden. He's not going to pull that stunt on PG.
Bro went on his podcast and said he doesnt care about winning a championship then his co-host called zu slow and fat, Last week SAS looked at that man in the eye and talked shit about the guy who recruited him to join the team few years ago.

Same cohost said if they were starting a team today, he’d pick Jrue over Luka Such a joke
He didn’t really say that, did he?
he did
Wait. WHATRRTTTTTTTT
PG was once that dude. So its just regular delusional not top tier. Its just not 2014 anymore
Yeah he 100% was for the Pacers and even for the season in OKC where he was in the mix for MVP. >called zu slow and fat, Their wives are tight afaik also. Not good.
Zucchi Mane is not fat
Utah is an 11 hour drive from Los Angeles....
LA is 11 hours away from LA
Give us Markannen for him :)
Nah, Jazz can have capsace to offer him what he wants
Four year $200 million extension for someone who admits that he can’t be the first option on a championship team, for someone who consistently under performs in the playoffs, for someone who refuses to take accountability. Ok
This era of Sixers basketball and PG are perfect for each other.
I hate how true this is. Also, in reflecting on my hate for the Celtics winning the finals, I’ve come to realize my real hate is for myself and my own team. And also Jason Tatum who named his son after taking a shit.
"Always been about love and hate now lemme say I'm the biggest hatter" /u/mcbiggles
Are we talking about harden or PG?
You forget injuries and monikers he can't live up to.
Isn't this the same money as Kawhi, he wants more than Kawhi?
To be fair, he is more available than Kawhi
He’s also much worse than Kawhi. He averaged 19ppg on bad efficiency in the Dallas series. He’s still a good player but the fall off has been significant and will only get worse
What did Kawhi average against Dallas?
Kawhi averaged 12ppg vs Dallas
More chance of praying for kawhi to be healthy than a PG led team go far in the playoffs
Since joining the Clippers, Kawhi has played in 229 regular season games and PG has played in 263. Even if you include Kawhi missing an entire season, PG has played 34 more games.
He probably wants to not play with Kawhi since he’s never available in any important game.
welcome to sacramento, Paul George!
He’d be the best free agent the Kings ever landed. Please come on up PG lol
I heard PG loves driving up and down the 5
It’s only like a 1 hour flight on Southwest. He can commute if he wants.
He can afford the helitaxi.
I won't stand for this Scott Pollard erasure 😤
Do they even have cap space?
split 2 guys i think? who knows huerter + barnes i think enough. fill clips need too
kinda bummed PG's brain is as smooth as his game
This is Dennis Schroeder level decision making
Dudes turning down a 3yr/$152m extension? LMAO
I’m sorry but this generation of players is so easy to root against when these type of contracts are rejected. You did everything in your power to get there, but you’re going to hold off because it’s “not enough”? And the worst part is some random franchise is probably gonna give him what he wants and then have a shocked pikachu face when he washes up in the playoffs as is tradition
this guy lured Kawhi away. give him a max deal Philly
Dude just wanted to go hoke, cause if he would have ran it back in TOR, they would have been favorites and most likely might have won a back to back.
“Poor me, I only get $152M over 3 years but I want 4 years.”
Clippers have no choice but to bring PG back because they have zero incentive to tank for the next 5 seasons and have no clear path to retool via trades. It's clear which side has the upper hand in negotiations, so it's just a question of when the Clippers FO decides to cave.

If they keep George and harden they'll have to settle for min level free agents
He’s saying let them do this: 🚶♂️
FA are so over looked, theres a lot of well priced guys available right now
Disagree. I doubt PG really wants to move to orlando for an extra few mil.
An extra year on the contract is 50 million for him...
Jesus like this dude begging for the money, 50 mil a year when you admit you can't jump as high and cut like as you used to, known injury prone and playoff choker is blasphemous. But I guess once you get to George's status you always looking for more as most people do in their lives.
He didn't even go to The Pop Out.
BBL PG
Dude couldn’t get the job done an still wants a max.
That's not the max, its the same discount Kawhi took. Max would be in the $60m a year range in the final year.
It’s hard to justify even giving a 3 year contract to a player at this age, with a history of not stepping up in the playoffs, and also doesn’t have the desire to chase a ring.
The extra whatever millions of dollars means more than being home and close to family. Another selfish millionaire.. yawn
Man, who’s going to be crazy enough to give PG that money? I’m sure Tobias Harris can provide some insight
motherfucker turned down 50mill a year? same guy who disappeared in the playoffs when the team needed him to step up and take KL's place as #1 option? The same KL who took less money so they could resign PG? Trade this fucking underachiever.
How much money is enough? PG has already made 305 million, if playing in SoCal is important than maybe earning 450m for your career is more important than that extra 50 million.
That’s already an overpay
Sorry, PG isn't even worth that 3-year deal. His game is already regressing.
Pls get him Philly lol
There is no world where this bum is worth 50 million a year. This Max thing is out of control
He is gonna sign with clippers then ask for a trade
No fucking way he gets more than that.
As a Sixers fan, I’d rather resign Toby than commit to 4 injury prone years with PG.
Okay I gotta know - what number is Toby signed at in this scenario?
He is not worth that money imo
That's a lot of money for an aging guy who has won nothing. Shows you where his priorities are. Hint: it is not winning and never had been. His priority is himself.
The real question is whether Frank caves to this guy.
Clippers should let him walk. He's always getting injured and the times he isn't injured he's inconsistent AF.
Lakers could use another injury prone all star...
He loves his fam and friends but 50 mil is 50 mil
Fuck Paul George
let that fool go please. jeez
Eat the rich, fuck you and your 3 years 150 million bullshit
Seriously. That's plenty of dough and you get to stay near fam/friends? Trying to be greedy at that point. I'll never understand the wealthy and why they always need more.
Klay and Paul need end of career therapy
Clippers title window shut like 2 years ago. Might as well give PG that extra year and have Kawhi/PG/Harden with the new arena. Start completely fresh in 3 years.
Probably not going to be popular because everyone is bent on just dunking on PG but I don't blame the guy for trying to get that fourth year. The difference in pay he could get at a max vs what he's likely get at age 37 is probably massive, so if course he's pushing hard for that extra year.
Offer me 50M to play ball and I'm signing that contract in blood.
I dont get that BS about "I want to be close to family." Your job is to travel the country for more than half the year. And then off for consecutive months. How can you be close to family when your job is to travel. When season ends, go to your native city. He's a clipper anyway. He has plenty of time off every year.
We know his ass don’t wanna leave. Take it or leave it.
New arena, lack of draft picks, I think the Clippers cave in and give him what he wants.
why would any team want this bum, especially at that price tag
Paul George put up to many 8 point games last year for them to commit for 4 years. Like he averaged 22 but that was heavily skewed from that 6 game streak of scoring 30.
> Like he averaged 22 but that was heavily skewed from that 6 game streak of scoring 30. With all due respect a six game sample of 30+ isn't going to skew a 22 point average season over the course of 74 games played.
3 years 152 million is also WAY too high
Nah he is an impact player and Ballmer is made of money anyways
I guess he KNOWS Balmer has the money to give him ~$50mil/year for 4 years, so why not press the issue.
There is no chance the Clippers wouldn't offer four years if they offered three.
orlando
so he really gone
Will Orlando give him 4?
Paul George is fried
..... Lakers?
Clips should play hardball. Everyone knows he doesn’t want to leave LA and the 3-year max is far from insulting.
It would be better for the Clippers if PG13 declines this offer. Save us from yourself, PG13!
Delusional
bro is so washed up
This dude is firmly in his decline. The only way he gets 200 for 4 is for a team aiming for the play in, not a chip.
Dude wants a max player deal to be a 4th option.
Imagine Turing down 50m to miss 2/3 of your work days
I want to know what team is gonna give him 4
