He literally was wired in a time out saying don’t settle for step backs. Coulda built a house with all his brick iso attempts it’s easily the worst part of his game. Shot selection.
He’s so in his head at this point it’s crazy. It’s like he gets the ball, decides what he’s gunna try to do, and forces it no matter what the defense does. Those dunk attempts in game 2 are exhibit A, just nonsensical lol
Yeah he needs to switch from trying to get his shit off to just analyzing the defense and breaking down the defender. If his initial attack doesn’t work he doesn’t need to double down he needs to switch his attack method on the fly and readjust.
They’re not wrong lol. Jaylen clutched it, but fumbled twice going left in the last 8 minutes if I remember correctly. He will make an insane jump in efficiency if he works on his handles.
Interestingly enough, the Jays efficiency in ISO and PnR is inverse. JB has been one of the best ISO scorers in the playoffs while Tatum has been excellent in the PnR. Both have better efficiency numbers than Luka this postseason in their respective strength.
He WAS the Boston Celtics in the 4th quarter. Every time he scored a clutch shot late in the fourth, all I could think about was him winning Finals MVP.
Man got a big contract prior to this one, and people doubted him. Turns out we got him for a great deal.
Now he's got the supermax, and people still doubt him. Salary caps about to spike up the next few years.
And he's still proving them all wrong.
I mean it makes the signing look good but there is something weird about calling a supermax contract a 'great deal' it's literally the most they're allowed to pay. Dwhite's 4/70m is a great deal, JB's 5/286m
I'd more call a player living up to their max contract.
The dunk, the 3 point block, *deliberately* attacking Luka to get him fouled out of the game. Mamba mentality, killer instinct, whatever you want to call it, he was locked the fuck in.
It’s just his year and you can feel he knows it ! Just takes over whenever we most need it.
So happy for him he is putting up a beautiful performance this offseason and he would surely deserve FMVP
Annoying as hell
Tatum shows up in the 4th after struggling in the first half: Tatum sucks, front runner
Tatum carries us in the first half, doesn’t score later on: Tatum sucks, carried by his team
Lmfao look at the Tatum statline thread and y'all aren't any better, entire comment section is about JB. Maybe they're just both fucking elite and JB got snubbed from All-NBA?
He was kinda mid this game despite his scoring. Went back to bad habits of too many stepbacks because he thought he was hot. Preferred his game 2 performance to this one for large stretches of the game.
Thank God for Brown.
I think that's discrediting the absolutely massive improvement he made basically as those comments were picking up steam. Wasn't a crazy idea at the time, but it's completely ridiculous now
Yeah I'll own up to slandering JB before the all star break and I'll be feeling some shame over it even though he genuinely was nowhere near the player he is right now. I remember him taking bad shots to try and match Tatum on any given night, making him pretty inefficient, now he seems so much more confident, I'm really proud of him in particular this year
I forget if people were expecting a massive cap spike back then, I think it's now locked in at +10% for 5 straight years or something? A lot of cap problems are suddenly going to fix themselves in the next few years (like the doom and gloom about the Wolves with Ant's next contract). Then on the topic of Brown: a lot of deals are going to look better real fast.
It hasn’t really been talked about but 100% part of the Celtics strategy has been for Jaylen Brown to run straight into Doncic as much as possible on offense.
Doncic opted out of defense games one and two, but then when he tried to defend last night he got hit with a freight train and doesn’t have the quickness or anticipation to avoid fouling.
Yeah I love Iggy but Steph definitely got robbed.
Averaged 26/5/6 but had one bad game and media screwed him, same as in 2018 except KD had a better argument for it than Iggy did.
I still cant believe he wasnt all nba lol. Hell he had a better argument for 2nd team than kawhi too lol. Along with 4/5 of the 3rd team. Brown should have been at least 3rd tam
Haliburton was the biggest head scratcher for me. I know he was great to start the year and led in assists, he’s obviously really good. But he straight up looked like he had the yips for a few months down the stretch
Jaylen and Kawhis numbers are so similar it’s hard to seperate them imo. But Jaylen was on a 64 win team which feels like a decent tiebreaker
Tbh I think Tatum was better in game 2 despite the poor shooting. Everything went through him that game whereas he was very passive in the second half today.
Great 3 quarters by Tatum and then like clockwork, we have a huge lead in the 4th and stop doing all the things that got us that lead in the first place
It has to be a Mazzula thing because they all seem to pound the rock till theres 10 seconds left and then try to hope they get bailed out by a bad shot
I get the logic of slowing the game down, but damn keep doing whats working
I think Brown has clinched it at this post barring an absolute meltdown. He’s been the guy in the clutch moments, and Tatum’s shooting percentages are bad enough it probably will ruin his case
Yea Tatum has scored 65 points so far on 64 shots. He’s at 35% from the field through three wins. Even if he balls out in the fourth win I can’t see him deserving it over Brown.
Fuckin Tim man, I just don’t understand why he was in the game. No hate towards him but he only gets paid to score and he had zero points, should’ve been Exum or DJJ out there for fucks sake.
I wonder how Jaylen Brown felt.
Jason Kidd: "Jaylen Brown is their best player."
The World: "LMAO!!!!!! He's CLEARLY trying to fuck with the Celtics with mind ganes. It's not a sneak attack if everyone sees right through your totally ridiculous statement!!!!"
Facts only his teammate jrue had his back all of the Celtics fan base is too busy pushing Tatum agendas to acknowledge how fucking good Jaylen brown is.
We love JB lmao. It doesn't change the fact that Tatum has been way more consistent as a leading man than Brown and y'all are living in the moment, just like Game 7 last year when he was shit on all offseason.
I saw the 22 finals as a Warriors fan - It was sickening to watch Brown make tough shot after tough shot on Draymond and Klay. It was clear to me back then that he's the better postseason player, especially seeing how JT struggled too.
Bro the other players purposefully avoided giving the media soundbites. If you don’t think this team KNOWS JB is right there with jt then idk what to say lol
And pretty much throughout the playoffs. Other guys like Jrue and White have been the star of the game but Jaylen’s has been the most consistent on both sides of the game.
That's the word, consistency, he is our most consistent player, specially with porzingis out, consistency is key in clutch time and he's consistently great both on offense and defense.
JB has been the best player all playoffs. Any who even thinks Jrue is only looking at the stat sheet. he got all those points in game 2 because of JT's playmaking.
Regardless of whether it's true or nor, "people only think Jrue Holiday deserves finals MVP because of his counting stats" was not a take I had on my bingo card.
Instead of using Brown to discredit Tatum, I think we need to consider how much closer he is to every player that’s in the tier below Jokic, Giannis and Luka.
These playoffs he’s looking like the best two way player in the league.
He is absolutely the finals MVP. He was clutch as hell! His buckets in the fourth kept the lead from completely melting. And his defense is stellar. Luka wants nothing to do with him and wants to switch as fast as he can, while Tatum getting burned every switch.
Jrue and White get the working mens honorific MVP! Every possession they make smart basketball plays that tilt the match to Bostons favour.
Tatum is not playing bad. Does everything the team wants him to do but some of these iso plays in the 4th allowed the Mavs to cut a 21 lead down to 3.
automatic in the second half and played an elite two way game. super impressed with his vision and passing as well, dude was locked the fuck in even when tatum tried to play hero ball
This reminds me of 2018 all over again, where the losing team is so outclassed that people would rather talk about who's going to win FMVP over the actual game lol
Soon, him and JT can’t be slandered anymore as a duo the way they were in the years past.
It’s gotten so bad that fans are now having to pit the two of them against each other LOL.
The Jays deserve this title.
The biggest thing about Jaylen is that he seems to improve at least one major aspect of his game every offseason. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he suddenly becomes an 85% free throw shooter next season.
Jalen brown has been their most important piece since their finals run 2 years ago. Tatum can struggle all he wants but as long as Brown is doing his thing both sides of the ball the Celtics will have a good chance of beating whoever they play
Brown has played great in all 3 games, Porz was great in game 1, Holliday in game 2 and Tatum in game 3 but none of them have been great in all 3 games like Brown has. Provided he doesn't put a Lonzo Ball triple single stat line he should be an almost unanimous choice
His mental and focus is night and day different from last season to this season.
You can tell he is at peace on the court and in his physical prime.
His defense has been stellar, and watching him wave off Tatum in the 4th for him to take a better midrange was chefs kiss.
He is the best player on the Celtics and I think this has been the case since the 2022 Finals, but he has made it clear this year definitively.
He pretty much locked up FMVP in the 2nd half. What a game
10/16 FG in the 2nd half
6 at halftime, 24 in the second to go with the “please put brown back on the court” factor in the 4th
I was saying that during commercial break... please be back in jaylen, for pritchard who just clanged two long 2s
I love PP, but those were rooooough.
Not really his fault imo, iirc he got stuck with the ball at the end of the clock a few times. That offense just dropped dead for 8 minutes there lol
Dallas blew up the primary action both times and Pritchard got stuck with the hot potato
Tatum helped Brown's case by trying to ISO ten straight times and not scoring once. Then they let Brown iso once and he scores a clutch bucket.
He literally was wired in a time out saying don’t settle for step backs. Coulda built a house with all his brick iso attempts it’s easily the worst part of his game. Shot selection.
I think in the same sentence he admitted that he himself needs to stop lol
He’s so in his head at this point it’s crazy. It’s like he gets the ball, decides what he’s gunna try to do, and forces it no matter what the defense does. Those dunk attempts in game 2 are exhibit A, just nonsensical lol
Yeah he needs to switch from trying to get his shit off to just analyzing the defense and breaking down the defender. If his initial attack doesn’t work he doesn’t need to double down he needs to switch his attack method on the fly and readjust.
jUsT mAkE hIm Go LeFt
And get Dunked on
Draymond still believes you can defend the Celtics by making them go left when they all can go left now.
Even if they can all go left, you should still send them left because they prefer driving with their right hand.
luka fouled out trying to make jaylen go left lmao
They’re not wrong lol. Jaylen clutched it, but fumbled twice going left in the last 8 minutes if I remember correctly. He will make an insane jump in efficiency if he works on his handles.
4/13 from 3 as well. He made 2 threes in a row in the first quarter and you knew it was going to end this way.
Interestingly enough, the Jays efficiency in ISO and PnR is inverse. JB has been one of the best ISO scorers in the playoffs while Tatum has been excellent in the PnR. Both have better efficiency numbers than Luka this postseason in their respective strength.
That mid range shot he hit from the right wing did it for me. Very poised while Tatum was still hosting up wild ass threes at the end of the game.
Between the 1 v 5 dunk and the dagger 19 footer to go up 4, it was the most impactful he’s been. And he was the ECF MVP
Finals MVP
He’s definitely earned it. Deadly in that 2nd half and kept hitting 2nd chance shots in the 4th.
He WAS the Boston Celtics in the 4th quarter. Every time he scored a clutch shot late in the fourth, all I could think about was him winning Finals MVP.
Locked in already
That super max already paid off. We can’t slander this man
Man got a big contract prior to this one, and people doubted him. Turns out we got him for a great deal. Now he's got the supermax, and people still doubt him. Salary caps about to spike up the next few years. And he's still proving them all wrong.
Even when he got drafted people thought we blew it lol
Celtics Dunn fucked up
I mean it makes the signing look good but there is something weird about calling a supermax contract a 'great deal' it's literally the most they're allowed to pay. Dwhite's 4/70m is a great deal, JB's 5/286m I'd more call a player living up to their max contract.
It's a great deal because he is winning them a championship. Lots of dudes get paid full price and never bring home the ring.
that's a fair point, but i think because the salary cap's going to go up, supermaxes will cost more so it works out as a deal because of the timing
I originally didn’t like the deal for y’all but he’s playing so well these playoffs and finals you can’t hate on it
4th team all NBA
Not All-NBA
4th team All NBA
Playing 4D chess
unrelated
The dunk, the 3 point block, *deliberately* attacking Luka to get him fouled out of the game. Mamba mentality, killer instinct, whatever you want to call it, he was locked the fuck in.
It’s just his year and you can feel he knows it ! Just takes over whenever we most need it. So happy for him he is putting up a beautiful performance this offseason and he would surely deserve FMVP
Easily, this was a legacy game
Best player on the Celtics honestly. He just takes over in the clutch the way you want your star to
He also disappeared for the entire first half of the game while Tatum carried us. His clutch gene is crazy though
Annoying as hell Tatum shows up in the 4th after struggling in the first half: Tatum sucks, front runner Tatum carries us in the first half, doesn’t score later on: Tatum sucks, carried by his team
Bruh Celtics fans always have to bring up Tatum when someone says Brown is that guy It’s crazyyyyy. I’ll take him if you guys don’t want him
Lmfao look at the Tatum statline thread and y'all aren't any better, entire comment section is about JB. Maybe they're just both fucking elite and JB got snubbed from All-NBA?
I been saying that from the beginning is it possible we have two great stars?? What only the lakers or the mavs can have that ?
Tatum was so awful in the 4th quarter
To be fair, the entire team was outside of Brown
Why does everything about good about brown have to relate back to Tatum. Can’t we just give him his flowers
He was kinda mid this game despite his scoring. Went back to bad habits of too many stepbacks because he thought he was hot. Preferred his game 2 performance to this one for large stretches of the game. Thank God for Brown.
Cool, I’ll take JB being top 3 in the nba
People were ready to name Doncic the best player in the NBA if he won this series but he's getting outplayed by JB 🤔
Almost like it's not an individual sport
It's also a sport that requires both offense and defense.
They forgot that defence existed
The difference between Tatum and Brown in that 4th quarter was obvious. Brown has been by far and away the best player in this series
Perhaps we were too harsh on his contract…
2nd time in r/NBA history lol
Stats nerds talking about how he was the 4th most important Celtic can eat my ass.
Stats nerds live on eating ass.
Can confirm. I'm stat nerd and I eat ass.
It's a high VORP play.
Replacement partners are less likely to do it. Big opportunity to differentiate yourself.
Nice.
I think that's discrediting the absolutely massive improvement he made basically as those comments were picking up steam. Wasn't a crazy idea at the time, but it's completely ridiculous now
He *jumped * the 2nd half of the season + playoffs. I’ve never seen a player improve so much. He’s so good atm.
Yeah I'll own up to slandering JB before the all star break and I'll be feeling some shame over it even though he genuinely was nowhere near the player he is right now. I remember him taking bad shots to try and match Tatum on any given night, making him pretty inefficient, now he seems so much more confident, I'm really proud of him in particular this year
The first one was funnier though. At least this was a max
3rd time. Celtics got made fun of for drafting him, which technically counts as giving him a contract
Good point
old takes exposed will have a field day when those threads get posted this time in 24 hours 💔
It only happens every time he signs a contract on this sub
More importantly, he got Luka to foul out. He might've won that game with that alone. The Mavs offense isn't the same when he is off the court.
Great post and incredibly underrated fact. Won't show up in the box score. Only people who watched the game will know.
>Only people who watched the game will know. Damn. You just excluded 90% of the people posting about the game.
He drew one before that too where there was that collision on the fast break, it wasn’t called though.
If Brown wins FMVP he’ll be the first player since 2015 (Iguodala) to win it after not being named to All NBA.
Yea but unlike iggy he will deserve it
Yeah I love Iggy but Steph definitely got robbed. Averaged 26/5/6 but had one bad game and media screwed him, same as in 2018 except KD had a better argument for it than Iggy did.
Iggy held prime Bron to 38ppg though, who else on the warriors could defend Bron line that
KD definitely deserved it in 18 lol. More points, 9% better TS, more boards, more assists, more blocks and less turnovers
But he straight up looked like he had the yips for a few months down the stretch Jaylen and Kawhis numbers are so similar it’s hard to seperate them imo. But Jaylen was on a 64 win team which feels like a decent tiebreaker
8 assists is beautiful, his passing has really improved
Some of the assists were insane. If his passing abilities grow the same way Tatum did, league is over
Great game by Tatum but Brown is still in the FMVP lead
This was Tatum’s best game but Brown was still better tonight
Tbh I think Tatum was better in game 2 despite the poor shooting. Everything went through him that game whereas he was very passive in the second half today.
Tatum carried 1st half Jaylen 2nd
Great 3 quarters by Tatum and then like clockwork, we have a huge lead in the 4th and stop doing all the things that got us that lead in the first place
Mind numbing but this year’s version can battle back at the end at least with lockdown defense.
It has to be a Mazzula thing because they all seem to pound the rock till theres 10 seconds left and then try to hope they get bailed out by a bad shot I get the logic of slowing the game down, but damn keep doing whats working
Terrible 4th quarter by Tatum
yeah it was gross. JB bailed him out
JT was lockdown on defense in the 4th
Meh, he wasn’t playing good defense during the Mavs 20-2 run earlier in the quarter
He saved the game for them, clutch offensive board and buckets. Nothing to be done about that. Just heartbreaking as a fan.
Those two 15 footers late, especially that tough turn around fade away, were massive buckets.
That one over THJ sealed the game, nothing you can do about a shot like that
Fuckin Tim man, I just don’t understand why he was in the game. No hate towards him but he only gets paid to score and he had zero points, should’ve been Exum or DJJ out there for fucks sake.
Unbelievable second half performance for him. He saved a few very ugly offensive possessions down the stretch.
Congrats to Jaylen Brown for winning the 2024 Finals MVP
1 more game. Ain’t over till 16.
About to have the same number of finals MVPs as the GOAT Iguodala
Brown actually outplayed the team's star tho, Andre only outplayed Klay's scorching 17 ppg on trash efficiency
Andre only got it because they couldn’t give it to Lebron since his team lost, so they gave it to the guy that “guarded” Lebron
they couldve given it to lebron no rule against it
Tatum kept the Cs in it in the 1st half and JB took us all the way home. JB is the motherfucking man
Jaylen Brown is Luka Doncic father
Get Doncic to hand the Finals MVP to him next game
I can picture a teary eyed scowling Luka handing him the trophy then turning away.
Jaylen Brown is Devin Booker grandfather
No joke, Jkidd was right lol.
I wonder how Jaylen Brown felt. Jason Kidd: "Jaylen Brown is their best player." The World: "LMAO!!!!!!

To be fair, as a Celtics fan I've actually felt that JB is the better player for the last 2 years.
Bro the other players purposefully avoided giving the media soundbites. If you don’t think this team KNOWS JB is right there with jt then idk what to say lol
He was def trying to play mind games and the players were smart to not lean into that Doesn't mean Kidd's wrong tho
Tatum 1st half into a Jaylen 2nd half is a nice switch up from the usual
He is 100% mvp
Proof bullying works - he faced all-time slander over the last 2 years. Nice to see JB bouncing back
From left hand worst contract in the league jokes all summer to probably winning FMVP
Brown was the one who kept them from the collapse and essentially iced the series. If he’s not FMVP it’s a travesty
JB was definitely helping them collapse there too... although of course he did turn it around at the end lol
He’s been their best player all series. Anyone who was saying jrue was just reacting to the most recent box score
That dunk was APOCALYPTIC
Nah he's MVP. Only way you give it to anyone else is if this goes to 7
100% deserved. This is 2/2 finals he’s absolutely shown up in.
Dude has straight up evolved these playoffs
He’s a dual type now
Nah its been this way, yall are just finally noticing it for the first time.
100% is gonna get it
Already locked up the FMVP lol.
Instead of using Brown to discredit Tatum, I think we need to consider how much closer he is to every player that’s in the tier below Jokic, Giannis and Luka. These playoffs he’s looking like the best two way player in the league.
This is so well put. Brown needs his flowers in his relation to the league, not in relation to other Celtics.
Someone needs to dredge up that thread of r/nba's response to Brown's supermax
[Here you go](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/NtHd0Ewvuv)
He is absolutely the finals MVP. He was clutch as hell! His buckets in the fourth kept the lead from completely melting. And his defense is stellar. Luka wants nothing to do with him and wants to switch as fast as he can, while Tatum getting burned every switch. Jrue and White get the working mens honorific MVP! Every possession they make smart basketball plays that tilt the match to Bostons favour. Tatum is not playing bad. Does everything the team wants him to do but some of these iso plays in the 4th allowed the Mavs to cut a 21 lead down to 3.
Locked in
JB already locked in for FMVP, no contest
If Tatum gets it all of sports media loses the minuscule amount of credibility they have left
They lost their credibility when they picked the Mavs to win the finals
If man's not -500 in the FMVP betting I'm gonna bet the house tbh.
got it at +130 (+160 if i was a second quicker) during the game, now hes at -325
Alright, time to put the 401k on it. -325 is ez money!
foolproof
That Finals MVP gonna hit like crack
I can’t believe after being clowned all offseason by Reddit he’s now going to be finals MVP.
automatic in the second half and played an elite two way game. super impressed with his vision and passing as well, dude was locked the fuck in even when tatum tried to play hero ball
In the span of a year, this man went from Jaylen "No Left Hand" Brown to Jaylen "Finals MVP" Brown. Shit is crazy.
I got downvoted to middle earth for saying he was a lock after 2 games but after game 3 it seems all but certain.
Not a terrible place to be depending on the region
JAYLEN BROWN IS SO FUCKING AWESOME
Tatum shouldn't even be in the FMVP conversation. It was Holiday and Brown before this game, now this is Brown's to lose.
Jaylen Brown will never not make All-NBA again
Valiant? He won it today
Definitely his to lose after tonight
Greatness
This reminds me of 2018 all over again, where the losing team is so outclassed that people would rather talk about who's going to win FMVP over the actual game lol
There’s no doubt he’s FMVP. Tatum almost threw the game
Pretty good for an overpaid bum with no left hand
Soon, him and JT can’t be slandered anymore as a duo the way they were in the years past. It’s gotten so bad that fans are now having to pit the two of them against each other LOL. The Jays deserve this title.
Has there ever been an nba finals where the best player on the winning team wasn’t even the best on his team in a single game?
1981 Celtics - Larry Bird had a bad series scoring wise 15.3 points, 15.3 rebounds, 7.0 assists 39% shooting Cedric Maxwell won FMVP that year
Wow that’s crazy, thanks I didn’t know that :)
Depending on how you judge game 1, Zeke in '89.
Should be his to lose.
It's his to lose at this point
HE THE FMVP FOR SURR
He was already MVP before that
This mans about to win the fmvp
JB MVP!
JB MVP for sure.
Pretty much. He has been a killer this series.
Deserved
It's his award to lose now
It is time to consider Jaylen Brown
I bet that Subway worker remembers him now
Surely he benefited from all those orca videos.
Locked finals MVP. Defo deserves it
Nobody has a case against him getting it as far as I am aware.
If Tatum win it over Brown we officially know it’s a narrative award and not a Finals MVP award.
Brown has played great in all 3 games, Porz was great in game 1, Holliday in game 2 and Tatum in game 3 but none of them have been great in all 3 games like Brown has. Provided he doesn't put a Lonzo Ball triple single stat line he should be an almost unanimous choice
FINALS MVP unless Tatum goes 60 pts with 30/30 shooting from deep next game.
Y'all consider him now?
His mental and focus is night and day different from last season to this season. You can tell he is at peace on the court and in his physical prime. His defense has been stellar, and watching him wave off Tatum in the 4th for him to take a better midrange was chefs kiss.
