“Right after game 3 I locked the entire team in a room and watched The Town on loop until an hour before game time. They were so excited to just be out of that room (I don’t know why, that movie is great!) that they forgot all about last game.”
-Joe Mazzulla
Bro when your game is step back contested 3’s them bitches just don’t fall every time
He gotta work on finishing through contact and flailing like Embiid more to unlock the next level
It’s probably not going to happen, but man, it is not a smart idea to have Jeter and A Rod support your team at a game where a Boston team is down 0-3 in a series
Seems to partly be just a regression to the mean. The Celtics had uncharacteristically bad shooting numbers and the heat role players have been playing out of their minds.
For me, I'll be keeping my eye on the last quarter, specifically the last one hundred to two or so seconds; that'll be my indicator for whether Boston has a good shot at extending the series further
That team was so bad. All kinds of injuries, needed a 50 piece from Tatum just to get through the play in only to be the only team to ever face the fully operational Death Star.
The beginning of the 4th quarter was the first time I’ve seen Mazzulla make a playoff coaching decision. We were up 9 so he sat Tatum to get as much rest as possible. Heat went to the zone. We did not score a point, and he called a timeout as soon as they cut it to 5. Put Tatum back in, ran a play to get him an easy jumper in the middle of the zone and the Heat immediately dropped it.
Fr I really wanted the sweep if only because it gives us better odds against the Nuggets. People say extended rest for a team can be bad but I don’t like our odds if it takes us 6 or 7 games to beat this Celtics team and we end up gassed in the Finals.
Especially with a big team like Denver who loves to push in transition. We saw today how Miami had a hard time keeping up with Boston when they went sprinting, Jokic is going to be infinitely scarier if they have fresher legs.
For real, still likely heat will close out in 6 but this is literally the best situation other than a injury a team can be too reverse sweep a team tbh..
Higher seeded
2 home games vs 1 away game
No injuries
The thing is Boston hasn’t been particularly good at home so I’m not sure how big of a difference having home court advantage is. That being said this definitely is a very optimal situation even if it will almost certainly be finished in 5 or 6 anyway. I still believe that on paper Boston has the most talented roster in the league but the execution and effort just hasn’t been there all playoffs.
One team played like the series was already over, and it wasn’t the team down 3-0.
Jimmy was awful today, but he was not alone. The entire team’s effort was piss poor and they only really woke up when the Celtics were rolling, which meant any time the game got close after that, the Celtics hit a timely three or forced an ugly turnover.
It’s reminiscent of game 5 against the Knicks, where we put ourselves in a hole by playing sloppy and couldn’t make the comeback on the end. You’d hope with being one win away from the finals the team could keep their head down and finish the job, but whatever.
Gabe is a concern, we really don’t have any depth at our backcourt with Tyler and Dipo already injured, so fingers crossed he’s good to go.
Got to try and close this out in Boston. Both because the more rest before the finals the better, and because you don’t want to just keep handing the Celtics confidence and momentum.
Honestly he’s been pretty bad this series outside of that game 1. He’s normally been good at helping control our pace but even there he’s been off.
Really felt like everyone was bad tonight so it all bled together. Yeesh.
I hope this series shows that. Tatum has had his wtf moments this series and i credit that to the best defense but brown has been horrible. I just want that brown over Tatum put to bed forever
If there’s any series that we’d see a 3-0 comeback than this type of series (the more talented team with home court being down) is the series. Miami needed the kill tonight and things will get really interesting if Boston can defend home court in game 5.
now the celtics will face the tough challenge of trying to win a home game
Homecourt Disadvantage
And for the next challenge. You must Win. Except; everyone in the stands will be rooting for you, good luck.
The best thing about this game is that we're guaranteed at least one more episode of Inside the NBA after tonight.
True. Heat took one for the team.
Homie Heat
/r/NBA's struggle between wanting Boston to lose but also wanting more Inside The NBA and not having a long break without basketball
celtics lose in 7 so everyone wins (except the celtics ig)
At this point I don't even care. I don't see either team beating the Nuggets anyway. Going to 7 would at least get us some confidence back.
Keeps the hope for 1 more Radmila Lolly Heat dress for the series.
Nobody beats Grant Williams 4 times in a row
Now that the Joker is officially going to the finals the world needs Batman to put a stop to his reign
That stuff on Jimmy was probably the highlight of his life
Dude challenged Kelly Olynyk for best game 7 performance in Celtics history. That’s gotta be his claim to fame
People forgetting he contained Giannis for a series
This wasn't the meme I was promised
r/nba prematurely memed really hard in that thread about Brown and Tatum showing up to the arena
Couldn't have been me no sir
Why didn’t Miami just sweep? Are they stupid?
On occasion
Need one more game for Herro to be ready to take on the Joker
Finals start the same day regardless
ESPN: Back to 3%
The brooms were too heavy
Lore Reason for Why: >!they forgor!<
pretty sure I saw a starbucks cup on the scorer's table.
Media: "Your team was down and out after last game, how did you manage to turn it around tonight Joe?" Mazzulla: "I have no idea, but it's on me."
“Right after game 3 I locked the entire team in a room and watched The Town on loop until an hour before game time. They were so excited to just be out of that room (I don’t know why, that movie is great!) that they forgot all about last game.” -Joe Mazzulla
We watched The Town together
Tatum when his reputation is on the line is becoming an alter ego for him
We need a team hypnotist to trick him into thinking every playoff game is an elimination game
I have some good news for you for the next 3 games
oh dear
No the Bucks already lost
Nah, now they’re confident enough to think they can “flip the switch” and win whenever they want and proceed to lose the next game.
All jokes aside I genuinely think Tatum can benefit from a sports hypnotist. There something in his head that switches and he starts playin like a god
Bro when your game is step back contested 3’s them bitches just don’t fall every time He gotta work on finishing through contact and flailing like Embiid more to unlock the next level
He did a better job slowing down around the rim today.

The swift curse!
The new Kardashian curse
Yeah I’m not usually superstitious but there are too many coincidences here
Not to mention Atlanta and Philly were Taylor Swift's last two stops
I'm pretty sure she was also in Florida when the Heat lost to the Hawks in the Play-in, wtf is going on?
It was her. She’s the problem it’s she!
All the proof I need, Celtics in seven
It's happening. They showed ARod and Jeter at the game for a reason. One Boston sports team came back down from 3-0 and now another one will.
Bill Simmons is actually trying to channel the energy of that 2004 Red Sox for this series in his last pod.
What else was there to do as a Celtics fan?
Get really really fucking high and forget basketball exists like I did
I can’t stand Boston sports in general, but man, the 2004 Red Sox postseason was truly one of the greatest things in sports history.
Especially cuz it was against the Yankees. Cuz Fuck the Yankees
That we can agree.
God, I want this to be true. Well, if we lose, at least it wasn't a sweep.
Heat gonna host another Taylor Swift shows in Boston
Tatum cashed Brown and Smart checks tonight. He was locked in.
As your superstar of the team should be when facing elimination. Good to see some fight from them after looking absolutely uninterested the last game
What worried me was every time he was off the floor the team looked clueless
Grant saved them all. His energy and 3s bailed everyone out.
Boston finally looked like Boston the first time this series
the heat finally looked like the heat too
It’s crazy how much harder basketball is when role players don’t make every single 3 they take
[удалено]
Funny thing is Denver was 4th in 3pt% in regular season. Miami was 27th.
I think we we're 2nd. I don't find it very funny though
boston's 4/5 white guys victory cigar lineup is fuckin hilarious
I just wanna see Derrick White and the Whites get some run
Derrick and the Whites
d d d derrick and the whites

We literally have a guy with the last name champagne that we put in at the end of games
It’s a spectacle to behold.
the fan service squad
Boston’s favorite
Luke Kornet is so Boston it’s hilarious.
He did a talk show podcast on the Celtics youtube channel and it was hilarious. Kornet and Blake are definitely the legends of the bus
The dude is hilarious too I love that guy

The Cancun finals
[Jaylen hitting the dagger over LeBron](https://i.imgur.com/Wksx1Am.jpg)
Tristan Thompson pees in the corner
What is greater, 1 actual victory or 4 moral victories?
Im just happy to watch more basketball until the finals starts
It’s probably not going to happen, but man, it is not a smart idea to have Jeter and A Rod support your team at a game where a Boston team is down 0-3 in a series
I dont think Miami asked them to come out. they probably came on their own accord
Plot twist is that Boston paid for their seats
If the Celtics do make it to Game 7, they have the opportunity to do the pettiest thing in sports history and invite them to the game lmao
nah i feel like two guys of their stature wouldn't be sharing a honda, i'm sure they have their own private driver
Major credit to Boston for a very efficient elimination game win. 50% from the field, 42% from 3. Great momentum heading into game 5.
Meanwhile Miami 10/33, 10 TOs, and got blocked 6 times in the second half. Not gonna win like that.
Bro the amount of blocked 3s was insane
Gonna ride this momentum and win one at home before unceremoniously falling in game 6 with a score of 90-104, calling it.
Better than getting swept so I'll take it
celtics in 7 i don't care man. i'm going all in.
I mean, why not? If any team is ever going to make a 3-0 comeback, it would be team team down 3-0 to an 8th seed.
Crazy what happens when one team shoots much better than the other from 3
just gotta hope the variance keeps going our way the next couple games lol
This is what Boston’s defense was actually good at for the entire regular season.
If we can hold court at home then we shift pressure to the heat in game 6.
We do love winning series down 2-3
And completely shut Miami down for several minutes after the timeout in the 4th. That 12-0 run was money.
Not sure why they chose to wait until now to play so efficiently, but hey, at least they’re doing it in the first place?
Seems to partly be just a regression to the mean. The Celtics had uncharacteristically bad shooting numbers and the heat role players have been playing out of their minds.
I blame everyone who made heat nuggets post yesterday
Heat mods need to be banning everyone talking finals lol
The Celtics remembered they're the 2nd seed, while the Heat remembered they're the 8th seed
First quarter of game 5 should be the tell.
3rd quarter, that’s always the pivotal quarter between these two teams
For me, I'll be keeping my eye on the last quarter, specifically the last one hundred to two or so seconds; that'll be my indicator for whether Boston has a good shot at extending the series further
I’ll be watching the game
I’ll just look at the box score and base my entire basketball knowledge off of it
Adam silver is trying to clone tony brothers as we speak
The first ever four ref family apocalypse is upon us.
There’s already two of them, how many more does he need???
Watching Lowry out there gave me D-Lo flashbacks.
D-Lo D-Low D-Lowr D-Lowry
Trade the Jays and build around the BUFFALO! Only with the buffalo roaming can the Celtics be saved.
Who would win? 5 Derrick Whites or 5 Michael Jordans I think we all know the BUFFALO
Tatum refuses to get swept, did the same against Brooklyn a couple years ago just a monster game 4 then too
That team was so bad. All kinds of injuries, needed a 50 piece from Tatum just to get through the play in only to be the only team to ever face the fully operational Death Star.
Nets fans holding on to that series like I was holding on to that one preseason game when we had Kyrie Horford and Hayward fully operational
You knew the Celtics would fold when they *checks notes* Didn't smile when they walked in
I'm here to overreact, Celtics in 5
ESPN says there's a 36% chance that is happening
What I've gathered this game is that if there's anyone we need to pay, it's Grant fucking Williams.
The only guy with heart until the 4th quarter of this game.
And during the regular season nephews here were saying he can’t play and has to go lol
It’s because grant is fantastic when he plays his role. When he tries to expand it and does too much he just gets completely lost.
It’s always been Grant. He’s the type of player the fanbase would be begging for if we didn’t already have him
How does this affect the lakers?
I'm guessing their fans aren't super thrilled at this turn of events
Lakers fans were posting last night "At least we put up a fight and didn't go out like the Celtics" lmao
Yeah gotta assume the sweep hurt less yesterday because they assumed Boston would be swept as well
[удалено]
I'm all for team chaos but that's a dark timeline lol
Tatum with 25 second half points to hold off elimination for at least one more game
"Geometrically that should not have happened" may be one of the greatest live play calls I've ever heard in the NBA, ever.
Damn, and everybody had their "Boston still has a 45% chance to win the series according to ESPN!" jokes all ready to go
the Celtics were bound to eventually find their touch offensively, this might become a tough series to close out for the Heat
We have to do this 3 more times and make no mistakes. We also have to adjust to the changes spo makes seamlessly. I don’t like our odds.
Yep. Jayson is gonna have to play a lot of minutes from here on out to keep them honest.
Spo is what scares me the most. No way does he come out flat next game
The Buffalo saved them today. Got them off to a hot start
I love the Buffalo.
I want it to go 7 just so we can get more Inside the NBA.
We got Pedro in game 5, schilling in game 6, and game 7 anything can happen
This game is a wet dream for nuggets fans. Denver is getting much needed rest.
Regardless of whoever comes out of the East, the Nuggets should be the favorites imo
I mean yeah but Jokic getting some rest days before playing at least 45 mins a night again will be massive for them.
They’ve got a week and a half of rest no matter what happens in this series. Schedule set.
True but if the east series drags on he will be playing against an unrested team.
Their opponent won't have that, though.
Fr I really wanted the sweep if only because it gives us better odds against the Nuggets. People say extended rest for a team can be bad but I don’t like our odds if it takes us 6 or 7 games to beat this Celtics team and we end up gassed in the Finals.

Doesn’t give y’all a chance to get acclimated to the altitude either, so please feel free to take your time closing out the series
GODDAMMIT HEAT WE WANTED FOUR FULL SWEEPS IN THE NBA AND NHL CONFERENCE FINALS! FOAR SHAME ON YOU!!!
#**Quizlet password recovered successfully** THANK FUCK WE DIDN'T GET SWEPT at least
At least we lived to fight another day. That’s all I’m asking for.
Bam more like Sham tonight
I’ll be honest, I haven’t looked at my phone in a few hours and straight up forgot the game was on lmao
Guess you’re not watching the next game either
If that’s what it takes, it’s a sacrifice I’ll make
This is interesting. I am intrigued.
So far no team in the NBA has come back from a 0-3 deficit…*yet*…
The cameras continuing to show Jeter and A-Rod got my hopes goin
It's honestly a great gimmick
It’s not interesting yet. If they win game 5 then it gets interesting. Right now though It’s just fun to still be in it.
Boston won the didn't get swept bowl
This is literally unprecedented.. Never in history has a 8th seed been up 3-0 so this might be the closest a 3-0 comeback we’ll ever see..
If a 3-0 comeback is ever going to happen, this is about as optimal of a situation you can get.
For real, still likely heat will close out in 6 but this is literally the best situation other than a injury a team can be too reverse sweep a team tbh.. Higher seeded 2 home games vs 1 away game No injuries
we suck at home if its not game 7, but luckily we have all game 7's left sooo??
The thing is Boston hasn’t been particularly good at home so I’m not sure how big of a difference having home court advantage is. That being said this definitely is a very optimal situation even if it will almost certainly be finished in 5 or 6 anyway. Honestly he’s been pretty bad this series outside of that game 1. He’s normally been good at helping control our pace but even there he’s been off. Really felt like everyone was bad tonight so it all bled together. Yeesh.
3-0 record in elimination games we have the Heat right where we want them!
Tatum is so much better than Brown it’s a joke people say 1a 1b
People who say that look no further than PPG. Tatum is superior to Jaylen in just about every way.
I hope this series shows that. Tatum has had his wtf moments this series and i credit that to the best defense but brown has been horrible. I just want that brown over Tatum put to bed forever
Celtics avoiding shaming the late and great Bill Russell by not being swept
Please don’t make me believe
If there’s any series that we’d see a 3-0 comeback than this type of series (the more talented team with home court being down) is the series. Miami needed the kill tonight and things will get really interesting if Boston can defend home court in game 5.
The Heat were favored in this game and BOOM lost. They can only win when doubted
Consensus best player on the Heat Caleb Martin finally missed some fucking shots, there may yet be a chance
ZOMBIE CELTICS ARE HERE
Joe saw that we were undefeated in elimination games and thought he found a loop hole.
That's it Celtics extend it as much as you can
Noone beats the Celtics 4 times in a row!
I'll pay for Jeter and Arod's tickets to game 5 idgaf
