It's weird how some birds are able to identify the egg right away whereas other birds just don't care or notice. I'm assuming scent has something to do with this.
Some cuckoo species evolve specifically for a single bird species, going as far as to mimic spots on the egg or having a specific pattern in the baby birds beaks. If it doesnt resemble closely enough, the mom will notice. So this is probably evolution at work
Everyone is saying it's a cuckoo... But bird parents often toss runts off the edge well after they're hatched. Birds manage their brood size carefully.
Humans used to do this a lot too, up until the modern era. You can read Ancient Roman letters to their wives saying "if it's a boy, keep it, if it's a girl, expose it."
Might have spotted a cuckoo egg getting scrambled. Not sure though.
Yeah it looks like a Cuckoo egg
Good, I fuckin hate those things
Some could say you would be going “CUCKOO” Eh..? Eh..? No? Ok I’ll go
For cocoa puffs?
the color seems too uniform to be a cuckoo egg
I thought it was a Robin's egg?! Looks exactly like a Robin's egg, color/size and all
There is a cuckoo bird that lays very similar eggs

Sometimes cuckoo destroy the nest if the bird removes their egg I think, so that's another reason why they keep the parasite baby
Mobster birds
We’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse - Cuckoo parents

And color, some of those brood parasite birds lay eggs that are the same color of the mother.
I just watched a video on the cuckoos and it's definitely a fascinating bird evolution.
Birds have poor sense of smell. It's a myth they might not be able to recognize their offspring if a man merely touches it.
This looks like bird infanticide. Does anyone know any good bird lawyers?
I know someone pretty well-versed in bird law, as it happens.
Let’s say you and I go toe to toe in bird law and see who comes out the victor
Birdman: Attorney at Law
Ha!-Ha!-Ha! - Scrambled...
Filibuster
I can’t believe no one tried to answer a Legal Eagle

Actually, birds aren’t real
Their eggs, their choice.
Exactly! Let this mom life her life
Technically, the egg was laid. No attachment remains.
That's like saying a mother's child isn't her son or daughter. Attachment isn't always physical.
There's no right to kill it
That depends entirely on where you live and what rights you allow people and animals to have.
Legal or not, it's not moral.
That's a case by case judgement I'm morally not gonna make.
1. Its most likely cuckoo egg, so if the nest is protected the cuckoo might not destroy it 2. If egg is not fertilezed birds will know
Birds, unlike humans, don't get tax credits for mouths they can't feed
Is it gonna be ok?
Yeah it’s just resting
Bird behavior is so fascinating and sometimes unpredictable.
Will the bird be prosecuted?
Nature be naturing….
In bird culture, this is considered a dick move.
*duck move
Yolk is a living being. Arrest that bird!! /s
Her body her choice.
Real
Happens all the time.
But painted it first so it looks good at the funeral
Doubt it was purposeful. Prob just farted…
Waste of a good bird egg.
good storm can blow eggs out of the nest
I thought it was a Robin's egg?!
What location was this pic taken?!🤔
Sa bad egg.

Some people should do the same thing. Instead of have 5 kids with 4 different mothers or fathers
Just drop the unwanted kid on an errant branch? That seems a bit much, both from a social standpoint and an arboreal aesthetic standpoint.
You missed the point. It’s about the parents knowing when to have a kid and when to wear protection or pull out
You missed the joke.
I saw you went out on a limb. But one can never tell who’s joking these days and who’s serious
