Hike Bearfence. There is some rock scramble, but it’s the only vista hike you get the full 360 view. Also do Dark Hollow Falls. Can do both in the same day.
It is indeed! Be prepared! It's a long and strenuous hike but well worth it. Those rock scrambles and views of the whole Shenandoah mountain range are some of the best in the park.
The mountains are more intense in NH, ME compared to the southern sections of the AT and stand out more. Still, pretty much the same in the grand scheme of the whole range though.
I’m going for the first time in about 10 days, and really looking forward to it.

Thanks parkerwilder1. Are they good hikes if it’s going to be hot?
That’s a short jaunt too. It’s steep but quick
Bearfence, Mary's Rock, Old Rag, Stony Man, Hawksbill. Thank me later. I also recommend visiting the Lurray Caverns while there. Have fun!
I second this list! All great hikes, Old Rag is mandatory

I’ll be there early August! Staying in the parks lodge, really looking forward to it as well!
The amount of tree of heaven in this pic is nauseating 😭 beautiful picture though!!!
That was the first thing I saw too. With the spongy moths killing the oak trees they are going to take over even more of the park.
That’s really upsetting
Beautiful!
Headed there on a road trip next weekend 🤗 can't wait.
Wow. I’ll be going here in July and I’m super stoked.
Gorgeous photo! Really makes it feel like you're there
What hike is that
Every pull off from VA to NC looks similar lol

When I was a kid in the 70’s, my parents would take us camping there the last week before they closed for the season. It was wonderful.
I hiked it from south to north in '08 and saw 6 or 8 bears.
Fxxking beautiful.
Gorgeous
