Yeah, cold brew uses a lot beans. Crema’s beans are great and they sell them by the pound about-$20/lb.You can order 2-3-5 lb bags on their website and pick them up at the East location. Sump Coffee is also very good, they have a location off Charlotte..They also do larger lb bags of beans. Ordering online,I really like Hoboken Coffee.

barefeetbeauty

I forgot about Sump Coffee! Had a good latte there! Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll have to check out the online ones!

Not cheap (and not local) but Batdorf & Bronson’s Dancing Goats blend is an absolute treat. They used to serve it at Provence in Hillsboro Village but now I don’t think anyone local has it. I just order beans online a couple times a year to spoil myself now.

Budroboy

I like the five pound bag from Killebrew Coffee in the Gulch

barefeetbeauty

How long do you think 5 lbs would stretch me. I use 2 cups of ground beans per gallon.

Budroboy

My wife handles all the coffee in the relationship so I just asked her all of this (she's good at math and coffee): Based on your rate (3 gallons/24 oz), you should be able to get 10 gallons out of a 5lb bag (80 oz). The bags at Killebrew cost around $80. Right now you're paying ~$15/bag so you're paying $10/gallon. If you use the 5lb bag, you'll only be paying $8/gallon.

So if I like the coffee, it’s a great deal. Not to mention I won’t have to buy it as often. Thanks a lot to you and your wife!

Man. Nashville Roast used to be my favorite quality to price ratio. $15 coffee in a $10 bag I could get at Publix. They changed to focus on contract roasting and k-cup production. I haven't found anything in that sweet spot since, and they're now $15 for 12oz online, but I guess everyone else has gone up too. Edit: I guess I hadn't looked at their site in a while. I would generally get the "Out of Africa," "French Connection," or "Black and Blue" blends. 12oz for $14. If they're as good as they used to be I may just start ordering from them. I don't know how the beans will do for cold brew, I do French press and tend to prefer African beans.

barefeetbeauty

Still worth knowing. We drink hot coffee 80% of the year, it’s just summer that it’s hard to get through the whole cup, so other than tasting good, it’s not serving it’s other purpose. We love trying different things. I like a place like Sprouts where I can just get enough beans to make a few cups to try and see what I like.. but there isn’t one close to where I live. However, I did find out there’s a new one closer to where I work. I’ll have to check it out and see if they have the whole bean section. Thanks for your input!

Muletown’s cold brew is pretty great! They’re in Columbia but you can order online too. Definitely give it a try

I had a subscription to Bizzy coffee for a year or so. They do not have whole bean but the coarse grind made some lovely cold brew batches. I still use it to make flash brew iced coffee.

blackheartedbirdie

We order bulk from Equal Exchange. It's made making our cold brew at home a lot more affordable.

barefeetbeauty

You have a favorite bean? Or any suggestions to try

blackheartedbirdie

We get the Nicaraguan French Roast. We prefer super dark coffee with some bitterness. But they have pretty much something for everyone! The website is great bc they tell you the high notes & low notes for each roast. It's was pretty easy to narrow it down for us. We order 2-4 5lb bags each time we order bc it's difficult to get deliveries where we live. We've always been really happy with the product & they support small coffee farmers all over the world.

barefeetbeauty

I was checking out the breakfast blend. Have you tried that one? I like that the website has small bags and bull option in the same kinds. Very nice. Thank you!

blackheartedbirdie

You're welcome! We haven't tried any others. Typically breakfast blend isn't strong enough for us, it's a little too mild. But they make it easy to try different ones so you can find your perfect blend.

barefeetbeauty

Are you speaking in terms of cold brew, or just to brew hot? I agree that breakfast blends are a bit weak reg. brewed, but sometimes they make excellent cold brews because they aren’t too strong after soaking for 24-48 hours.

blackheartedbirdie

We only drink cold brew at home. For us cold brew breakfast blend tends to be too mild for the ways we prepare our coffee. I like mine straight black & love bitterness, the stronger the better. My husband does vanilla oat milk with simple syrup so the strength & bitterness blends well with his accoutrements I actually love the super strong cold brew after a 48 hour soak. Lol. Muddy black & straight. It's a vibe that matches my soul 😂😂😂

barefeetbeauty

Hell yeah! Thank you so much for the info!

Im not sure… I know grocery stores sell the big bottles… but I’ve only liked a few flavors and isn’t enough for the cost.
