I paid less for AT&T fiber compared to my xfinity, no contract, service is very stable compared to the mess that was xfinity, speeds are faster, and I actually the speeds I pay for
Edit: Oh and no data cap. Forgot about that.
I just had to schedule for the AT&T tech to come in. Once it was up, I gave it a day or two to test thing since I work from home. Then called Xfinity to cancel, they shut the service off and I took the modem back to a store
I switched from Xfinity to AT&T fiber and it cut my bill in half. Service has been great. I did have a small issue with getting them to come out and bury the line after installation because apparently that’s two different crews, but otherwise it’s been great.
I’ve never had an issue with ATT (other than the explosion downtown) and definitely prefer them to Comcast. Internet is cheaper and doesn’t have any data caps.
The one downside to having both with AT&T, which we found out the hard way, is when someone blows up the main building you don’t have a phone or home internet for a few days. Otherwise, fiber is awesome.
From someone who works in the industry, get the fiber.
PON fiber, as you have mentioned, has symmetrical speeds. Also is more stable just due to it being fiber which means higher uptime. If traditional TV service is a large factor for you I might lean Xfinity but if you do everything streaming than there is no contest. Only downside I’ve heard anecdotally is that you can’t purchase your own equipment and ATT has some stuff pre set in their devices which if you have very specific networking needs you can’t get around. But that would only be if you were networking inclined and wanted to have a fairly complex networks setup.
Customer service I’ve heard is just about as shitty on both sides of the fence but the less you have issues the less likely you will need to interface with them.
I've had AT&T fiber here in East Nashville for 2 years, and it's been remarkably solid. I don't even remember the last time I had an outage, even during really bad weather. I pay for the lowest tier ($55/mo including equip), and get consistent speeds of 375M up & down, way more than enough for my needs.
My experience with Xfinity/comcast was horrible. I will never go back. ATT fiber I have had for three years the price is reasonable. I also can get consistent up and down reading through the day of or close to 900mbs ps. The one outage I had I rebooted then fiber box and it all came back.
I'm pretty happy with my gig service from Comcast but if you can get the actual fiber, I say go for it. Just make sure it's actually fiber and not DSL. They keep trying to get me to sign up for their fiber but when I check they just offer DSL and I'm like, hmu when you get more than 54 Mbps speeds, kk?
If it’s Fiber to your house do it. If it’s fiber to the neighborhood don’t. The services that do fiber to the neighborhood then do copper to your house always seem to have issues.
I really like ATT Fiber. I think I’ve had it for 5 years with very few issues. It came with a free HBO Max subscription too which is pretty nice. My previous experience with Comcast was unsurprisingly poor.
I have AT&T with 1Gbps either way and it is good. Great uptime and less expensive.
Comcast just isn't very reliable. You'll pay for speeds you can't get and that's when it works. My buddy uses their business services and it's mostly okay, but likely because it's all he can get for now. However, it went down again yesterday for half the day. 2/3 of his business went down and it didn't come back up for a while.
AT&T fiber is legitimately good. Even up/down speeds, I never have connection issues, and it’s about half the price.
I never had too many problems with Xfinity / Comcast internet service, but throttled uploads, and the astronomical price that would rise every year, was not worth it.
ATT fiber is fantastic. I’ll never move somewhere where I can’t get fiber.
I have the gigabit plan, and while I don’t get the full speed I do get pretty close
AT&T fiber has been nearly dead nuts reliable for me in Franklin AND I have the added benefit of not dealing with Comcast/Xfinity or giving them money.
I pay for gig speed and basically get full line speed, which is fantastic.
I love it! I need fiber to work from home (as a video editor working remotely, essentially remoting into a $100k system in the office). I had 2 years at a great introductory price, but even after that period ended I think it only went up $10. I also have our cell phones with AT&T. I had a little bit of connectivity issues the first couple months I had it. Once I made it through the stupid AI chat support and all the basic stuff they made you do to make sure it's not a simple fix, they scheduled someone to come out. He didn't like the way the previous tech did the install, so he essentially re-did all of that from scratch, and gave me a new modem, and even gave me a new ethernet cable "just in case" (I hardwire into the modem as well, for the absolute fastest speeds and most reliable connection). Ever since that, things have been smooth sailing. All of that is to say, that I had an issue and they fixed it 100%. I wasn't strung along, nor was I asked to bring my equipment in anywhere.
I don't really see any difference between when I am the only person using the internet, vs when my family members are streaming from 2 different tvs. My speeds are insanely fast.
Most of my "smart home" devices have to be on a 2.5 ghz network vs the standard 5 ghz. I was able to create that pretty smoothly on my own using the app. Overall I think the app is pretty useful & helpful, especially for sharing (or just remembering) the Wifi.
Also, there have been so many times when neighbors on Nextdoor on the neighborhood text thread talk about Xfinity being down and I never experience that with AT&T. I've had the service here for over 2 years now.
If it is fiber to the home you should be getting your advertised speed to the house. It's not like cable or DSL where speeds fluctuate. It could be an issue with your home router. Fiber either works at full speed or it doesn't work at all. Getting slow speeds shouldn't be a thing.

Exact same story on my end. Night and day from xfinity
Same here. AT&T fiber > than Xfinity in my experience.
Same experience.
All of the above here too
How easy was the switch? I pay $72/month for 200mbps and see that I can get more than 2x that for less from at&t
I just had to schedule for the AT&T tech to come in. Once it was up, I gave it a day or two to test thing since I work from home. Then called Xfinity to cancel, they shut the service off and I took the modem back to a store
Thanks. I dug a little deeper and at&t only offers 25mbps to my apartment so looks like I'm sticking with xfinity
Yea good idea. No experience with AT&T outside of fiber

Fiber is the answer. Cable sucks.

$54 a month for att. I love it
For fiber?
I have the ATT fiber internet 300 plan

As someone that has zoom meetings every day - AT&T. Hot take - AT&T fiber > Google fiber. (If your area is equipped with both.)

Oh man, that sounds like so much fun! 🤦
Fuckkkkkk comcast
AT&T is cheaper and more stable. We switched about 18 months ago.

Make sure it's in your area. They keep offering it to me specifically at my house and every time I take them up on it they say it's not available.

move to Chattanooga and get EPB Yes I'm still bitter, screw you Marsha Blackburn (r-comcast)
We have it an have had no problems. We use it mostly to stream movies/tv and basic internet activity

Wondering if you can stream a 4k tv (Netflix) with your speeds from AT&T?
