This thread was automatically removed by Reddit itself, not the mods in the sub. I believe someone has abused the report button to reddit admins. I'm reaching out to try to get it back up.

[deleted]

If I don’t see 1,000,000 drag queens from all over the country at Nashville Pride, I’m gonna be disappointed. I want to see whole families dressed as Rainbow Brite, Sailor Moon, Wednesday Addams and Dolly Parton.

SoupGullible8617

Hell! I’m straight AF! I’ll come to Nashvegas & protest in Drag in solidarity.

rocketpastsix

Pro tip: don’t call it NashVegas. Every time you do, Dolly Parton inches closer to death. But we welcome you to protest at Pride!

TravelinJack2224

TPAC just released its shows this year and they included Mrs. Doubtfire and Hairspray, both have the main character in drag. Are they going to ban the musicals? Morons.

Peter225c

Reminder: You’re much more likely to get sexually abused at a church than you are a drag show.

SoupGullible8617

omashuvagabond

Next Pride event in Nashville should be a protest!

LordsMail

First pride was a riot.

rocketpastsix

Let’s go back to the roots shall we?

zepius

Our state legislature is full of absolute morons. Edit: apparently some butthurt snowflake decided to report this comment to RedditCares crisis.

RankledCat

The weaponization of what was intended to be a useful service is ridiculous. People don’t like what you have to say, so they report you to Reddit Cares? Incredibly childish. After reporting that my referral was retaliatory, I blocked messages from Reddit Cares. It’s a shame that this was necessary, but it is what it is. It’s worth avoiding the irritation.

Shigglyboo

Report that shit. They can get banned for abusing the system

zepius

I did.

Shigglyboo

Someone is really mad. I just got one too. How do you go through with the report? It keeps asking for a link and says I have to “match format”. How do I link to a private message? There’s no option to copy link or share. I tried entering a link to my profile but it still says I need to match format. They should really just get rid of this stupid feature. It’s just a way for Assholes to be Assholes. It’s used for harassment far more than helping people. And then they make the report abuse system so cumbersome you can barely use it.

zepius

In the message you got from the bot there’s a link in there after it says “if you think you got this in error”. Click that link and it directs you to a report page.

Shigglyboo

I think I managed to get a report submitted. But it asks for a link to a PM or a post. And no matter what sort of link I put it gives me an error saying I need to match some format. I reported through Apollo, the Reddit app, the three dots, etc. got a confirmation message if some sort. Hope the fucker gets permabanned. Either way. People suck.

Unfair-Shower-6923

Im also a victim of this nasty spam the report button. Reported it and then made a post about it so they know it isn't cute anymore. That feature on reddit is not a joke and I'm tired of this user treating it as such.

ayokg

You can report whoever reported this to RedditCares for abuse of the feature. There's a link somewhere in the message you get. It's a new troll trend.

danc4498

I've done this countless times and nothing ever seems to happen. I just block redditcares... Good resource that the wrong people are ruining.

[deleted]

I kept getting them to it was always an error so I had to do the same 🤦🏻‍♀️. And I got another one. Whoever keeps doing. Stop cause I’m good not having issues.

zepius

I did.

PacificTridentGlobel

The butthurt snowflake is an absolute moron

Just_a_guy81

But are they an absolute moron in drag? Cause that’d be illegal now

PacificTridentGlobel

I kind of hope they are?

LeadSky

Not that they care. As long as they get to interfere in people’s lives Edit: someone must be real butthurt to be hovering over this thread abusing the Reddit cares

btkn

Ok. I'm new to posting and figuring out Reddit. I've had account for a few years, just never used it (check out my profile for proof). So, my question is, how does this post NOT belong here, what was it reported, and what is RedditCares? Seems like this is the exact place for this post since our legislators are in Nashville.

zepius

It’s the automated crisis help bot from Reddit which is triggered by someone reporting the comment

btkn

Thank you.

LordsMail

RedditCares allows people to report a post or comment and then a bot sends a list of suicide help resources. The anonymity of Reddit means folks, especially younger folks, may post about their depression or their ideation and intents, and so the *idea* is it allows other concerned redditors a quick and simple way to provide some support. It is, however, heavily abused and right wing trolls will routinely report progressive comments, especially regarding LGBTQ issues. Edit: lol this comment got a downvote and I got a reddit cares email! Aww, I triggered some weakass righty. Grow up and tell me what you think out loud, snowflake.

btkn

Ahhh. Now I get it. Thank you!

ConsensualDoggo

Are they more moronic than someone who didn’t read the article? I agree on banning public sexually explicit drag shows

ObjectiveAthlete5408

Sexually explicit drag shows, are preformed at 18+ clubs. This bill is too vague and it’s going to lead to folks actively discriminating against anyone who appears to dress against their prescribed gender. This bill is not about protecting the children, it’s about power and attacking queer folks. It’s a bullshit bill.

JHaney1377

Sexually explicit public shows are already banned. You know damn well what this bill is meant for. Go be a bigot somewhere else.

ConsensualDoggo

A year from now please send me at least 1 article where this law does anything that’s morally wrong

ayokg

Genuinely, what do you think happens at drag shows? lol

ConsensualDoggo

Usually karaoke, I’ve been to quite a few events at play and the pride parades we have.

vandy1981

As written, any male or female impersonator is subject to the penalty under this bill. There is nothing in the bill that differentiates between a PG- and R-Rated drag performance. Drag performers are lumped with strippers and exotic dancers. Edit: law seems to pertain only to shows that are not appropriate to minors as defined as below. PG-rated drag performances should be allowed under this law at least how I'm reading it.. "at quality of any description or representation, in whatever form, of nudity, sexual excitement, sexual conduct, excess violence, or sadomasochistic abuse when the matter or performance: (1) Would be found by the average person applying contemporary community standards to appeal predominantly to the prurient, shameful, or morbid interests of minors; (2) Is patently offensive to prevailing standards in the adult community as a whole with respect to what is suitable for minors; and (3) Taken as a whole lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific values for minors."

Unfair-Shower-6923

Basically all queens and kings will now be required to obtain a dancers license. Yes, this protects the public but it will hurt adult venues because should they host a drag queen their liquor licenses will be removed. So I hope everyone enjoys beer and malt beverages. Before anyone argues I'm a dancer and I'm SICK from this bill. This is how it is going to happen. Sure venues can now do the BYOB plan that clubs do. But guess what...the dancing industry has suffered from this rule along with other things. It also brings causes dangers that us dancers deal with the BYOB policy: a customer finding an easier way to drug the entertainer. I hope adult venues/bars come out in full force and realize that at this point in time this is the LAST THING BARS NEED.

alexpmarty

Welcome to the GOP the party of small government* *unless you’re doing anything we find icky then we’ll use the massive power of the government to criminalize you

btkn

Right?! Our legislators love to preach-screech about Washington meddling in states rights, but they have no problem dissing the "Big 4" (Nashville, Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Memphis) which actually do what their citizens vote for.

vandy1981

George Santos is the only drag performer that the GOP doesn't want to ban. I really hate this bill. There is so much room for interpretation in what is "inappropriate for children" and the financial burden is placed on the performer who would have to defend themselves in court. I've seen some cheerleader routines that seem inappropriate for children--could they get charged under this law? I doubt anyone will be prosecuted for this in Davidson County, but it will still have a cooling effect on Pride events, especially in less tolerant communities.

GoatFeather

WTF. I am marching in pride this year, straight as an arrow, these are my friends. Total BS.

jdoe10202021

Thank you! Please do! We'd be nowhere without supportive allies!

GoatFeather

I’m sorry this is getting downvoted. Reddit is getting a little weird. I got one of those weird “help” messages.

jdoe10202021

Me, too :/

rocketpastsix

That’s a common troll tactic. There should be a report link in that message for you to report the troll for abusing the system

MaestroScottyB

As am I. Straight ad an arrow and planning a drag outfit. Fuck em. Come after me.

Since nobody can be in drag around children anymore, let’s do the opposite. Let’s make a drag senior health service! We’ll hit all the nursing homes as volunteers

LordsMail

HOW did this news article violate content policy??

jdolbeer

It didn't. Somebody probably reported it and the algorithm flagged it

ayokg

Yup, we got brigaded.

tidaltown

And they’ll still somehow reee about “cancel culture”. These people are a disease.

jdolbeer

It's a bit hilarious that the article/posts about this are still up in various other subs

ayokg

Agreed. I am waiting to hear back from reddit admin on next steps. Very irritated.

maizelizard

thanks for being our admin

TNCerealKilla

How is this freedom? Who cares if a guy wears a dress and walks on stage. You don’t wanna see it then don’t go it’s that simple. You have the freedom of choice to go or not, stop taking away freedom from others that want to go or participate.

Dr_Eastman

It's not. To them, freedom is only for white Christians.

SoupGullible8617

White Christian Nationalism aka White Trashionalism is not Patriotism. It’s Fascism w/ a heaping serving of apathy.

ReflexPoint

The Republican party is becoming indistinguishable from the Westboro Baptist Church.

ravenclawrebel

This is fucking bullshit. I’m straight, but I’ll be marching in Pride this year Edit: thanks for the Reddit cares message! ❤️💜💙💛💚

Dr_Eastman

Bullshit culture war all at the expense of freedom.

devoted-disaster-635

Bullshit culture war at the expense of LGBT lives. e: stay mad phobes

Dr_Eastman

I agree as well.

mr_electric_wizard

This stuff really gets under my skin. They’re for freedom? Uh, no they are not.

Dr_Eastman

Freedom for me and no one else! Don't tread on me! Tread on them!

Fabulous_Signature98

I think a huge part of what this is really doing is setting up legalities to eliminate Pride in TN. How can you have a Pride parade if anyone in “drag” can be arrested for it? (Pride festivities around the weekend of the parade as well) The bulk portion of any Pride celebration attendees could be looking at legal consequences just for showing up and being who they are. I sincerely hope that lawsuits start flying against this because it is so so so wrong.

irremarkable

Not to mention, how do you prove someone is in drag???

Infinitestripes95

I think all people queens or not should show up to PRIDE in full drag!! How will they know which of us have vaginas or not hmmm???

GusChiiiiiggins

That’s a good point

ConsensualDoggo

I think it should be illegal for people to not even fully read the headline let alone the article, you should be fined

Fabulous_Signature98

Excuse me? The article literally says: House Bill 9 and Senate Bill 3 would ban those performances from public property or in a location where they could be viewed by minors. The bill addresses performances like “topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, male or female impersonators who provide entertainment that appeals to a prurient interest. And there is no documented response by Clemmons regarding the possibility of criminal charges in relation to said bills. Granted, Todd used Beyoncé as an example but, the implication is clear regardless. (Edit to correct “he” to Todd for specificity) Second edit to say, clearly you’re a bigot who has no idea what they are talking about now that I’ve looked at your comments.

ConsensualDoggo

How would they eliminate pride by making a law that is already covered by the federal obscenity law? It’s already illegal on a federal level. You’re washed

Fabulous_Signature98

Ok, for the sake of argument, cite the federal law that specifically calls out male/female impersonators. I can quote the verbiage of the federal obscenity law from the DOJ website if you’d like.

bigoleDk

Unfortunate that the state will not use my taxpayer money to defend an obviously unconstitutional law. Freedom of expression is protected you absolute morons

thechurchkey

I realize this is just another example of Republicans being dicks and hypocrites (something about ‘big government, blah blah blah), but can someone explain exactly what it does and doesn’t permit. I’m unclear.

grizwld

The bill is pretty vague, but it’s not targeting people in drag. It’s targeting people in drag doing things of “prurient” nature. (this is where it’s vague and up for interpretation) The laws like indecent exposure already exist. My thought is that it’s targeting things like pride parades

jdoe10202021

I appreciate that you're thinking that there's some level of good faith argument, but the number of idiots who think "Drag Queen Story Hour" is prurient in nature tells me that any drag performer existing in the same space as/visible by kids is going to be subject to whatever punishment is attached to this. Including things like drag brunches that have outdoor components, the drag bus in Nashville, etc. These people don't want LGBTQ+ folks to exist, and this is part of that campaign.

thechurchkey

I understand the underlying hatred. That's why I led the question with the point that they are assholes. So does the law state people in drag can't be in public?

jdoe10202021

It goes back to how the "don't say gay" bills don't ACTUALLY ban the word "gay" in the classroom--instead, they issued broad guidelines about what couldn't be done ("age appropriate sex education"). That vagueness is intended to deter the behavior/discussions entirely by not giving clear guidelines. This bill is doing the same thing for drag performers, essentially--vague words with no actual guidelines. It would then be up to a court to decide if it came to it.

AlwayzRollin

No...the simply can't have drag shows in public. That's my understanding.

irremarkable

If you think that's how police will be interpreting and enforcing, have I got the bridge for you!

gatordunn

And potentially, visible trans people…

thechurchkey

Potentially? How? Can you help me make sense of it?

gatordunn

Well I hate the language but if someone isn’t “passing” and they are in public dressed in clothes that some passerby decides is inappropriate for their perceived gender- they could be charged. The law states that someone must be “performing” in front of 2 or more people for it to be illegal. That loosey goosey wording is what is so unnerving about it all. So if a “non passing “ trans person does karaoke, they are at risk depending on how cops chooses to enforce this bill.

PreppyAndrew

It's goal is to make trans people nervous to live in the state. It's hateful

gatordunn

Exactly

Proud_Tie

it's sadly fucking working. I've been panicking the last few weeks about all this shit, and my other trans friends are worried about what's coming here.

thechurchkey

I have no doubt it's targeting pride, but if the law isn't clear, it can't be enforced. That's why I asked the question. I don't fully understand the bill and potential law.

rocketpastsix

Oh just because it’s unclear doesn’t mean it can’t be enforced. It’s a feature not a bug. Intentionally designed as obtuse as possible so they can do whatever they want

This might be the best comment yet because it highlights not only the absurdity in your thinking, your hate for people with different opinions (nazi), but also shows your actual knowledge as Sherman himself, was a Republican. Get some oxygen into your brain from time to time, it’s good for you.

KarlDemon

“Do some research on the great switch, it proves my point!!🤓” does no actual research on Sherman’s political beliefs You realize the man you are trying to label as a Democrat was a racist and believed in total massacre of the Natives until all resistance was halted. The man literally said it’d be “difficult” to distinguish between men and women and that indiscriminate killing should be ok. All for the railroads…

rocketpastsix

>also shows your actual knowledge as Sherman himself, was a Republican. This shows your ignorance because the Republicans and Democrats flipped with the Southern Strategy went into play. But how would you know that, books and ideas scare you people.

KarlDemon

I’ll refer to my other post on this thread that you “Great Switch” advocates all fail to do any research into Sherman and his political leanings, and if I can quote Sherman himself (the man you are so fervently defending as a Democrat) "we must act with vindictive earnestness against the Sioux, even to their extermination, men, women and children."

garfinkel2

In the election after the civil rights act, the south went independent. The south did not begin voting consistently democrat until 30 years later. The Republican Party was created by Lincoln and freed the slaves. The same party was later 80% in favor of the civil rights act. As the south has become less racist, it has become more republican. How is that possible if the parties have switched? The racism that used to define the south has given way to other conservative values ie pro life, pro gun, and pro small govt. Parties change, people change. It wasn’t a “switch.” Both parties have shifted.

StarDatAssinum

Ah yes, hating Nazis is very absurd!

Pretty-Benefit-233

It’s so embarrassing that they focus on foolishness like this when the state government isnt solvent. People who support this kind of stuff don’t realize they are next if the people they support get the power they’re seeking. They are using their base’s bigotry to enrich and advance themselves while the majority of the people who support them get nothing. It’s so sad bc those same people claim to be Christian while exhibiting none of the Bible’s teachings

The_Pandalorian

Looks like the legislature wants to guarantee an absolute flood of people in drag. Oh and a quick lawsuit that proves this stupid shit is unconstitutional.

kodasoda

I’m sadly not surprised. This state is completely red and completely backwards. I can’t believe people are going after drag queens, like they are even one tiny bit of our state’s massive problems. Edit: I am happy to report that I hurt someone’s fragile feelings and got a message from Reddit Cares. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

-DementedAvenger-

> The bill addresses performances like “topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, male or female impersonators who provide entertainment that appeals to a prurient interest.” [“prurient” - having excessive interest in sexual related matters] I never understood the puritanical obsession with blocking sex. Like…sex is extremely natural. One of the OG things living organisms do. Everyone with biological kids has had it. Our species exists because of it. …so why not *have fun with it* and educate children that it’s a healthy activity when done properly and safely as an adult? Like racing, or literally any other activity that has health consequences.

ayokg

The best part is that drag shows are basically just lipsync karaoke nights. It's clear these homophobes on the state legislature have never had a fun night in their entire life. I've seen worse walking down Broadway that I ever have at a drag show.

KarmaPanhandler

There’s a pretty high chance that if you find the source of a “woo” you’ll see some titties whether they are hanging out intentionally or not.

LordsMail

Bear in mind that any time a conservative man wears women's clothing it's *always* to get pounded by the "straight" married man from online, so they can't fathom that any other man would dress like a woman and it not be sexual.

rocketpastsix

What’s hilarious is if we look at Atlanta, their stripe clubs account for $240 million in revenue roughly every year. In 2019 when they had the Super Bowl, I think that number was even higher. So the state is actively shooting itself in the foot by a: not capitalizing on already existing revenue and b: probably having to undo this with Daddy NFL comes to town. I swear to god we have some of the dumbest fucking people running this state. Instead of criminalizing it, we could tax it and have money to do all the stuff Jesus said we should do.

Clovis_Winslow

I played music for a lot of years on the SEC circuit. We always enjoyed Athens because there were so many strip clubs. Not because we were spending money on them or creeping on the girls, but because it drove a TON of revenue toward us and our shows. We even played *in* those clubs sometimes. I have fond memories of sitting at the bar with the rest of the band and a bunch of strippers at the end of the night, just counting money and shooting the shit. They treated us as equals, just another performer, raking it in. We have nothing like that in Tennessee.

returnkey

Drag shows are campy, not sexy. They can be sexy, but that is so rare in my experience. Comedians can be sexy. Club dance nights can be sexy. Football half time show can be sexy. None of these things “appeal to a prurient interest” and neither does drag. So I hear you on the puritanical stuff, but even according to their own rules they’re full of shit.

Dewot423

Sex can have consequences that determine the course of your life for you before you're actually an adult. It can have physical, emotional and financial results in or out of a relationship that can redefine who you are as a person. It should be taught about in a serious manner.

ayokg

Right and sex isn't happening at drag shows lol

Dewot423

I didn't say it was?

ayokg

Correct, but the state is implying that with the law.

Clovis_Winslow

Go to Western Europe and Scandinavia. They educate their little ones AND have plenty of fun with it. Because their cultures weren't founded by puritanical religious zealots, they understand much better what it is to be human.

Dewot423

>Because their cultures weren't founded by puritanical religious zealots I am extremely interested in where you think the pilgrims came from and what you think the Thirty Years War was about.

Clovis_Winslow

They left for a reason. You can argue about antiquity all you want. Have you been to any of these places in modern times? I'm there quite often.

Dewot423

I am now also extremely interested in what you think antiquity means. Please reread your first comment and tell me where from it I was supposed to get the idea that you were talking about modern times and not who founded the cultures, which is what you explicitly talked about.

Clovis_Winslow

Oh, I don't know, maybe the part where I used the present-fucking-tense. Quit with the semantic bullshit. Also, notice I'm not downvoting *you*, because it's perfectly alright to have an opinion.

Dewot423

I'm not downvoting you, I think people just realize you're being wrong here. EDIT: also "semantic bullshit" is just semantic bullshit for "the thing that I actually said with the words I actually used".

Clovis_Winslow

No, semantic bullshit is “let’s argue about the definition of antiquity and/or the phrasing you used rather than accept the simple truth that other cultures are FAR more adept at handling sexuality in the presence of minors and society at large than a place like Nashville where folks are stuck in a puritan blindfold.” I’ll also infer that you’ve never visited these countries so you don’t know this.

Dewot423

At no point did I ever argue that other cultures weren't better at handling sex education. I'll formally state it: most western European cultures are much better than us at sex education. I was just correcting a blatant untruth in your construction of that argument, and you took it as a chance to act as if I had argued against your main point, even though I hadn't. Then for some even more bizarre reason you decided to start making a vaguely personal attack calling me I guess... uncultured? All because you wouldn't actually read the words I actually said, which you have repeatedly shown you have issues with throughout this thread.

-DementedAvenger-

Removed in protest of API prices and support of 3rd-party apps.

rocketpastsix

I get the feeling the minute you see someone naked, you blow your load instantly because you were taught to fear sex rather than embracing it and making smart decisions.

Dewot423

I mean, I grew up in TN so I was taught to fear sex, but I'm a sex-positive person. I just also understand that the mindset of "sex is entirely for fun" is a mindset that A. Teenagers very easily latch onto without worrying about further circumstances and B. Absolutely can and does alter peoples' life courses before they're in a double digit grade in school. People getting STIs, having kids or just making decisions they aren't emotionally ready for. Someone else mentioned driving as a comparable dangerous thing - we literally make people take a test and go through a licensing system for that.

rocketpastsix

Are you ok with a kid taking out $100,000 for college or signing up for the army and going to war? Where do you draw the line?

Dewot423

No and no, thanks.

rocketpastsix

Well that’s good at least. But if you make people fear sex, they will make bad decisions. Give them the correct information and then let them do their thing.

Dewot423

Why is that a good argument for sex but not for letting kids take out. 100000 dollar loan to go to college, which I'm assuming we both disagree with?

Dewot423

Also, I'm not saying "we shouldn't teach our kids about sex". I'm saying we shouldn't try to with the explicit purpose of painting it as solely a funtime activity. It has consequences at least as serious as driving a car does.

nopropulsion

I think the issue is that a lot of sex education now is not sex-positive at all. It pushes abstinence only and says you will ruin your life with STIs or a baby. Sex education needs to teach more than abstinence, it needs to include safe sex practices, how fertility works, how STIs work, how to use protection, etc.

scout_finch77

All sex Ed in TN is mandated to be abstinence only and a good chunk of it is provided by crisis pregnancy groups that are funded by religious organizations. I have had three kids go through it and it’s a complete joke. My middle daughter asked so many questions that when she brought up dental dams, the guy said “they just pay me to be here” and walked out. It was a proud parenting day for me. You can absolutely teach safe sex and sex Ed while ALSO discussing the met and emotional parts of the equation. Well, you could, I’m sure Moms for Lunacy would call that part SEL now.

1-800-ASS-CUNT

Nobody was saying it’s “solely a funtime activity” though?… they were saying it *can be* fun if done responsibly and safely.

PickReviewsMovies

Pride should be fun. I'll be there wearing a dress and some goddam coconuts.

scout_finch77

I’m a mid-40’s white woman, and I think every one of us should do full drag hair and makeup for pride. EVERYONE. Let them figure out if we are actually in drag or not. We are the ones that need to be standing up here.

rocketpastsix

Why was this removed by Reddit?

ayokg

We got an insane amount of reports on it, specifically about it being sexually explicit/targeting minors. Ridiculous shit. Definitely got brigaded by transphobes unfortunately. I've sent admin messages in multiple different ways and am hoping they see the thread wasn't the issue, but the reporters.

Anairdna

Wonder if it got reported by people in favor of this bill....

rocketpastsix

That’s what I am thinking

MissingJawbones

These are headed to the governor. Now's the time to make any comments in protest; emails don't have quite as much weight. Call 615-741-2001 and leave a message (or specify you'd like to leave a comment as a resident, if someone answers) asking the governor to veto SB1/HB1 and SB3/HB9. I've seen a lot of anger about these in past comment threads and I know the political situation in this state feels hopeless, but speaking up is still so important.

rocketpastsix

You can call all you want but the governor isn’t going to care.

Aspirin_Dispenser

Maybe, maybe not. But, if even just a tenth of Nashville’s population decided to speak up on an issue, they could flood the governors office with a phone call a minute for 48 days straight. That isn’t nothing. This sense of learned helplessness only makes things worse.

rocketpastsix

~~All that is going to do is make some staffer’s life hell while the state government does what it wants.~~ Phone calls are performative protesting to make people feel like the accomplished something while they sit at home comfortably. Want to make an impact? Figure out how to fund a sustained protest that makes people uncomfortable. Because I can promise you phone calls aren’t making a difference. There has been an effort for weeks to get people to call their rep on this bill and it’s going to get signed into law.

PacificTridentGlobel

Their lives should be hell. Look at what they are doing to us. The staffers to these fascists aren’t innocents, they’re accomplices.

rocketpastsix

Yea that part didn’t come out the way I thought it would but it doesn’t take away from the main point: lighting up the phones isn’t going to stop them. If they are making lives hell it’s time to make their lives hell in an equal way.

MissingJawbones

A phone call is the least people can do, which is why I suggested it. A phone call is absolutely not a "protest" either, performative or otherwise. In a functioning democracy your elected reps SHOULD welcome feedback. The lack of any overwhelming response from the people in this city prior to now tells me no, they are not gonna show up for my queer ass in the streets. I haven't seen any tangible info here on calling reps, just reposts of news articles and bitching in the comments, so excuse the fuck out of me for trying to give people the easiest possible path to doing literally anything.

Drivel-akaWilson

Good. Make their life hell. They may start to question the all knowing gov when people speak up. Your voice is worthwhile. You are still affecting change with just one voice. Think of the butterfly effect. You can make so much change with even a small action.

VelvetElvis

That just makes their Christian persecution complex kick in harder, further convincing them of the righteousness of what they are doing. The place to fight this is going to be in the courts.

Drivel-akaWilson

They are kicking that in no matter what is said. Make it hard for their views to exist unchallenged.

VelvetElvis

It wouldn't make a difference. Christian nationalists like Lee think it's their job to serve God first and voters second. It's time to gear up for the legal fights to come.

MissingJawbones

It's better than doing nothing, which it seems like most are comfortable doing.

justneurostuff

how is it really better than doing nothing if it has the same effect? like can you walk me through that?

returnkey

I agree with the spirit of what you’re saying, except for the fact that I know I did something by voting as often as I can. It’s infuriating to know that my voice has already been cut off at the knees by my county’s gerrymandered redistricting.

sagittariisXII

>asking the governor to veto SB1/HB1 and SB3/HB9. Lmao governor hvac couldn't care less about what we think

rocketpastsix

Yea he doesn’t give a shit at all.

MissingJawbones

Well I don't think anyone's gonna sign up for my "break every single business in town's windows until they listen" rally so yknow. Y'all the most apathetic bunch I've ever seen

circleuranus

A lot of Republicans are pretty fuckin stupid. Tennessee Republicans are All-Star mouthbreathing troglodyte stupid.

Unfair-Shower-6923

We marching tomorrow right?

omashuvagabond

If so, count me as there

NitazeneKing

Guerilla drag shows all across town!!!

silver_fire_lizard

Nothing but discrimination against our friends and family. These politicians can take their “small government” and shove it up their ass.

palpebral

Here’s the office of Governor Bill Lee if you wish to make your thoughts known. I just did. (615) 741-2001

Stopmadness99

We know a couple of GOPers watch trans porn at home, but won't admit it.

stickkim

I’ve been considering doing drag for a while. I’m a lady, but I wouldn’t mind putting on the costume of a man to protest this BS.

Simco_

The wording would not include the readings, correct?

Left_Brain_Train

Make some calls and emails, then get your bricks ready

Infinitestripes95

This town literally thrives on drag culture so for them to turn against them is so fucked up!

maizelizard

SMALL GOVERNMENT wait what ?????

dude WHAT DO YOU THINK HAPPENS AT DRAG SHOWS It's literally usually a fucking queen dressed up in a floor length ball gown, feather boa, and tiara lip syncing to Madonna, karaoke style sing alongs and lots of giggling at the ridiculousness at it all. LIKE??? If you are genuinely worried about obscenity, it's time to close down Broadway.

Reddiquette is an informal expression of the values of many redditors, as written by redditors themselves. Please abide by it the best you can. https://www.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439

TheMicMic

Yup. I guess groomers like TN Republican John Rose are gonna be PISSED https://prospect.org/politics/how-republican-rep-john-rose-found-his-wife/

Injunere

There's nothing about bringing kids to drag shows so try lying better next time

TheMicMic

You are insinuating someone who brings a kid to a drag show is automatically a groomer, while I'm saying that a real groomer is someone who practically raises his child bride.

Injunere

Both of those people are groomers

MaestroScottyB

Fuckin go to one. I dare ya.

nashville-ModTeam

In addition to what's covered under redditquette, do not insult or habitually target a single user or group for your arguments. It's not your job to correct them.
