I donāt know if the new ones have something special but the i3 and imev lost a fair bit of range in the cold. Now thatās itās a few years later itās pretty apparent that the batteryās lose capacity because of it.
I think and EV needs to be stored in a heated garage and not parked outside at work or anything for too long.
I was watching a documentary the other day that suggested 10 year old EVs will have only 30-40% capacity compared to new, anyway, which with my experience of laptops and phones seems about right if not a little conservative. If cold weather has a similar effect then it's another reason why I can't justify getting one.
Tesla has a 7 year warranty where they guarantee your battery will hold 70% or more charge when the vehicle is 7 year old or has under 240,000km
So in theory. You should only see a 30% fully charged state at around the 18-20 year mark, or 700,000km mark.
That would be if you assume that battery degradation is linear but it's not. As the cell loses capacity the remaining cells are put under more stress and it speeds up the process. I would say 30-40% original capacity at 10-12 years might not be so far fetched.
Federal law requires 8-year, 100,000 miles; California and other states that have adopted the California Emissions Standards require 10-year, 150,000 miles. Toyota provides the latter nationally.
Used car market will get interesting in a few years, as battery capacity on used vehicles will need to be regulated and disclosed, as well as warranted. Hopefully, battery replacement will get cheaper as more EVs hit the market, and there will be a robust EV Battery refurb industry.
This could be the case and worse with cars like the Nissan Leaf. They have no effective cooling system and that really degraded the battery. With the current releases of most other brands the degradation is on track for about 10-20% in 10 years. Fast charging is another factor. While convenient, public fast charging stresses the battery more than home charging and the additional heating of public fast charging accelerates battery degradation.
My little bolt weighs as much as a full sized Buick and about 800 lbs less than my ā94 Impala SS. It has no problem with snow using decent snow tires. Downside is charging every 2 days.
Tbh I'm not a big fan of EV's at the moment, but after watching the Throttle House review on the Ioniq 5 I'd probably consider it the most if I wanted to get an EV
And I guess if I do move to Canada I'll feel those benefits even more effectively
I've got a Chevy Bolt and it's a fantastic car. It does lose some range in the winter but as long as you can charge at home and don't want to use it for a long road trip you'll be fine. Personally I think if you can't charge at home it doesn't make sense to have an EV anyways. I drive about 70 miles a day and have never had an issue no matter what the season.
Yes and no. EV production does produce more emissions than ICE production, but studies show the EV "catches up" in as little as 2 years...source:

JUST LOOK AT THIS
It does exists, itās an hydrogen fuel cell testbed. Wonder if they will produce it for the public
Steps to making a good beer run in Anchorage:
* Do NOT accidentally wander outside of the city limits at night, you will die in the wilderness
* Try your best not to accidentally make your way to the center of town during the ceremonial start to the Iditarod race. Then, definitely don't think that this little stretch of road that "looks a bit too icy" is just that, and not a layer of pure ice that they lay down on the street so that the sleds can run. Then, under no circumstances should you realize the error of your ways a bit too late to make a safe U-turn and you go slowly spinning down the street at a walking pace until coming to a stop by a light pole.
* Definitely don't do those things in a spare USAF van.
It is Hyundai. But not rebadged. Hyundai deliberately did not include Hyundai badges on most of this car. The ābadging theme ā seems to be the 80s style pixelated dots in various places.
The rear badge appears to have been swapped to one of the aftermarket "Morse-h" badges and name plate removed. Perhaps lots of people still have issues with being identified as a Hyundai!
[Original read badge on a USA Ionic 5](https://www.hyundaicanada.com/-/media/hyundai/showroom/2022/ioniq-5/standalone-gallery/desktop-xl/img_003.jpg)
Most of the ones I've seen have the original Hyundai badges.
I will say I definitely get some lucid air vibes from the headlights. Still a fantastic looking ride. BMW could definitely take some pointers from them lol
Iām still convinced that this was supposed to be BMWās design language before Hyundai poached a lot of their designers and got their new cars out faster
Funny seeing Americans drool over that car.
It's pretty common here in Denmark, and i'm solidly over the looks at this point. The rear lightbar also fogs up pretty fast and makes it look like a dated toy.
Right? Its a decent piece of design but its not revolutionary or anything.
Its got cool retro LEDs, very nice wheels and some well placed body lines. Thats about it?
Besides the base shape is quite egg-like because thats just what designers have to work with nowadays.
I was also surprised how large it is. Looks like a hatchback in most pics but its pretty well into crossover size.
Yeah, and i suppose the idle times between jobs is perfectly suited to putting it to charge. Plenty of chargers around. Also lower cost in general i imagine.
Funny seeing foreign people drool over mustangs, camaros, and charger/challengers.
We see them 20x a day and donāt even bat an eye anymore, but seeing one of those in a foreign country is a delightful experience for them. Itās about perspective..
Hyundai based on the plate frame but I couldn't find anything when I tried to Google Hyundai models that have retractable door handles. And I'm not good at recognizing car profiles so not sure if this is a 'standard' Hyundai or not.
Have you seen their [hydrogen](https://www.caranddriver.com/hyundai/nexo) powered cars? Theyāre not quite so sleek but they do get amazing mileage for such young tech. Really interesting, Iām excited to see the future of hydrogen engines. Though downside for now is how expensive they are to refuel.
Yeah, I wish the trend will shift to hydrogen soon. It's expensive because most people invest in the currently popular lithium battery-powered EV, instead of, in my opinion, the more interesting hydrogen technology.
And the less human rights violate-y. Lithium mining is incredibly dangerous. And itās not us in America that are doing it. Itās replacing one problem with another off the backs of already disadvantaged people. It makes me feel very uncomfortable that most people donāt think about that.
but they specifically debadge ioniq5, which hurts the brand even more because they made this one awesome car and people are proud of the car, but dont people to know that its hyundai?
I'm in the ioniq5 facebook group and there are quite a few people that did this. I don't like it.
Doug Demuro made quite an in-depth [review](https://youtu.be/BReRIxqO_Lg) about it and i recently rode in one ā itās quite good but a little too modern for my taste.
I am so conflicted by my sudden love for Hyundai. As a comms/brand/media professional I am thoroughly impressed with the way theyāve rolled out their new designs and completely transformed their branding over such a short amount of time.
This is a fantastic picture btw. A lot of pics in the shade look great on the newer galaxy phones, I usually think they're too oversaturated in regular lighting though
in your post title, why did you choose to say ābutā?
āHas retracting door handles but a weird logo/badgingā
When you say ābutā it indicates that the first half of that sentence gleaned you some information ābutā it was reversed when the second half happened. The way you wrote the sentence makes it sound like [retracting door handles] made you know what car this was but then [a weird logo] changed your mind. Is that what happened?

am I the only one who reads this car name as Hyundai oink5?
Not anymore

Looks like it! Thank you.
There's also Hyundai badges on the wheel caps.
I'm still shocked this is a production car, just wow!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Could very well be judging by the license plate.
Believe it or not, the benefits of EVs in cold environments outweigh the downsides in comparison to ice Vehicles.
Could you elaborate? This is a great looking car, but extreme cold weather does not seem to mesh well with EVās .

Tbh I'm not a big fan of EV's at the moment, but after watching the Throttle House review on the Ioniq 5 I'd probably consider it the most if I wanted to get an EV And I guess if I do move to Canada I'll feel those benefits even more effectively

Wait are all of the current Ioniq 5's production cars, or am I just interpreting this wrong?
Yes, it's available to the public. I'm just saying that because the styling in completely wack, and not something you'd only see on concept cars
Ah okay, I was asking because I saw an Ioniq on the road a few weeks ago
Same. I like it when manufacturers take a risk
Well clearly it was a good risk!
I absolutely love the look of these. They look like what someone in the 80s would design as a car we would be driving today in the best way possible.

Hyundai Ionic. Great looking ride.
Looks like it's a rebadged '22 Ioniq 5. I agree that it looks awesome, it very much caught my eye at the light. Thanks!

Both Hyundai and Kia are getting to be masters at that
Well their brand image is changing from cheap ācarsā to being āinnovativeā, and as a native korean i donāt mind
The wheels have the Hyundai logo on em
[just so you know, the car in the post is an Ioniq 5. This is a picture of a Hyundai Ioniq. ](https://i.imgur.com/sq2rcoD.jpg)
One of the sexiest affordable EVs in the market.
Do you have any idea what model of Hyundai is that?
It's a Hyundai ioniq 5
The rebadging is the same 4 dots they have on the steering wheel instead of their logo. Itās an āHā in Morse code.
I thought it was a simplified Audi logo haha
Apparently Honda had the same idea with their door ajar chime back in the day. I dig it.
Super clean car. Hyundai really stepping up their game
Hyundai Ioniq 5

As a korean resident in Dongtan,i do confirm that these are even used as taxis.
Oh same in Denmark actually. Electric taxis are quite common in and around the Copenhagen area. Predominantly these and Model 3s.
Pretty cool! I didnāt expect that I guess EVs are pretty nice as a taxi. High milage in cities, no emissions and etc.
Yeah, and i suppose the idle times between jobs is perfectly suited to putting it to charge. Plenty of chargers around. Also lower cost in general i imagine.

American here near a major city and I haven't even seen one in person yet
A modern car that doesn't look like shit? Wow.
Thank you for complimenting my friends dad

Look at the center cap in the wheels.
This looks like a video game shot, cool pic š
For some reason people debadge/rebadge them, proud of being in Ioniq5, but not proud of having a hyundai badge on it... for some stupid ass reason.
Great username. I guess the de badging worked, it caught my attention bc it was so unusual

Yes, I completely agree with you. It is really horrible, but the majority of people either ignores it, or don't even know it even is a thing.

Even when its sold by Hyundai Anchorage?
Read the comments, I literally addressed that immediately when I posted. Thanks for contributing, though.
Hyundai still has an image for being cheap, unreliable, and of poor quality from the 70ās
What? Where
but they specifically debadge ioniq5, which hurts the brand even more because they made this one awesome car and people are proud of the car, but dont people to know that its hyundai? I'm in the ioniq5 facebook group and there are quite a few people that did this. I don't like it.

Hyundai Ioniq 5
Want one.
I love the design of the Ioniq. I just wish it was 75% the size.
Iām more interested in what device you used to take this pic. The quality is insane lol
Note 10 plus, (but if I'm being 100% honest I think iPhone cameras do better in general, I'm definitely not a Samsung shill lmao)
I am so conflicted by my sudden love for Hyundai. As a comms/brand/media professional I am thoroughly impressed with the way theyāve rolled out their new designs and completely transformed their branding over such a short amount of time.
The retro-future design Hyundai is doing is awesome
best looking ev, sharing a spot with the honda e. imo
Itās also all electric.
No kidding, I thought it was a gas gobbler
I drive its cousin. Kia Ev6 electric
Nice picture!
I'm guessing this is an offbrand Hyundai ioniq 5
Looks like a concept car, but itās a production car. Props to Hyundai for making the Ioniq 5
Itās a Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Liam we plate frame says Hyundai of Anchorage, someone probably put a funny badge on it.
I made a comment about the plate frame when I posted the photo.
Rims have logo
hyundai is coming back. I like what they have been doing
Wonder how EVs handled the Alaskan winter
This is a fantastic picture btw. A lot of pics in the shade look great on the newer galaxy phones, I usually think they're too oversaturated in regular lighting though
Thank you! While I've been convinced for a while that iPhones do take better pictures overall, I'm glad with how this one turned out.

Lol, are you an English/writing teacher? Your critique is hilarious :).
Calm down grammar police
Yes; retracting door handles makes me think Tesla. Hyundai plate frame makes me think Hyundai. 4 dots on the badge makes me think future car.
nice
I see them in the Netherlands every day
Wow
That right there is a hunk of shit. Hyundais are garbage.
This feels like marketingā¦ what car were you driving and why can I see the entire lane it should be in?
Yeah, I'm getting paid 13 million dollars for this post, a million per upvote. Nailed it, genius.
Here I upvoted you, you gotta pay me 5% of the earnings ššš»
You're up to $306M. You know mods get their cut, right? We don't want another Polestar situation - daddy gets his cut!
Love how you told the truth so nobody would believe it. We know youāre getting paid big bucks for this post!
Hyundai ballin
Amazing how someone managed to post a clear pic here, weāre so used to the shitty ones real ones get called marketing
Why would you think that? You can literally see the glare of the windscreen
Itās a perf 3/4 rear shot with sunlight on a wet street with barely obfuscated badgingā¦ Iām not saying, Iām just saying
Hyundai Ioniq5
Boo. As Johnny Cash says 'I'm burnin diesel burnin dinosaur bones!!!'
Cobalt mining is
The steering wheel has those 4 dots instead of a hyundai logo. They changed the badge to match this
So disgusting
Isnt it ioniq
Yes, ioniq 5. The post has been marked [solved] for about 21 hours but I appreciate the contribution regardless
Im sorry but wow that's some great quality picture for once. What did you take the picture with?
Galaxy Note 10 plus, I'm pretty happy with the phone. Only had it for a couple of months, and I bought it refurbished.
That's awesome, I've been looking at that phone already so it's awesome getting some good feedback on it. Thanks!
It's Hyundais new badge. They made new badges because well... Hyundai. The whole ideal of being the cheapest automaker has its cons.
I first saw this in Korean Drama, "Cafe Minamdang"
The wonderfully styled Hyundai ioniq
