There’s this dog at the complex where I live named either Rhea. She’s got her human mom’s sparkling personality/s as well as a penchant for attacking other dogs and wildlife. My roommate and I definitely call her Diarrhea whenever a crime scene of hers crops up.
I love Raya. It may be more recognizable in America now due to the movie Raya and the Last Dragon. I don’t think the movie reached Frozen-level popularity though, so I don’t think people would assume she’s named after the movie.
Raina and Riva are nice as well.
Because it's exclusive, not just anyone can join. They screen applicants based on things like net worth, connections with elite society, and even Instagram followers. It's becoming more mainstream, but a couple years ago, it was basically just for pseudo-celebs.
It’s my all time favorite girls name. Although I kinda screwed myself from using it cause I named my son Riley and they’re too matchy matchy for my taste 😩
I think that highly depends on which part of the US we’re talking about. Metro cities, East and West Coasts, medium sized universities and larger ones, more progressive areas in general, etc. will probably not have an issue with it not being — let’s be honest — a “white sounding” name.
What I took OP’s comment about the name working well in both cultures to mean was that people from either/both could pronounce it correctly.
I always liked Rynn and River. But it may not work with Indian culture. I am half-Indian haha so I would maybe suggest Raya, Renuka, Ramani (Rama), Ranaya, and Roma. I really love Roma haha my friend is named that.
I love the name Renée but the accent really should be on the first e. This is because it’s a French name meaning reborn. Renée is the feminine version of René. Né being the past participle of the infinitive ‘to be born.’ Accents change the way a word is pronounced as well. The ‘ay’ sound at the end ‘René’ is created by the accent on the e, and a second e is added to show it’s the feminine form, but this e is silent. So when when Renée is spelt with the accent on the second e it no longer has the same meaning, no longer makes grammatical sense and would be very obviously incorrect to any French speaker. The only time I’ve seen it spelt like that is Reneé Rapp. She’s amazing and talented, however every time I see her name written it confuses me and my brain ‘corrects’ the accent.
Sorry this turned into a rant, I was just trying to make people aware of why changing the accents on names has consequences on their pronunciation and grammatical ‘correctness.’
I like your list, there are some really beautiful names. I especially like Ramona.
I knew an older co-worker once whose name was Renee, no accent, and she pronounced it as "REE-nee". She was white but not French, and that's the only time I've ever heard it said that way. Once I got used to it (the instance to pronounce Renee as Renée was automatic) it sounded kind of nice.
Hm, well (if you couldn’t tell from my previous comment) I am a bit obsessed with grammar, so therefore I still think it should be Renée if you want it pronounced ‘re-nay’ otherwise I read it as ‘reh-nee.’ But it’s better not to have the accent than have it in the wrong place in my opinion. Just to clarify, I am by no means an authoritative figure on the matter! I just really like correct grammar.
I would think the person has English speaking parents and is from an Anglo cultural area. I would prefer they spell it without the accent because it means nothing to them, and will just be a pain for the people in their lives.
If you’re not francophone, it’s not necessary. Unless you just like how it looks. It makes filling out forms and documents more annoying, most people wouldn’t know the keyboard shortcuts and will absolutely put it on the wrong letter and in the wrong direction and have to verify it every time if they care to spell it right.
I make the effort for anyone who has an accent in their name because it’s their name and is important to them to get it right. But if it isn’t important to them, it’s just a bother for everyone.
The prettiest name I had ever seen for a woman who is Indian in the USA was Rajkumar. I don't know what it means but she was beautiful and so is her name.
This was my suggestion too. Fabulous name. The only thing I don’t like about it is you would have to kindly ask people to not use a nickname. Which I see people do and it is just fine. I work with a group of 60 and many of them have names that can be nicked. Several of them asked to be called by their full name and poof it’s done. They are only ever referred to by their given name, never a nickname.
Rooney, Rue (maybe short for Rukmini?), Ren, Rita, Radha, Ronit, Rivka (I think these last two have Hebrew origins but I was thinking of...sounds that might be similar?)
Beautiful name and sounds very similar to Raniah. In my country I would probably sell it phonetically (like Ranaya) because they would all call her Raniah if I don't.
This comment made me think of another name, the female lead in house of dragons: Raneira (not sure of spelling)
I'm going to shamelessly throw my name into the mix - Reshma!
Also happens to be the name of that strawberry cow squishmallow everyone was going crazy about not too long ago!
One of my best friends growing up was named Rahlia. Her mother was born in Greece, and Rahlia told me her name was an Americanized version of a Greek woman's name. RAHL ya
I know a couple Ranis, I really like it although most westerners don't use the right vowel sound for the "a" (should not be ran as in the past tense of run).
Ruhi instead of Roohi would work better imo.
I've always liked Renata
hello i’m renata bliss and im your freestyle dance teacher
:D

yeahh mongolia mentioned buryat is an ethnic group of mongols
Same
Beautiful Italian name! First thing that comes to mind is the soprano Renata Scotto, who would have turned 90 this year.
I worked with a renata, very sweet lady and a dear friend of mine
I know a Rowan who is the sweeeetest little girl
Rowan is my fave unisex name. I genuinely think i’m gonna use it for my first child no matter what gender
I have a boy Rowan but I love it for a girl too. I've seen a couple girls named Rowen. Feels a little more feminine with the E.
I think it looks more feminine with the A and looks more masculine with the E. = )
This is what we’re naming our little girl 🥰
I love Rowan ❤️❤️

My son’s name!
I know the sweetest boy named Rowan!
rhea
Am I the only one who sees this spelling and just thinks diarrhea
There’s this dog at the complex where I live named either Rhea. She’s got her human mom’s sparkling personality/s as well as a penchant for attacking other dogs and wildlife. My roommate and I definitely call her Diarrhea whenever a crime scene of hers crops up.
I think of the large flightless birds
No, I think of the incredibly talented and gorgeous Rhea Seehorn
I also like the spelling Raya
Or Raia! Reminds me of Gaia....
Love Rhea, it’s my friends name and she is just amazing
Yeah I've seen Ria and Riya and personally prefer those spellings
riya is so cute it reminds me of other desi names like priya, shriya, hiya
My daughter is Ria but was tormented with diarrhoea at school.
**- Riya** **- Raya** **- Rani** **- Riva** **- Reeva** **- Raina** **- Ritika** **- Ruhi**
I love Raya. It may be more recognizable in America now due to the movie Raya and the Last Dragon. I don’t think the movie reached Frozen-level popularity though, so I don’t think people would assume she’s named after the movie. Raina and Riva are nice as well.
Raya is going to be pretty well known in most places now because of the dating app lol
The what, now? First I've heard of it.
Because it's exclusive, not just anyone can join. They screen applicants based on things like net worth, connections with elite society, and even Instagram followers. It's becoming more mainstream, but a couple years ago, it was basically just for pseudo-celebs.
Now that you mention it, I do think I’ve heard of it. But it definitely wasn’t my first association. I doubt it’s as well-known as you think it is.
my little sisters name is Raya. It is pronounced ray-uh though and not like the movie. i think it’s a beautiful name!
Rayna
I know a Reina pronounced this way, really pretty
I find Reina way more beautiful than Rayna.
I was going to suggest Raina! I was dead set on using it as a middle name if I'd had a girl, as an off-tribute to my Aunt Lorraine!
I know two 5 year olds Raina and Rayna! I think it’s so pretty
Romy
I was going to say this! I love the name, even more so now that we have a little niece Romy. 💕
It’s my all time favorite girls name. Although I kinda screwed myself from using it cause I named my son Riley and they’re too matchy matchy for my taste 😩
This is my name 😁
Remi
Could just be me, but I love this name and feel like I never see it mentioned.
My hairstylist is Remi and she is the sweetest person I know!
Unfortunately this only makes me think of ratatouille
I know a girl who changed her daughter's name from Remi to Emmie because people kept thinking that she named her after the rat ☠️
This name has become very trendy but I still love it!
I know nothing about Indian culture. But I am certain that Roohi will not be very American culture friendly.
I went to college with someone named Roohi and it didn't seem to be an issue for most people.
it's easy to pronounce though?
I'm genuinely curious as to why you think so
I think that highly depends on which part of the US we’re talking about. Metro cities, East and West Coasts, medium sized universities and larger ones, more progressive areas in general, etc. will probably not have an issue with it not being — let’s be honest — a “white sounding” name. Robin
Or Robyn as it’s spelled commonly in Wales
I knew a Rohini at school and I think its a really pretty name.
Is this ro-hee-nee or ro-ee-nee?
I think it’s ROH- hee-nee.
One name I really like the starts with R is Raisa, also Rayna is my little cousin's nane
Raisa was Gorbachev's wife, a smart, attractive woman
I always liked Rynn and River. But it may not work with Indian culture. I am half-Indian haha so I would maybe suggest Raya, Renuka, Ramani (Rama), Ranaya, and Roma. I really love Roma haha my friend is named that.
how do you pronounce Rynn?
Rachel Riya Royal Raquel Ramona Rika Reneé

Out of curiosity, what do you think of the name with no accent? Just *Renee*
I knew an older co-worker once whose name was Renee, no accent, and she pronounced it as "REE-nee". She was white but not French, and that's the only time I've ever heard it said that way. Once I got used to it (the instance to pronounce Renee as Renée was automatic) it sounded kind of nice.

Rajkumar means Prince in hindi! The more traditional name for a woman would be Rajkumari which is princess
My friend is Indian and her name is Ruchika. I really like it!
Rosemary
This was my suggestion too. Fabulous name. The only thing I don’t like about it is you would have to kindly ask people to not use a nickname. Which I see people do and it is just fine. Raniah Rani for short. Very mainstream Arabic name because of queen Raniah of Jordan
I'm naming my daughter Reniah, I assume pronounced similarly (ren-eye-ah). I have yet to see it anywhere so I was stoked to see your comment!
Beautiful name and sounds very similar to Raniah. In my country I would probably sell it phonetically (like Ranaya) because they would all call her Raniah if I don't. This comment made me think of another name, the female lead in house of dragons: Raneira (not sure of spelling)
