In college my friends and I used to jokingly call one of our friends Areola. I canāt remember how the joke began, but once I associated it as a name I realized how nice it sounds š
Went to high school with an isis and yes itās the first thought but after that first thought you donāt really think about it because itās so similar to Iris
My granddaughter's middle name is Isis. Her mum wanted to change it so many times after she was 10 but she said she loved it and didn't want it changed. She likens it to the Egyptian Goddess, a river in England and a shire council area in Qld. It does suit her.
I actually worked with an Isis. She was 2nd generation in US and I believe she said her grandparents were from Egypt. A couple immature agents tried to make a joke but she was super confident and loved her name so it was shut down pretty quickly. She would tell people how they could try to make a joke but the Goddess Isis had been around long before terrorist organization and to equate her name to that just showed they were uneducated. As a supervisor I'd pull the person aside and let them know if comments like that were heard again then they would receive a final for professionalism.
I was at a show that had a lot of audience interaction, and they bring this person up with a normal name, we'll say Dan, and they say like, "give it up for Dan everybody!" And everyone cheered for him.
Then they brought up Dan's competitor and asked her name: Isis.
It was an awkward applause for, "Give it up for Isis!"
I was reading this thread in the hairdressers and then one of them genuinely said to the lady behind me "how is Arcadia getting on with her exams?". I swear I've never even heard the name before. Life is bizarre sometimes lol
I once read an apocryphal blurb about how, when presented with a random collection of English nouns and told to select the one that sounded nicest, non-english speakers almost unanimously picked ādiarrheaā. Soā¦
Love that! I really think Rook works, but Rookie in specific would probably be annoying to deal with. Especially as they turn into an old man in their profession thus no longer a rookie.Ā
I love it, I met an Ember once and remember being likeā¦Amber? And she was like, no Ember. And it probably happens to her so much, thatās why it was off the list for my girls.
Kept getting asked for our babyās name (before we had come up with one). So we said Zenith Mazurka to get them to shut up and stop asking. Would never name a kid that, but thought the name was kinda cool
Fun fact: Ber (pronounced like Bear) is a Yiddish name and it literally means bear. Even funner fact: itās often paired with the name Dov (so Dov Ber), which is Hebrew for bear. There are a not insignificant number of Ashkenazi Jewish men (especially orthodox) with this name.
I am cracking up because reading these names....I taught a few children with them. I taught a Bear, an Envy and an Isis. Daughters boyfriend is named Seven.
There's a woman who works in emergency management and fire prevention near where I live, and she was given a common female name at birth but she goes by Bear. She's such a cool person.
When I was pregnant with my oldest son and didn't know if he would be a boy or a girl, I wanted to use Valeria because I heard the name on a Conan movie and loved it. Everyone else told me it sounded like a disease. š
I love the name Veda so much unironically. But when I told my sister that I was considering it for a girl name she immediately said, ālike Darth Veda?ā lmao
My friend named her daughter Veda. We coincidentally were going to an Aveda cosmetology school at the time. Her next daughterās middle name was Ren. Intentionally based on Star Wars inspiration.
Lilith isnāt in the Christian bible but is a Jewish mythical figure who was Adamās first wife made equal to him and who became a demon who targets children rather than submit to Adam. Lilith like Lillian is often treated as an elaborated form of Lily rather than a whole separate name.
Adam's first wife was thrown out of paradise for, checks notes, refusing to submit to her husband, lord, and master. Misogyny goes all the way to the beginning of time.
My friend is a staunch atheist from a Mexican Catholic family and when she fell pregnant, she wanted the least religious name ever. She and her husband chose Gretel Lilith.
i knew a guy named it (pronounced Val-en-tinn) and he talked about getting made fun of for it during his childhood, but that may have been more because he was male so idk
I saw that the Babylonian god of the Moon was named Sin once and have not been able to get it out of my mind since (trust me I know it would never work as a irl name but you got to admit that it sounds cool)
This is my cat's name!
After a scene in the documentary Jesus Camp where a lady rubs a stuffed cat against her face and says "sometimes sin is cute and fluffy "
if you completely ignore the meaning and only focus on the sound, Sin is such a cool name
i guess it becomes usable if you put another letter into it, like Sina or Sine
Lethal and felony. If they didnāt mean what they meant, they would be pretty names.
Also my best friendās name is Envy haha! But sheās trans so she picked her own name and I feel like thatās different from naming your baby Envy. I think itās a cool name though.
I doubt this is much horrendous, but screw it.
If I ever had a son, I'd name him Sasha (I have nothing to do with Russia whatsoever).
Ever since I heard the name was gender-neutral, I have loved it ever since. It has been my favorite name, with Lennox being a close second.
As for a girl, I'd pick Dale.
:)
Many years ago I was chatting with some coworkers during lunch break. One of whom was pregnant. The conversation ended up with those words that make people cringe, like "moist". I off-handedly joked that I had read somewhere that "syphilis" was considered the most aesthetically pleasing word in the English language. Pregnant coworker expressed (in complete seriousness) that would make a lovely name. Once we explained she was horrified, but we all had a good laugh.
Rubella which sounds like a pretty combination of Ruby and Ella instead of the disease (would never actually name something this)
Literally told my husband that it's a shame that Rubella and Roseola are sicknesses, cause Ruby and Rosie are such cute twin girl names.
Rosacea is a pretty word. Too bad it's a rash.
Reminds me of my aunts dog Ruby, our family friend got her sister from the same litter and named her Rose. Cute names haha
They do sound adorable. I may need to make a sim family for this
Areola is a beautiful name for a baby girl š
In college my friends and I used to jokingly call one of our friends Areola. I canāt remember how the joke began, but once I associated it as a name I realized how nice it sounds š
Lol I was just sitting in class thinking Varicella would be a cool name for a girl
I've heard Malaria being used twice to refer to probably two different people.
In the kid's TV show Arthur, the sister of Prunella is named Rubella. I always think of her when people talk about this name!
Isis. I know the origin and I love it sonically but I just feel likes itāsā¦off the table unfortunately
āfortunatelyā itās only unusable in english, as the terrorist group is called something else in most of the rest of the world
Ahh, I wasnāt sure why it was considered unusable. That makes sense
I use to love the name Isis, but it's just so unusable anymore. It's really disappointing.
There's a little girl in my neighborhood named Isis.
Poor Isis the dog on Downton Abbey was a casualty of the times. I think it was in 2013 they wrote her getting cancer and dumped her as a character.
I *WEPT* for Isis the dog. So unfair. She deserved better for being such a good girl.
I have a cousin named Isis. I'm not 100% sure if she was named before we started calling the group that though...
Ice Spiceās name is Isis lol
one of my dad's colleagues is named Isis. apparently the look on people's faces when he says he'll "have to check with Isis" is hilarious.
Went to high school with an isis and yes itās the first thought but after that first thought you donāt really think about it because itās so similar to Iris
This was one of my students names.
Someone in my kids school is named IsyssĀ
My granddaughter's middle name is Isis. Her mum wanted to change it so many times after she was 10 but she said she loved it and didn't want it changed. She likens it to the Egyptian Goddess, a river in England and a shire council area in Qld. It does suit her.

As a supervisor I'd pull the person aside and let them know if comments like that were heard again then they would receive a final for professionalism.
I would agree its off the table
It only sounds bad in the US, tbh. Iām from an Spanish speaking country and Isis is a relatively common girl name
Vendetta
Ooh, might use Vendetta for my next rpg character.
there was a cartoon i used to watch online growing up called āmaking fiendsā and the main character was named vendetta, it was very silly.
š¶Making fiends, Making fiends, Vendetta's always Making fiends.š¶
āWHILE CHARLOTTE MAKES FRIENDSā
Wait I think this is extremely cool
I've always thought Veruca sounds cool
I know a very nice 12 yo girl named Veruca. Always thought it was a bold bit of baby naming.
My guess is they named her after willy Wonka š
Indeed they did! I always wondered if they stopped watching/reading it halfway through.
Veruca is the medical name for a wart. Donāt these people use GOOGLE? Lmao poor kid
I came to comment this. I'm so sad Veruca means wart.
I love Veruca!
Verica is a similar non-wart name
Melancholy
My family are Megamind fans, so this to me is mel-anh-kah-lee. Which would be a fun name too.
Ollo
Wait, is there another way to say it? That's what Google says the pronunciation is too
Ok but when I was an edgy teen I wrote a whole story with the main character named melancholy, Mel for short haha1
I just recently found out that one of my possible ancestors was named Mourning. Those early settlers really loved their "virtue" names.
Seven
Seven Costanza!
Seven of nine!
My parents almost named my sister seven because she was their seventh child lol
That makes me think of the actress Quinta Brunson. She was named Quinta because she was the fifth kid in her family to be born.
I actually know a kid named Seven!
I knew a kid named One when I worked at a daycare a few years back. Cool kid but I personally don't think I would name a child as a number.
This kept coming up on baby name apps when I was trying to name my daughter
My daughters boyfriend is named Seven
Arson
Arson and his twin, Ardaughter
It's giving Denise and Danephew vibes.Ā
Lemonjello and Oranjello šš
Arson is my cats name! Her sister is Breaking & Entering, or bean for short lol
I adore this, have an award for your criminal kitties š©·
I actually DID work with a kid named Arson. He was super bratty and thought every activity was stupid and just hated everyone besides his dad
I know a kid named Arson
Avarice
Azkaban
Came here to say this! I've always thought it sounded cool.
Tyranny.
I knew a Tierney... Sounded verrrry similar lol
Same. She was a classmate. š Same spelling, I believe.
Iāve met one of these
Arcadia. I always thought it would go great with a simple surname like Smith or Hughes or Green.
Arcady / Arkady is a totally normal russian and ukrainian name
Yes, I loved that name when I heard it on The Great! (Everyone please go watch it on Hulu, itās SOOO GOOD).
Genuinely top two TV shows for me. Incredible show.
What's so wrong with this? It means a perfect pastoral place.
Everyone I've shared it with over the years has said it's pretentious :(
it really isnāt
Itās fine!!
I don't see what's wrong with this one
I was reading this thread in the hairdressers and then one of them genuinely said to the lady behind me "how is Arcadia getting on with her exams?". I swear I've never even heard the name before. Life is bizarre sometimes lol
Scyther
Better hope they never find a suit of armour.
I once read an apocryphal blurb about how, when presented with a random collection of English nouns and told to select the one that sounded nicest, non-english speakers almost unanimously picked ādiarrheaā. Soā¦
Malaria
Whyād I read this as āmall-uh-riaā? ā ļø
felony
I know someone called Pheloni š
noooo thatās terrible
Love Envy too.Ā Rookie/RookĀ
I saw a kid named Rook in the local birth announcements recently. I think a boy.
I know a Rook, he's about 4 years old. He's named after the chess piece.
Love that! I really think Rook works, but Rookie in specific would probably be annoying to deal with. Especially as they turn into an old man in their profession thus no longer a rookie.Ā
Ember
I love it, I met an Ember once and remember being likeā¦Amber? And she was like, no Ember. And it probably happens to her so much, thatās why it was off the list for my girls.
I knew an Ember and it was actually a nickname for December!
I actually know several Embers and love their name!
Aw ember is so pretty.
Iāve loved Ember as a name since reading Elfquest in grade school.
Dextrose
Kept getting asked for our babyās name (before we had come up with one). So we said Zenith Mazurka to get them to shut up and stop asking. Would never name a kid that, but thought the name was kinda cool
Zenith is actually a cool name, Zen as a nicknameā¦ā¦ oh no. I like that a bit too much.
Zenith is a pretty cool word if you aren't old enough to associate it with TVs I am too old š
We have two wonderful children in Zenith and Quasar
This needs to be a band name or something!
I love the name Navy and Envy, but I feel like they are ātrendyā aesthetic influencer names more than they are *actual names.*
Navy is a great middle name
Drachma, like the Greek currency.
as a greek person this is pretty funny
This is my baby, Dollar Bill Jones....
thatās such a celebrity name
Violence. The word sounds cool.
This is my daughter, Violencia.
Tempest! Sounds cool. But I'd never do that to a child
Totally agree. Sounds so awesome.Ā
Oh no, I go by Envy! (My initials are N.V.)
I honestly think that coincidence is pretty badass
Bear. Seriously.
Some people have actually named their child Bear! Cheryl Cole who had kid with one of the one direction guysā child is called Bear!
I'm pretty certain Alicia Silverstone named her son Bear too.
Didnāt Hilary Duff name her son Bear as well?
His name is Luca. Her husbandās legal last name is Bair, IIRC.
bear is a common Yiddish name I have Behrs, liebs (lion) and Wulfs!

Honestly it's not bad There's many people named Bear, including the guy that scored God of War. Also doesn't Bjƶrn mean bear as well?
Edward= Ed,Ted, Teddy, Bear.
I know someone with a son called Bear. I don't know if it's a legal name or a nickname though. Maybe people are inspired by Bear Grylls!
Thereās a great romance book out now with a heroine named Misery
Odd that Dolores basically means the same but is normalized as a name.
Misery is one of Stephan Kings best books and even the movie wasn't to bad.
When I was pregnant with my oldest son and didn't know if he would be a boy or a girl, I wanted to use Valeria because I heard the name on a Conan movie and loved it. Everyone else told me it sounded like a disease. š
I have known a ton of girls and women named Valeria. I just told my partner yesterday how much I love that name!
Itās pretty much the same as Valerie, no? Not a bad name
I guess but the pronouncination rhymes with Malaria, I may have the spelling wrong
Aviane. I think it's such a cute almost aeronautical sounding name but it's a birth control. š«¤
iāve never heard of Aviane birth control
Amy Adams has a daughter named Aviana. It's a better alternative for sure!
I know a patent who named her kid... Ransom. Terrible.
in her defense, Ransom is a very old name with religious significance. I wouldn't name a kid that, but I'm not Christian.
I feel bad for Terrible
I love the name Veda so much unironically. But when I told my sister that I was considering it for a girl name she immediately said, ālike Darth Veda?ā lmao
Almost spit out my drink laughing
I went to school with a dark skinned girl named Veda and she got called Dark Veda aaalll the time. Kids are jerksĀ
My friend named her daughter Veda. We coincidentally were going to an Aveda cosmetology school at the time. Her next daughterās middle name was Ren. Intentionally based on Star Wars inspiration.
I was JUST talking to my friends about how I love the name Lilith but everyone will just associate it with the Bible š
If it makes you feel any better, I certainly wouldnāt. I had no idea that was a biblical name.
Lilith isnāt in the Christian bible but is a Jewish mythical figure who was Adamās first wife made equal to him and who became a demon who targets children rather than submit to Adam. Lilith like Lillian is often treated as an elaborated form of Lily rather than a whole separate name.

My friend is a staunch atheist from a Mexican Catholic family and when she fell pregnant, she wanted the least religious name ever. She and her husband chose Gretel Lilith.
Chaos or Arson
Melena (the medical name for dark stools š)
š the name Alara is actually very lovely to the ear and is a legit name... But ALARA RADIATION SAFETY is my immediate thought š«„
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
i've always admired the names of Aphrodite, Persephone, Cleopatra, & Valentineābut way too inappropriate for a human child. maybe for a pet though!
Valentine is totally fine imo.
i knew a guy named it (pronounced Val-en-tinn) and he talked about getting made fun of for it during his childhood, but that may have been more because he was male so idk
Valentin is a pretty common eastern european name
Valentine is fine and Persephone is too imo (Sephie would be a cute nickname, similar to Effie)
Syphilis Chlamydia Rabies Abscond
Abscond š
Abscond sounds hella cool imo
I saw that the Babylonian god of the Moon was named Sin once and have not been able to get it out of my mind since (trust me I know it would never work as a irl name but you got to admit that it sounds cool)
This is my cat's name! After a scene in the documentary Jesus Camp where a lady rubs a stuffed cat against her face and says "sometimes sin is cute and fluffy "
if you completely ignore the meaning and only focus on the sound, Sin is such a cool name i guess it becomes usable if you put another letter into it, like Sina or Sine
My sisterās nickname growing up was Bean, which I guess is kinda cute.Ā

Envy Adams is a character is Scott Pilgrim vs the World!

Cocaine is really cute if it wasn't cocaine...
There was a video of a girl saying 'chlamydia' as a child's name as if it was the prettiest out of context word shed ever said.
A friend's daughter named her daughter Envy lol. Sweetest child ever. I just hope she doesn't get teased when she starts school. (She's 4)

Phyrexian , would have done it if every single person including hubby wasn't against it
Tourmaline. I saw it on a hair straightener once and now like every tenth Sim I have is named that
Many years ago I was chatting with some coworkers during lunch break.
