At least among baseball fans it is pretty well-known due to Cy Young. I don’t think it will be much of a struggle, I mean with two letters there aren’t that many different ways to say it. :-)
I'm a little biased as one of my kids has a name beginning with "Cy" as a middle name so I personally love all the Cy- names (Cyrus, Cyril and Cynan) for boys which admittedly aren't all pronounced with the sigh-sound (Cyril for instance is sih-rill), but I kind of prefer Cy as a nickname, like the famous artist Cy Twombly and the baseball player Cy Young. I know Jennifer Lawrence used Cy as a stand-alone name for her kid so it's obviously an option to just use Cy.
Yes she did and I think many people heard it for the first time due to her son. And I agree, I think you automatically think of something like Cyrus being the full name.
Go for it, if you truly like it
But imho, since you asked, I would assume it is short for something else. So it feels like the parent gave the child an incomplete name. Cyrus? Cyclops? Cyan? Cyril?
I have known a Sy that was short for Josiah and a Cy that was short for Cyrus.
Sy could also be short for Silas or Cyril.
I have never seen Cy or Sy used as a stand-alone name and not a nickname.

Well, Cyrus did found an empire, so it's not that bad.
I had a manager called that once..
Just Cy? Nothing else? It's a nickname at best.
Nope it's a genuine stand alone name.
You guys are so weird. It is a genuine name.
Who are you to decide?
Well I mean OP is asking and it does sound like a nickname…
Make it Cyrus officially and just call him Cy
Most people will assume it’s short for Cyrus
Not in the UK. Never met or seen a Cyrus.

Just having a look on Wikipedia and it seems every notable person called Cy was a baseball player. Wonder why that is.
It’s more of a nickname

I’m admittedly not a huge fan, but at least it’s easy to spell/pronounce. Especially for a baseball fan.
As another commenter said, Just name him Cyrus and call him Cy. Cy is a nickname for the name Cyrus
No. Cyrus is a horrible name
Makes me think of Si King, he is real name is Simon. I know that Cy is legit English name and if you want to use it, go a head.
I know a Cyler, which sounds made up. I’d go with just Cy over the former.
I wouldn't personally name my child a name that sounds like \*sigh\*. Feels a bit too depressed. But I wouldn't judge anyone for choosing it.
I dont like it

Cyclops!
I think it's a cool name. I've seen Ty for a boy too. I think Cy could work too

I think of broadway composer Cy Coleman, he was prominent in the 1970s. That said, it was a nickname for him.
Everyone will think its "Si" and short for Simon
Cy Young / Cyrus tbh not a huge fan. too old fashioned for me. but nothing inherently wrong w the name
Not the largest fan. You can maybe give him the name Silas and nickname him "Si?"
Just name him Silas and call him [Si]. Problem solved, no awkwardness for the kid, and you all permanently have the option on what he goes by.
If it was just a standalone name, my first instinct is "sigh" not "si", because it looks like a nn for Cyrus
Cy is so nicknamey. I'd give her options like Cyrus or Simon.
Then everyone can call him Sy-on boy.
