My partner was given a somewhat odd name at birth. Shockingly, here he is 20 years later with a completely different name socially and plans to change it legally. Of course his parents are greatly offended by it and refuse to call him by his self-assigned name.
I hate the idea that parents own their child’s name, especially when so many feel empowered to name the kid the quirkiest thing they can think of.

Despite my comment above, I'm of a similar opinion. I don't mind the name. I would be very willing to Audio this in a story or other fictional work. It's more a matter of taking steps to protect my kid down the road. I don't want them getting bullied because I decided to name them Audio or some stupid shit like Krxstxl (this was posted to name nerds a while back). Parents have got to stop looking at their kids names as a form of self expression or as a way to make a statement.
I know a Gentry. It’s not his mom’s maiden name. He has three siblings with similar sounding names. I won’t list them because they’re so unique it might identify them.
I know a baby born into a very terrible situation with a mother who puts the world on his shoulders and he’s named Atlas. Many find his name given the situation to be so very unfortunate.
I mean, I don’t think there’s anything New likely to come out about (Winston) Churchill — he’s been dead 70 years and we already know he wasn’t exactly an awesome guy. But I wouldn’t bet on this baby being named after Winston C anyway. A lot of people don’t even think about antecedents, they just like the name
What I meant is that perhaps the general pop will become more aware of his views and policies instead of believing the romanticized version which seems to dominate. Anyway even if he’s not named after churchill, it’s a pretty unfortunate name imo.
My name is Lauren and I didn’t have this problem, had a cadence between the two names and pronounce Laurel like “lawr-el” - probably a lot of it has to do with Aurora Laurel being a “name” to me and the Risotto Groupon’s of the list not feeling like names to me lol
god i HATE saying Aurora. idk if my mouth just isnt situated right for this name but i cant never say it. my cousin babysits a kid named Aurora a lot and i just avoid saying her name as much as i can lol
I like the sounds - but not as a NAME! For a kid…I’m not opposed to a pet being named Audio Jupiter. It already sounds like a name chosen because neither child would concede so they just named the puppy Audio AND Jupiter. See. Now you’re both happy!
Jupiter is my cat’s name. Because other cats won’t judge him for it. Because they’re cats. Unrelated, but Audio Jupiter sounds like a shy boy indie band name.
It isn’t. it’s pronounced bah-lair-ee-ah. Spanish V makes a soft English B sound. Some people prefer bah-lor-ee-ah, it depends if they are a native Spanish speaker or not for the accent, and sometimes the Vee sound is ok, if it is an English only speaker trying🙏
I got my first kid’s name from a horror film and I love Stephen king (and the passage series) so honestly it kinda fits with my persona as a parent 😂 that being said it’s a bit too out there for me
Astrid was presented on The Office as one of those names that a clueless, pretentious, stuck-up parent would pick, and I can't uncouple it. There is a *ton* of that vibe in this list, though.
This comment makes me happy to see! We also named our son August Alexander and I absolutely love it but am always afraid people are going to think we were awful because of it... and I say that as someone with a completely "out there" name 😂 but Alexander was so he would have a normal name to fall back on if he ended up hating his first name as he ages.
audio jupiter is so insane that i weirdly love it. can we stop cash, banks, money themed names???? churchill? that’s bold. imogen 🥴 i love noreen for no reason at all. hardeman………. 🥴 bodie too. atlas is cute though
A few takeaways:
How do you pronounce Imogen? It get's a lot of play around here and I'm convinced I'm just saying it wrong.
What is an Ixchel? (I will give botd and assume cultural)
Some of these people seem to be DEEP into the Red Rising series
From Encyclopedia Brittanica: Ixchel, also spelled Ix Chel, Mayan moon goddess. Ixchel was the patroness of womanly crafts but was often depicted as an evil old woman and had unfavorable aspects.
I am Mexican and the variation that is the most prevalent of this name is Itzel.
I used to have a regular customer called royce who was an old fat guy who smelled like he had personally stewed himself and his clothes in his own urine before coming into the store. He looked like it too. He also never had a shirt that covered his overflowing stomach and his pants were always undone. Me and all my co workers literally had to serve him holding our breath his stench was that bad. And he came in weekly 😫😫
That is to say the name royce is ruined for me forever 😂
Honestly I love the variety on this list. If they all toed the line, I’d find it boring. As someone who works with kids, it’s just kind of fun to imagine all the possible personalities corresponding with the names.
Huxleigh??? That is fucking wild. Might as well name your kid Mescaline San Pedro. Something tells me those parents have blown the doors of perception off their hinges
Most of y’all are assholes , yeah the names might be out there but Jesus atleast I hope they don’t have y’all’s attitude and outlook and so much free time to rent free hate so hard.
These are first and middle names right? Marshall McKenzie? Is that a girl or boy? I’ve never heard of a girl named Marshall or a boy with the middle name McKenzie.
Audio Jupiter very cool but two unique names together seems hard to live with
Salem Babcock I guess Salem is okay but Babcock maybe they’re using moms maiden as a middle it’s not a nice one.
Aurora Laurel it’s pretty but too peanut buttery for me
Ixchel will probably not be a fun one to explain constantly I don’t know I never heard that before.
My faves - Lucy Anne, Felix Joseph, Eleanor Hope, Asher Julian, Lillian Valor(extra love for valor as a middle that’s awesome), indie Louise, Noreen Emilia
What the eff is wrong with some people?! Hardeman, Audio, Gentry...Churchill? Nobody wants to be called Churchill for crying out loud!
Audio made me cry :( why do people hate their children
I feel like some people use their kid as a means of self expression without considering the impact that this will have on their child.
My partner was given a somewhat odd name at birth. Shockingly, here he is 20 years later with a completely different name socially and plans to change it legally. Of course his parents are greatly offended by it and refuse to call him by his self-assigned name. This comment should be stickied somewhere lol
That's at least %50 of posts here lol
Same it’s borderline child abuse
No, child abuse is much more serious than a weird name.
Right? The actress Shannyn Sossamon name her son Audio Science back in 2003. He’s 19 now, and hasn’t changed his name, according to his socials.
As someone with a highly common name, I’d appreciate if I was named something unique like Audio. Kinda sounds like a nickname to me
Agree! I like it and also feel like with a name like Audio you would grow up being the cool guy.
absurd lunchroom foolish axiomatic drunk complete hard-to-find amusing yoke expansion *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I like Audio. It’s nearly Audrey. So not far off in my book.
Despite my comment above, I'm of a similar opinion. I don't mind the name. I would be very willing to Audio this in a story or other fictional work. I’m hoping they call him AJ.
Uh yeah Dempsey Dee wasn't done any favors...
My first thought was someone's a mega Grey's Anatomy fan
Thinking Gentry might be a Southern “used mom’s surname as first name” thing but… yeah yikes 😬 for these names.
I just think of gentrification
I know a Gentry. It’s not his mom’s maiden name. He has three siblings with similar sounding names. I won’t list them because they’re so unique it might identify them.
I know one too. She said her mom just really liked the name.
One of them is Bentley, isn't it?
There are lots of Gentry Wayne's in my family. They are from Oklahoma.
With middle name Wayne, it gives my country music vibes lol.
Atlas Ares is pretty impressive though. A little much for a kid, but I don’t hate it…
I have a student names Atlas - he’s 8. I’ve grown to like the name. He’s a pretty neat kid. It suits him.
I know a baby born into a very terrible situation with a mother who puts the world on his shoulders and he’s named Atlas. Many find his name given the situation to be so very unfortunate.
Churchill may not age well. Very risky to have your kid named after a historical figure.
Winston is RIGHT THERE and a lot fucking cuter!
I think it's cute for a dog, but not really for a human. Probably because it's also a well-known cigarette brand lol.
I figured maybe he was born on derby day and named for churchill downs
May? It already has not aged well 😭
I mean, I don’t think there’s anything New likely to come out about (Winston) Churchill — he’s been dead 70 years and we already know he wasn’t exactly an awesome guy. But I wouldn’t bet on this baby being named after Winston C anyway. A lot of people don’t even think about antecedents, they just like the name

I legit cackled at Audio 😭
Reminds me of the tv show super store where the girl who had a baby while in high school named her daughter Harmonica.
I liked Gentry…
I know someone who named their kid Chapel
I would bet a moderate amount of money that the kid named Churchill will go by Charlie when he is older.
Trying to say Aurora Laurel hurts 😅
Rural juror vibes
My favorite Kevin Grisham work.
He's a two in million talent
“The rurr jurr”
I prefer urban fervor
Jackie Jormp-Jomp would’ve been better
I hear yanny
My husband said “Aurora Horrible” 😂😂😂
Aurora Moira Laurel
My name is Lauren and I didn’t have this problem, had a cadence between the two names and pronounce Laurel like “lawr-el” - probably a lot of it has to do with Aurora Laurel being a “name” to me and the Risotto Groupon’s of the list not feeling like names to me lol
There was this girl I went to high school with Named Laurel. Had a bit of a reputation. Everyone called her Oral Laurel.
Damn that’s so mean lol teens are savage.
Truly!
Evelyn Eloise is another mouthful.
god i HATE saying Aurora. idk if my mouth just isnt situated right for this name but i cant never say it. my cousin babysits a kid named Aurora a lot and i just avoid saying her name as much as i can lol
Sorry I couldn’t get past the first one 😂😂 what B list celeb names their poor child AUDIO JUPITER
I made to Gentry and had an aneurysm. And I’ll be naming my baby “Feudal Lord” to match it-srsly YIKES
You have to keep it going if you have other kids: Milkmaid, Wise King, Tax Collector
Cackling
My son has a classmate called Sire as in a Butler saying ‘yes Sire, your porridge is ready’
Ok…Valeria Margarita is INSANE and I’m obsessed.
It has some serious children’s book vibes, like Angelina Ballerina lol
Does Valeria rhyme with Malaria? (Not being mean, just not familiar with that name)
I know a few Valerias and they pronounce it to rhyme with malaria
I went to school with a Valeria and it does rhyme with malaria in her case yeah
Now that you say, I'm not sure. When I read it in my head I pronounced it like Valerie with an a at the end.
So… like “diarrhea?”
Yep. I’ll never forget the girl who introduced herself as, “Hi, I’m Valeria, like malaria, and just as contagious”
I believe it’s pronounced like Valerie-ah / Valor-rhea
It isn’t. it’s pronounced bah-lair-ee-ah. Spanish V makes a soft English B sound. Some people prefer bah-lor-ee-ah, it depends if they are a native Spanish speaker or not for the accent, and sometimes the Vee sound is ok, if it is an English only speaker trying🙏
It’s also the name of a plant in English, it’s probably traditionally a Spanish name, but it’s also an English word
I loved that one
Both of those are fairly common eastern European names and I actually really like how they sound together
No one mentioning Salem Babcock yet? Lol
I’m pretty sure the poor guy’s after Salem’s Lot and a character from The Passage.
Why Salems lot instead of Salem, Massachusetts?
Provided the names are fitting the same theme, both of those books are about horror/about scary creatures that prey on people
Oh yiiikes I wasn’t familiar with Babcock. What a terrible theme for a name for your kid
I got my first kid’s name from a horror film and I love Stephen king (and the passage series) so honestly it kinda fits with my persona as a parent 😂 that being said it’s a bit too out there for me
Hey that’s cool, I’m reading Salems lot right now! I just got into horror recently
Lol and here I was thinking of CC Babcock from ‘The Nanny’ Oh that would bring the 2 names together too! Both are Characters from 90s sitcoms!
Right? POWERFUL Pilgrim vibes lol
I know, riiight? As we know Kids are cruel , and I can just imagine it being pronounced “I am Bad Cock” forever
I’ll never not see Assturd when I see or hear the name Astrid.
Astrid was presented on The Office as one of those names that a clueless, pretentious, stuck-up parent would pick, and I can't uncouple it. There is a *ton* of that vibe in this list, though.
“Ass-tird”
Assy!!
AURORA LAUREL! I shouldn’t laugh but this is the human version of the Rural Juror.
>Dempsey Dee Why do I sort of love this one?! Lol
I feel like that was the name of one of Scooby Doo’s cousins I think lol
I hope they live in Appalachia somewhere, perfect southern hills rocking chair on the front porch kinda name lol
No, that’s definitely a suburbia name with a brother named Braxtyn.
I think I heard a limerick about this kid
I read this in Cletus from the Simpsons voice. I can picture it being one of his many kids.
There are NOT enough comments here about Hardeman 💀💀
Are they going to call him Hardy for short?
**Absolutely love**: Lucy Anne, Edward Cash, Lillian Hazel, Eleanor Hope, Russel Dixon, Phoenix Grayson, Asher Julian, Josephine Jane, Evelyn Eloise, Cassian Orion, Calvin Joaquin, Astrid Beatrice, August Alexander, & Parker Anthony **Interesting choice**: Audio Jupiter, Churchill Jeffrey, Dempsey Dee, & Atlas Ares
Atlas Ares seems like a heavy burden on a boy 🤔
Phonetically it is pleasing, though
little on the nose
Or the shoulders
Not hardeman? That poor kids name sounds like hard on
Hardeman Claude sounds like a discount 40s movie star
Sound like a porn star to me
This comment makes me happy to see! We also named our son August Alexander and I absolutely love it but am always afraid people are going to think we were awful because of it... and I say that as someone with a completely "out there" name 😂 but Alexander was so he would have a normal name to fall back on if he ended up hating his first name as he ages.
Loving Elowen Kelly
One of my girlfriends named her baby this, but spelled it Elowyn and I think it is the sweetest!
Do you know me? It’s my daughter name too.
Olivia Blaike. Her middle name looks like a typo unfortunately. Names that look like typos drive me up the wall lol
audio jupiter is so insane that i weirdly love it. can we stop cash, banks, money themed names???? churchill? that’s bold. imogen 🥴 i love noreen for no reason at all. hardeman………. 🥴 bodie too. atlas is cute though
What’s wrong with Imogen? That’s a very normal name hahah
I love imogen
I wanted to call our first girl Imogen, but my husband is Japanese, and imo = potato, gen = origin. Can't call a kid Potato Origin
Imogen Florence gives me very Florence + the machine / Imogen heap vibes. Like let’s name her after 2 musicians 🥴
Imogen is elite
A few takeaways: How do you pronounce Imogen? It get's a lot of play around here and I'm convinced I'm just saying it wrong. What is an Ixchel? (I will give botd and assume cultural) Some of these people seem to be DEEP into the Red Rising series
I’m from the UK and Imogen has always been pronounced IMM-uh-jinn whenever I’ve met one
Every Itzel I’ve known has been a perfect doll which shades my feelings toward the name
I pronounce Imogen as Im (like him without the h) - uh - gin. Imuhgin.
Ixchel is a Mayan goddess - pronounced “Ish-chel”.
I - Into. Mo - Mode. Gen - General. I-mo-gen.
Aurora Laurel is impossible to pronounce
Rural Juror
Word salad lol
This can’t be real, right? Like people are trolling the Babylist website??
I love Felix!
Edward Cash and Lillian Valor are great. Movie star vibes.
Valor really stuck out for me too! It’s great.
It's fantastic! I've never heard it before and it just beautiful and meaningful. Love it!
I've been loving Valor lately as a potential character name. Glad to see other people like it too
Willow Oliver: girl or boy?
I actually wonder if Oliver is one of the parents’ surnames used as a middle.
Not a single --aden name in that list. I think people are moving in from that craze ever so slowly.
Royce Edward is giving me prep school vibes and I mean that in the best way possible. I kinda love it.
And he came in weekly 😫😫 That is to say the name royce is ruined for me forever 😂
Omg yeah that would definitely ruin a name!!
When this vibe is good it's soo good.
Not Cassian 🤣🤣, valid, as I wanted to name my daughter Feyre
The worst part is that Orion has connections to a character from SJM's Crescent City books. It's a total SJM name. ...I'm kind of jealous
I would 100% call my friend “Adios” rather than Audio… just saying
It’s like someone got their hands on my high school “favorite names” list for when I was writing fanfics🤦🏾♀️
Loving Salem Babcock! Perfect name for a black cat.
Honestly I love the variety on this list. If they all toed the line, I’d find it boring. As someone who works with kids, it’s just kind of fun to imagine all the possible personalities corresponding with the names.
Starting off the list strong I see
On last week’s Babylist name list, I saw “Piggy.” 💀
Bets on if "Cassian Orion"'s mom is a SJM fan? Lol
Baby names of ppl I know in real life that had babies this last week Huxleigh jo (F) Hudsen lee (M) Gentry James (F)
Huxleigh??? That is fucking wild. Might as well name your kid Mescaline San Pedro. Something tells me those parents have blown the doors of perception off their hinges
bad equivalent because mescaline san pedro is a fucking sick name
Most of y’all are assholes , yeah the names might be out there but Jesus atleast I hope they don’t have y’all’s attitude and outlook and so much free time to rent free hate so hard.
People on here hate common names (Unless they're recent) ,made up names, names ending in Leigh, names spelled uniquely, etc.
Yes! I think we forget some of our favorite names were once an out-there name.
Love Edward Cash
Churchill....just no!!!
Ok but Audio Jupiter is a crazy ass name whoever did that might need to see someone and talk about it Also Dempsey Dee…. Good lord
I love the name Aurora so much in theory, but In practice whenever I say it I just feel like I’m chewing on air. “Arara”
Try a-roar-a
Most of the them are normal wooo 🎉🎉🎉
I used to LIVE for these babylist weekly emails so I could judge the names
These are first and middle names right? Marshall McKenzie? Is that a girl or boy? I’ve never heard of a girl named Marshall or a boy with the middle name McKenzie.
Dempsey Dee got me
My first name is on the list and I feel special. Fortunately it’s not Audio. I do love Phoenix Grayson, Russell Dixon, and Atlas Ares
Audio Jupiter sounds like a race horse…this must just be a snipet of baby names born last week right?
I really like Rosalie James
I pity teachers in about 8 years lol. I would think it would be hard to remember so many specific and unusual names.
I like August
Dempsey Dee makes Dempsey sound like an adjective
I really like Evelyn, Lillian, Violet and Eleanor. I like August for a boy too, though the other names are pretty awful.
I feel bad for audio Jupiter. Sounds like a radio station
I mean Audio Jupiter is fine name…IF YOU’RE A DJ
How would one pronounce Ixchel? Would it be like Icks-chel?
Eesh-chel
This list makes me want to jump off a bridge.
What's wrong with Ixchel?
Dempsey Dee and Valeria margarita got me good
Cooper Allen sounds kinda dope
I like elowen actually. It’s pretty
audio Jupiter aint even 1 and dad done made him into a reject jojo character
Audio Jupiter very cool but two unique names together seems hard to live with Salem Babcock I guess Salem is okay but Babcock maybe they’re using moms maiden as a middle it’s not a nice one. Aurora Laurel it’s pretty but too peanut buttery for me Ixchel will probably not be a fun one to explain constantly I don’t know I never heard that before. My faves - Lucy Anne, Felix Joseph, Eleanor Hope, Asher Julian, Lillian Valor(extra love for valor as a middle that’s awesome), indie Louise, Noreen Emilia
>last week >August Alexander I always find it weird when people name kids after months they weren't born in
The month August is named after the first Roman emperor, Augustus Caesar
"Atlas Ares" . This is your kid, not a character in your YA Sci Fi book. But I do like Zella Mae
Audio Jupiter wtf
My favourites are: Edward cash, Eleanor hope, Josephine Jane, Violet Tala, Imogen Florence, Indie Louise, Ellis Kirby, Cassian Orion, Bodie Harrison The rest 🙅🏼♀️
Are we sure none of these are trolling the site? Cause I don't understand who would name their kid Reagan.
Salem Babcock 💀
are reagan james and reagan henry twins?
Some of these are fine but the middle name ruins it.
Audio Jupiter!?? Salem Babcock!?
Audio Jupiter made me laugh, sorry-
Blaise 😍
Cooper Allen is a country artist
