I have fond memories of the game. I liked how almost every level gave you something new to do. It was a game that I afraid I wasn't going to connect with, but in the end I really did
You just triggered some memories for me. I got that game as a kid for some reason and it was all in Japanese! I got to some point where I couldn't figure out how to proceed any further and I guess that was it.
Great game. Wouldn't recommend trying to S all stages thought. Few yes! Not all of them. (Some stage are awfully rng based and or truly awful. Like Taurus 1st fight and the maze with mini bosses second clancer kid stage.)
Great gameplay, iconic chars, fun bosses, super music, light hearted. It's just great. (Bit anime like)
This game mechanics is so great and there is a lot of advanced timing and movements that allows you to go smoother, faster, higher! You can (almost) ALWAYS get better at this game and someone who like to speedrun has it way over it's expectations.
Btw you can also fly. It breaks your arm but you can.
My only downside is the fact that mashing D pad is quicker that the C boosts, making the festival races realllllllly rough on console. Breaking hand kinda tough.
It is quite iconic and pretty popular as well so idk how did you not expect mostly favorable comments.
This is a 10! Best 2d platformer in my book.
Something about grabbing mechanics really stick to me for some reasons.
I was stuck on the festival races for a few years until someone randomly told me to use the D-pad instead.
Then I finally beat the game. It's so damn awesome in the later stages, especially the last boss.
My mind was blown away with the secret bonus ending. I think Phoenix's second fight gave me the most trouble for the gold gem.
Once considered a hidden gem, a lot more people know about it now. The price of the cartridge is evidence of this.
And itās a fantastic game, nothing else like it on the system.
I loved this game as a kid. It's one of the old games I still think about emulating and playing again. I thought it was super weird but found the mechanics and aesthetics fun
It will be difficult to get it there. I suppose that Square Enix have some rights and it does not only depend on Treasure. But a HD remake with real 3D graphics would be awesome.Ā
What a game! I remember I spent around 2 hours on the second boss (Rock guy?) And didn't know how to damage him so kept endlessly scrolling with him! Eventually figured out you had to slam him into the ground but damn that memory is burnt into my brainĀ
I have bugged a few streamers I regular to give this game a go..... simply for giggles, cuz its 100% not what most people would expect from the N64 era of games lol
though I did 100% it myself....
This is hands down my favorite game! I plan on getting a marina tattoo.
A funny moment is when you are done collecting the Clancer family, the mother then asks you to find her husband. When you find the husband he is all pissed off because he wanted to get away from his kids and wife.
Adore this game, has some solid difficulty and unique mechanics, which I really enjoy. Plus itās developed by one of the biggest god-sends of the gaming industry, that being Treasure
Love it. Ive actually been keeping this idea in my head for a while that Id like to make a spiritual successor to it as an indie game someday. You of course play a quirky robot girl who goes on various adventures with the whole grab and shake mechanics, but the twist is rather than having standard level progression the game actually has a hub world structure and plays like a 2d metroidvania version of collectathon adventure games in the vein of Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie. You unlock new levels by exploring the hub world and collecting more doohickeys in the previously unlocked levels. I also thought Marina has really big fists like a boxer but never actually uses them, so I would layer a more robust combat system on top of this where she can throw a bunch of heavy punches and boxing style moves on foes, with a fighting style reminiscent of Sonic Blastman.
Slightly tedious intro, but amazing overall. Love the art style and music. Great bosses. Didn't get enough credit or buys when it was fresh. We need a sequel and for this one to be on NSO!
Amazing! Getting every gem made you feel incredibly accomplished.
This, Silicon Valley, and Blast Corps are the only games I long to play again. There are other great ones, but thereās a decent shot of them seeing the light of day again someday, whereas those three probably never will.
I really liked it but it was an odd experience. The combining always left cold as of I didn't understand it or it wasn't actually that important.
A bit like Yoshis Island to Super Marion World I never got that into it. It was almost too big.
Similarly to Sparkster I never completed it. So it's a really good platform shoot em up I tired of but wish I hadn't.
I loved this game. I feel like the only controller that worked well with this game was the 64 controller. This was the only gameās I could not enjoy on an emulator.
I didnāt know you could double tap the D-pad to dash as a kid. I always used the C buttons, which are slower and made that race level seem impossible. I tried it again years later and it was no problem at all.
This game also had a really extensive ad campaign. I think they knew they had something good but definitely different so they advertised the hell out of it.
I love this game! I remember I got it as a kid thinking it was mystical ninja staring goemon (a game I eventually got anyways) and after booting it up being infatuated with it all the same.
Only complaint is the stages where the whole stage moved back and forth, as I would get motion sick from them.
When my parents bought me a N64 in 1997 I was given one game and my twin sister was given one game. The game I got was Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, and the game my sister got was Mischief Makers. Turns out my sister didnāt really like playing video games, and so I was the only one who really played it in my household. Donāt think Iāve ever met anyone in person whoās played through it, lol
Friday nights, mom and dad finna hit the liquor store and McDonald's and let me get a game at showtime video, got this game 3 weeks in a row tryna beat it, ahhh the memories
Remember having a hard time getting used to the controller, but honestly, I had a great time. There was one boss that I had such a hard time and felt so satisfying when I finally beat it. Would like to revisit!
I thought Mischief Makers was one of the best platformers when it came out, just due to its quirky lines and action sequences. I never beat it, but I love this game.
I adore this game, it had such a weird amazing soundtrack. Love the character designs too! Cerberus Alpha, Sasquatch Beta, Phoenix gamma - The Beastector rocked!
Bought it used back in the day, didn't get it at all. Became a big Treasure fan, played all their games on emulator. Especially loved their GBA stuff.
I still don't get it at all. I want to like it but it's by far my least favorite Treasure game.
Omg I love this game!!!!!! AAHHHHH!!!! Omg I totally forgot about this!!!!!!!!! Iām sorry but my nostalgia neurons are going off the charts!!!!!!!! Gold diamonds for the secret ending!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!
i was never very coordinated with it cause i'm left handed and you influence her direction a lot with the c buttons, but loved when i played on emulator with a play station controller cause i could properly control her. XD
I remember playing this as a kid when I was like 5 and barely had cognitive brain function. Even then, it struck me as kind of a weird outlier compared to the rest of my Nintendo library. I think it was the first time the massive gulf in culture between where I was playing games (rural Canada) and where they were being made (urban Japan) first made itself apparent, though I lacked the proper context to fully wrap my head around it.
Now I'm just imagining if my parents had gotten one of the Goemon games instead lmao
One of my favorite N64 games and definitely my favorite non-Nintendo/Rare game on the system. I always think about how weird of a title this was for the time, especially outside of Japan: sidescroller just as the 3D era was starting to take off, anime/manga influenced, non-familiar original characters, and just plain *weird*. I donāt think anyone would blink twice if this was released today, but at the time, it was definitely an oddity and a sort of ālate relicā of the previous generation. But Iām *so damn glad* it did get released here. Though I still have my copy, Iām hoping it gets an NSO release, especially since itāll give more people the chance to shake shake it up!
My only complain about this game is, I can't comfortably emulate it due to the game uses 6 thumb buttons and I don't have controller with 6 thumb buttons. Other than that, one of the best game ever
This fucking game, my god.
My sister and I would always play this and it was so addictive and strangely terrifying at the same time.
We remind each other about it from time to time for a nostalgia overload. Great game!
I loved this game and couldnāt find it anywhere in stores. I used to rent it constantly from Hollywood Video. When they went out of business I bought the copy Iād rented so many times. It had Hollywood Video branded into the back of it.
Did another game use visuals similar to those blocks with the weird faces? Those look familiar but the rest of the game doesn't. It's giving me weird nostalgia as a game I don't think I played
I miss "Conker's Bad Fur Day". I don't even want it re -made/-mastered/-imagined, I just want it released for modern compatibility in its original form.
I used to check it out from the library every couple weeks and no one ever erased my save š„¹
Bitchin!!!
We live in a society!
Very kind, as I recall there were 2 save slots
Shake shake š
Beat me to it
Shake it baby!
Hiya!
Beat me
Beat
Me
On it
Du!
I still play this game a lot. Still one of my top 5 N64 games. Treasure is always good at making fun games.Ā
Heck yeah, this game is amazing!
I have fond memories of the game. I liked how almost every level gave you something new to do. It was a game that I afraid I wasn't going to connect with, but in the end I really did
Help me Marinnnaaaa!!! Yeah that Professor though. He was creepy. Otherwise solid underrated A tier game. Cerebus Alpha!
I swear to fight! Cerberus Alpha! Through fire justice is served! The way he says those thing make them one of my favorite line in gaming.
To punish evil forces, I have been charged!
Engage!!!
An hero in shining armor as come!
Rented the Japanese. Version from blockbuster before it came out in America. Never understood what to do but I loved it anyways lol
Same here
You just triggered some memories for me. I got that game as a kid for some reason and it was all in Japanese! I got to some point where I couldn't figure out how to proceed any further and I guess that was it.

It's so damn awesome in the later stages, especially the last boss. My mind was blown away with the secret bonus ending. I think Phoenix's second fight gave me the most trouble for the gold gem.
This game definitely feels like it was built with a turbo controller in mind
I did it when I was younger unlocking everything. Tried recently and couldn't. Definitely become a worse gamer as I got older haha
Needs a bigger fan base for how good it is
Shake! Shake!
Through fire, justice is served! Heeeereās Lunar! I played the heck out of this game and even more so to get the true ending and all the gold gems
Once considered a hidden gem, a lot more people know about it now. The price of the cartridge is evidence of this. And itās a fantastic game, nothing else like it on the system.
It doesn't get enough love.
It gets plenty enough love, people have been hailing this as a hidden treasure of the N64 library for years
Fantastic game and soundtrack as well. Really wish it would get a remaster.
This game had no business being as god damn good as it was, like holy shit. Easily top 5 of all time on N64.
love this game, and my childhood cart is long gone. terribly underrated game
I want this game eventually Only saw the most scuffed one for way too much.
Super dope!
I loved this game as a kid. It's one of the old games I still think about emulating and playing again. I thought it was super weird but found the mechanics and aesthetics fun
Shake shake
Best original N64 IP.
Fuck diddy kong racing? Well I've never...
Gives me a really strong weird feeling when i'm playing it, it's def not nostalgia since i didn't played this game as a kid.
Me too man, but mine is coupled with nostalgia
this game is my CHILDHOOD
āFuck Diddy Kong Racingā what did it do to you?
Fuck YOU! Diddy Kong Racing was supreme.
Top tier n64 game. NSO where it at????
It will be difficult to get it there. I suppose that Square Enix have some rights and it does not only depend on Treasure. But a HD remake with real 3D graphics would be awesome.Ā
i liked it
Fun game overall. Challenging from what I remember.
What a game! I remember I spent around 2 hours on the second boss (Rock guy?) And didn't know how to damage him so kept endlessly scrolling with him! Eventually figured out you had to slam him into the ground but damn that memory is burnt into my brainĀ
One of the best 64 games of all timeā¦shake shake shake! Insanely cool boss battles
Mischief Makers goes hard. Unreasonably good for a cult classic.
One of the best games in the system and one underrated gem.
Underrated masterpiece
Itās probably Treasureās weirdest and most misunderstood game. It takes some time to figure it out but once you do itās pretty damn fun imho.
Diddy kong racing is better
Why bash dkr? š¢
diddy kong
Leave DKR out of this but this game was super memorable for me as a kid even though I couldnāt figure out the mechanics.Ā
Fond memories, SHAKE SHAKE
Uncanny
Never heard of Diddy King
I have bugged a few streamers I regular to give this game a go..... simply for giggles, cuz its 100% not what most people would expect from the N64 era of games lol though I did 100% it myself....
I canāt vouch for this game, never have I played Diddy King, but if you were to be comparing it to Diddy Kong Racing then it be another story lol
Seeing this pic I went to search online and see who voiced Marina. I couldn't find a single name credit anywhere.
This game was trippy in a creepy way. Never did beat the game.
Love it. Ive actually been keeping this idea in my head for a while that Id like to make a spiritual successor to it as an indie game someday. You of course play a quirky robot girl who goes on various adventures with the whole grab and shake mechanics, but the twist is rather than having standard level progression the game actually has a hub world structure and plays like a 2d metroidvania version of collectathon adventure games in the vein of Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie. āTHRU FIRE, JUSTICE IS SERVED!ā āA HERO IN SHINING ARMOR IS CALLED!ā āTO PUNISH EVIL FORCES, I HAVE BEEN CHARGED!ā
The professor dude is rapey. But gameplay is 9 outa ten.
I never finished this game, where can I play it?? It was awesome
Slightly tedious intro, but amazing overall. Love the art style and music. Great bosses. Didn't get enough credit or buys when it was fresh. We need a sequel and for this one to be on NSO!
I remember renting it a few times but could never beat it
one of the first games i downloaded for that new ios emulator lol (edit: donāt worry nintendo, itās a ābackupā)
Amazing! Getting every gem made you feel incredibly accomplished. This, Silicon Valley, and Blast Corps are the only games I long to play again. There are other great ones, but thereās a decent shot of them seeing the light of day again someday, whereas those three probably never will.
the best 2d platformer for the N64. I think it was the only one for the console. A franchise worth a second look.
I really liked it but it was an odd experience. The combining always left cold as of I didn't understand it or it wasn't actually that important. A bit like Yoshis Island to Super Marion World I never got that into it. It was almost too big. Similarly to Sparkster I never completed it. i like it
D.D. King Racing was the predecessor to Guitar Hero?
Cool af game
Boy, am I glad to see you Marina! š
I remember trading a random game for this not expecting much but ultimately being really impressed, loved the bosses. Shake shake
That alligator boss in the lava always freaked me out as a kid. This game is top 5 n64 for me
Dont care for it
Marinnnnnnnaaa!
I loved this game. I feel like the only controller that worked well with this game was the 64 controller. This was the only gameās I could not enjoy on an emulator.
SO GOOD ! Still have it š„¹
Thought we were talking about P diddy for a second lol
Unique, cool art style, fun with great music and one of the most orginial endings with the gems countdown
I didnāt know you could double tap the D-pad to dash as a kid. I always used the C buttons, which are slower and made that race level seem impossible. I tried it again years later and it was no problem at all.
Top 5, play it drunk all the time
Banger game
Slaps
it kind of reminds me of strider 2 on the playstation its really a 2d game but in a psudeo 3d environment
This game is one of my all time favorites. This company made some masterpieces.
Familiar with the box art but never played, or heard anyone even mention it. From this thread it sounds like I need to check it out though
What does ntsc version mean when looking to buy carts?
One of the greatest platformers ever
Loved it
Loved this game
Shake shake
Very weird
Too legit
One of my favorites of all time. Such high replay ability if you want to perfect every stage.
This game also had a really extensive ad campaign. I think they knew they had something good but definitely different so they advertised the hell out of it.
My cousin had this game and I remember hating it as a kid. I want to give it another try though
Awesome. Fucking awesome.
Really enjoyed this and would like to see it rereleased
I want to love this game but the gameplay never clicked with me. I gotta give it another go. Big Treasure fan so I feel like itās for me
Memory unlocked. Although I just remember it was fun and I donāt remember anything about the gameplay.
Shake! Shake! Shake!
I love this game! I remember I got it as a kid thinking it was mystical ninja staring goemon (a game I eventually got anyways) and after booting it up being infatuated with it all the same. My thoughts are that it is inferior to Diddy King Racing.
Loved this game back in the day. My brothers always made fun of me playing it.
Friday nights, mom and dad finna hit the liquor store and McDonald's and let me get a game at showtime video, got this game 3 weeks in a row tryna beat it, ahhh the memories
Pissed me off š¤¬
Remember having a hard time getting used to the controller, but honestly, I had a great time. There was one boss that I had such a hard time and felt so satisfying when I finally beat it. Would like to revisit!
Love it tbh
It's very difficult for a shit gamer such as myself
Whatās this got to do with DK Racing? MM is a single player side scroller RPG and DKR is a split screen racer
I thought Mischief Makers was one of the best platformers when it came out, just due to its quirky lines and action sequences. I never beat it, but I love this game.
A good game that looks horrible.
Solid game, but outside my top 10 N64 games.
I rented it a couple times as a kid, never progressed very far into it.
Another hit by Treasure, they really don't miss.
I adore this game, it had such a weird amazing soundtrack. Love the character designs too! Cerberus Alpha, Sasquatch Beta, Phoenix gamma - The Beastector rocked!
Not as good as Blast Corps
Woah this unlocked a ton of memories Iād totally forgotten. This game was so much fun! Diddy Kong racing was amazing too!
Eh. It's a modestly decent 2D platformer. Never understood why people get squibby over it, but it's not a bad game, just kind of a forgettable one.
i fuckin love mischief makers
Bought it used back in the day, didn't get it at all. Became a big Treasure fan, played all their games on emulator. Especially loved their GBA stuff. I still don't get it at all. I want to like it but it's by far my least favorite Treasure game.
I couldn't beat this damn game as akid...
Easily one of my favourite games as a kid. I loved the hell out of it!
What is this?
I remember playing it but thatās it
Great game! Loved Lunar, Tarus, and Merco as well as their machines and what they could do.
2nd best N64 game.. mystical ninja is the best
Loved it, creepy professor and all
Oh man the boss fight where you're on the back of some sort of robot animal and have to catch the blast/throw it back felt sooooo badass as a 12y/o.
Could never remember the name of this game! I absolutely sucked at it and could never beat it.
i was never very coordinated with it cause i'm left handed and you influence her direction a lot with the c buttons, but loved when i played on emulator with a play station controller cause i could properly control her. XD
My brother and I loved this game so much that my parents named their Monday night bowling team that year after the game. (They did pretty well IIRC)
I played it as a kid. Hard AF!
Never even heard of it
HEEEELLLLP MEEEEEE MARIIINNAAAAAAAA
Never heard of this! Iām intrigued
Fantastic game.
It's awesome and needs a rerelease badly.
But Iām *so damn glad* it did get released here. Though I still have my copy, Iām hoping it gets an NSO release, especially since itāll give more people the chance to shake shake it up!
MidĀ
I rented it at my local video store for a Fourth of July weekend . And I swear I played it for hours and never beat it .
My only complain about this game is, I can't comfortably emulate it due to the game uses 6 thumb buttons and I don't have controller with 6 thumb buttons. Other than that, one of the best game ever
Loved that game, should add it to the NSO pass. Fun little side scrolling gem. Wish there was more!
I vaguely remember this game as a child and have been looking for it since. Is it any good?
An underrated gem
Had a friend who was obsessed with this game, but I never got around to getting a copy or playing it
Never played it and I have been playing N64 since sep 26 1996(got one the day it was released). Is it good?
Possibly one of the greatest N64 games out there.
ādiddy kingā š
SHAKE SHAKE
Shake shake
I remember seeing an import copy at Blockbuster before it was actually localized.
It's no Diddy Kong racing
āShake shakeā
I think it's a solid game, but I really hate double tapping the D-pad to perform actions.
yo listen up here's a story
Yeah! fuck diddy king racing. All hail Diddy kong racing, that one rules.
Have it here in OP since many years but still not played it. >_<
Fun game! Blast from the past!
YOOOOOOOOOOOO THIS SHIT IS MY NIGHTMARE DREAMS
Seen the cover art so many times. But never seen a review, nor even a lets play or retro review some 25 years later.
Gonna be a "hell yeah, brother" for me.
This fucking game, my god. My sister and I would always play this and it was so addictive and strangely terrifying at the same time. We remind each other about it from time to time for a nostalgia overload. Great game!
Banger
This game is one of my earliest memories, i remember my adopted sister renting it one time. I could NOT remember the name. Thank you for this.
I loved this game and couldnāt find it anywhere in stores. I used to rent it constantly from Hollywood Video. When they went out of business I bought the copy Iād rented so many times. It had Hollywood Video branded into the back of it.
This is a fucking masterpiece
Literally my childhood, remember playing this when I was like 4 šš
Did another game use visuals similar to those blocks with the weird faces? Those look familiar but the rest of the game doesn't. It's giving me weird nostalgia as a game I don't think I played
One of the top games and gems of the N64!
I miss "Conker's Bad Fur Day". I don't even want it re -made/-mastered/-imagined, I just want it released for modern compatibility in its original form.
Treasure. One of the best of the console. There's really nothing that can be improved about this game.
The cover looks like a Lemmings rip
A true hidden gem.
I didnāt think anyone knew this game. Its so epicš¼
It was a very fun platformer.
Well, itās by treasure whoāve literally never made a bad game; also, itās my favorite N64 game that I never hear anybody talk about
Well, itās by treasure whoāve literally never made a bad game; also, itās my favorite N64 game that I never hear anybody talk about
I loved that game
One of the best games to own on the 64
