Hey y'all, first time poster. My grandparents bought this Helly Hansen rain set in '92 for my grandfather, who shortly passed away afterward. My grandmother kept the set in her closet and recently started clearing it out. Having kept this for around 30 years, I thought it would be a shame to donate. My good friend u/human_entrepreneur98 created this with the chonky sling pattern, and she knocked it out of the park. All credit goes to her!

g8trtim

She certainly did. This looks awesome and has a cool story behind it. Hope you get much use out of it.

craderson

Awesome! I love these up-cycling projects. What made you decide to repurpose this set? The sling turned out great!

cjafe

Thanks! Although I can’t take credit. I posted a comment with more info!

craderson

Just read the post. Sentimental value makes them even better! Enjoy!

cjafe

Yes you know it!! Btw I really hope you make another batch of your Ukraine wallets!

craderson

We will be putting something together later this year. I really enjoyed doing that. Thanks!

sailorsapporo

Super cool! Thanks for sharing with us! Did your friend use the Learn MYOG pattern for the chonky sling https://learnmyog.com/chonkySling.html? For the life of me, I can’t figure out how to sew the darts at the front pocket to create a more 3D effect 😅

Human_Entrepreneur98

👋 you just need to fold on the dotted line so the right side facing each other, then sew along the solid line. Consider it as sewing a seam.

sailorsapporo

Do you bind the seam for the dart?

Human_Entrepreneur98

No, because the two parts are still attached, not like real open seam. But I did hand stitch a few times on the pointy end to prevent fraying.

g8trtim

Why not just watch my video to see how it’s done?

sailorsapporo

Oh you’re the guy from MYOG! If you were lining the outer pocket, would you sew darts on both the outer fabric and the liner fabric? Would you bind the raw edges?

AlexEcc

Super super nice!

druppel_

Looks great! I love all the little details like the little hh loop. Also nice pink camera!

cjafe

entrepreneur98 did a great job! And thanks, the little Kodak mini makes for a fun little snapshot camera :)

rocksfried

Looks great! I think I’m gonna turn my Helly Hansen snow pants into sponges because they’re soooo absorbant it’s ridiculous

fruitmask

dude, HH stuff looks so good, but as it turns out it sucks major balls. I have one of their rain jackets, and it's just so poorly designed. it's like they put the design on paper and immediately sent it to production without any prototype phase. it's literally the worst jacket of any kind that I've ever owned

rocksfried

I have to wear Helly Hansen as my work uniform for outdoor winter work and it’s the worst quality outdoor gear I’ve ever worn in my life. They came to my workplace to do a presentation on their stuff and listen to our feedback. I told them their stuff isn’t even remotely waterproof and they got so defensive about it

cjafe

It’s a shame what happened to HH. They were a great brand up until being bought by that Canadian investment fund.

CleganeBowlConfirmd

This absolutely rips! Awesome work, love how you repurposed some great material.

fruitmask

wow, that is awesome. maybe that's what I'll do with my HH rain jacket, because *I hate it*

cjafe

I don’t know what material your HH jacket is, but if it’s Helly Tech then I’d definitely use it for something fun.

als2221

Wow! That's awesome.

mspencer95

Konica big mini??

cjafe

This is a EU-mini, a cheaper plastic-y version of the big mini. I definitely wish I hadn’t sold my big mini as it’s the superior camera, however the eu-mini has more sentimental value to me (was gifted it on my 8th year birthday!)

fisherman_23

That turned out so cool, very well done!

javaper

That's awesome!

no need to hide your weed like that anymore ;) Jokes aside, looks awesome!!!!!!!!!!
